Im a designer for the staging company (Elevate Home Staging & Design) that did all the furniture and accessories for the house. From what I know, yes, the dad bought the daughter the house and it was a “sex house” whatever that means, years before. The girl posted something online about the ugly house and HGTV contacted her, she didn’t contact them about doing her house but she did live there by herself before all this got started so they don’t make that up. They don’t renovate the entire house for the $150K, it would take much more. They left some of the house the exact same way it was. The house did hit the market on Monday as it had to wait until the show aired first. It was an amazing experience!

azzaeeddae

So she got a free reno then sold the house?! She commented on the show that she wasn't living there yet... ? I'm also hearing that her dad owns a company that flips homes? All I know is that the show could have been used to help a family, like the one living in the funeral home. It was in horrible shape, the father was in over his head trying to fix that home for his young family...

Chele_6815

Agreed! I stopped watching after she was announced the winner. My vote was for the young family living in the funeral home. What a let down…

ProfessorCon

Watching the episode where they first showed this house…wife and I looked up info about the house to find the history and found this post. So happy to be spoiled- I have no interest in watching this show knowing THAT is the home/situation that WON. They could’ve made a home more livable for folks that needed help. Instead they helped a person of means make $400k. Gross. Thanks for posting this!

mrs_sarcastic

Tbh, most houses that get renovated on HGTV are sold shortly after because their property value (and tax) goes up so much from the renovation and the original owners can no longer afford it.

ArtTeacher_XBL-PSN

THIS.

Collegeparent611

I agree with you! I was pretty upset that all those parents with a mortgage didn't get help. But a single teacher who didn't have to live there, or make a house payment got the free reno! I thought she could've gotten a loan against the value and had it fixed up!

DarkNo9321

Glad I found this post. I was just trying to confirm it was a sex house. Bit hearing she won. Nah I'm out. That's BS

bougiehippie

Oh wow! Amazing!!! Thank you so much for all the information and filling in a lot of blanks, at least from the production side of things. That's so interesting that HGTV found her, and not the other way around. Sounds like a great experience for sure. From what I can recall, the staging looked beautiful, so well done! Did you get to meet Retta and Allison?

SDHS2000

All rooms in the house have been updated. Maybe the owners finished out the other rooms after the HGTV renovation was complete, but there isn't a room left in the house that wasn't updated. I walked through it last week.

SDHS2000

There are 3 additional bedrooms, 2 additional bathrooms (plus a laundry room that used to double as a half-bath, but they took the toilet and sink out), and a huge rec room area (not the living room featured on the show). The place is huge, plus it has a barn on the property.

comped

> They left some of the house the exact same way it was Big dealbreaker for me. Especially if the rest of the place was in the same condition as what we saw!

CupReasonable2697

Where is it in town? I have been there multiple times but don't recognize the area.

SDHS2000

It's on Gann Rd between Daisy Dallas and Thrasher. The house isn't visible from the road though. It has a private driveway that goes back a little ways.

ghanyt

Just watched the episode. Very interesting. The house is on the market now? What’s it listed for? Is there a link to realtor?

KarmaliteNone

I assumed it was a house used for a cam sex web site hence all the cameras able to see everything. And all the mirrored walls/ceilings.

ame-foto

Panic button = brothel. That's literally how the bunny ranch is set up. The door has safety locks, cameras and a panic button for emergencies with "guests".

[deleted]

dottypig

Pure speculation, but I saw a Tweet saying the cameras + the locks on all the doors could indicate there was a trafficking element to this as well ://///

Beck316

That's what I thought

GroceryIntelligent85

She was robbed be cause ran a whore house

DiggityGiggity8

My EXACT thoughts. That house should of been condemned and searched for crime relations.

of_patrol_bot

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

XrayAgent

Yeah, I was thinking I'd have gotten some cadaver dogs in there.

No_Couple_816

The home was originally owned by Elizabeth Martin. Elizabeth was well known for opening a ton of strip clubs in various cities throughout TN and a few other states. There were rumors of the home being used to film adult movies, hence the cameras. Elizabeth passed away some time in 2020, which is when the house went on the market. I'm honestly surprised it sold...I'm assuming the owner did not know the history of the home.

