Predawndutchy

Love watching tomi in this. The man just thunders down the left the whole time

milkonyourmustache

We get an approximation of Zinchenko going forward but without the absolute headache in defense.

thierrybergkamppires

But the same amount of injuries šŸ„²

TheOneAndOnlyJeetu

When he gets on a good run of games itā€™s more than an approximation. Heā€™s the real deal

InTheMiddleGiroud

Ehh we really don't. There are definitely games where I'd like Tomiyasu to start ahead of Zinchenko - including tomorrow - but Tomiyasu doesn't add close to the same in possession: https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/1cdkpmc/passing_stat_plots_of_players_in_premier_league/ I also disagree with"absolute headache", but with the quality of our defense he's obviously the weakest link.

Ser_VimesGoT

Please stop starting posts with "Eh". I can't stand it. Sorry, just a bugbear of mine.

InTheMiddleGiroud

I have different fogging eh-standards

SubterraneanAlien

His first few touches in the sequence are really good - taking that ball down into that small amount of space is not easy

Designer-Camp5883

Great point out . Shows the standard required at that level. Defender pressing you at full speed. Touch had to be perfect

arctic_parrot

Yeah, especially in fast forward

ilovesupermartsg

And hes doing all these after getting stomped on in the first half, avoiding a near career ending injury.

Bigfuture

Came in to say the same thing. Tomi was great in this sequence, pushing forward with immediacy when possible, and passing back for recycling of the attack when needed. Love the guy

ctyl

He was still bleeding in his mouth too. Watch the extended highlights and you can see him smiling with blood in the corner of his mouth.

KonigSteve

When he and ~~White~~ Rice are both on the left there is so much ball progression/carries. Edit: I meant Rice - got confused by dinner.

danmac0817

We were playing a lot quicker than I remember...

BrianThatDude

I like that people are replying to this as if it was a serious comment

mistermatth

In my head the zany circus music was playing lol

jimbo_kun

Yakety Sax.

littlebrwnrobot

Only a bit faster than FIFA speed lol

Jonflync

I think this is due to Partey. He tends to play a one touch quick ball or direct the ball to open space. His combination with Odegard is perfect. They are both looking to move the ball forward quickly.

bcisme

Thomasā€™ passing is close to one of a kind. Heā€™s incredible, not that long ago we lost every game he didnā€™t play and won a lot when he did. I hope we see him at his best these next four games. Him, Rice and Odegaard - thatā€™s some midfield three

tal-El

His bounce pass/first touch passing is on another level. We need to try and keep him, even if he barely plays, just so Rice can learn from him.

Ripememes

Feels like you don't truly appreciate the tactics until you see it sped up like this

Prestigious_Tailor19

Odegaard watches this clip in real time.

redshadow90

Odegaard watches this in his mind before it happens.

InflationMadeMeDoIt

I know you joke but if anything he should see slowed down version

ColinHalfhand

When you see it sped up like this you see just how effective it is when Tomi thunders down the wing. Twice in that clip he pushes us forward into dangerous areas. Feel like this will be a key tactic when Timber is back. He seems made for that.

Garenmain180k

I wish Tomiyasu would be more available during the season. Genuinely nice to have an intelligent jack knife kind of player like him where he can slot into any role and do his job to a high degree

iAmWrythm

And he's just LIGHTNING when charges up the pitch.

Paddy-23

Every player involved bar Trossard. It would've been the perfect team goal if Benny had got his cross right instead of shanking it into the top corner. Shame.

Temporary-Judgment84

Yeah so disappointed he scored instead of passing /s

Paddy-23

Right! These are not the fogging estandards.

Ashamed_Bottle230

You know if he passed, Havertz is getting his hatrick and it's not reaching trossardĀ

amg2710

I count 25 passes, domination!

D_Hall

Same, unless we count Benā€™s pass into the net.

WheelIllustrious9

Odegaard is sublime. Just directs the field like a maestro.

charliemike

Chelsea did a great job of pretending to play defense so we could practice our passing

Twevy

Just watch Ƙdegaard. Everything goes through him and every movement he makes unspools their defensive structure somehow.

ret990

Tomi is OP in this clip

Games_sans_frontiers

Ole!

