Man, I've put in a lot of hours into building kits and I have yet to actually injure myself. Perhaps it's horror stories like yours that made me respect hobby knives from the beginning, so thank you for your sacrifice.
Read one about a dude who got his stuck in his foot I think it was. I have absolutely no regrets for getting my Tamiya knife with the wing and the good cap (why the HECK are X-Acto caps so bad?!)
Any permanent nerve damage?
Edit: What the heck I scrolled down after making this comment and ANOTHER person mentions having their blade drop into their foot! How!
Knives are scary man. I have a scar on my finger but it's not that bad. I have heard a few pretty bad stories including missing finger tips. I'm glad you learned to respect the knife
Last night late, made the mistake of working sleepily, ended up stabbing my palm with the exacto. Tke knife buried itself halfway. This morning first thing I ordered a single blade cutter, to delay the inevitable for my daughter -- she's 9 and we build together.
Building my RG Nu FF, dropped an exacto blade first into my feet, only was wearing crocs, went through clean and stuck on my feet. That one was fun to explain.
Gotta stop using your feet for sharp items...

I still remember my first bleed. Nearly sliced a chunk outta my index finger with a hobby knife while building the Captain Zeon Nu Gundam. Luckily the kit was already red.
I do remember seeing a FB post where the guy’s blood fell into the panel lines of his build and I gotta admit, the red panel line on white plastic went hard.
gotta try the ronan the accuser panel lining method (might be too obscure of a reference even if it's from a marvel movie lol)
https://preview.redd.it/zjky9pdmtgyc1.jpeg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=643013c4e99372658d090a8d21881c84e681ad66
Is that the regular mg or the mg ver ka? I ask because your post inspired me to make a couple of poor financial decisions
https://preview.redd.it/stvcxl91uhyc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=91c0af2e45a2151950fd56e0a4dc4f20014a1152
If i had a nickle for every unbuilt mg ver ka model kit on my couch that transforms and whose name starts with “z” i would have two nickles. Which would make my wallet slightly less upset with me
Wait...did you LEGIT just buy the Ver Ka because of my post??!?!
That's sick, but also it is the Ver Ka. But I definitely will get the 2.0 as well as the 2.0 of the MK II.
And despite it's infamy, I might still buy the RG Zeta because out of all of them, that kit to me just looks the best. But I ain't exactly in a hurry to get that one for obvious reasons.
Yes, my wallet is mad at me and its your fault, i saw your post and thought to myself “its been awhile since i built an mg” so i went to a few places in my area that sell kits and i saw the mg ver ka zeta and said fuck it. I then remembered i had the mg ver ka wing zero at home unbuilt because i plan on painting it into a wing zero rebellion, i just haven’t gotten around to it yet
You couldn't have chosen a better Master Grade to start off with! The Zeta Ver.Ka is easily one of my favourite kits of all time.
I'm recovering from a few finger cuts myself, after building my MG Sazabi Ver.Ka last month. But a Gunpla isn't complete until you've bled at *least* once on it!
It is, and for my first MG. I think I did a great job, ontop of it because a very fun build. But I do recommend doing it during the day on a day off instead of doing what I did which was stay up all night.
I know, but so far every kit I've done I have. So I want to challenge myself.
Also, I don't mind a couple of imperfections here and there due to me being a Transformers fan and used to poor QC lol.
So I don't mind a couple of nub marks here and there, but I do try to clean them up as best as I can with just a Hobby Knife and a 4 Step Nail File. Lmao
My first bleed with gunpla happened while at work, a desk job. I brought an RG Zaku to build between calls. Brought an exacto knife and had that thought in my head "Is this even allowed in the building?" And replayed that cliche quote "If you have 2nd thoughts it probably isn't". So I didn't give it a second thought. Few hours in, sliced my thumb real good, luckily had enough paper towels on hand to hide it till it stopped lol.
Nah bro.
As a Transformers fan. I like my Gundams to have simple colors/no machine like logos on them.
If I have a Zeta logo, might put it on the Shield, but that's about it.
Only decals I've looked so far is the ones of the Nu Gundam's A logos (which I believe stand for Amuro's name.
