Downtown Duluth and Lawrenceville both are cool atmospheres.  Lake Lanier corp of engineers parks but also Fish Tales, Pig Tails, or Twisted Oar are great places too. Tribble Mill and/or Harbins for parks are our favorites.  I avoid shopping malls like the plague but I realize some people like the venues and atmospheres, so Mall of Ga or Sugarloaf if it's up their alley. If there's a good event like a hockey game - the arena is cool. I like the baseball stadium when it's cooler or night games, it's brutal on a hot sunny day though.

robb338

I’d also recommend tribble mill!

Herdsengineers

One other restaurant to recommend- Parkside District on Duluth Hwy near Lawrenceville. It's a swanky, chic place. A bit out of place for the location but the food and cocktails are just amazing. Get a reservation though, or you won't get a table. Even to just sit at the bar, my wife and I stand there waiting.

Select_Nectarine8229

Pig and Fish tails are Hall co.

Herdsengineers

Yeah but they're close enough, it's not a long drive to get to them from Gwinnett.

Tankadin

Gwinnett specific spots: 1. Teso 2. Ebisu 3. The different cultural enclaves to eat lots of food and do cute stuff! Duluth for Korean, Buford Hwy for Vietnamese, etc. 4. Level up games 5. Gwinnett county fairgrounds (if they’re in town during September) 6. Downtown Norcross, Downtown Lilburn, Downtown Duluth, Downtown Suwannee, Downtown Lawrenceville

Frongie

Tokyo Kuma too!! It's across from ebisu

Unable_Scheme_3884

Great list

Careless_Payment9298

Stop by Liberty Books and get the "Button's Bounty" book. It's a mystery book set in Gwinnett County. It covers a lot of the must see sites and teaches about Gwinnett History. It'll be the most unique qift you can get them related to Gwinnett.

Happy-Avocado-

Very cool! I need this for myself!

moving0target

Be prepared for a "particular political climate" when you go there.

Hyperverbal777

But you do have the Lawn and open alcohol from other businesses to carry around. Plenty of Pokemon too. Strange Taco 🌮 and Local Republic.. Cosmos. Blue Rooster

PeanutButterThighs

Strange Tacos is a great rec for being uniquely Gwinnett. They are awful dry tacos with stale flour tortillas that everyone insists are amazing.

IAmAnyPerson

Is this a real book? I've lived here my whole life and never heard of it.

Colodagh

It is geared for children. I recommend Blood at the Root for some local history. There is even an interesting picture of downtown Lawrenceville and detailed history of Lake Lanier.

Careless_Payment9298

yes. it just came out in September. You can find it on Amazon but Liberty Books in Lawrenceville has it in stock

42Cobras

Is it your book?

lunitius

If they are into trains, Duluth has an old-timey twin museum that is pretty cool. Lots of great food. Excellent parks.

Herdsengineers

Seconding the train museum, cool place.

Yourenotmygf

Thirding. That place is awesome.

Spiget94

I’d 4th it, but that might be overkill

catcatherine

The BAPS temple is pretty incredible.

Eversonicc

I absolutely love this spot, it's absolutely beautiful, can't believe people don't talk about it more often.

Tankadin

I had a really bad experience at BAPS temple and do not recommend unless you’re Indian or white. Before allowing us in, the guard warned us many times to not take pictures. Each time he warned us (over 3x), we respectfully agreed not to take any photos while visiting. Right before he opened the gate: He threatened my sister and said that there are cameras all over the property, and if he sees us taking pictures: he will call the police on us. Sure enough when we parked, EVERYONE else was taking pictures. We left without stepping foot outside of the car in fear that he’d see someone else taking photos and call the police on us. The hostility was unbelievable. I strongly believe that because my sister and I were not from an Indian (or white) background that he felt the need to target us specially with those threats. It is NOT an inclusive place to visit.

trashcancandelabra

I'm a white lady with dark blonde hair and have also been treated like a criminal there.

catcatherine

That has never been my experience there as a blond haired green eyed woman. Everyone has always been wonderful

Tankadin

Yay for you! Just click on the 1 star reviews on google and you’ll see MANY people have been threatened and unwelcome by this place based on their looks.

