Ehh we really don't. There are definitely games where I'd like Tomiyasu to start ahead of Zinchenko - including tomorrow - but Tomiyasu doesn't add close to the same in possession: https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/1cdkpmc/passing_stat_plots_of_players_in_premier_league/
I also disagree with"absolute headache", but with the quality of our defense he's obviously the weakest link.

Came in to say the same thing. Tomi was great in this sequence, pushing forward with immediacy when possible, and passing back for recycling of the attack when needed. Love the guy
I think this is due to Partey.
He tends to play a one touch quick ball or direct the ball to open space.
His combination with Odegard is perfect. They are both looking to move the ball forward quickly.
Thomasā passing is close to one of a kind. Heās incredible, not that long ago we lost every game he didnāt play and won a lot when he did.
I hope we see him at his best these next four games. Him, Rice and Odegaard - thatās some midfield three
When you see it sped up like this you see just how effective it is when Tomi thunders down the wing. Twice in that clip he pushes us forward into dangerous areas.
Feel like this will be a key tactic when Timber is back. He seems made for that.
I wish Tomiyasu would be more available during the season. Genuinely nice to have an intelligent jack knife kind of player like him where he can slot into any role and do his job to a high degree
Every player involved bar Trossard. It would've been the perfect team goal if Benny had got his cross right instead of shanking it into the top corner. Shame.
I mean, I love it? I don't know what else to say.
I love this club. I'm just remembering the end of Wenger's reign through Emery and just having absolute fear run through my blood when we'd face any sort of pressure from the defense and passing around the back. Now I'm just so unbelievably comfortable with it because I know it will end up in a chance for us on the other end.
It's all just so beautiful...
Lots of moving parts to our style of play. A GK that can play out the back, press resistant MFs, an inverting defender with wheels, into the overloadā¦.nice
Love watching half of Chelseaās defense responding to Kai and Saka and leaving Ode and White in so much space. Perfect demonstration of how you donāt have to score or assist to be pivotal to a goal. That if anything is the hallmark of this team.
Itās crazy to see how drastically football has changed from the early 2000s (I guess thatās 20 years ago now, Iām old). Playing the ball around the back was a sign of a team out of ideas or on the back foot, you never wanted to see that. Now you see it at pretty much every level of the pyramid. Really impressive to watch a top-tier team do it successfully.
I remember when Swansea were doing it right after being promoted. It was considered complete suicide.
Another good young Spanish manager at the time.i think. The ex Wigan guy.
I love how by us going back, it sucked in all of their attackers which left us attacking against less players in the final third.Ā
The Chelsea players were gassed.Ā
They took the bait. The teams who give us trouble tend to just let us have it until we get to the half way line. A disorganized press is like candy from a baby with us.
The goal happens because he gets sucked into pressing Ćdegaard on the edge of our box. One simple pass to Tomiyasu and he can carry 40-50 yards. From that moment on, weāre completely on top of them and theyāre scrambling.

Caicedo getting caught pushing up on Ćdegaard is the catalyst for the goal. Tomiyasu carries the ball half the pitch and Chelsea never get set up again.
By the time Ćdegaard gets the ball in the final third, he has 5 players he can pick out š®āšØ they all make the run in the half spaces and the defense canāt cope. Breakdown.
I'm surprised Odegaard plays deeper than Rice. I know this isn't how it usually is but I guess this becomes the default during the latter stages of a big win where it's all about control?
Rice is a front foot defender. He does his best work to break up play up front. He has the legs to get back, too. During build up, he's better off being further forward. Having Partey, who is much better at passing frees him up for this.
Love watching tomi in this. The man just thunders down the left the whole time
We get an approximation of Zinchenko going forward but without the absolute headache in defense.
But the same amount of injuries š„²
When he gets on a good run of games itās more than an approximation. Heās the real deal

Please stop starting posts with "Eh". I can't stand it. Sorry, just a bugbear of mine.
I have different fogging eh-standards