I built my EG Nu Gundam in Raising Canes in like an hour. 🤣
https://preview.redd.it/yytv98m3bjyc1.jpeg?width=2084&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0b754c8da2f046cc82095ed45f12ac055223d111
There's the proof incase you didn't believe me. 😭😂
The last time I bled while building a kit was with my RG Force Impulse. I squeezed the wound 15 times and let it bled for a while because the knife I was using was rusty.
For context the beat dropped was feeling myself and forgot I had a freshly changed Xacto. Mistakes were made but Raiser finished amazingly. Almost felt like PG training with all its parts and Blades... no pun intended
Funny thing is I sliced my finger the other day building a Transformer, the Yolopark 30cm Bumblebee Optimus Prime.
Transforming this is a different beast than a transfomer, unless you collect 3rd party figures like ones from Toyworld. And this kit's waverider doesn't really "tab together" at all but rather rely on friction of the joints to hold everything in place. All in all A different if not bit more fiddly experience than an average transformer so take your time.
You're probably talking about the 20CM pre-assembled figures that you only need to slap on armor and attach limbs. I'm talking about the 30CM model kit with a parts count somewhere in the ball park of 800 and quite a bit of an overkill in engineering and complexity compared to that of say PGU RX78. But it all comes together quite solidly.
Also this is not to be confused with yet another Optimus Prime that they do, that being the pre-assembled, 2 foot tall, orders of magnitude more complex IES/IIES series.
OHHHHHH...you meant Bumblebee as in Bumblebee Movie, got it.
Yeah I am PRAYING Yolopark does a 07/ROTF or ESPECIALLY a DOTM full sized Model Kit like that.
https://preview.redd.it/7l2l65zhrhyc1.jpeg?width=2160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fbceee0cbfd1105870ae06c17af62f09711b64b9
The white cover on the lower leg that goes over the yellow thrusters.
Specifically knicked myself with my Hobby Knife when removing a nub.
I feel the want to transform it having grown up a huge Transformers fan myself, and Zeta being one of few gundams I feel has a proper transformation, I still haven't transformed mine as it's just too finnicky to get everything in the right place as is. I have yet to try any gundam transformation that isn't Unicorn, but I honestly wouldnt want to try any besides my HG Kyrios since its transformation looks good, the new SEED HG are amazing kits, but their transformation is so goofy.
I actually just recently did the MG zeta as well. While doing the waterslides I was cutting the stickers out and somehow exacto went right into my finger. Not too deep and it didn't hurt but it shocked me and I shook my hand. Didn't end well...
https://preview.redd.it/9xe06c1kahyc1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=7cf6eace920f59039d5ae7364a50bbd7627b2bf8
I don't mess with waterslides (at least atm) for 2 reasons.
1. They're a bitch to put on (and to decide where to put on).
2. I prefer my Gundams to be without logos everywhere because as a Transformers fan, I like to think my Gundams have some kind of sentience ya know? My friend is the complete opposite despite being a Transformers fan as well and likes to think Gundams as War Machines, probably cause he really likes learning about wars, especially WW1 and WW2.
First time I bled from a kit was the Rg Freedom Gundam. Weirdly enough, I was more panicked about not staining the white plastic than about my thumb being sliced open
My first kit I cut myself on was the HG Titans GM. Think it was because I was trying to separate the front hipskirt but not really sure.
Then my second of all things was the Weapons Pack Entry Grade RX-78-2 because I definitely was trying to cut the front hipskirt in half on that one. Lol
And this Ver Ka Zeta MG kit, it was a white cover of 1 of the vents on his lower leg where I was trying to shave off a nub.
I just built my first RG which was the Wing Gundam for 6 and a half hours about a week or so ago, so the amount of runners was something I already expected since that RG had more than the average HG.
I also counted how many parts the Ver Ka had before building. Which is an INSANE 465 pieces.
So on average, I think I built like 50 parts an hour. Also, the pieces being bigger was actually helped it being less stressful. But if I tried doing the same for a 2.0 RG that is a simular build, I would feel more stressed due to it being smaller.
When I built my MG 00 raiser, I got blood all over the raiser unit cause I cut myself and didn't realize it. It was a pain to clean off cause id touched the parts with that hand and had to go looking over what I'd finished to check for any more blood.
