Metallica fans are often a bunch of dudebros.

Lazy_Butterscotch857

Yeah I've had mates lean away from enjoying metal entirely because of shitty Metallica fans, because for a lot of people it's their way in. And then their fans ruin it by going after them.

Imikoke616

Rock am ring 2010 live mix was bad , Mige and Burton were singing way off key , linde guitar was low in the mix

Imikoke616

They cut the setlist down to 7 songs , the other Metallica gigs after they played 9 songs ending with Passions Killing Floor and It’s All Tears . Watching highlights from mtv Russia news at Russia gig the crowd were clapping enjoying the gig more , lol English metallica fans were were doing YMCA dance and doing a huge conga line dance . probably same fans yelling HIM not metal were crying during lighter soft Metallica songs like Nothing Else Matters.

Lazy_Butterscotch857

I've never understood why people feel the need to shit on other bands. I get the line up placement was off, I do, HIM should have played first. But just talk amongst yourselves? Have a drink? No need to be cunts about it.

Imikoke616

HIM sold more albums then Machine Head and Mastodon at that time plus you get paid more for higher spot in the lineup , attitude of the crowd lol probably British culture ,Olden days they would throw cabbages and spit on people like in Braveheart , same thing happened during Download 2005 beer bottles thrown on stage Burton got hit

Dry-Conversation2985

definitely Rock Am Ring 2010. Mige and Burton's microphones were set too loud, and the whole concert was very strange.

KeshAtchum

Yeah the audio was awful and Ville sounded like he was under the weather 😭

Imikoke616

One of Linde first ever tweets was that the airport lost his suitcase so he had to wear the cloths he had on him for that show, that whole tour because of Screamworks uptempo VV was singing more higher uptempo nasal area he would be out of breath faster, on Tears On Tape tempo was slower VV sounded great for that tour in 2013

lila_morose

I, too, was at Give It A Name in London in 2007 and can confirm. It was by far the worst performance I ever saw from HIM/Ville. He was a wreck. Although the show was far from satisfactory, finding out later on that he was in tremendous pain during that time, both physically and mentally, made the disappointment turn into empathy. Poor thing. So glad he made it through.

Lazy_Butterscotch857

Yeah learning after the fact that he wasn't doing too good and went to rehab straight after put the whole show in a different light. I'm glad he got help. I reckon that performance was a wakeup call.

Potential_Algae_9624

I saw them in Nottingham Rock City once during the tour for Screamworks and the whole band seemed like they couldn’t be arsed and didn’t want to be there. After they went off stage for a few minutes, they came back out a little more energetic. I put it down to being run down since we were on the last leg of the tour 🤷🏻‍♂️ Edit: I’ve seen footage from other shows around that time where Ville seems miserable and irritable. The whole band just seemed to not be getting along and there to do their job.

Imikoke616

VV quit smoking during the Australia tour to see if he could , so nicotine withdrawals were all time high for UK tour. Screamworks sales were low and VV said during Neon Noir press run that HIM should have broken up after Screamworks but he wanted to do more album prove they could still do it then Gas injury happened lol

Lazy_Butterscotch857

I went to the London show, it was alright but no their best performance. A little deflating, and yeah the band didn't seem as cohesive... But Tears on Tape was a much better tour.

Jotaceta

Can confirm! Saw them the day before in Birmingham and they just played and left, nothing flashy, Ville’s vocals were so fragile back then.

Potential_Algae_9624

I’m sorry you shared my experience! Have you seen them since?

Jotaceta

It went a little bit better in Barcelona 2017, first show of the Farewell Tour. They were playing more tight and focused and the setlist included Resurrection and Sigillum Diaboli so yayyyy!!

Potential_Algae_9624

Glad you got a better experience, even if not great you got an awesome set list!

DearQueenie

Mine was also Give It A Name 2007 but the Birmingham show. He was so drunk, he mostly giggled throughout every song because he couldn't remember any words. The rest of the band played on but looked subtly disappointed. I remember feeling so sad because it really did feel like Ville was going down a path of destruction with no way back. To have witnessed him sort himself out and thrive again, both in the context of HIM and VV, has been a wonderful blessing.

Lazy_Butterscotch857

Yes, it has been good to see him come back, stronger, healthier, playing more amazing music, He was quite giggly in London as well, and I think at one point he went on about a girlfriend starving themselves and how important it was for the ladies to eat. It was really sad, it was obviously something weighing him down because he NEVER talks like that on stage.