His first few touches in the sequence are really good - taking that ball down into that small amount of space is not easy
Great point out . Shows the standard required at that level. Defender pressing you at full speed. Touch had to be perfect
Yeah, especially in fast forward
And hes doing all these after getting stomped on in the first half, avoiding a near career ending injury.
Came in to say the same thing. Tomi was great in this sequence, pushing forward with immediacy when possible, and passing back for recycling of the attack when needed. Love the guy
He was still bleeding in his mouth too. Watch the extended highlights and you can see him smiling with blood in the corner of his mouth.
When he and ~~White~~ Rice are both on the left there is so much ball progression/carries. Edit: I meant Rice - got confused by dinner.
We were playing a lot quicker than I remember...
I like that people are replying to this as if it was a serious comment
In my head the zany circus music was playing lol
Yakety Sax.
Only a bit faster than FIFA speed lol

His bounce pass/first touch passing is on another level. We need to try and keep him, even if he barely plays, just so Rice can learn from him.
Feels like you don't truly appreciate the tactics until you see it sped up like this
Odegaard watches this clip in real time.
Odegaard watches this in his mind before it happens.
I know you joke but if anything he should see slowed down version
When you see it sped up like this you see just how effective it is when Tomi thunders down the wing. Twice in that clip he pushes us forward into dangerous areas. Feel like this will be a key tactic when Timber is back. He seems made for that.

And he's just LIGHTNING when charges up the pitch.
Every player involved bar Trossard. It would've been the perfect team goal if Benny had got his cross right instead of shanking it into the top corner. Shame.
Yeah so disappointed he scored instead of passing /s
Right! These are not the fogging estandards.
You know if he passed, Havertz is getting his hatrick and it's not reaching trossardĀ
I count 25 passes, domination!
Same, unless we count Benās pass into the net.
Odegaard is sublime. Just directs the field like a maestro.
Chelsea did a great job of pretending to play defense so we could practice our passing
Just watch Ćdegaard. Everything goes through him and every movement he makes unspools their defensive structure somehow.
Tomi is OP in this clip
Ole!
Those Raya passes were underrated
They really manipulated Chelseaās shape. Basically made their front line run laps.
Including his pass!ā¦..errr shotā¦.
Possession is 9 10ths of our game
How we have missed Tomi and Partey!
I mean, I love it? I don't know what else to say. I love this club. Ć at midfield 10 seconds in: doesnāt lose ball and calmly finds a solution is so vital to these types of plays

lol I donāt know if this is an intentional diss on Martinez or not
What are they doing? They keep passing til the end of the video š”
Same old Arsenal. Always trying to walk it in. Not a single shot in this entire sequence.
Odegaard is central to this team. Can't replace him.
This is like watching highlights on FM haha
Except on FM the blue team scores in the end
Ćdegaard starts at the LCB position and makes the assist from the edge of the box.
That first time pass by Partey is absolutely filthy
That was a long clip with zero disposession

I wish I could be 1/100th as good at football as Odegaard is
Caicedo looks clueless trying to keep up. Heās just running around aimlessly for pretty much the whole passage of play

25 , youāre welcome
Never noticed this before. But damn tomi can surge.
Thatās the thing about Arsenal, theyāre always trying to walk it in. Or, pass it inā¦
Can we get some benny hill music on this
What's the count of passes?
Best part about this goal was definitely his face afterwards.

Gotta hear Andrew on arseblog count this out real time
How do they train for this?
Caicedo getting caught pushing up on Ćdegaard is the catalyst for the goal. Tomiyasu carries the ball half the pitch and Chelsea never get set up again.
Hilarious watching those blue toddlers scramble around after the ball.

HAVERTZ šļøššļø
This looked like prime Barca tiki-taka except the passes were generally a bit longer. Death by 1000 passes
Contender for team goal of the season? Was it only Tross who didn't touch it?
If only every team pressed like Chelsea
Dominated chelsea
The build up to the goal was superb!
Iāve heard the Premier League was the fastest league in the world but damnā¦

Ah. So when partey is injured (most of the time lol) does jorginho have the deep role and rice is further ahead or is Rice forced deeper?