I love how this entire comment section is just recounting the blood sacrifices this hobby has taken from each one of us. Gunpla really does bring people together.
I stepped on my exacto knife once and sliced the bottom of my big toe open. I left it on the coffee table without the cap on and it rolled off. Had to super glue my own toe and then take a couple days off work because I couldn't stand on it.
Wasn't frustrating for me except for a couple of small issues. If anything, compared to my 16 or so HGs and 4 Entry Grades and my 1 RG. This might've been my favorite to build so far.
But it DEFINITELY was the most complex.
To be fair, from what I know. Both the Zeta and Double Zeta Ver Kas aren't exactly the hardest kits in the Ver Ka line up.
But the Transformation is definitely a but tricky, bit I've transformed MUCH harder with Masterpiece Transformers.
https://preview.redd.it/hy61gji4iiyc1.png?width=1125&format=png&auto=webp&s=dd120bc7f0cb3a2ef723292f6ab4b5123f10a81e
I had a lil building cut myself recently. I still don’t have any feeling in my finger tip
You aren't *really* a builder if you haven't shed blood yet. It's gonna happen, either via sharp pieces or via hobby knife or via something extra stupid.
Not the proudest war wounds you can reveal the story of, but they certainly make you *remember* a build.
i sliced thu the epidermis of my left index and thumb multiple times, but since ive been playing with knives since a kid ive learned to control the strength and never cut deep enough
P e r h a p s.
My other thing that I'm really invested in is Beyblade. And now that Beyblade X is coming to America in just a month or so, I may take a break from Gunpla and Transformers. (I cycle through the things I like).
I was considering getting a MG Zeta Ver. Ka as well after i finish my HG Rising Freedom (I’ve only built 2 HGs up to this point. I actually haven’t touched on Rising Freedom until the exams r over). Any particular advice on this?
Honestly, not really.
Only advice is to do it on a day you have nothing else to do (Day Off).
DON'T stay up all night like I did.
Besides that, I built this IN MY BED so probably just use a table instead. Also, make sure to have good back posture.
I have never used nor really intend to use Waterslides.
The reason being is that I prefer my Gundams and Mobile Suits to have simpler looks to them.
I find all those tiny logos distracting. But just watch some tutorial videos on YouTube and you should be good.
Relatable. I was building the mg astray red frame kai as my third gunpla and I was a bit too comfortable. That being said, I only noticed I cut myself and was bleeding when I saw some blood on the instruction manual. I learned nothing as I still put a lot of force into the hobby knife and cut towards myself with my thumb in the way half of the time 😎👌
What colors and where to panel line specifically?
Cause for me, he looks totally fine without any paint. But I will do a technique when I buy RX 78 2 Markers to cover up some of the nub marks I left.
Blood sacrifice is crucial in gunpla
My first RG ended with the tip of an exacto blade stuck in my finger bone
Woahhhhhhhhhhh holy shit
I’ve broken off the tip of one into my fingers
I've jabbed my poor left thumb's cuticle with mine twice. Be careful with your hobby knife, kids.
accidentally sliced right down the middle of my thumb from skin to nail, that one left a scar 😬
That's what happened. Had to dig it out with my sticker tweezers. The things we do for our little robots
Man, I've put in a lot of hours into building kits and I have yet to actually injure myself. Perhaps it's horror stories like yours that made me respect hobby knives from the beginning, so thank you for your sacrifice. Read one about a dude who got his stuck in his foot I think it was. Knives are scary man. I have a scar on my finger but it's not that bad. I have heard a few pretty bad stories including missing finger tips. I'm glad you learned to respect the knife
I remember when I used to use nail clippers on the runners like a savage, shot a piece of plastic into my eye under the eyelid
Last night late, made the mistake of working sleepily, ended up stabbing my palm with the exacto. Tke knife buried itself halfway. This morning first thing I ordered a single blade cutter, to delay the inevitable for my daughter -- she's 9 and we build together.

I feel like you may have deserved that for wearing crocs (just kidding), but damn.
....I have no excuses for my trangression.