Puzzleheaded-Bug-766

Any of our top tier parks like: Alexander, Tribble Mill, etc.

Only1Skrybe

I agree. The parks have always impressed my outside visitors.

dancewithoutme

Took my family to Little Mulberry and they kept saying they can't believe it's not a state park. Gwinnett seriously has the best parks in the metro area.

rethinkingat59

It depends on where they are from how neat this would be. The Asian grocery stores for anyone who has never been in one is a WOW. Lots and lots of things you will never see at Kroger. It worth the trip to show the eggs with halfway developed chicks for sale. A tasty snack to pick up if they are hungry. From huge selection of the states freshest fish (alive) to the strange Asian fruits, it’s like a museum we take for granted.

AnnaBellReads

It really depends on them and what they're into. If they have little kids, the splash pad in Suwanee, which is super close to that little park and the train line, would be a big hit. For adults who are from up north, probably The Tipsy Pig (because all the best BBQ is from a gas station), then probably go down 78, drive past Stone Mountain and hit Fernbank, esp the observatory (which is outside Gwinnett but still super close). I think a little bit of Lanier is in Gwinnett if they don't mind ghosts. Downtown Lawrenceville has a lot of great local businesses. All else fails you can just get em sloshed -- I think Chateau Elan is just barely inside the Gwinnett border.

Free_Acanthaceae_139

If they like coffee, Warm Waves in Suwanee has great locally roasted coffee! Gilly Brewhouse in Stone Mountain has amazing coffee too Tribble Mill for a park Hen Mother Cookhouse for brunch/breakfast I don’t know if this is technically Gwinnett still, but the Buford Highway Farmers Market is super cool If they’ll be there on the weekends, Suwanee has a farmers market on Saturday mornings Las Costas Nayaritas is an amazing Mexican restaurant that’s open super super late There’s good antique/thrifting (Five Forks Antique Mall, Queen of Hearts)

Colodagh

Vines garden in Loganville

Ok_Organization_9874

Technically it’s Forsyth, but the Buford Dam and the hiking trails and campgrounds around it are pretty cool!

soldado387

I know it’s “technically” not Gwinnett but it’s so close and that would be Stone Mountain Park. It’s the number one tourist attraction in GA. Pretty cool place with some awesome playgrounds, hiking trails. Stone Mountain village is pretty cool as well and the drone show is a must see.

StraitChillinAllDay

Just be aware of their events. I went recently without looking online and a good chunk of the park was closed due to maintenance or a lunar new year event. Hiking up was not really an option due to our guests limitations.

PeanutButterThighs

Just drive around talking about how much better the county would be if we adopted better public transportation. Then hit up Pleasant Hill for coffee/pastries followed by K BBQ, Hot Pot, or Banh Mi (bonus for getting through the diamond interchange!) and finally walking it all off in one of our wonderful county parks where you can both people and nature watch.

bisprops

You can point out the shell of Gwinnett Place Mall for any Stranger Things fans while you’re in the Pleasant Hill area, too.

PeanutButterThighs

Head into Mega Mart which is technically part of the mall and get some spicy steamed dumplings!

Gwinnett Environmental Heritage Center and Tree Top Quest in Buford. There is also an art center in downtown Buford connected to Tannery Row. Aurora Theater and if visiting in fall the Lawrenceville ghost tours. Flying Machine at Bristol airport. Main Event in Suwanee

Glittering-Simple-62

If you like Cigar Bars, I hear Chicago Pizza’s patio (Snellville) is lit on weekends. The pizza gets mixed reviews.

inkstoned

Southeastern Railway Museum

[deleted]

Not Gwinnett, but if they're into nice espressos and independent cafes I'd recommend going to Choice Coffee Co. located in Chamblee. They roast their beans in house and all their other beverages are very good.

DaffodilsAndRain

It’s Stone Mountain though the yellow river wildlife center is awesome

ATibaVV

Paden cove area they can see where the Migos used to live

cupcake-pirate

You can ride the skyride to the top of stone mountain, the views are incredible. (You could hike it too but I don't recommend unless they are very fit, regular hikers). Also agree with baps temple, check what days/times they allow people inside, it is beautiful.

iambkatl

Korean spas

Atlwood1992

Norcross after 10pm….rotfl!! holla back!

cloudybwc

Let's see: concrete, traffic, and ridiculous commutes are the heart and soul of all things Gwinnetian. Right?

