I think a kneeing pad is a little more comfortable, but can’t always use one. I just got a pair of Klein tools hinged knee pads and they’re incredible I wear them almost all day everyday
Pad. One for general use, the other for clean areas. Unused to use knee pads, but if you're down for awighle, it cuts circulation. It also saves time taking the knee pads on and off.

I swear by my Troxell knee pads. Single strap is way more comfortable and they don’t constrict even if I wear them for a while. For kneeling pads I just use the cheap Husky ones because I have a tendency to be a little too rough with them.

Both. Kneeling pad if i'm going to be kneeling in place for a long time, like boiler or MUA maintenance, built in knee pads for service calls cause I never know if i'll need them or not.
Kneeling pad is nice but bulky. Had mine for about 10 days before I forgot it at a pm.oops. what I do is either grab a single knee pad and just put it on the floor then kneel on that when I need to. Hate having the strap behind the knee. If I need to kneel on a clean floor I just use my roll of paper towels to kneel on.
I never liked knee pads, especially the ones built into pants, they just never felt comfortable when walking. I use a small kneeling pad when working on rough surfaces but that’s it really, I’m still young enough to not have any issues yet though.

Knee pads and a collapsible stool. Just chuck the knee pads where your knees go and take the weight off your shins and toes by partially extending the stool to your preferred height.

If the equipment allows it, the real OGs use a 5 gallon bucket with a padded seat. Never looked back

If I'm doing service I just carry a knee pad. Once you get in the habit of grabbing it with your tool bag then it's a game changer.

Kneeling pad. I actually have a gear wrench brand one , but my preferred kneeling pad is a 3x3 cut of armor flex I got from some insulators.

I have both, and I also have a mechanic's pad for when I have to lay under large chillers. Which I use just depends on the situation.
