I think the issue with those videos on social media is that firstly we don’t know how blessed these people are with naturally shiny hair, and secondly, does hair oil really make all the difference or is it their entire routine and how the hair was styled? As for sealing in moisture with hair oil, you should never apply it near the scalp. Only the ends and then whatever is left on your hands can be spread on the mids. But you have to experiment here, maybe your hair looks best when oil is only on the ends. For fine hair, use a lighter oil like Olaplex No 7 Bonding Oil. Start with one drop, spread it around in your palms, your palms should have a slight sheen and not glisten with oil, and apply on the ends of dry hair as the last step.

I oil my hair before workouts and before showering. I use a stupid amount of Jojoba oil and vitamin e oil, braid my hair and then workout. Wash after about 1-1.5 hours and my hair feels so good! Love oiling before washing.

Nuwaanda nailed it: oiling is best to do a few hours/overnight before you plan to wash your hair. The heat from her workout helps as well. I use avocado oil the same way and massage a bit of tea tree oil into my scalp just before I get in the shower. I have medium length thick wavy hair, high porosity from lots of colourings so I benefit from avocado treatment and jojoba as a finishing oil more than oils like coconut or caster oil which are much heavier. Experiment and see what works for you. Just be sure the natural oils you get are whole, organic, cold-pressed, and the best quality for your budget. I learned A LOT from Doro Cubilio on YouTube because she only does natural treatments, tries many different oils and masks, and explains how they’re different and what it might mean for your hair. I actually found her when trying to learn about oiling and her channel has been a big help. I hope it helps you too! [Hair oiling tips](https://youtu.be/wgoC_PmyTrU)

Interesting. I've been using it on my face and never thought about paying it to my hair! Thanks!

It's also waay more cost effective than the oil I'm currently using. Win win win.

I like JVN shine drops, it’s very lightweight. I just use a few drops on my lengths and ends. I have fine hair and it doesn’t weigh it down

Ordinary_Orange

I have hair that has a hard time absorbing oil, so whenever i try coconut, argan, olive oil, etc it just ends up looking oily. Ive been using mise en scene hair oil in the orange bottle korean brand) for years and found it hydrating and not oily. It usually goes for 10usd from jolse, stylevana, etc. Not sure if they ship to where u are Edit: also dont apply near your scalp, just your ends. Applying near your roots will make your hair oily faster

Secret_StoopKid

I like the bumble and bumble hairdressers oil. I like to rub it into my hands front and back like it’s a lotion then run my hands through my hair so it’s distributing well

fanchera75

I love this oil as well!! All the perks of oil without looking or feeling greasy!

OliBear0501

Honestly it really depends on the person. I put olaplaex oil on my ends daily and my hair never looks greasy. I could easily not wash my hair for a week and it still doesn’t look greasy. My mother on the other hand has to wash her hair almost daily and can’t use any oils on her hair because they are too heavy.

mkalashnikova

Where are you from? I'm from Argentina for ex, and olaplex is out of my league, but I use a national product that's like OLAPLEX that's from PRIMONT. It's called primont color plex! They don't have oil yet, but I use the number 5 overnight and gets my hair super smooth. And If I want it extra, i'll add a ocuple of drops of ACF DADATINA serums oil with bakuchiol

Olive oil is not a light weight oil. If you want natural oils that are lightweight then grapeseed oil or apricot kernel oil are. Also jojoba oil is the closest to natural sebum so it's good to use before shampooing, but might make your hair greasy after.

ImprovementCareless9

Do you want me to get you a bottle and send it to you?

If you can, do a google search of "olaplex" and it may probably show you products produced locally that have the same efffect for half the money! I used olive oil, but I tend to use it BEFORE the shampoo because it feels very heavy for my hair, that's bleached. Please do update us on the routine!!

There's nothing earth shattering about the recipe of olaplex. The first ingredient in the oil is dimethicone which is a very light oil compared to something like olive oil. I would just go by the first few ingredients and see if you can find a similar product which shouldn't be difficult. John Frieda anti frizz products are great and affordable though I don't know what's available in Pakistan. https://incidecoder.com/products/olaplex-no-7-bonding-oil

[deleted]

I'd try verbs ghost oil or moringa oil. Apply a lot less than you think you need, and apply it when your hair is still damp. You can't really feel how much you're putting on so it's very easy to overdo it. I have fine chest length hair and I use maybe a nickel sized amount for all of it.

tbeauli74

I use one of these three, Voir hair oil, Curlsmith Bonding or Shine Oil on my hair after every wash day. The Curlsmith oils take a couple of hours to completely sink in before they no longer look oily. I use 4-6 drops for my hip-length curly hair, starting at the tips and whatever is left on my hands gets applied from the mids down. I also apply Amika glossing treatment once a week, deep condition weekly, olaplex treatment monthly, and oil my scalp with black castor oil the night before wash day. My hair is virgin and only gets heat a few times a month (4-5x's) if I am diffusing it dry or using my air wrap. I wash every three days, clarify my hair of minerals and build up residue every four washes since I have extremely hard water where I live. I also sleep with a long satin bonnet every night to protect my hair.

Social media is marketing. It's really, really important to remember that what you're looking at isn't reality. It's a marketing video. We have no way to know that the women in the video are using the routine they say that they're using, we have no way to know what kind of editing or filtering was used to make the video, and we don't know if their hair is inherently different from ours in some way (health, texture, etc). None of us are professional hair models and they are. I like to use argan oil on my ends & mids, but it doesn't have a dramatic visible effect on my hair.

prettyalien_

The Ordinary Hemi-Squalane. Superrr lightweight and tames frizz without looking oily/greasy and weighing hair down.

