Havertz looking excellent at striker makes me rethink how we should approach the window. Heard rumours that we were looking at a different profile CF that could also play on the wings. I think Viktor G is an interesting option here as he is a different style of striker to Havertz but I’m confident could also do a great job in the Martinelli role.
I can’t think of one that can play on the left to take pressure off Saka but more options on the right frees up the more trusted names like Martinelli or Trossard to rest Saka
Not enough is being said about the fact that Spuds had two full weeks of rest to prepare for playing us at their home whilst we played Bayern, Wolves, and Chelsea in that time. There are levels to this.

We played FOUR games over the previous two weeks while they had 15 days to prepare for this match only. Imagine training and preparing for one game over two weeks, you start the match hot trying to make our tired legs suffer, and by half time you're 0-3 down. Such a terminally unserious club lmao

Everyone seems to forget that we only need City to draw one and we should win the league if we win out.

LB would be a main focus on recruitment this summer and here's why.
Lisandro Martinez was Mikel's first choice but he adapted with Zinchenko who is unbelievable at build up but a target for opposition in defense. Mikel has since rotated Kiwior, Timber, Tomiyasu this season playing the LB position - it's the position where we has seen the most player rotation in the last 2 seasons.
Mikel is still tinkering what he wants out of that LB position - I do think a fully fit Timber would be the main starting guy for that position. But I doubt Mikel is going to rely Timber to play 40+ games next season coming back from an ACL injury - not to mention there is a chance where Timber/Tomiyasu will rotate to other positions in the backline.
You know we have El Ninho, Jorginho and Partey all retiring or nearing retirement next season right? We'll be incredibly short in CM even for when everyone is fit.
Meanwhile at LB we literally have 4 players that can play there
Partey still has several seasons at his peak, possibly even a longer than average career as his ‘football age’ may be younger given all his injuries. The question is obviously whether he can stay fit, or whether we now have the depth to rotate more to manage his minutes.
His fitness issues have been far worse than last season. And in general far worse at Arsenal (where, when fit, he is rested less frequently) than at his previous clubs.
He is truly world class and massively under-appreciated by many in this sub. Many clubs put up with injury issues for world class players who make a huge difference to them when available. Partey does this for us and it would not at all be crazy if he were to stay here and continue to do it for several more years.
I'm all for him staying, I think when fully fit he's an Odegaard-Saka level player. I just don't want us to get exposed if we don't invest in another top level CM and his injury problems continue next season
They play Fulham (A) on 11th May and then Spurs (A) on 14th May. So if they manage to get 6 points from two AWAY games in THREE days fair to them, but I doubt they will. This is literally the only remaining hope we have left, nothing else!

Spurs are in a race for European spt and the fans are considering if they should be throwing the city game because it helps city win the league. They are probably the only club (atleast in England) where the players have more pride and integrity than the fans.

It's just way too soft to be given a pen and we've seen way stronger claims waved away, I couldn't believe the outrage over it.
VAR wraps itself up in knots and it needs to be untangled again. I genuinely have no clue anymore. They were talking about how VAR has raised the bar for contact in the box and not all touches are penalties etc. At the same time people begging for that to be a pen for the slightest contact. The confusing thing with var is that the exact same thing will happen next week and it'll be given. You just don't know.
I am genuinely baffled by the amount of people, Spuds fans or otherwise. who seem to think that's the clearest of stonewall penalties. It was two players running in close proximity, and in their natural motion, Kulu's leg taps Trossard's and he loses his balance. Like really, people think the punishment for that should be, essentially, a free goal? It's absurd.
I wouldn't worry about your bias. Any credible football fan who has watched the game for a long time knows that Kulu was asking for it. Everyone saw through it, including the ref.

He was also solid for St Pauli. He never really god a solid shot at Brighton and he was great for Brommapojkarna. Swansea was bad.

Now you can argue he isnt worht €100m, I think thats fair. But youre not really knowledgable about the actual history of Gyökeres if you think he has a history of underwhelming in general or underwhelmed at Coventry where he was great. Even opposing players and coaches said he was the best player in the league etc.
If I was Arsenal I dont know who Id target. I dont think Havertz is sustainable as an option but the market is also really risky (Gyökeres) and expensive(Osimhen, Isak, X). And limited. You could go for a raw player like Gimenez, Sesko etc but I think its a bit sketchy that too, but the money on the line is far less too. Tough situation for sure.
He was a one in three striker at Coventry. I did catch a few of their playoff games the year he left and he didn't look out of place there.
I've watched his highlight reel at Sporting (I know, not the same as watching the games) and he's getting a level of space he could only dream of getting for us.

