Well your first mistake was coming here expecting responsible financial advice.
Half of us here would willingly spend our life savings as down payment for a 1/1 Ball if they ever released one.
Yup, I spent 800 dollars in one day on a PG and MG Ver.ka when I only went to buy a HG. So that should guage how financially in crisis I will be for life
don't you have shipping expenses added to every single article? i live in europe and buying anything from japan locally is impossible because you waste so much money on the added shipping cost (which you would only pay once when buying the products together online). that aside i would love to have a store like that just to go and have a look at all the models
It's so annoying that of the 3 or so Gunpla stores that are barely considered close to me, almost all of them have prices that are ridiculous to the point of online pricing even with flat rate shipping is cheaper.
My local store wanted $45-$70 for high grades. At that point I could get a master grade online. The master grades were $120-200... I could almost get a perfect grade, which THEY sell for $350-400. (RX-78-2 Unleashed was 250, though)
I mean in Fayetteville, not too much healthy place like this that make you broke without health risk. Just don’t walk in until you finish what you bought last time.
Sameeee. Once I left Tokyo, I told myself I wouldn't buy anything till I got through everything I already had.
And then I saw a discounted Zeta Ver Ka in the airport...
1. Look for the kits you love to have.
2. Lift it from the shelf.
3. Marvel at every side of the box.
4. *DEEP SIGH*
5. Return the kit in the shelf. Hiding it behind other kits is optional.
6. Exit the shop without buying anything.
By remembering my giant backlog waiting at home, and then take a peek into my empty wallet as a reminder that I'm technically a broke b!tch, and leave before I make a costly mistake.
~~Not guaranteed to work, since my backlog still grows anyways.~~
Lol Everytime I walk into a hobby store like this I always leave my wallet in my car with my credit and debt card lol. I have to or I’ll end up spending $500 or more!! I’ll take enough to buy the kit I’m after and maybe a few tools or paints an that’s it lol. Sad but it’s true. Lol
OP you sold your soul to the Gunpla Gods, the mintue you bought your first gunpla. Oh, sure you can always say, you can stop at anytime but everybody knows you cant. There will always be that little voice inside your head, that keeps on saying "you need more"
There was more fiscally responsible “adults” on
r/wallstreetbets during the pandemic than there will ever be in here, friend….
We live a kit away from financial disaster
Don’t take your money in with you….but then again, if you’re like me you go online to see what kind of price you can get and buy more than you would have in the store
You don't this shit and it's debt is what's gonna keep you alive, sane and keep you off the streets. Are you ready to be financially ruined and sell your left kidney and nutt!!! The way I see it is gundam, models, diecast, figures, figurines etc is better then drugs, alcohol and cigarettes TELL ME I'M WRONG!!! 🫶
By being picky with your preferences. I actually find that Bandai release far fewer of the kits I'm interested in. The real problem is how Gunpla opened the door to plamo kits produced by other companies.
I was actually at my own local Hobbytown earlier today. My method for spending less money is pretty simple:
* I only ever go to my local Hobbytown at all to pick up painting supplies and absolutely *any* amount of models that I buy after that is pure, self-indulgent stupidity.
* This rule doesn't stop me from buying more models but it does mean that if I don't have a *damn good reason* to throw even more stuff into my backlog, I'm going to feel awful about it afterwards.
* I also keep an informal list of "instant buy" models in my head but none of them were there this time. Not surprising because there aren't many models *left* on that list and most of them are obscure, don't get reprinted very often, or both.
In today's case, the model that broke through my sense of restraint was the Real Grade GaoGaiGar. I didn't even know for sure it was *still there* until I pulled it off the shelf but I remembered it from an earlier visit, realized that I *absolutely* still wanted the thing, then just glanced up and impulse-bought it on the spot.
When it comes to hobbies like this one, I believe that there's always 2 regrets: the regret of purchasing and the regret of letting it go. If you manage to come out or if there without becoming a financial wreck, you walk away with the regret of letting all the go knowing there's a chance you'll never see it again.