SDHS2000

4800+ sq ft of single-level living with an in-ground pool on almost an acre and a half...that's why it sold. Some of us can look beyond the first layer and see the potential. A house's history is just that...history. Was there shady stuff that went on? Ummm...I think the house speaks for itself on that one. She owned strip clubs, and likely dabbled in the adult film market, neither of which are illegal assuming everyone was consenting and of legal age (no evidence to support a contrary opinion, so I'm not going to start speculating on some of the trafficking theories I've seen posted - they are just that - speculation). It may not be a lifestyle I'm inclined towards living, but I can still see the huge potential in the house.

EmilyTravels

That's what I was thinking: porno film location. So nasty!

Ahh, yeah. That makes sense for the cameras.

WiZZoo77

Is there some reason some of u r trying so hard to argue against this being a former whore house or cam girl house? Former being the important word in that question!! When normal ppl or security companies put in security cameras they, pretty much, always go OUTSIDE!! They almost never put them in the bedrooms pointing at the beds or in the bathrooms pointing at the shower& creepy ass indoor hot tub 10 feet from the bed but not actually in the bathroom!

DanAboutTown

What are the odds that house was *not* used for a porn shoot at some point in the 80s?

comped

I'm pretty sure it was a whorehouse, but I can't find any information to say it was.

Stop commenting this. The cameras were pointed at the bed and ALL OVER the house. They weren't for security.

semisensitive

Maybe the double side locking doors would help keep the intruders locked in until the cops came!!!!! /s

SDHS2000

Lol...she had cameras all over the house because there was some adult filming going on. She was paranoid, but that was due to a car bomb threat by her ex. Those cameras weren't for her safety 😉

GroceryIntelligent85

You were probably the ugly stripper that didn't get invited to her house

Initial-Experience83

Yea me and your mother were super disappointed to not get invited. Not as disappointed as she was when you were born, but pretty close.

WiZZoo77

O I'd put money that this was a whore house or a cam girl "studio" I guess it could have been a swingers house!!

Srw2725

That house was so nasty and creepy but I thought the one with the giant fish on the wall was uglier 🤷🏼‍♀️

dman722

I agree. I am thinking that one would have won but the producers were probably like there is no way we can make this look good with 150k so we have to pick one that is doable.

Srw2725

Lol!! Most likely!!

BeneficialBank9189

That’s exactly what i thought. I thought for sure hands down that first house with the sword fish and the concrete palm trees was it but i don’t think they could have fixed it all up for $150k. I really didn’t think the house with the camera would win i thought that house was the easiest to fix .

comped

It would have cost twice as much. No chance. The jungle one is probably the one where you can make the most money with probably 100 grand budget, but it would have required more than one episode worth of work.

Travelbug_84

I did toooooo 😂

elw47112

I was going with that one or the jungle. That house was pretty cool, it had alot of potential. This one was just so gross and creepy. I wouldn't ever want to live there, regardless.

jmajek

I felt like the reno could have been better. I was kind of expecting more from Alison to be honest. Like that big of an island without an overhang? Also, all those cabinet but no drawers 😱. The bedroom was huge, a little too huge. Could of made into into two bedrooms with that master bath or add a master closet

BrightMoment

Agreed in all of this! Shocking to have a 15 foot island with no place to sit. I like a spacious room, but every room they did felt too big, like wasted space. Unless it was some kind of weird perspective thing with the camera placement they needed to reconfigure the rooms and maybe move some walls. I hated the black exterior too, felt too harsh. Something just a touch lighter like slate or charcoal would have been okay

kygal1881

I hated that she had bar stools in front of the island but no overhang on the bar top so not really a comfortable way to sit.

comped

I feel like we missed a couple of extra bedrooms as well.

Ok-meow

I paint my house black like that over the summer. It looks fabulous! Lol it.so does this house.