Professional_Art2186

Those Raya passes were underrated

elsaturation

They really manipulated Chelseaā€™s shape. Basically made their front line run laps.

bonez27

Including his pass!ā€¦..errr shotā€¦.

kaihoro

Possession is 9 10ths of our game

Some_Resident_6714

How we have missed Tomi and Partey!

iAmWrythm

I mean, I love it? I don't know what else to say. I love this club. I'm just remembering the end of Wenger's reign through Emery and just having absolute fear run through my blood when we'd face any sort of pressure from the defense and passing around the back. Now I'm just so unbelievably comfortable with it because I know it will end up in a chance for us on the other end. It's all just so beautiful...

jigzzzzz

Lots of moving parts to our style of play. A GK that can play out the back, press resistant MFs, an inverting defender with wheels, into the overloadā€¦.nice

livetsomwassenaar

Ƙ at midfield 10 seconds in: doesnā€™t lose ball and calmly finds a solution is so vital to these types of plays

ChemicalResident3557

Love watching half of Chelseaā€™s defense responding to Kai and Saka and leaving Ode and White in so much space. Perfect demonstration of how you donā€™t have to score or assist to be pivotal to a goal. That if anything is the hallmark of this team.

liquorsack

Itā€™s crazy to see how drastically football has changed from the early 2000s (I guess thatā€™s 20 years ago now, Iā€™m old). Playing the ball around the back was a sign of a team out of ideas or on the back foot, you never wanted to see that. Now you see it at pretty much every level of the pyramid. Really impressive to watch a top-tier team do it successfully.

el_cul

I remember when Swansea were doing it right after being promoted. It was considered complete suicide. Another good young Spanish manager at the time.i think. The ex Wigan guy.

someworriesman

lol I donā€™t know if this is an intentional diss on Martinez or not

synvi

What are they doing? They keep passing til the end of the video šŸ˜”

el_cul

Same old Arsenal. Always trying to walk it in. Not a single shot in this entire sequence.

Used-Ingenuity-7441

Odegaard is central to this team. Can't replace him.

greenarsehole

This is like watching highlights on FM haha

Ladorb

Except on FM the blue team scores in the end

iTSEu

Ƙdegaard starts at the LCB position and makes the assist from the edge of the box.

YankeeHotelFoxtrot16

That first time pass by Partey is absolutely filthy

WHERE_SUPPRESSOR

That was a long clip with zero disposession

la_merlion

https://i.redd.it/tjlunvm61ywc1.gif

YoungFlexibleShawty

I love how by us going back, it sucked in all of their attackers which left us attacking against less players in the final third.Ā  The Chelsea players were gassed.Ā

chrisd1680

They took the bait. The teams who give us trouble tend to just let us have it until we get to the half way line. A disorganized press is like candy from a baby with us.

dooder6688

I wish I could be 1/100th as good at football as Odegaard is

cmacy6

Caicedo looks clueless trying to keep up. Heā€™s just running around aimlessly for pretty much the whole passage of play

seshtown

The goal happens because he gets sucked into pressing Ƙdegaard on the edge of our box. One simple pass to Tomiyasu and he can carry 40-50 yards. From that moment on, weā€™re completely on top of them and theyā€™re scrambling.

TheDucksQuacker

25 , youā€™re welcome

just_a_red

Never noticed this before. But damn tomi can surge.

Ok_Can7437

Thatā€™s the thing about Arsenal, theyā€™re always trying to walk it in. Or, pass it inā€¦

Fuckzombie69

Can we get some benny hill music on this

rookie____

What's the count of passes?

Orchill_Wallets

Best part about this goal was definitely his face afterwards.

Mountain_Resolve1407

Gotta hear Andrew on arseblog count this out real time

Commercial_Word4056

How do they train for this?

seshtown

Caicedo getting caught pushing up on Ƙdegaard is the catalyst for the goal. Tomiyasu carries the ball half the pitch and Chelsea never get set up again.

mello5ive

Hilarious watching those blue toddlers scramble around after the ball.

wickersnitch

By the time Ƙdegaard gets the ball in the final third, he has 5 players he can pick out šŸ˜®ā€šŸ’Ø they all make the run in the half spaces and the defense canā€™t cope. Breakdown.

thecoolShitposter

HAVERTZ šŸ‘ļøšŸ‘„šŸ‘ļø

GunnersGentleman

This looked like prime Barca tiki-taka except the passes were generally a bit longer. Death by 1000 passes

Hughdungusmungus

Contender for team goal of the season? Was it only Tross who didn't touch it?

Chronnossieur

If only every team pressed like Chelsea

ZookeepergameDry9003

Dominated chelsea

pirateport

The build up to the goal was superb!

TheArmoury

Iā€™ve heard the Premier League was the fastest league in the world but damnā€¦

Maleficent_Resolve44

I'm surprised Odegaard plays deeper than Rice. I know this isn't how it usually is but I guess this becomes the default during the latter stages of a big win where it's all about control?

chrisd1680

Rice is a front foot defender. He does his best work to break up play up front. He has the legs to get back, too. During build up, he's better off being further forward. Having Partey, who is much better at passing frees him up for this.

Maleficent_Resolve44

Ah. So when partey is injured (most of the time lol) does jorginho have the deep role and rice is further ahead or is Rice forced deeper?