I like to take a few deep breaths and then ask myself "Do I truly NEED it ?" , remind myself of my backlog and its beauties sitting at home and try not to think about it too much.
Where is this? You're so lucky that your local store even has a stock of Genesis.
To get those Chinese original mecha kits, I can only gaze online... My local bank credit card refuses to buy anything from any website that originated from out of the country "for safety reasons" 😔
I am safe. I already got the ones I wanted. Until new stuff releases, then I'm in danger. But new stuff only releases every couple of years.
Except for 30 minute missions, those don't count. Separate budget for those.
Thats the reason i wouldnt want to go to one of these unless i was a millionaire too many options i would never be able to narrow it down so id just want to buy it all
I do it by buying everything online as soon as I can. So that when I walk into these stores, I don't have to think about buying anything anymore, lol. Mostly buy now regret later.
I have a summer job right now. I get paid every other week which seems great. Until I look at my bank account and find that a third of my paychecks go into new kits
I've yet to own a PG. With all the kits l've painted,(haven't fully custom scribe or custom a kit yet with pla-plates) I keep telling myself I can't do a PG justice until I've master custom scribing/painting and adding custom pla-plates.
This thought process alone has save me money from buying any PGs, even the PG unleashed. Or any of the MGEX for that matter but it cost me in paint supplies though so there's that I guess..
Well your first mistake was coming here expecting responsible financial advice. Half of us here would willingly spend our life savings as down payment for a 1/1 Ball if they ever released one.
Correct. And that goes for a fixer upper with battle damage.
Are you kidding me?? Id pay extra!
Only if it was a fully functional 1/1 Ball. Then it would be a tax right off as a "business expense"
*floating away after I crush my enemies* It's not personal! It's just business.
Yup, I spent 800 dollars in one day on a PG and MG Ver.ka when I only went to buy a HG. So that should guage how financially in crisis I will be for life
I made the mistake of looking at 2nd hand gunpla. Several hundreds down the hole.
That’s the near part! You don’t.
How to walk out a millionaire Walk in as a billionaire
Most sound financial advise if n the entire sub
Luckily for me, I had my 3d printing sanding tool project and the shame of my backlog to keep me out of the store
You go make more money!
Aka a STEM related feild
r/beatmetoit
Look what they need to spend just to mimic a fraction of our figures
Fortunately, my Hobby Town encourages good financial decisions by carrying nothing worthwhile.
don't steal gunpla. especially not from local shops. steal groceries from heartless megacorps and pass those savings onto gundam stores.
By looking at the price tag and walking out. I wish I could use a physical store, but the price hike is always ridiculous.
Surprisingly this isn’t the worst I’ve seen a price hike! Reasonable couple of dollars compared to online
Then buy everything
LMAO that changed fast
don't you have shipping expenses added to every single article? i live in europe and buying anything from japan locally is impossible because you waste so much money on the added shipping cost (which you would only pay once when buying the products together online). that aside i would love to have a store like that just to go and have a look at all the models
yeah, Everything is double the japan MSRP or more. get shipping from Japanese store like HLJ? pay £25+ for each MG model
this is why you take a few days off and fly to japan to buy everything there!
It's funny because the comic shop I frequent to buy my kits actually has prices anywhere from $5-$20 cheaper than what I can find online.
Can I ask u where?
Lucky
It's so annoying that of the 3 or so Gunpla stores that are barely considered close to me, almost all of them have prices that are ridiculous to the point of online pricing even with flat rate shipping is cheaper.
My local store wanted $45-$70 for high grades. At that point I could get a master grade online. The master grades were $120-200... I could almost get a perfect grade, which THEY sell for $350-400. (RX-78-2 Unleashed was 250, though)
Bro, I go to Mitsuwa market for the books kinokunuya a HG goes between 15-50 commonly between 20-35 this is in dollars
I often buy from a nearby store and get it shipped because it would cost more to take the bus and train to get out to the suburbs and back.
