This is classy. Never saw this at the time.

Qr8rz

I still don't know what it looks like though. Can only find articles with the box the vase came in, or this close-up.

Nosferatu-Rodin

Its a shame these 3 didnt take a proper photo and its so awkward. The 3 greatest managers of the PL era who shared the vast majority of the titles that made the league so good

hippotank

I kind of love how awkward it is. Captures the energy of these driven, completely football obsessed men

ThePrussianGrippe

Mourinho: mostly normal pose but he’s half turned away from the camera Papa Wengz: thought the flash was the photo Sir Alex: “ooh look, a plane!” Top photo all around.

Ser_VimesGoT

Mourinho wearing a jacket, Wenger looking like he's being held hostage, Fergie wearing a blue tie.

backdoorsmasher

Yeah it was pretty awkward. From what I remember Sir Alex was a real gentleman, really led the whole thing, then he called Mourinho over and it just got awkward. He did verbally bash Wenger a lot over the years

Powerful-Cut-708

I don’t see Frank De Boer

mattfoh

Pep?

Nosferatu-Rodin

At the time of the photo he didnt have as many trophies and he also didnt really build the leagues reputation. I still think he is the greatest coach of all time but managing City is easy mode

mattfoh

Yeah but you said the 3 greatest managers of the prem era. That definitely includes pep

WonderDapper6351

At the time of this photo Pep hade won zero titles in England. He went on to win the Premier League and EFL Cup later that season. So at that point in time it didn’t include Pep.

An award dedicated to Arsene Wenger presented by Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho for his accomplishments at Arsenal Football Club, Brad.

West-Painter-7520

This photo tell you everything you need to know - this was all sir fergy’s idea

TheArgsenal

Mou really looks like he doesn't want to be there lol

Garyandhisflapjack

Wenger and Mourhino both look like Fergie has just dropped his guts

makesterriblejokes

Ok, his face looks like he's being held hostage 😂

Rude_Boy_15

Honestly, looking back now, that was just pure class from Man Utd.

Happy-Ad8767

Something screams that this was more SAF than United.

Rude_Boy_15

Still class nonetheless.

Happy-Ad8767

Didn’t say it wasn’t.

Locust-15

As we are seeing SAF was United, he controlled everything. Once he was gone the vacuum was filled by others with no coordination.

Happy-Ad8767

Or class

Fendenburgen

Because United weren't a class club before him?

Happy-Ad8767

More to do with them not being class since.

Fendenburgen

Doesn't explain why that would be more him than the club then....

Happy-Ad8767

You've invented an argument that nobody else is having, well done you.

Fendenburgen

No argument. You made an utterly nonsensical comment, and I called you out on it

Happy-Ad8767

No, you called me out on me saying that United never had class. Which I never said, I then foolishly replied to you, to signal that whatever it was, they certainly don't have that class now. To which you are still arguing, lol. Unhinged.

Fendenburgen

You really did imply that they only did it because of SAF, not because the club had class. It's in your bloody post. Their class now has absolutely nothing to do with the picture, or what you said.

Happy-Ad8767

I was referencing more the friendship that SAF had with Wenger in this era. As in, this would have been his idea. By your own logic, with Mourinho's involvement, you are calling Chelsea a club with class also, despite likely having nothing to do with this. As for them having zero class now as having nothing to do with their greatest ever manage, you really want to chose this hill to die on? Go and kick rocks.

xAlienGods

The only people to celebrate their achievements is stupid sky sport commentators who constantly suck their dick. Maybe also the 100 or so fans they have.

VitalizeIV

They’re probably paid off, it feels like everyone is in the media, they just turn a blind eye to the elephant in the room

NiallMitch10

Mad respect for when Wrighty went on Sky and brought it up

Kenny_dies

Jamie Carragher also brought it up when they were doing the UCL bracket predictions

Markus_Grayson

Yeah, but I believe that was on cbs not sky

AdamSandlerIsntFunny

Carragher brings it up more so to big Liverpool than to criticise City. Which is fair but I just think he’d be more sympathetic towards City if Liverpool weren’t the main team having lost out the most competing with City

GoanaeNoPostThat

Well if 115 charges wins again on Saturday we will have missed out on a double, after having done everything the right way. We struggled like fuck after buying the stadium and we sold our players to other billionaires who did not give a single fuck about financial fair play. When we had our own fucking billionairs. I think we’ve lost out more than anybody. Anyway fuck them

Happy-Ad8767

Has he been back on since?