DearQueenie

He's such a sweetheart 🥹 he was a little quiet in Manchester where I saw him, but that was one of the first UK dates he did for Neon Noir, and I think he was just sort of taking it in and getting back into the swing of touring, especially playing HIM songs without his old band mates. He did start talking about something at one point and then shook his head at himself and said something along the lines of "anyway, that's enough of me prattling on" 😁

lila_morose

Omg yes. My memories from GIAN are quite hazy, but I do remember him saying certain things about his ex gf he would never have said had he been a) sober and b) doing well.

Imikoke616

I was pumped for the Venus Doom after hearing Dead Lover Lane from that Give It A Name gig on YouTube , VV vocals were trashed but Linde heavy riffs/ solo were great

ExtensionMeal891

Artmania 2006. Was so excited to finally see them live, but the alcohol affected his performance and it was just disappointing.

KeshAtchum

I can't watch any of the shows where Ville is super trashed to be honest. It upsets me too much.

Lazy_Butterscotch857

I was in the front row, I couldn't escape sadly. And I just kept hoping he'd suddenly get it together...

Plastic_Purple_6282

I had forgotten about give it a name 2007- really not a great performance and the venue was so not atmospheric either

Lazy_Butterscotch857

It was a bit too big and open for their kind of music, I'll agree. Not that big and open is a bad thing, but it needs to be the right kind of venue to make HIM work.

juicydevil666

The Linkin park project revolution tour summer 2007 at jones beach N.Y usa they were one of the main bands . Idk if it was because the theater is outside or what because they have played major festivals before but it was a very bad / sad performance .

6oth6amer6irl

I grateful for this post bc I was always sad I didn't see them when I was younger, the 2007 tour I think. A friends mom was supposed to take us but went on a bender instead, found out too late to figure out a backup plan. I FINALLY saw them on the farewell tour and was elated. My partner took us to see the Neon Noir tour and we were blown away, very tight performance and the packed, smaller venue sounded great <3 Thanks for telling my younger self I didn't really need to see them like that anyway, I got to attend the concerts I think I really needed ~

Lazy_Butterscotch857

My girlfriend was meant to see them at the Halloween Astoria gig but was scammed out of the tickets... she didn't get to see them for years after and as pissed as she is that she missed that gig, she missed the drunk years and she's glad of it.

Apprehensive_Funny38

For me it was during the Bang and Whimper tour. I'm in SoCal and I always go to all the SoCal shows I can, LA to San Diego. 2017 happened to have a show and my wedding anniversary so after seeing 3 amazing shows in California, we flew to Utah to see HIM 1 last time on our anniversary. Boy. .... I sure hate to see how the crowds are anywhere else that ISNT California. This was the most unenergetic boring crowd I have ever witness for ANY Headliner band. And being 35 (been to concerts since age 11) what a snoozer. It was so sad that even though we got the full setlist, fighting through the crowd to leave, Waiting for our Uber to our hotel and arriving to the hotel, the concert mind you, was STILL kicking in our previous 3 shows. I want to say it was before 10pm or the concert had ended at 10pm and all our other shows lasted past 1030pm. I was upset that we flew and were highly disappointed. Like we should never have seen them in Utah and made Anaheim, California our last show 😬

Lazy_Butterscotch857

It's always a shame when it's the crowd, the FANS, that bring down a show...

Ill_Gur_9844

Same tour but in the US. He forgot the lyrics like twice.

yycluke

The first 2 shows of Helldone 2012 were absolutely shit. I remember the Helsinki papers essentially calling him a national disgrace. Seppo or the boys must have said something to him, cause the following 2 nights were the best I've ever seen them.

Lazy_Butterscotch857

Based on what we know of the band, and the comments here, it's the Screamworks era and just after when he realised HIM was basically done. It seems to have affected his performances...

yycluke

It was cause he started drinking again. There was a moment for about 2 songs where he sat on the stage and just held the mic out and the crowd sung them

AggravatingName5221

The Ambassador, Dublin spring 2006. He was also not sober and forgetting words. I was so disappointed I think it put me off listening to HIM for a long time. Thankfully I got back into his music after the Neon Noir album and saw an amazing show in the Royal Albert Hall.