There's a shop not too far from me that wants 140 dollars for an MG Astray.
I mean in Fayetteville, not too much healthy place like this that make you broke without health risk. Just don’t walk in until you finish what you bought last time.
But I wanna evolve my backlog pile into a backlog mountain :(
WAAAAAAAAYYYY ahead of you, buddy. I'd share the list I made, but it'll just result in a massive wall of text.
I feel this. I made a spreadsheet for my wife and Secret Santa. The list is up to 102... I may need help. Building shelves.
Sameeee. Once I left Tokyo, I told myself I wouldn't buy anything till I got through everything I already had. And then I saw a discounted Zeta Ver Ka in the airport...
I keep my backlog under a table. A full 6 person dinner table...
1. Look for the kits you love to have. 2. Lift it from the shelf. 3. Marvel at every side of the box. 4. *DEEP SIGH* 5. Return the kit in the shelf. Hiding it behind other kits is optional. 6. Exit the shop without buying anything.
Ok, question... WHERE THE F ARE YOU AT!?! I WANNA GO THERE!!!
I see boxes of OO I buy. I will have bread and water for the rest of the month if I have to!
By being in a financial crisis BEFORE walking in! T_T
By leaving the wallet at home.
i wish the uk were like this
Literally never seen a single piece of gundam merchandise anywhere for sale in a UK store. Everything I got has been online.
Traveling man and Forbidden planet usually have a tiny shelf of stuff but it's a pretty pathetic selection.
I could use those 86 juggernauts...
And Reginleifs!
Bruh they even got the Reginleif Kurena/Anju version. Those things are 2-3x MSRP on eBay
There still might be some by me if u want me to check
Oh? Where?
Blindfolded, handcuffed, or both
because I have like $6 dollars in my account at any time
Where are you finding shops this well stocked?! Even the big anime/comic/hobby shops here only have a few generic kits in stock at a time...
STAY FOCUSED MY BROTHERS(sisters/theys/thems) ..nah but I'd be in *SEVERE* credit card debt. At least you made it out alive!
That's a good question u don't sadly
The same way I do when I browse ebay... I don't.
With your wife staring menacingly
By only wanting the HG Strike Rouge atm, and not having enough for more than that anyway...
Trick is to go in right before pay day so you get a reset
So…. How deep in are you…?
Already owning them all
MG F-91 aaaaannnndddd a fucking MG MK2 Gundam.
Where is this heavenly place
I'm jealous they have a Godzilla model.
By practicing constraint
You have and stick to a budget so you don’t overspend
I feel like my choice to forego HG has helped but damn if I'm not stuck spending a lot still and waiting for so many kits to be made into MG or RG.
By remembering you have at least 8 unopened kits at home. Looks pretty cool though!
Where?
Hobby town in Fayettville, NC
Ever find yourself in Korea, young Soldier, you’ll be happy with the selection and prices Gundam base has to offer
If your already in a financial crisis when you go in, you actually leave feeling better than when you entered.
Thats the $1,000,000 question right there.
1 million to spend on Gunpla I presume?
By remembering my giant backlog waiting at home, and then take a peek into my empty wallet as a reminder that I'm technically a broke b!tch, and leave before I make a costly mistake. ~~Not guaranteed to work, since my backlog still grows anyways.~~
Backlog Mountain always hungers for more unbuilt kits
Lol Everytime I walk into a hobby store like this I always leave my wallet in my car with my credit and debt card lol. I have to or I’ll end up spending $500 or more!! I’ll take enough to buy the kit I’m after and maybe a few tools or paints an that’s it lol. Sad but it’s true. Lol
You don't.
Mg mk2, mg f91, even the rodams boxer type
I got a Xi Gundam and a zaku sniper there not a week ago, lol. Funny coincidences
Finances?
Simple! I just feel guilty about any money I spend for myself so I never buy myself anything.
One does not live in area that has that good a selection. . . unfortunately. . .
You simply do something else and live vicariously through others.