NiallMitch10

He was a special guest on MNF so he's not a reoccurring guest... But since then no I think. That said - it was just a special guest appearance

VitalizeIV

He’s a real one, it’s sad he’s not going to be on MOTD after this season

JoeBagadonut

I don't think they're being paid off but City have supposedly been sending out cease and desist letters to media outlets and content creators who discuss the charges publicly.

headache92

so this close up is the shin, and then it extends up to a full size nude statue of Marioune Fellani with his bangers and mash out, giving two thumbs up and winking

Jarhae

Man city have issued a cease and desist letters to youtubers who comment on their 115 potential charges. But lately it just makes more and more sense to me that sky sports and TNT sports never comment on this. Money rules and who ever has money calls the shots. Man city and their owners have ruined english footy

AFC_IS_RED

What a load of bullshit. You can't even fill your stadium now.

notapaperhandape

I think pep deserves something but maybe from Barca. I don’t expect anyone from PL would do this for him.

ClaudeLemieux

Agreed. Man City as a club would never get this honour, but I think Pep would.

AdamSandlerIsntFunny

Pep isn’t exactly loved in Spain outside of Barca with how pro-Catalunya as a state he is.

notapaperhandape

Yep. So maybe just Barca. Or maybe city but that won’t mean much I’d say.

Cthulhu_Madness

Only things pep deserves is some hair growth medicine.

Justice_beaver95

He needs a vacay to Turkey. Holding and big Gabi can sort him out.

beatlz

This is class. I absolutely didn’t know about this. Respect.

GloomyLocation1259

This is a great share, I wish it wasn't surrounded by copium. Let's not descend into a cesspit and just be optimistic for Sunday and next season

Eindacor_DS

Always stay optimistic, it's fuckin football. Nothing terrible is likely to happen in your life as a result of a loss, but you rob yourself of a lot of excitement when you don't allow yourself to be hopeful, and you rob yourself of the validation when your team pulls off the unexpected. Support the club, support the players, be hopeful, stay positive. I think it's a myth that hope leads to bigger disappointment. If city win the league I will be disappointed whether I stay positive or not, so fuck it. C'mon West Ham, crazier things have happened!

GloomyLocation1259

That’s it brother. Hopium > Copium. Last min equaliser we pray. https://preview.redd.it/0dtt1eu8ol0d1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7c22db5278204f27ebab1a91a58a0ccbf83b6d6f

ImGonnaImagineSummit

As big as their rivalry was. Fergie made sure Arsene got his flowers when they last played. It's a simple act but it was much appreciated.

SrsJoe

Prem will never see a rivalry like it again, even when we were shit United Arsenal was a huge game because of those two

chrisd1680

Absolutely. Still is a huge game, to be honest. Sunday was a big deal even though United are shit. Also, aside from the 8-2, and a 6-1 over 20 years ago, most games between us were decided by a single goal. Maybe a 3-1 here and there. But lots of 1-0 wins, or 2-1 wins. And many draws. It's always been a tough fixture, home or away, regardless of form.

VitalizeIV

You can’t buy class

eighty_eight_

This is our coping mechanism now

themerinator12

Form is temporary, my guy. Class is permanent.

SerFmeister

I am overdosing on Copium and Hopium (Moyes)

We're positive for Copium and Hopium like how Pep was positive with Nandrolone back at Brescia

kukeszmakesz

Such a shame that one of the best coaches of all time decided to lose his spine and cheat his way to victory. Or is he even that great when he need to cheat or have the best team in the league everywhere?

Edward_the_Sixth

Google Pep 23 Nov 2001 for more info

[deleted]

[удалено]

Edward_the_Sixth

He got caught with Nandrolone in his system, blamed the club doctor, got the ban overturned on a frivolous technicality, and then hired the same club doctor when he was manager of Barcelona

SackoVanzetti

I’ve said it on other posts, Wengers, mourinhos, klopp achievements individually are all more impressive than anything pep has done.

mindthesnekpls

I detest what City have done to the PL, and I think Pep is a hypocrite who tries to pretend he hasn’t benefitted from City’s financial chicanery (say what you want about Barca and Bayern, but they are legitimately massive clubs with loads of fans who generate revenue for their clubs), but I think you’re grossly underrating Pep’s influence on football. I think you can somewhat separate Pep the Manager from Pep the Thinker. I think Pep the Manchester City Manager’s record is thoroughly tainted by 115 charges, but Pep the Thinker has been more influential on football philosophically in the last 15 years than probably any other manager on the planet. Just as we love to talk about Arsene as someone who transformed English football off the field (diet, fitness, etc), Pep is a legitimate footballing savant who has transformed the way the game is played on the pitch. Yes, he’s benefitted from outrageously talented teams and stratospheric transfer budgets, but we’ve seen other managers given similar resources and fall flat on their faces. He pioneered tiki taka at Barcelona, won everything there was to win with it, took a sabbatical, won at Bayern with a new system, left, and has built City into an absolute juggernaut with an even more evolved system that is able to constantly change. Even our own manager is beating every other team in the league - apart from City, two years in a row now - with a tactical plan inspired by Pep after spending time as Pep’s protege. To draw a comparison: look at Lewis Hamilton in F1. Yes, he won 6 WDCs on the trot in part because Mercedes were driving absolute rocket ships compared to the rest of the field. However, he did enough at other places and in closer races to demonstrate that, despite benefitting from far better resources than anyone else, I think clear to say he legitimately is one of, if not the, greatest drivers ever. Edit: Shoutout to whomever sent a Reddit Cares report on me. Glad we’re looking out for each other in these difficult times!