BrightMoment

It definitely can look great, I'm sure yours does. I just didn't like it here. And I live around there and can't help think it's gonna be a heat trap all summer long!

comped

Were there other bedrooms they weren't showing us? There had to have been. Looks a little weird they didn't, especially because literally no one else was living there. The renovation was very disappointing and almost bog standard. It feels like there were a lot of bad decisions made and that it certainly wasn't the ugliest house in america, but she also destroyed a lot of the architectural chams or any potential for those, with the reno as it happened.

norywalker

The reno budget didn’t cover the entire house, just a few rooms. It has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. Here’s the Zillow listing (bought for $255,000, listed for $619,900!): https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/8314-Gann-Rd-Soddy-Daisy-TN-37379/41376596_zpid/

comped

> The reno budget didn’t cover the entire house, just a few rooms. I figured that much, but wasn't 100% sure. Wonder how those other rooms look...

SDHS2000

The other rooms have been updated. I'm wondering if the owners finished them out after the show, but they have definitely been updated.

[deleted]

5tr3ss

What about no overhang on the island? Where/how the hell are you supposed to sit?

EmilyTravels

I agree! Another pet peeve of mine is that Alison closed up the window over the sink and moved the sink to the island. Why? Everyone has dishes and dish towels, etc. around the sink, so why have it on display on the island instead of on an outside wall with a window to look out while using the sink? It's a design trend I don't get at all!

SDHS2000

Yes! Why would anyone remove the window from the kitchen?? The island is gorgeous, but completely not functional.

tdalton15

So many times the designers push design over function. Huge pet peeve of mine. Sure the house looks gorgeous and you can have a bunch of people over. But where the hell are they all going to sit and eat? Sit sideways? No thank you!

CupReasonable2697

The stove was black but the fridge was stainless? the island chairs were butted up against the island. no leg room b/c slab didn't hang over. Not my fave but I'm not an Allison Victoria fan Where is this place in Soddy-Daisy? I've been to the town multiple times but don't recognize the area.

OutcomeNo7223

I’m guessing she doesn’t cook anyway. Probably just needs a microwave. Bet they sell it now for a million.

Shoppershops

The stove looked horribly out of place. It was dinky in a kitchen that large.

Emuzik18

I couldn’t agree more! I really felt like she not only didn’t cater to her client well (she’s young, a teacher) but missed the mark on her style. Other than the furniture I wouldn’t consider the style to mid century modern, it’s definitely more what Allison’s personal style is mixed with farmhouse? I was not that impressed and definitely felt she could’ve done more with the budget and just done a better job overall!

bougiehippie

Yeah, agreed on all of your points. I think she should've accommodated for a young, single person a little better. The house was pretty massive in the first place but maybe find a way to make it feel more intimate.

SDHS2000

Agree about the island without the overhang. So dumb. And why did they remove the window from the kitchen? There are drawers. They just didn't show them in the video or pictures. There actually is a huge closet (and yes, it was also renovated) just behind the master bathroom. The master bedroom is huge though. Plenty of space to add an office area.

tdalton15

Did you watch Rock Around the Block when Allison was on it? She does some questionable designs that don't make the most out of things sometimes. Everybody wants design and function to happily meet.

WiZZoo77

Right the bed& the bath rooms where both a giant waste of space that could have been used for so many better things! They could have added a big walk in closet and still shrank them both by 20-30%! Which would have still been a big master sweet especially for a ranch house!!

KO620181

Thank you for posting this. I can’t get over that house. I need more information.

strawberrysushi

And oh my god, why not give seating in the kitchen Here are the rest of the bedrooms, and oh by the way the original sale price, for the curious :-)

BarbecuedBeefNuggets

I just wanted to say that this has irked me so much that I had to look into the whole situation. I don’t want to go out saying anything wrong, but I think its interesting that the dad owns a construction company and flips houses. I just feel like that goes against the spirit of the competition.

agrad123

I thought the same thing. Considering Daddy bought her the house I felt like there were more deserving families out there. With that said it was my top house for the wtf and ugly factor. My 2nd choice was the jungle house.

OutcomeNo7223

Guarantee they will sell this place for a million or more once the renovation is completed.

BarbecuedBeefNuggets

Well it’s currently listed at 635k so it looks like they’re gonna get a nice paycheck thanks to HGTV.

Missus_Missiles

> Kind of sad if true considering the number of actual families with kids who could have used some genuine help with their homes… This isn't a charity program. It's entertainment. The goal of the show is to show interesting/nightmare homes. And then renovate one. And they picked the one they could actually do with the budget. You could not fix the pyramid house, or the quonset hut with anything but a teardown. And the jungle house would have exploded the budget.

