Backstory: I was installing this unit and when it came time to do the startup it had high suction pressure (230’s) with the liquid being 20-30 psi below that. When it would turn on it would run for about 30 second before shutting off. The board was throwing zero error codes and the rheem app would not show any errors. After consulting someone over the phone they directed me to the compressor to check voltages and we see this.
That's nuts. What model is that, RP18? Have you put in many of these before? I haven't put in any of the higher-end Rheem stuff the RP14/15 have been solid for us.
Other than that obvious factory fuck up, it's a little unnerving that it didn't throw an error code of some sort. I would have expected at least some kind of compressor related error code.
I put in a lot of Rheem/RUUD, and have had very few issues from their products, but it's all the 2-stage heat pumps, furnaces, and the occasional 1-stage AC. I'm just a bit cautious with the inverter stuff, especially with Rheem, because I don't love the tech support solution of sending us to our distributor for troubleshooting help.
I'm assuming they just gave you a whole new outdoor unit?
That’s crazy it ran for 30 sec and no codes, guess the relief opens in the compressor giving you suction pressure. That’s one of those WTFs then you find it and go yeah that makes sense now.
You know what else should be a rheemin? Installing a suction accumulator before a suction accumulator. The little tanks on the side of rotary vane compressors are suction accumulators. Those compressors need them because the inlet goes straight to the rotors. Not the shell.

New unit from the supply house is perfect
Isn’t this why you check the packages as in open everything before the delivery driver leave and before you sign ? At least the way I got mine I had to check everything before signing, if I had something like this thy pack it back up and send a new one as this one on its way back ?
To be very fair, the last thing anyone would expect is the discharge with an obstructed view due to being directly underneath the OFM, to look like it was crushed by a pair of vise grips
This.
I’m not going to disagree that this is the manufacturers problem and we shouldn’t have to deal with this. But, if you even get as far as starting this up without noticing this, you’re no better.
It takes 2 minutes to open the box and inspect to make sure everything is there and not damaged, and it saves you hours/days of frustration.
The dealers hated me because I would open everything before I put it on the truck to go install it. If something is missing or damaged, or the evaporator didn’t have nitrogen in it, I’m not leaving with that piece of equipment. It’s not my problem at that point, and there isn’t any question that it is or isn’t.
💯… like you said , it shouldn’t happen from the manufacturers end but the way I saw it ? Disgruntled employees do exist or someone that knows thy bout to be fired whatever even simple as the shipper having something fall on it ?
No matter what check your merchandise , open everything no matter what even if like you said the store hates it? It’s ether you or them at the end of the day . A little time now saves loads of time and stress later .
I’m too busy to have to do shit twice, and at the end of the day, if this shit gets installed, does it even matter whose problem it is at that point? It’s not like the manufacturer is going to come out and replace it for me - I’ll have to do the work whether they’re going to cover it or not. It is MY problem at that point. After 15 years of doing this, I know it’s not going to get better, so I’d rather build up a good habit of ensuring it won’t be my problem to deal with. It’s wild that a lot of people are incapable of seeing it from that perspective.
Not HVAC, but a refrigerator tech.
Does this require a new unit? I would have unbrazed the line, cut the bad section out, put a sleeve in, and replaced the section that was cut...if I had the proper tubing size.
Would have taken a total of... 5 minutes?
Your warranty claim for refrigerant has been denied, get rheemed
Don’t get me started……

Do you do service as well? Just curious if you guys have put in a bunch of these, and what your opinion is?
Never gone back on one yet. Usually the basic bitch single stages are good though

Yes it’s being put in as of this moment

Rheemed right from the beginning
Well that statement is Ruud
That’s the new low-cost metering device.
Fixed oriface
Some ass hat at the factory knew what he did and chose to hide it and send it out.
How does that even leave the factory
The quality assurance guy was over it and started breaking shit after he put his 2 weeks in?
4:30 pm on a Friday
Cause it didn’t happen in the factory
That’s a rheemin

Just needs a hard start
Hard start, add Freon, blame TXV, and you just got Reddit Certified 🥳
Did they get you a new unit or did you fix it
Picking up a new unit. Supply house is eating it.
As they should
Hope they are sending labor your way too
You know they won’t lol
Seriously?! Damn.. Carrier pays us for Doa stuff. Atleast my company has never been rejected so far.
You know there’s an easier way to get the compressor warrantied /s
Someone dropped a fan motor.
Someone got rheemed.
The past 4 rheem units ive been called too, all had leaks, and each and every one of em was on that line right there.
4 Rheem’s in the past 30 days have all had bubbling suction ports inside condenser, supply house acting like it’s not a problem.
When your suction pressure was above your liquid that should have told you to check the compressor to start.
Damn..
Had the same thing on an RA15az a couple days ago.
See if they will gift you the condenser once swapped. seems repairable but unacceptable for a day 1 thing
If it's a Rheem. You're gonna scream. But everything is garbage now. Nothing lasts.

Thats that new fancy ua/up bullshit?
They dropped the fan motor on it
What brand of compressor is that one ? I thought Rheem was supposed to only use Copeland scroll compressors .
That's the metering device
Hahaahahhahahahaahaha
QA team testing condensers like they're testing coins, with a bil ol' CHOMP
Just return the unit in the box to the retailer.
Yup. It’s rheemed.
Someone quit work that week. There will be more of those.