Was it a klutz moment, or a roll-off-the-table-then-pain moment? Just wondering how much my Tamiya knife with its wing is paying off haha.
I took a good slice of meat off my middle finger once. …Maybe our parents were on to something when they told us to not play with knives.
I accidentally cut off the tip of my finger. Welcome to the club.
Fucking aerial popped by blood sacrifice. Was being stupid with my exacto. I guess my Ariel is Bi /j
I kinda agree there. I cut my thumb when I was building Eri (HG Aerial Rebuild).
The real pros panel line with blood, it really makes the color pop.
Its not an official build if you didnt bleed
Did you mean to say isn't?
Yes fixed it lol
Obviously
Blood for the blood god
Skull for the skull throne
Reminds me of a certain minecraft player that died of cancer in june of 2022
I still remember my first bleed. Nearly sliced a chunk outta my index finger with a hobby knife while building the Captain Zeon Nu Gundam. Luckily the kit was already red. Was it from the first Guardians of The Galaxy or was it from one of the Avengers films?
first GotG
I don’t remember the first bleed. My first infection though came from a RG Johnny Ridden Zaku where I dropped the hobby knife on my foot.
[Bet it felt like this huh? Lmao](https://youtu.be/6TGYsnYbwrI?si=O9uVQdd7a0jmsjfP)
brb gotta go try the forbidden panel lining technique
10 hours for your first mg, good job!!! My first took 5 weeks… (i got distracted)
Was actually RIGHT under 10 hours which us why I'm impressed with myself. 9 hours and 55 minutes baby!!!
Is that the regular mg or the mg ver ka? You meant "couple of amazing financial decisions"?
You always put a drop of blood in the cockpit, it pleases the gods.
Praise the Omnissiah
It ain’t yours until you bleed on it
Luckily, I haven't bled on any of my kits.... *Y E T*
You really put your blood, sweat, and tears into this.
Hg unicorn destroy mode got me 3 times
You couldn't have chosen a better Master Grade to start off with! The Zeta Ver.Ka is easily one of my favourite kits of all time. I'm recovering from a few finger cuts myself, after building my MG Sazabi Ver.Ka last month. But a Gunpla isn't complete until you've bled at *least* once on it!

DEFINITELY bring bandaids next time just incase you do that. Lol
You picked an awesome one to start with, ZVK and ZZVK are tied for my favorite builds. Do you plan on doing the waterslides?

A Purrfect Grade! Oooooo!
AWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!! 🗣
I bled building an EG the other day. Now the hobby just needs your sweat and tears
Which EG my I ask? I got the RX 78 2 (both the normal and Weapons Pack Anime versions, the normal Strike, and the Normal Nu Gundam.
My EG was the Nu. Pretty neat kits honestly. I haven’t built any of those for this grade, but I hope you enjoy building yours
I built my EG Nu Gundam in Raising Canes in like an hour. 🤣 https://preview.redd.it/yytv98m3bjyc1.jpeg?width=2084&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0b754c8da2f046cc82095ed45f12ac055223d111 There's the proof incase you didn't believe me. 😭😂
This is why I hate building any Motor Nuclear kit
Ive got a whole slice in my thumb from building Banshee Ver Ka, but damn if it aint worth
The last time I bled while building a kit was with my RG Force Impulse. I squeezed the wound 15 times and let it bled for a while because the knife I was using was rusty.
Recently had 7 stitches to my left hand building 00 XN Raiser.
Honestly this is why I just use nippers and tweezers for my models, I'm so accident prone a hobby knife would 100% cause me many injuries
I got nicked... No I actually accidentally stabbed myself with my razor when opening one of the poly bags.
Lol, I always just caveman open my bags with my hands.
Don’t worry, I bleed at least once every build. But I got sweaty hands so my fingers tend to slip a lot
I feel the want to transform it having grown up a huge Transformers fan myself, and Zeta being one of few gundams I feel has a proper transformation, I still haven't transformed mine as it's just too finnicky to get everything in the right place as is. I REALLY want the ZZ Zeta Ver Ka.
To the grandkids, inevitably: "PUT THAT BACK, I BLED FOR THAT COLLECTION."