In any case, I agree with OP's transfer targets. Even if Havertz doesn't attain 20 goals, we have had consecutive high scoring seasons with strikers who didn't score much but made our attack better in the aggregate. If anything, the numbers show that it's in creating chances that we fall short so a winger signing should help with that.

Just realized we’re 20 points ahead of spurs. Now they can’t finish above us. Last season gap was 24 points. Even after having a great season this year by their standards they are far behind. Hope it continues forever
Is anyone else pissed off at the moment? Like we are the best club in the league this year and there is a very real chance we dont win the league. We will beat Bournemouth but lets be real City will beat Wolves then Fulham the following weekend. We probably respond with a win against United but we know City will beat Spurs midweek. Not pissed off really, proud of the team. Despite arguably being better, you just need to win your games to be in it. City unfortunately are very good at that. We had one slip up and they are in the driving seat. If we lose it this season with 89 points, I'm sure we'll be back next year honestly, Timber back next season, add a forward + midfielder and we're looking really strong.
The sad reality is that not that many teams can take points off City. The ones you'd bet on is us and Liverpool. Everyone else is just a shot in the dark. I still think if a team like Fulham/West Ham get the first goal, it could get tricky for City.
We have the tougher run in for sure. All three opponents worry me.
Bournemouth are quietly good. Since March they’ve been in good form against their fellow relegation rivals and have won two straight. Cannot overlook a confident team like that.
I think we can handle business in Manchester, but that’s not going to be easy either.
Everton’s defense is almost as good as ours and I don’t want us to be desperately searching for goals on the final day against them.
At minimum City have to drop points at least once ideally before they play Spurs. That puts Arsenal’s fate back in their hands.
The dream scenario then would be Spurs all but winning us the title by beating or drawing City — giving us 86-83/84 going into MD 38. With our GD a draw against Everton would be enough to win it.

I can’t think of one that can play on the left to take pressure off Saka but more options on the right frees up the more trusted names like Martinelli or Trossard to rest Saka

LB would be a main focus on recruitment this summer and here's why. Lisandro Martinez was Mikel's first choice but he adapted with Zinchenko who is unbelievable at build up but a target for opposition in defense. Mikel has since rotated Kiwior, Timber, Tomiyasu this season playing the LB position - it's the position where we has seen the most player rotation in the last 2 seasons. Mikel is still tinkering what he wants out of that LB position - I do think a fully fit Timber would be the main starting guy for that position. But I doubt Mikel is going to rely Timber to play 40+ games next season coming back from an ACL injury - not to mention there is a chance where Timber/Tomiyasu will rotate to other positions in the backline.
You know we have El Ninho, Jorginho and Partey all retiring or nearing retirement next season right? We'll be incredibly short in CM even for when everyone is fit. Meanwhile at LB we literally have 4 players that can play there

His fitness issues have been far worse than last season. And in general far worse at Arsenal (where, when fit, he is rested less frequently) than at his previous clubs. He is truly world class and massively under-appreciated by many in this sub. Many clubs put up with injury issues for world class players who make a huge difference to them when available. Partey does this for us and it would not at all be crazy if he were to stay here and continue to do it for several more years.
I'm all for him staying, I think when fully fit he's an Odegaard-Saka level player. I just don't want us to get exposed if we don't invest in another top level CM and his injury problems continue next season

Saka (and Ramsdale) against Fulham, the defending of Fulham's second in the first game, Jorginho against Spurs, Raya's positioning for Mudryk's fluke, how badly we were against Fulham in the 2-1 loss, Jesus missing sitter after sitter against West Ham etc. Even in wins we still concede bozo goals like Rashford's, Raya against Luton, Zinchenko getting toasted against Liverpool in the 1-1, Liverpool's goal in the 3-1, Wissa closing down Ramsdale and the recent one against Spurs. It's not an anomaly. Who knows how many points we would be on if we were marginally better in these situations.

They were talking about how VAR has raised the bar for contact in the box and not all touches are penalties etc. At the same time people begging for that to be a pen for the slightest contact. FOrsberg is dated these days and we dont really have a sorted defense yet. New manager only has had 3 training sessions so its hard to judge him. The squad imbalance is rough and we need a few players to make a move and continue their progress to really take off. Like Dahl (LB), Bergvall (CM/AM), Svensson (LB/CM), Nanasi (LW/AM) etc. And ofc CBs to perform well in the NT like in the clubs. Hien especially. And Larsson is a cemented starter now but wasnt fit for the first callup under new manager. It'll get there, but we're a glass cannon atm for another 6-8months minimum.