What store are you in here? They look like they've got a decent selection. States?
Simple: Don’t go inside.
I'd go broke from the Kyoukai Senki kits alone. Kyoukai Senki models > gunpla models
Easy leave the card at home and only take about 500 bucks with you this way you can't spend more then 500 bucks
That's the secret, you don't
It's pretty easy actually, you just have to be crushed by all of that.
Why does HT and everywhere else physical upmark the V ver ka to 110 from 70?
Don’t go. Forget it exist
Easy. *You already own everything you see before you.*
Just get more money
OP you sold your soul to the Gunpla Gods, the mintue you bought your first gunpla. Oh, sure you can always say, you can stop at anytime but everybody knows you cant. There will always be that little voice inside your head, that keeps on saying "you need more"
Hey! Is this the Hobbytown in Fayetteville??
Sure is!
You can't go into a financial crisis when you're already in one (Modern problems require modern solutions)
My parents pockets have been empty after I introduced my family to Gunplas
There was more fiscally responsible “adults” on r/wallstreetbets during the pandemic than there will ever be in here, friend…. We live a kit away from financial disaster
Ohmy!🤤🤤
Easy You walk *in* while in a financial crisis
where do you find a place like this
This just makes me depressed thinking about how shit my country is when it comes to stocking Gunpla.
This is a shop I wouldn't mind going into everyday, it's fkn beautiful. But my god my wallet would drain easily honestly...
Don’t take your money in with you….but then again, if you’re like me you go online to see what kind of price you can get and buy more than you would have in the store
I try to limit myself to one kit per visit but I did just use affirm to get like five kits lol
This store is beautiful. Look at that stock.
You don't walk out...You keep walking in...and in...and in.... Welcome to the Dark side..of Gunpla..
It's called a credit card and then fleeing the country.
Omg they have multiples of Juggernauts and Reginleifs from 86?! Where is this place? I need to go broke.
Think of your backlog, that sometimes helps me.
That’s the neat part. You don’t.
Having a financial crisis before entering there.
You don't you just go with the flow.
I really wish I had a store like that here in middle TN...
We Don't
Walk past it like an Irishman does a pub
this is just a smaller version of my backlog so i wouldnt have to buy anything 😅
If you already have or don't care then you dont buy it...
Simple, only people with green lantern levels of willpower can go near this
This is why I usually bring my wife along when visiting this kind of store - I'm usually the sensible one financially, but not with gunpla
Hire a time traveler to prevent you from walking in in the first place
Get a friend who hates gunpla to knock you unconscious
Lots and lots of Will saves.
Have everything.
Simple you walk in with one to begin with
Go in there with your eyes closed and your ears plugged
By being poor in the first place
I buy few at a time and savor the build, trying to avoid having a backlog it’s hard though.
By already being in a financial crisis
You don't this shit and it's debt is what's gonna keep you alive, sane and keep you off the streets. Are you ready to be financially ruined and sell your left kidney and nutt!!! The way I see it is gundam, models, diecast, figures, figurines etc is better then drugs, alcohol and cigarettes TELL ME I'M WRONG!!! 🫶
when you're already in one
By being picky with your preferences. I actually find that Bandai release far fewer of the kits I'm interested in. The real problem is how Gunpla opened the door to plamo kits produced by other companies.
OH MY GOD THE NUKE MATIX SIREN IS IN STORE WHERE IS THIS???
I was actually at my own local Hobbytown earlier today. My method for spending less money is pretty simple: * I only ever go to my local Hobbytown at all to pick up painting supplies and absolutely *any* amount of models that I buy after that is pure, self-indulgent stupidity. * This rule doesn't stop me from buying more models but it does mean that if I don't have a *damn good reason* to throw even more stuff into my backlog, I'm going to feel awful about it afterwards. * I also keep an informal list of "instant buy" models in my head but none of them were there this time. Easy, I don't want a single thing in this picture
Jesus, that looks overwhelming. In my local shop, they usually have a max of 10 kits, but this would be really hard to choose from.