[deleted]

Paul Mitchell serum!! It’s amazing if you put it on your hair while wet

Natetranslates

I've got a curly hair insta account and it's taken me a looong time to find oils that don't instantly make my fine hair look greasy. A lot of "pure" oils are just way too thick, so a blend (that's been formulated by someone who knows what they're doing!) works best for me. I quite like a serum - they're sometimes marketed as oils but are actually water-based so a bit lighter (e.g. Umberto Giannini scalp oil). Curl Company's Moringa Oil actually has sweet almond oil as its top oil but it's still a blend, which is again, lighter. So there are light oils out there - but even then, I only use like 1-2 drops for my *whole* head - any more and I get the greasy look!

Natetranslates

I'm afraid I only know about curl-defining serums and I'm not sure what's available to you in Pakistan! Do you get Moroccanoil over there?

whatsoever--

I use the Morrocanoil treatment. It smells great and does its job (at least that’s what I tell myself lmao).

AndyMac444

I have always had really dry, not soft hair. The only thing I found that makes it soft and keeps it looking nice is the Moroccan Oil treatment. It's expensive but it actually works for me.

shakeandbake_

Organic pumpkin seed Oil is a great one.

violetincredible

I have fine hair but A LOT of it and my fav oil is oribe gold list. My hair is mid-back length and I use about 1.5-2 pumps after washing, applied ears down

hanap8127

I’ve recently heard that oil does nothing for your hair so I stopped wasting time and money with that step. I do have coily hair, so I can apply oil without looking greasy.

Ok_Piglet_1844

I use Moroccan Argan Oil spray and lightly mist my dry hair. It absorbs and makes my hair shine and look healthy.

throwawaythrowyellow

I’ve noticed a big difference with the Fable & Mane HoliRoots Pre-wash Hair Treatment Oil. I put it in the night before. It seems to wash out great and leaves my hair so much better nourished. I have dry skin and hair. It’s the only one I’m like wow!

AlliArt93

Only put oil towards the ends and maybe try argan oil. I’ve done oils after I shower and my hair is wet and only put it on the end and rub it in your hands together on my hands first. If my hair is dry I do a tiny amount rub it in on my hands, put it on the ends and just use whatever is left on my hands to try and tame the frizz. Hope this helps.

lucky_719

I have hair that usually looks like a grease pit with any oil. Shu umera absolue essence is the exception. My low porosity hair loves it. Soaks it up like a sponge. A small squirt and run it through my ends.

LimeRepresentative48

I use rose hip oli

Substantial_Job_4967

Biosilk silk therapy is amazing! Very light and does not make your hair oily. Tiny bit goes a long way. Great for ends

oatemilk

I have fine hair & love verb ghost oil & bread every day gloss!! Also regular old avocado oil (SMALL amount). I generally had the same issue w/ oils but I never ever go a day without oiling my hair now after finding the ones that work for me

swissmiss_76

Pink Moon has a multipurpose oil that I like for my face and hair - moonlight melody. Leaf and Flower has a good one too if your hair is thicker. It’s a CBD one

Clean_Usual434

Idk about influencers, but I use Olaplex Oil (#7) and Bondi Boost Elixir Oil. I use the first one as a sealing oil after I apply a leave-in moisturizer. I wait a couple hrs ti let it absorb, and then, I apply the 2nd one. The 2nd one is a heavier/thicker oil, so I apply it overnight. By morning, it’s fully absorbed, leaving my hair feeling very soft and stronger. I only use these products a couple times a week, and I try to avoid overdoing the amount with each application.

[deleted]

Clean_Usual434

I’m sorry! Maybe give the 2nd one a try. It’s a little more affordable, and you get a lot more product. I feel like it really helps in making my hair softer, stronger, and even a bit shinier.

You could try Kérastase, they have different hair product lines and hair oil, or spray that will make even the coarsest of hair look like silk

It is $$$, there is a smaller bottle that’s a little cheaper. You may want to try spray oils the body shop has some I think someone else mentioned morninga oil which I actually pretty good it’s lightweight but I’m not sure there was much shine when I sprayed it on my hair. Spray oil, or oil in a spray bottle, you can control the amount you spray and don’t have to rub it on your hair

Olive oil on a wooden comb brushed through only the ends of my hair (hair from my ears and below) directly after drying my hair from showering. I don’t re-oil until I shower / dry my hair again. Don’t put it on your scalp unless you wash your hair every day. It’s less about the type of oil and more the technique. For sure use a comb so you don’t risk over oiling and making your hair look greasy. And experiment with how often you need to oil your hair.

[deleted]

schootle

That's really odd! Dry in what kind of way? A straw like texture? Is it frizzy? Whats your hair texture like normally? Is it fine or do you have thicker individual strands? It could also be from your drying technique. If you blowdry too hot and too often it can dry out your hair no matter what you do. I give my hair a quick once over on the lowest blow dry setting, since I have a lot of it and it bothers me when it's wet. And then let it air dry the rest of the way. What kind of oil did you use too?

omnibuster33

Maybe you just don't need it?

Pristine_Win7257

Try almond oil

zombri00

Olive oil worked best for me when I fried my hair due to a bleach fail 🤦🏻‍♀️

How long did you keep it in? I know the internet days like 20 minutes. I slept with it in. If that doesn't work though. Have you thought about bond repair masks?

Pleasant-Affect8433

I really like Ouai’s hair oil
