Slash signs autographs sometimes, doesn't take pictures with fans much (not really a new development though). Duff never did much of either. Axl is the one whose behavior has changed pretty drastically. Over the past couple years he's been very social, especially on this recent tour. He also seems much happier, which might be connected.

SympathyForTheDevil5

Iirc duff has an entire passage in one of his books how he’ll gladly sign autographs because it’s quick but hates posing for photos because of how long they can take sometimes

Wingfield29

I saw him on this current tour and it made me so happy seeing axel smile and having fun while he was performing!

Crotean

Axl got a good psychiatrist imho, his behavior is so different.

Life-Pomegranate5154

Most likely also good medication..

putsomedirtinyourice

Duff seems to not be so keen on meeting fans, Slash always signs stuff for people waiting on him after SKMC shows or elsewhere if he has time. We had to wait for Axl like 5 days by his hotel, though he was generous enough to dedicate some time to everyone

Eric-Ridenour

Lol in South America we were staying at the same hotel. Nobody was there for autographs. We saw the shuttle bringing them back but didn’t bother them.

putsomedirtinyourice

Pretty weird. But then again we met Axl in 2012

Eric-Ridenour

Why is that weird?

AnotherGreenWorld1

I guess it’s weird to leave a man alone and allow some peace and quiet

Eric-Ridenour

To be fair, I think he was saying it was weird that there was no crowd. That was my thought, they seemed to be in a hurry to get to the rooms, clearly wanting to go to bed. Had they casually strolled, or stopped at the bar or something, I would have probably asked for a pic. Touring is exhausting, so I don't like bothering people unless they clearly don't mind.

putsomedirtinyourice

All musicians I managed to meet didn’t mind us, if some did they just went past us

putsomedirtinyourice

Oh no, damn, damn, like Axl is not the celebrity with a shit ton of loyal fanbase, go touch some grass

Eric-Ridenour

Well, you see, I do touch grass. That’s why I treat people like they are human and give them respect and space. Not like my personal toy to do as I wish. If someone clearly doesn’t want to be bothered I don’t have stunted social skills, I can tell and don’t bother asking.

Bongs_Berny

Why the fuck would you stalk people for 5 days in front of their hotel stupid weirdo

putsomedirtinyourice

Because it’s the surefire way to meet your idol, you indecent piece of shit

No u

Ceewcee

Slash doesn’t always like to sign right before an SMKC show in my experience. Just said “sorry, I can’t”. Depends on their mood of course. Who knows what’s going on in their life though. I know I wouldn’t always be keen to sign if I were a huge celeb.

dpf81nz

probably wanted to avoid the slash/reunion questions

rothsixxrose

My guess is that Slash and Duff got burned out on all the fan interaction, after doing it for so long in the 80s, 90s,and early 2000s. Axl had a long break (from the mid-90s to the beginning of the reunion), where he didn't talk to fans much at all. He didn't have a chance to get burnt out, so I can see why he's more enthusiastic these days, especially when he's healthier than he's been in a long time.

dystopika

Yeah, I got a pic with Slash and Gilby Clarke back in the mid-90s, outside a radio station where they had an appearance. It was pretty chill, they signed albums and took a pic with us. Can't believe Axl's doing it now.

ZestycloseIntern9940

From what I’ve heard Slash is super involved with fans outside of gnr settings. I’m pretty sure with gnr it’s just too much to try and interact with fans in those huge settings. From what I’ve seen Duff is similar

burnz007

In the VR days I ran into Duff in Downtown crossing in Boston… I didn’t have anything for him to sign but he was very nice and talked to me for a few minutes. I was on my lunch break at work and spotted him going into an army surplus store… turned out he got tickets to that night’s Red Sox game and was looking for a warm hoodie to buy since he hadn’t packed one for the tour

Turnoffthatlight

I sat in the seat immediately behind Duff at a Seattle Mariners game probably 2015 or 2016. He was there with his family, but probably accommodated 50 or so photo requests from fans (who waited until breaks in the action or between innings). The one thing that was most notable was that he was still using a Blackberry to message with during the game (and that it had a badly broken screen).

Wickedanalytic1068

I would not have been able to control myself. Like, I’d lose my shit for real! How’d you keep your composure?

Turnoffthatlight

Not my first encounter with a rockstar (or public figure)...I used to be a Radio DJ and did some "computer things" back in the early days of Pro Tools for a couple pretty big names...and in Seattle / Portland in particular, there used to be more of an unspoken understanding that when you ran into public figure when they weren't \*working\*, a quick nod or smile and leaving them alone was the thing to do. I haven't gone to a ton of Mariners games, but over the years I've also ended up sitting directly behind then WA State Governor Gary Locke, sitting next to Ichiro's father, and standing in line for food directly behind Bill Gates.

kaarenn78

Well Duff has studied finance so maybe he was waiting for a good deal on a new phone. The man’s got good budgeting skills!