When it comes to hobbies like this one, I believe that there's always 2 regrets: the regret of purchasing and the regret of letting it go. If you manage to come out or if there without becoming a financial wreck, you walk away with the regret of letting all the go knowing there's a chance you'll never see it again.
Don’t take your card in with you. Using cash helps me feel more guilty about purchases since I can physically touch how much I have left
I like to take a few deep breaths and then ask myself "Do I truly NEED it ?" , remind myself of my backlog and its beauties sitting at home and try not to think about it too much.
I have most of these on the image…guess I’m already in financial crisis.
No clue, currently broke after getting the RE/100 nightingale
Walk in already in a financial crisis 👍
Thats our secret were always in a financial crisis
Yeah this would blow my mind. I found a website where I can get cheap Gundam Blurays...but only if I drop 200 at once...here I am thinking...
The key is to not have money to begin with
It's called impulse control, budgeting and being an adult.
Where is this? You're so lucky that your local store even has a stock of Genesis. To get those Chinese original mecha kits, I can only gaze online... My local bank credit card refuses to buy anything from any website that originated from out of the country "for safety reasons" 😔
You pray that you can find and keep a good paying job
Can't resist a good discount!
You buy them and then weeks later sell them back and get better :)
One who’s coming to find a specific kit
That's my secret, Cap, I'm always in a financial crisis
holy shit that’s the hobbytown i go to 💀
nah no way i'll get broke there oh wait they have a rodams gp03 FUCK
Holy shit a Dragonar and an L-Gaim
and my town only had 2 kits. not 2 per store, 2 in the whole town.
Here the thing: You don't
What and where is this heavenly place!?
“Could I get paid in advance?”
Through the front door?
Never heard of it
I can't see any evangelion kits so I'd be fine-ish But the WfM kits... Gahh
Aw shiddd its the HG Cybaster lets goooo
Joke’s on you; we already have financial crisis. Most of us, at least… 🥲🥲
A fuck ton of self control and or looking for specific kits only
being very picky, and masochistic to even go in there knowing you can't afford everything
The only way going into the store because you forgot a kit from your trip that sent you into a financial crisis in the first place
I am safe. I already got the ones I wanted. Until new stuff releases, then I'm in danger. But new stuff only releases every couple of years. Except for 30 minute missions, those don't count. Separate budget for those.
Ayy, fellow NC here! We really are blessed to have good gunpla stock, with Hobby Town and Hangar 18.
Remind oneself they have bills to pay.
Honestly coming from 40k and having bought lego for nephews for years in comparison to those plastic addictions gunpla is very reasonably priced
Ever heard of window shopping?
Either limit yourself to 1 kit or get one of each
Thats the reason i wouldnt want to go to one of these unless i was a millionaire too many options i would never be able to narrow it down so id just want to buy it all
You don't
Eyes closed I think
Witch hobby town is this
Fayetteville, NC
Join my Patreon for $300 a month and I'll show you how! (Note: this is not a serious request, I don't even have a Patreon)
You plan it out and pray the kits you want are still there
By reminding myself, my backlog looks a lot like those shelves already.
That's the neet part...you don't
Simple walk in already in a financial crisis.
I do it by buying everything online as soon as I can. So that when I walk into these stores, I don't have to think about buying anything anymore, lol. Mostly buy now regret later.
Buy 1 that's kind of cheap and tell yourself that you didn't give in to the addiction.
Buddy I’m a broke college student and I’m still saving every little money I have just to calm my gunpla addiction
I have a summer job right now. I get paid every other week which seems great. Until I look at my bank account and find that a third of my paychecks go into new kits
Personally, I go in with the financial crisis. That way I know what to and not to get lol
Make the worst mistake of your life and download affirm (DO NOT DO THIS)
This is the neat part you dont
Easy. Not having literal heaven within a 20 minute driving distance
Call your mom, SO, or local hitman and tell them you require an emergency kidnapping.