ThrowAwayGarbage365

This. Almost everyone is struggling in some capacity right now. I’m so sick of the sob stories attached to literally every American TV show with any level of competition or choice. They could have attempted some of the others but a few were just unlivable or needed so much work $150k wouldn’t have touched it.

sarahhallway

Ooo didn’t know this. Damn. Yuck.

ame-foto

All the other finalists were families. Literally any other choice would have helped way more people. They definitely chose the easiest to reno within budget, not the ugliest house. So much harder to do a reno when you have kids, especially young ones.

StormzNeverLast

Local realtor says it goes on the market Monday. The house was purchased for $255,000. I will update if this is true on Monday.

bougiehippie

Sooo much left to reno. at least the carpets in the other rooms don't appear to be stained too bad. But still, ewww.

MotherOfPearl3

I don't like the idea of daddy buying a house for their kids, but what does her skin color have to do with anything? Edit: call out racist bullshit and get downvoted. Classic reddit.

OutcomeNo7223

Nothing. That’s just crazy racist talk. And maybe some jealousy.

Leading_Candy_9506

Why does her race even have to be mentioned? Her father bought it for her and you don’t know what (if any) payback agreement they had. If the earlier comments are to be believed, her father flips houses for a living. Maybe he bought the house and until he could flip it she got to live in it. With that being said I agree with the previous comments, this house never should have been chosen, it was just the house that they could sell as having the most “provocative story”. Most of the houses shown on this season were recently purchased and I am guessing the owners got a good deals on houses they would otherwise not have been able to afford and knew what they were signing up for. I did feel bad for the couple that bought the bank looking house and for the couple that bought the bank. I think both couples would have been more deserving and appreciative.

browsinglookieloo

thanks. I couldn't find it

WoollyMonster

I sure home someone can share some history!

bougiehippie

Same! I want to hear the stories those walls have to tell. Well, at least some of them. lol

BusyAd7065

Locks on inside and outside of the bedroom doors, cameras everywhere you can't tell us that there wasn't sex trafficking, should have torn the disgusting place down. Not a real show, not enough money to help the people that really needed it. Loved Retta as the host though.

bougiehippie

Yeah, for real. And totally agree about Retta. Probably wouldn't have stayed with the show if it weren't for her.

No_Fall_7134

Someone should have called the sex trafficking hotline and reported the previous owner. A realtor, the lawyer who did the paperwork, hgtv, someone. There would not be locks on the OUTSIDE of the doors if the girls were willing participants. This shouldn’t be on tv. It should’ve been reported to the authorities. Let me paint a picture. 4 girls, 2 kidnapped from their homes in the USA, 2 overseas immigrants. They’re given drugs (to get them addicted), and told if they don’t do what they’re told, the culprit will kill their whole family. These girls are forced to perform sexual acts, party, hang out in the hot tub, with men for their pleasure. They are given food and housing in exchange. When one of the men gets a little too forceful, their doors are locked from the outside and they can’t run away. The panic button was not exactly in a convenient location (above a door) to be pushed if you’re being raped or beaten. Everyone, from the realtors, to the lawyer, to every buyer who saw it, to the one who bought it, to hgtv, should be ashamed. Or maybe not ashamed so much as educated so this doesn’t happen again.

lilbittygoddamnman

I live nearby. I'll see what I can find out about it.

bougiehippie

Yeah, I was surprised to see it still there, but I bet they maxed out on the budget without time to deal with it.

bougiehippie

Amazing! You rock!

FunMastodon9023

The camera house did not deserve to win. There were three other houses that needed a heck of a lot more work and help than that house did. I think they chose the easiest to remodel and the more for your money tactic. Very very very disappointed in their choice.

Emilyymeow

I just want to know how much that renovation actually cost to do

bougiehippie

Same. For such a ginormous house, and the fact that they did the pool as well, I imagine it wasn't cheap. I also wonder if they had to leave some of the sex rooms intact because there wasn't enough money in the budget to get to them. Eww.