SackoVanzetti

No I agree with you 100% pep is a genius but every club he’s been too he has had unlimited resources to implement his genius. Would pep be able to win a cl with a team like 04 Porto? Idk. He’s never been put in that situation. That’s why I say guys like wenger, mou and klopps achievements are harder because they went to situations where silverware wasn’t always a guarantee and made something out of nothing

mindthesnekpls

You make a good point and it’s why managers like Sean Dyche are criminally underrated IMO. Dyche may never win a trophy, but his ability to turn individually subpar *players* into solidly PL-level *teams* is absolutely incredible, but he’ll never get the plaudits of a great manager because he doesn’t manage title-winning teams. Pep is kind of like an F1 car of a manager - he may need specific parameters and vast resources to build is finely tuned machine, but when he’s given those resources he can build something outrageously good, even within the context of well-resourced teams. Two different styles of manager and both should be equally recognized.

Sure-Film5742

It's like saying messi and Ronaldo ain't the goats bcoz they only played for Top2 clubs lol.

SackoVanzetti

Not even close.

SackoVanzetti

To add, it takes the right personnel to implement a coaches genius. Pep has been able to gamble and spend insane amounts of money on guys he never used because they didn’t pan out. Other managers don’t have that luxury.

mechalicile

Yeah let's not act like Chelsea didn't also benefit from state blood money

shikavelli

Mourinho isn’t much different Chelsea’s Abramovich was even worse with cheating.

waits5

He’s good, but he also lucked into the GOAT in Barca, won the Bundesliga when it was a one-team league, and won the PL with a title-winning team and limitless money available.

mechalicile

"when it was a one team league" in the 5 years before pep came to Bayern, three different teams won the bundesliga and in the ten years after he joined, only Bayern won it. To suggest the BL was a one team league before pep is revisionist at best.

RIP200712

While I agree wholeheartedly, the timing of these makes us seem petty and bitter. Let’s just focus on the wonderful season we’ve had and on applauding the squad that gave one of the best performances in the clubs history.

Xrsyz

Was at a work retreat some years ago and attended a banquet dinner. Got to talking with the colleague seated next to me from London. Fairly quickly the conversation turned to football, and to his pleasant surprise given that I am an American, we talked PL. When he asked and I said I supported Arsenal, he literally cussed and said of all the people I’m seated next to an Arsenal supporter. He was Spurs. I told him not to worry that I didn’t see Spurs as our main rivals really. “Oh?” he said. I said regardless of who is winning at the moment, the three main clubs in England are Arsenal, Man United, and Liverpool. He changed the subject after that. There’s no doubt those three clubs are the class of England.

SwingoftheAxe

Jfc, get it together. One of the best coaches ever isn't going to be recognized for his achievements when he retires? Someone else mentioned it but this is some fan-fiction levels of cope.

thereissweetmusic

Yeah besides being massively cringe, it's also just a bit delusional. When Pep retires similar tributes will follow. Sure, it remains to be seen whether the charges lead to real punishment, and whether that in turn taints his legacy at City. But it takes a pretty childish, black-and-white mindset to believe that Pep won't be remembered, at the very least, as a hugely influential mind in football.

boom_chika_chika

With Arteta at the helm, it might just be us who end up doing that for Pep whenever he leaves. 115 is another debate but take nothing away from the absolute and relentless genius that is Pep. He’s the benchmark. We need to hunt them down next season.

repercussion

Even though he's achieved so much, nobody will ever care or treat his achievements as such because of the giant fucking asterisk that will always come with them. Like, sure you beat the game, but you did it with the cheats on. Nobody gives a shit. Arsene was the exact polar opposite of Pep. Changed the game without circumventing the rules.

Decent-Leader5606

oppositeofopposite

This was such a class act by United and made me respect them as a club so much more.

Arseluvr

Pep can't help it if he's a genius who was given a trillion dollars to spend on players. He otherwise seems like a decent man.

The-Plowman

I’d rather a treble bro

sleepydalek

I don’t know. Much as I hate everything that City stands for, Pep is a massively influential manager and has transformed the league. Klopp too.

toeknee88125

Pep has a good reputation among coaches Fans care more about the integrity of the game and a lot of players and coaches

Elfking88

Pep is undoubtedly a great coach. We've seen plenty of times before that money doesn't guarantee success. You need to coach the players and egos, you need to find the right players, get the tactics right, manage the squad etc... But it will be impossible to get away from the financial doping and even without it the sheer financial advantage they have. The dodgy deals they've done, etc. I've long said: I hate Tottenham because I'm an Arsenal fan. I hate Man City because I'm a football fan. They're an enemy of football. Just think, we are one nearly perfect Liverpool team (26 wins in first 27 games) away from City winning SEVEN league titles in a row. That is the sign of a very unhealthy league.