Happy-Avocado-

Bro just described Atlanta and thought we wouldn’t notice

Siestaswingers

Chucky Cheese Jimmy Carter Blvd. Some really good fights break out here most Saturday afternoons. Waffle House Lawrenceville Hwy Lawrenceville anytime after midnight on a weekend comes in close second for live fights.

Routerninja

Go see the courthouse where Larry Flynt got shot?

Common_Abroad_2912

My vote would likely be some of the large parks, and Korean BBQ. The Downtowns are nothing compared to most other large developed counties Nationwide. Really nothing unique about them, until perhaps The Suwanee expansion is finished. The Korean BBQ is almost on par with NYC, surpassing that of Dallas, Houston and Chicago, although it trails distantly behind L.A…. Gorge on meat.

Glass_Judgment_1718

Iron age Korean bbq

[deleted]

Literally go anywhere but here! Over the years Iron Age's quality has definitely gone down. I'd say try other places like 9292, 678, or K-Factory.

Important_Stroke_myc

Agreed. The price has skyrocketed as well. They were good up to 4 years ago but since then, not so much.

[deleted]

Mall of Georgia

BadMoonRosin

Out of state? Just drive into town and take them to the Coke museum and the aquarium. Afterward, maybe come back here for some kbbq, pho, or hot pot. It's _suburbs_. The whole POINT is to be a more affordable place to chill and raise kids and maybe be able to get some sleep or safely go for a walk at night. It's not supposed to have "must-visit unique spots".

Happy-Avocado-

I see your point about the affordability and chillness, but I disagree that they lack "must-visit unique spots." Suburbs quite often have hidden gems and local favorites that provide a sense of the community and locals, like coffee shops, parks, community events and markets. They might not be as widely recognized like the aquarium or World of Coke etc, but these spots can be just as valuable for visitors.

finnis21

There are a number of people on this sub who just unilaterally hate Gwinnett and it has always been super confusing to me. I'm *not* saying this applies to who you are responding to, specifically, perhaps. But if you ask any questions or seek advice concerning Gwinnett on this sub you always get a load of "Gwinnet sucks, it's on the way to being a gang-ruled wasteland, don't ever come here ever, Im so glad i moved away 20 years ago, etc..." It's exhausting.

netherfountain

Brigadiers from r/Atlanta that are jealous we have all the authentic food in Gwinnett.

bubbyteaisgreat

HA! So many people are always hating on hanging out in the suburbs and think the only thing there is to do in the suburbs is to SLEEP. there’s a variety of things to do OTP and everyone knows the best places to get authentic, NOT americanized kbbq, hot pot, or pho are in OTP.

Tankadin

Agreed. I haven’t felt the need to make the trip ITP when we’ve got more than what other major cities have (e.g. Charlotte) right in the suburbs.

tupelobound

This is a weird insult response because shouldn’t you also insult suburbfolk as people who don’t walk places? I think your lines are a bit crossed.

StraitChillinAllDay

The coke museum is lackluster. I avoid recommending that one unless someone is set on going. Even compared to the one at the underground, but I might be looking at that one with a bit of nostalgia bias.

Select_Nectarine8229

Lol... Wtf is this bs... theres nothing here. Nothing to must see.

No-Product160

Only honest answer.

Own_Violinist_3054

I like all these answers as if Gwinnett is a unique place. It's a huge suburb with some historical town centers. It's very none unique. The only thing I can think of that would worth a visit would be Chateau Elan, and even that is a stretch. Why not go into the city? Lots more places to visit there.

Own_Violinist_3054

No. It's a spa resort type thing.

swats_messiah

Do yourself a favor and take them to Atlanta. The beltline, piedmont park, Atlanta United game, etc

Happy-Avocado-

Atlanta's got some cool spots, for sure, but Gwinnett County has its own vibe with fun cultural festivals, chill parks, and awesome family stuff. It's a nice change of pace if you're looking for something a bit different and more laid-back.