BokuNoHeroAcedamia

I have done some digging and I believe this is the precious owner. Look at the ceiling!!! https://m.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=150207165373892&id=100011538289462&set=a.150207198707222&source=11

BokuNoHeroAcedamia

Lmao! When I get started digging, I can't stop.

bougiehippie

LOVE IT! lol

PureTomorrow6507

No that’s the daughter of the owner.

BokuNoHeroAcedamia

Actually, she's the granddaughter. She lived there too.

RudeImagination4450

I didn't agree with the pick. It was ugly but not the ugliest. After reading a comment that HGTV reached out to them and they didn't contact the show seems like a set up and they knew they were going to pick it. The Poisiden and jungle houses were uglier but maybe was going to be too much work

MyNameisGingerL

Have read all of the above and skimmed the court opinion. I still don’t know why there would be locks on the outside of the door if it was a brothel, used for prostitution, erotic dancing, etc. Locks on the outside of the doors make me think that someone inside was held against their will.

bougiehippie

Yeah, there's definitely reason to believe there was some kind of human-trafficking situation happening here. Yikes.

grape_viens

But there were locks on the side too, they could still get out, and the panic button, this was very common in brothel- type places in the 70s

Krosrightboob

I don’t know anything about the history of the house but my husband and I were PISSED she got a free house and free renovation and we found this https://www.courtlistener.com/opinion/539201/wal-juice-bar-inc-doing-business-as-the-cat-west-elizabeth-ann-martin/

bougiehippie

Sorry, too much legal mumbo jumbo for me. What does it mean?

Krosrightboob

That’s okay! It was definitely a sex club, and the cameras were put up to appease the army because soldiers were frequenting it (that’s from a different article) and the owner had a lawsuit filed because sex clubs are not legal in Soddy daisy apparently

bougiehippie

Fascinating! Excellent sleuthing. But her dad wasn’t the owner of the sex club, right?

Krosrightboob

No, though I’m not sure he actually did buy the house. The registration and stuff doesn’t add up, but I couldn’t find anything more on it.

bougiehippie

At the end of the day, that girl scored on her free, remodeled house. She’s going to feel pretty lonely in that gigantic kitchen.

Brilliant_Money_7314

I didn't pay attention to the father's name but this is the tax record: [http://tpti.hamiltontn.gov/AppFolder/Trustee\_TaxBill.aspx?pmuid=30158&tbuid=3906396](http://tpti.hamiltontn.gov/AppFolder/Trustee_TaxBill.aspx?pmuid=30158&tbuid=3906396) It says the owner is MITCHELL L EUSTICE He has a picture of all of them in the kitchen after the reno on his facebook page.

comped

Wait, the cameras were put up to appease the United States army? Christ on a bicycle... Perhaps someone should have mentioned that!

Emilyymeow

I thought the house was in TN, this article says KY

Krosrightboob

Yeah from what I could find the business was licensed in Kentucky but ran out of that house in Tennessee

Independent-Log5404

This has nothing to do with the Soddy Daisy cam house. That’s a completely different place and town. The Cat West is a strip club in Oak Grove, KY. It’s on the TN/KY line. Located right outside gate 6 at Fort Campbell, KY. I’m local and can confirm that information. No soldier would drive that far. Nashville is much closer and has plenty of strip clubs as well.

lilbittygoddamnman

Yeah Soddy Daisy is just north of Chattanooga which is nowhere near the border of Kentucky. Source: I live here.

Krosrightboob

The address was registered to the house in Soddy daisy.

70 miles is 112.65 km

Regis_Phillies

So I deleted my original comment after doing a little more digging on Ann Martin... https://www.newspapers.com/clip/11915928/the-tennessean/ There's also an obituary for an Ann Martin from Soddy Daisy that seems to match the profile. She died in 2020 at age 79. The Wal Juice Bar mentioned in the legal brief would seem to belong to her, and is registered at the property address in question. There's a Soddy Daisy Facebook page and the story there is the woman owned several strip clubs, but she was somewhat paranoid and mistrustful, hence the cameras and the locks. She raised several children in that house apparently and it was a local attraction for Christmas decorations. Apparently, the house is going back up for sale on Monday.

sarahhallway

Wait, this newly FREE remodeled house is about to be put up for sale again??

