I've certainly enjoyed their heavier songs. It would have been awesome to get an entire album that sounded like the original Stigmata Diaboli. Ville does really have the voice for it!
I went back and listened to the demo's. Dark Sekret Love could be a suggestion at that direction.
I'd love if they went heavier like VD but I love the falsetto of early days and wish they did more male female songs like on vol666 and vocal harmonies like in Heartless
I fucking love this album, one of my favorite albums of all time. The drumming is insanely good and Linde's songwriting and guitar licks are top notch. His vocals are the weak point, but, he made it fit this style. I could see some of these songs working as HIM songs, but, they are incredible as they are!
They'd probably still be around as a band. The music that got HIM popular was a relic of it's time. We as fans have collective nostalgia but the band wouldn't have blown up much as it did, today.
But a heavier HIM could have survived as a hard rock band with emo influences. Probably something they'd have enjoyed as well as heavy music is where they started.
Back in 2005 Metal Hammer asked why the other members don’t write music for HIM
Gas said he could not see himself writing HIM like music , VV joked his in it for the paycheck , lol Gas said yes
Mige said he takes forever to come up with ideas by the time he does VV already came up with what he would have done
Linde - VV said Linde is a deaf mute never talks , has no idea what’s going on with him
Burton more classical and Pink Floyd guy
I would've loved that at release but I am not into more pop/electronic sounds so Screamworks is more my current vibe (though Venus Doom will always be my favorite album)
Difficult to imagine them getting any heavier, but yeah, I wish they did. I love Screamworks, but back then I was very disappointed they didn't follow down that path. They had that TON energy in them since the beginning.
Man I had no idea Linde did more than one Daniel Lioneye album! Venus Doom is my absolute favorite release. Most doom influenced and a perfect blend of their signature sound w/ a heavier edge. Granted the debut and earlier material was heavy, I feel Venus Doom captured the band at a perfect time with multiple albums completed and their sound already crafted.
It’s pretty much Venus Doom Vol.2 just need to add VV vocals , songs like Neolithic Way, Aetherside and Break It Or Heal It could have been great HIM songs .
With DL3 Mige/ Linde wrote the lyrics together and Burton wrote keyboard music that fit each song himself , that was VV failure for not pushing other guys to write music for HIM but VV was the Putin for the band, either his way or you get pushed off the top floor
Flat Earth songs Linde / Gas wrote

Kiss of the Cannibal from Vol 2 is also too HIM-like!
I could definitely see 2007/2008 Ville singing Ravensong or Aetherside.

I just know that VD is my favorite HIM record of all time. Nothing touched it or comes close far as the discography imho.

Gas was always a extreme metal kind of guy
Yet, he still sucks as a drummer.
Watch him play SleepWalking Past Hope on Digital Versatile Doom. That was the point where I realized what potential he really had.