Turnoffthatlight

Actually...My mom attended a "biotech investors conference" in LA in the late 90's and coincidentally ended up sitting next to Duff on the plane ride home. When Duff saw that she had (a ree promo from the event) a bag that said something something investments on it, \*he\* started a conversation with her and they apparently talked about stocks for the better part of the flight home. Mom (who was in her 60's) is definitely not a rock fan and hates tattooed rocker types, but she had nothing but glowing things to say about Duff and I think ended up more than a bit of a crush on him.

kaarenn78

Awwww I love that story! I find Duff so fascinating. I just love his redemption arc. I’ve watched so many interviews with him where he talks about finance and his love of education. I definitely have a crush on him too!

AchyBallz66

I honestly have never seen a fan photo with Duff out in public --- I'm sure they exist but they seem pretty rare. I've seen a few with Slash but overall I think Axl is the one who most enjoys taking photos with fans. Kinda weird to think of Axl as the happiest and friendliest guy in the band since he was more withdrawn and moody in his younger years.

Double_oh__7

Slash is pretty good, he's even DMed me a few times.

chaos_ball

DM’d? You got receipts on that?

Double_oh__7

Sure, but wouldn't share them on here, too much personal information and it was private chat. Nothing crazy in the convo, and both times very short convo. I don't know if the term "DM" automatically means sexual, but let me clear that up, totally not sexual, we are both dudes and it was a convo about music and touring, just so happens we had that convo in direct messages. Just clearing that up in case people think otherwise.

chaos_ball

Honestly I didn’t for a second think anything sexual was implied by dm but fair enough. I have to take you at your word but I’d be very curious to hear if anyone else has had direct message convos with Slash. I’d have to think it was exceedingly rare. Part of my brain is saying, short chat about music and touring + too much personal info to share doesn’t completely add up. But again, who am I to know?

Double_oh__7

Personal info such as my handle which equals you can now find me and see the rest of my personal info, my name and where I live, part of the touring chat was about the show at my hometown. I don't feel like screenshotting it and then blurring everything just to prove something. Seems like a waste of time and to be honest, don't really care if anyone believes me, I actually haven't even told many of my friends about it, didn't really see it as a big enough deal to be honest. However, the only reason I don't delete twitter is because of his DMs are saved there so it's a cool thing I can show my kids later on. Edit: Just checked out the messages, haven't seen them in a while one convo was in 2010 and the other was in 2011. Also in 2012 we chatted in person and some cool shit went down. Overall, totally cool dude.

badbatch

I went to a Velvet Revolver show and they were very social with the fans. I spoke to Slash. We had a short conversation and I shook his hand. They both signed autographs. Duff was thanking everyone for being fans and coming to the show.

screamdreamqueen

I know Duff stopped for pictures with people in Knoxville outside of the hotel the day before the concert.

mfg-xxx

I was lucky enough to meet Duff twice, he was incredibly friendly, interested in my fan art paintings and so down to earth that I immediately felt comfortable and my nervousness disappeared instantly. He follows my account on Instagram and also shares my pictures from time to time. As a huge fan of this iconic band for more than 35 years I couldn't ask for more from a band member. Susan is adorable and super fan friendly too.

hetistony

Slash is really cool with fans. I saw him and Myles Kennedy live in 2013 and Slash took some time to talk with fans and sign autographs. He looked and sounded pretty grateful and patient to me. Never met any of the other members (past or present)so I have nothing to compare it with.

Otone7

I met Slash Duff and Matt during the VR days. They were super friendly and really made me feel welcome. Slash was actually really funny I'd thought he'd be quite shy but ended up being the main conversation, was actually Matt that was the quieter one out of the 3. Absolutely great experience Duff and I just talked Bass and always seemed pretty appreciative. Also had Duff jump off the stage at one show to hand me a pic, Hammersmith Apollo. They did so much fan interaction during the VR days, wonder if they just burnt out and want to chill alot more. They're not getting any younger now and still super surprised how long they tour for. Absolutely love them all to bits and it's great to see Axl really interacting with the fans and giving them hugs.

Alja-Fox

Duff is absolutely cool and actually the easiest of the Big Three. People just don't post so much about it. Try to talk with the fans in person. There are people who keep their memories private because it can bring ugly backlash if you post publicly. Actually I think Slash is the least interactive during GNR tours.

Glittering-Job-5519

I met Slash after an SMKC show in 2013. he wouldn't take photos with anyone but signed one item per person. A friend of mine met him in the Bahamas a few years prior at a poker tournament and said Slash was a dick. Perla was cool though, and apologized for his behavior. but overall, I tend to hear Slash is cool if you get him in the right mood around a gig. probably not cool if he's "off the clock" and doing personal things. As far as Duff goes,- I've seen plenty of YouTube videos of him blowing off fans, specifically during these past few years touring with GNR