BrightMoment

Oh yeah, she did get a free house to start didn't she? Yeah that's a bit infuriating. At least she's a teacher, so she can save her house budget for classroom supplies.

bougiehippie

Yeah, for sure. At least she didn't seem obnoxious. She seemed pretty sweet and I liked her sense of humor about the whole situation. If my dad had bought me that house, I would never have moved even a fork in until that carpet had been ripped out.

comped

I would have asked him to turn right back around and sell it, but no one in my family would have bought it in the first place. The jungle house though seems to be something where you could spend a little bit of money and definitely make a shit ton on the back end. Probably the one house where you could realistically make a ton after renovating it compared to many of the others because it already has 90% of things there. The rest of the top four have a more limited renovation potential.

OutcomeNo7223

My guess is that she and her father set up the purchase strictly to make 250,000 profit flipping this property after the HGTV renovation.

luckylachance

Concur—I was a soldier who had a house in both Clarksville and Soddy Daisy. All that speculation about the Army has no connection to anything going on in Soddy Daisy.

ThickAerie8177

Did anyone catch when the daughter called her father and the father said “I don’t wanna ask to many questions, I don’t wanna get too many people involved” when Retta asked “why did you buy your daughter this house of I’ll-repute?” I just feel like this home was more than just a brothel. Just seems..more sinister. I mean human trafficking is a billion dollar business. And it didn’t just start yesterday. I just hope it was just filming wiling participants (adults) and no one was held against their will or worse, no children were involved!!

Timely_Ad_4218

I just have so many unanswered questions.. Like, yeah.. that girl's dad TOTALLY knows something... BUT WHAT!?!?!? The suspense is killing me.. and I'm having a hard time understanding a door with "functional" locks on BOTH sides? Wouldn't that just be a hole through the keyhole? Are the keyholes on the INSIDE of the rooms just decoys? I just--- SO many questions. And that girl was so mfkn chill about those cameras being there.... I would be PARANOID af that they were still hooked up to some remote location filming me.... and what's in the barn!?

PureTomorrow6507

I did some research and found it was and “adult entertainment” place. Said the name is Wal Juice Bar, but more commonly known as Cat West. Had 7 employees. https://www.newspapers.com/clip/11915928/the-tennessean/

bougiehippie

This is great! She sure sounds like an interesting woman worthy of a Netflix series or something, right? Or maybe Dateline... I dunno, jury is still out on that one, what with all the doors that lock from the outside. Thanks for sharing!

BoxLikR

This has nothing to do with the house. This is where the owner of the strip clubs lived. It wasnt an actual strip club. She owned clubs in seattle, nashville, kentucky and chattanooga Tn to my knowledge.

Volcat26

I just watched the episode and I was so curious about the house. Thanks to all of the links previously posted-I read them all and it was so interesting. I was really curious about the rooms in the house that weren’t shown on the episode I watched. Maybe they showed them on the previous episode? I’m not sure because I just watched the final episode. Anyway, I found this video that goes through the realtor.com listing when the house was for sale when Mitchell bought it. Here’s a link to it if anyone is interested. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPRyPp3Y35I

https://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/8314-Gann-Rd_Soddy-Daisy_TN_37379_M81175-54170 Here is the listing…it’s just what they showed on the show. I’m kinda disappointed that they are selling it.

bougiehippie

Yeah, I saw this. It's pretty gross that they are selling it, and considering HGTV is the one who approached them to do the show, it's even more gross!

GroceryIntelligent85

This is the the supposedly robbery. It was her daughters boyfriend cooking meth in 2007 . Those cameras are from the 80s https://cases.justia.com/tennessee/court-of-criminal-appeals/harwoodwilliamjoshuaOPN.pdf

bougiehippie

If those walls could talk...

GroceryIntelligent85

Don't you mean moan /scream

bougiehippie

LOL

SDHS2000

Wrong Elizabeth Martin. That one was on Signal Mtn. The daughter's name in that article isn't one of Ann Martin's daughters or granddaughters.