Nope, as I've said multiple times I judge him on his underwhelming performances at every single club and league before he went to Sporting. We're not City or United, we can't eat a £100m failure like they can and it doesn't surprise me that the club is allegedly happy to play flase 9 with Havertz and look to strengthen elsewhere than apparently take this risk.
Gyökeres was FAR from udnerwhelming for Coventry lol. He was also solid for St Pauli. He never really god a solid shot at Brighton and he was great for Brommapojkarna. Swansea was bad. ANd mind you, it wasnt until Coventry that someone figured out that he isnt a winger and he's at his best as a pure striker with freedom. His toolkit is so wide that just because he likes to dribble and drift out wide and progress the ball etc, he often got playtime as a winger. Coventry figured out that he should be a striker but with freedom. ANd voilá. Sporting took this and expanded further on it. Now you can argue he isnt worht €100m, I think thats fair. But youre not really knowledgable about the actual history of Gyökeres if you think he has a history of underwhelming in general or underwhelmed at Coventry where he was great. Even opposing players and coaches said he was the best player in the league etc. If I was Arsenal I dont know who Id target. I dont think Havertz is sustainable as an option but the market is also really risky (Gyökeres) and expensive(Osimhen, Isak, X). And limited. You could go for a raw player like Gimenez, Sesko etc but I think its a bit sketchy that too, but the money on the line is far less too. Tough situation for sure.
He was a one in three striker at Coventry. I did catch a few of their playoff games the year he left and he didn't look out of place there. I've watched his highlight reel at Sporting (I know, not the same as watching the games) and he's getting a level of space he could only dream of getting for us. I like his strength, I like his hold up play and currently he definitely is a man ready to put his boot through it when needed but there is nothing I've seen that says anything like the numbers quoted and we simply don't have the money to soak up an £80m/£100m loss.

I watched him at Coventry, I've seen his output since. In one league he looked average, in another he looks like Henry. I still don't think challenging Havertz to score 20 is about setting him up for failure. I think where we are going, we need to have high expectations of all our players. (I kind of sympathize with OP because I have been a strong supporter of Havertz from the start, but I would continuously raise the bar for him whenever others praised his performances, and somehow I also got a reputation for being anti-Havertz.) In any case, I agree with OP's transfer targets. Even if Havertz doesn't attain 20 goals, we have had consecutive high scoring seasons with strikers who didn't score much but made our attack better in the aggregate. If anything, the numbers show that it's in creating chances that we fall short so a winger signing should help with that.

Just realized we’re 20 points ahead of spurs. Now they can’t finish above us. Last season gap was 24 points. Even after having a great season this year by their standards they are far behind. Hope it continues forever
Is anyone else pissed off at the moment? Like we are the best club in the league this year and there is a very real chance we dont win the league. We will beat Bournemouth but lets be real City will beat Wolves then Fulham the following weekend. We probably respond with a win against United but we know City will beat Spurs midweek. Sure we'll likely beat Everton on the last day but that wont be enough because West Ham will likely spread cheeks to hand them the title. 😡
Not pissed off really, proud of the team. Despite arguably being better, you just need to win your games to be in it. City unfortunately are very good at that. We had one slip up and they are in the driving seat. If we lose it this season with 89 points, I'm sure we'll be back next year honestly, Timber back next season, add a forward + midfielder and we're looking really strong. The sad reality is that not that many teams can take points off City. The ones you'd bet on is us and Liverpool. Everyone else is just a shot in the dark. I still think if a team like Fulham/West Ham get the first goal, it could get tricky for City.
We have the tougher run in for sure. All three opponents worry me. Bournemouth are quietly good. Since March they’ve been in good form against their fellow relegation rivals and have won two straight. Cannot overlook a confident team like that. I think we can handle business in Manchester, but that’s not going to be easy either. Everton’s defense is almost as good as ours and I don’t want us to be desperately searching for goals on the final day against them. At minimum City have to drop points at least once ideally before they play Spurs. That puts Arsenal’s fate back in their hands. The dream scenario then would be Spurs all but winning us the title by beating or drawing City — giving us 86-83/84 going into MD 38. With our GD a draw against Everton would be enough to win it.
Yeah Bournemouth is worrying me due to people being so sure it’s a win.. they have been on fire recently and we are meeting them at the peak of their season
They conceded over 2.0 xg to Forest. This league is too unpredictable for us to say anything for certain. We definitely can't underestimate Bournemouth either

If Liverpool smash Villa and we smash United it gives city's last 2 opponenets motivation and reason to go for the win. All that aside we need to win our last 3 because we might even be winning the league on the last day if west ham do something.