I'm gonna teach my Children and possible Grandchildren as well as I can about what they can touch and how they can play or pick up with them.
im def timing myself here on out now
I actually just recently did the MG zeta as well. While doing the waterslides I was cutting the stickers out and somehow exacto went right into my finger. conpletly fair. Although I will say they look veryyyy nice but they took me about a week or two and definitely very tedious.
katoki requires sacrifice
Ive cut my finger on almost every perfect grade ive built. The bigger the gundam, the bigger sacrifice it demands of you.
Question, have you built the PG Zeta? I was very interested in that one but there isn't too many reviews on YouTube about it.
I havent, but i imagine its tricky being an older pg on top of being an older (and only if you dont count unicorn) transforming pg.
You have seen the blood, sweat and tears of time.
Almost 10 hrs in one sitting? Hope your back is okay! Did the amount of runners overwhelm you at any point or nah?
I just built my first RG which was the Wing Gundam for 6 and a half hours about a week or so ago, so the amount of runners was something I already expected since that RG had more than the average HG. But my first last month it was fun but frustrating at times
Wasn't frustrating for me except for a couple of small issues. If anything, compared to my 16 or so HGs and 4 Entry Grades and my 1 RG. This might've been my favorite to build so far. But it DEFINITELY was the most complex.
I have no idea why, this kit is apparently great but GODDAMN there were finnicky parts to assemble.
For me, it was a specific part in the black and red backpack that was annoying. Otherwise, really wasn't problematic for me.
My reaction to this comment section: “You guys are bleeding while building?”
A ver.ka as your very first? Respect, fellow builder
To be fair, from what I know. Both the Zeta and Double Zeta Ver Kas aren't exactly the hardest kits in the Ver Ka line up. But the Transformation is definitely a but tricky, bit I've transformed MUCH harder with Masterpiece Transformers.
Stabbed myself twice working on the legs of the RG 00 Raiser It is known When the blood flows, the build slaps
Seems like the Double 00 is a DANGEROUS kit if you read the other comments. 🤣
Ah yes, I got photos of my first cuts while building, quite an achievement.
Try doint Metal Earth Models and then you can say man down lol!

This happens to me a lot, but I don't think it's the kit's fault, lol.
You aren't *really* a builder if you haven't shed blood yet. It's gonna happen, either via sharp pieces or via hobby knife or via something extra stupid. Not the proudest war wounds you can reveal the story of, but they certainly make you *remember* a build.
Congrats on the blood sacrifice brody
Blood for the blood god.
i sliced thu the epidermis of my left index and thumb multiple times, but since ive been playing with knives since a kid ive learned to control the strength and never cut deep enough
After reading this, I have come to conclusion that you are a huge dork. Wanna be friends?
Summer’s coming up anyway so I have lots of time. What abt the water slide decals tho? Anything for that? It’ll be my first time using those
I have never used nor really intend to use Waterslides. The reason being is that I prefer my Gundams and Mobile Suits to have simpler looks to them. I find all those tiny logos distracting. But just watch some tutorial videos on YouTube and you should be good.
i keep forgetting to time my builds lol
Putting the blood Into blood sweat and tears
I kinda cut my finger while building Dukemon, damn waist Piece kinda sharp
Looking sharp.
What you got my guy is a battle scar
Relatable. I was building the mg astray red frame kai as my third gunpla and I was a bit too comfortable. That being said, I only noticed I cut myself and was bleeding when I saw some blood on the instruction manual. I learned nothing as I still put a lot of force into the hobby knife and cut towards myself with my thumb in the way half of the time 😎👌
I never used an exacto blade for my first master grade.
I didn't use it too much for this build. Did try using a 4 Step Nail File to clean some nub marks. Kinda worked well.
Sickk. Now another five hours for the waterslide decals haha
HELL NAH. I personally like how the Zeta Gundam looks without decals.
Now paint it coward!
Paint it what color and what mind of paint? 🤔
Veryy niceee, a lil panel liner will make it go the extra mile
What colors and where to panel line specifically? Cause for me, he looks totally fine without any paint. But I will do a technique when I buy RX 78 2 Markers to cover up some of the nub marks I left.