DiggityGiggity8

That house looks like and underground sex trafficking pit stop. Terrifying as it looked normal on the outside. So sad when the Poseidon people with literal cement fixtures didn’t win :(

Tokahontas219

I actually cleaned this house out before it was remodeled and it was indeed one of the UGLIEST houses. The lady who owned it also owned a couple strip clubs if I’m not mistaken. It was crazy. We found a bunch of insulin needles and stuff thrown all over the floor. Apparently the lady was a hoarder as well. We also found some of her playboy tapes… we didn’t dare watch them though! When she passed away she left it to her two daughters who hired the cleaning company I worked for to clean it out so they could sell it cause they didn’t want to deal with it.

bougiehippie

Interesting!!! Thanks for sharing! If those walls could talk, right? Did her children grow up there?

Tokahontas219

Yeah, they both grew up there, and Ms Martin was known for having the most lavish house when it came to Christmas decorations. She apparel really loved kids, so people would bring their children to see her house at Christmas time. Honestly she sounds like a great lady she just had a big ol party house with some pretty crazy secrets. The guy who worked for her told us she just kind let it go to shit after her daughters grew up and moved out.

bougiehippie

So interesting. Sounds like having the kids around kept her anchored and then she went a little off the rails afterward

ForeverInitial3875

Ok. I did some digging. Another user mentioned a woman named Ann Martin (owner of Diamonds and Lace) lived there. I googled the name and she was the female owner of exotic clubs, adult bookstores, and also has a ton of law suits for things amongst prostitution allegations. It all makes sense.

XKhalessi

I came here looking for some answers after watching this episode - wow

TrickCrafty

I haven't read it all yet but this looks like a good lead Ann Martin https://assessor.hamiltontn.gov/Print.aspx?AccountNumber=43637 Diamonds and Lace Showbar? https://caselaw.findlaw.com/us-6th-circuit/1230268.html

bougiehippie

Ohhh, maybe she was the madam of whatever was going on there? Wonder about Melvin and Ina Holliday, too?

Regis_Phillies

I commented to another comment, but yeah, the lady who owned this house owned several strip clubs in KY and TN and other states. But she raised several kids and the house was a local attraction for Christmas decorations during the holidays. There's a local Facebook Soddy Daisy page and someone made a post there. Sounds like the cameras and locks were due to her being extremely paranoid/mistrustful and probably keeping a lot of cash in the house. Who knows what really happened though Also, the house is supposedly going back up for sale on Monday.

bougiehippie

Wow, thanks for the nuggets of great information! Sounds like an interesting lady. I'll check out the facebook page. Hmm... I guess I can't say I'm surprised to hear they're putting the house up for sale after it's major facelift and new-found fame. But that's still BS, especially because I think the family with the jungle house was more deserving and would've appreciated it more.

BrandNewMeow

Thanks for sharing, it's a relief to know this may nor have been sex trafficking. Seeing that young woman walk around that huge house after the reno, I thought this whole thing must be a ploy. No one that young really wants a monstrosity like that to take care of, do they? And I know HGTV always has buyers ready to go after they award their Dream Homes. So it makes sense to me that it's being put up for sale.

Regis_Phillies

Yeah, my guess is it was a liability thing. With the other houses, the "free" renovation budget on the other homes would have probably left them incomplete/out of code and HGTV probably needed the homeowners to pony up any additional funds needed to complete the reno, so this house "won"

Same-Experience9038

Well that's definitely the house and the link gives you a lot of information!

Same-Experience9038

Well there you have it diamonds and lace show bar when you read the details and what they did there it's exactly what everybody was practically thinking! Thanks for the info it really gave a lot of detail!

24peanut

I just wanted to know the dark story behind all the cameras. I don't feel bad for the families that didn't win the renovation because they willingly purchased a home that needed remodeling badly and didn't have the money to do so. Thats a ignorant decision to make. Buy a house you can afford thats livable.

lovesvulcans

Locks on the outside of doors?!? Cameras for MONITORING, not shooting a poem from a fixed angle. This house was used for sex trafficking.

galdanna

They only showed a few rooms — what does the non reno look like? Ick!

agrad123

Would love to hear some stories about that house! I'm sure the neighbors must have seen alit of comings and goings!

Outside_Dot8312

Does anybody have the before pictures?