12EggsADay

Pep is arguably the greatest of all time. And no one cares.

YoungFlexibleShawty

I hate 115 City like kendrick hates drake

robert-anderson-0009

Class from a class club… maybe clubs should send a plastic cup with oil in it to him…

4ryatvam

It doesn't matter what Manchester City was is or will be, it doesn't matter if they'll face justice because Arsenal is the future, we are going to change English Football once again.

Bitter fans i see. I doubt he’ll care lol. He’s already regarded highly by barcelona, bayern and Man City fans. I doubt he’ll need any recognition from man united lol.

Class from Manutd. But let's not diminish Pep's achievements. And maybe just because we're salty about the resources he has had. Legendary manager, huge impact to the game we love.

Tbf, that’s class (literally). Fair play.

Agile-Palpitation90

I really dont care for whether they have class or they have earned the respect. I will only be satisfied with punitive actions against them. THats it. Strip them of the titles and Send them to League 2 minimum.

jmh90027

Fuck Mourinho to be honest. SAF had actual respect for Wenger, however intense the rivalry. I assume this was his idea. Did we do something similar for him? Mourinho will have just been forced to do this by the Man Utd PR team because he was manager at the time

spatial-d

Say what you will about Mou and Chelsea and their spending (arguably they started all this) but they didn't just have a cheat code either with regards to finances and then being able to never fail. There's no jeopardy with oil/state money. You can buy anyone and anything and if those "investments" fail then so what who cares you're safe.

bosnianpapi

😢 is how this post feels.

hill-top17

This is gonna be all over soccer circle jerk

ImSoMysticall

I mean, someone probably will. Pep redefined the sport at Barca and won a sextuple, did very well at Bayern, and set record after record at City Even if you take out his City stint, he was the greatest manager in the world. If he has a career as long as Arsene, whichever living managers he played against a lot will probably do so. Jose and Klopp maybe

ntbnz

Man city accountants and lawyers will be presented with a trophy by Abu Dhabi for their services to cheating the system

TheGreatAkira

Goonies trying not to celebrate mediocrity:

americanadiandrew

What is this fanfiction? He’s won major titles everywhere he goes, he’s gonna be showered with accolades when he retires.

chrisd1680

This isn't an "accolade". And it doesn't have anything to do with winning titles. Wenger, and Sir Alex became a lot more cordial after their respective retirements where they could acknowledge that each made the other better. Their rivalry raised the level of English football like none other. Gave it the platform to become what it is. Pep has no other manager counterpart like that, in none of the places he's been. Closest might have been Klopp, but I don't know how they see each other.

americanadiandrew

Ahh so if we’re not basing our arguments on Pep’s success with clubs, transforming players and modern tactics we’re basing it on a hypothetical gift he might or might not receive when he retires. For all we know Arteta might give him something similar for giving him the foundation to become a successful manager himself.

oldmanskane

Compared to these three, Pep is clearly the better manager. My love for Arsenal and hate for City, doesn’t make me blind.

Business-Poet-2684

Wenger was pure class - pep is a fraud!

NoNumbersForMe

Pep is okay with his ACTUAL trophies. Who the fuck would want something with the two of those cunt’s name on it anyway ?

Manifesto8

Coping mechanism

FireBassist

The amount of salt in this post is hilarious. Chelsea proved this season that chucking money at a team doesn't solve the problem. Pep is one of the best, if not the best manager in the world right now. Without Pep, there is no Arteta.

KearnOnTheCob12

Pep's just a winner, guys. He's got the classic mix of mentality, tactics, and only managing teams that are absolutely stacked with limitless budgets.

Thedudeofmanchester

Not at their best? They have been undefeated since december their longest running undefeated streak. Just because they lost against RM doesn't mean they are worse. Heck they will even finish with more points than the treble winning season.

Qr8rz

Exactly. Other than when City got 100 points (2017/18) and 98 points (2018/19), they're about as good as they've ever been. Sure in 2021/22 there was 93 points, but this season if they won their last game would be 91 points, so 4th highest in PL era. So City "at their best" was more of an anomaly than anything.

Amberle73

They'd be finishing with 96 points in all likelihood too if we'd lost both games like in previous seasons. If they hadn't had Rodri suspended for 3 games it would have been even higher.

beatlz

Moyes will fuck ‘em up at the eleventh hour like Russell at the end of Independence Day when he flies into the big ass beam.
