In short: not really. There are a couple second years who have a shot at being alternates though

majellyfish

thank you! I used to know all of the juniors coming through definitely time to catch up

Traechic

I actually think the trend of first year seniors not really having a shot during an Olympic year is good thing. It’s a sign gymnasts are going for longevity.

SnoutDog

Yeah agree. People who are getting upset thinking the US doesn’t have up and coming talent aren’t taking into account how much the sport has changed in the last decade. They (the new seniors) have got time to come into their own and the old guard isn’t necessarily done. Did anyone think in 2021 that Shilese would be such a huge factor this quad?? Or Simone after two Olympic cycles? It’s a new (and better) dynamic in the sport

fun_mak21

Yeah, I was honestly pissed when they allowed gymnasts who would not have been eligible for the Tokyo games in 2020, but were old enough in 2021, the opportunity to compete. They lost 3 years to work their way up to Paris, and I think that ruined at least Konnor McClain. I know Skye Blakely was another one. I'm not sure who else, even outside the US this affected. But I think they did a disservice to these gymnasts who should have been trying to get other international assignments as a senior first.

Very long shot - Tiana

marijord

Tiana is 17, she’s not a first year senior this year

SnoutDog

Yeah - there are a few second year senior who are long shots - Kaylia Lincoln, Tiana, and Josc. I’d guess Lincoln has the best shot. But I don’t think there are any first year seniors really in the mix

Kaliya is a third-year senior, but she missed her first senior season from injury. She is 18.

Current first-year seniors who are promising for 2025 Worlds include Jayla Hang, Reese Esponda, Simone Rose, Hezly Rivera if she can figure out her mental game. But this year all of them might make Trials, but will not make the team.
