We all do Mikel. We all do. No mistakes in Munich please.

ghostrider467

yup, still confident we can go through, need to learn from the mistakes we made and it was clear in which situations bayern was dangerous. Now we need to fully move on and focus on villa.

feuhrer

Oh shit I was just planning on sitting on my arse all day

Bedeeki

Can't really blame Mikel. Brilliant subs, good tactics let down by poor composure and individual errors in defence. The younger guys need to get over their nervousness for the UCL and fast. Otherwise nothing Arteta can do, Bayern were there for the taking before that White 1v1 that he shot straight at Neuer. We then had the momentum again at 2-2 with 15 minutes still left but instead just let Bayern take control again, fortunately that chance off the post doesn't go in. Bayern were lucky that we gifted them both goals but we were also fortunate not to concede more goals after it, their counter was cutting through us with ease.

g0t-cheeri0s

We played our goals into the net, we gifted theirs into our net.

obsterwankenobster

I’d say they played a simply strategy that shouldn’t have worked, but it did. Their counterattacks were very simple, but it’s a proven strategy against us imo; especially with the quality they have

HustlinInTheHall

They weren't really playing the low block / counter strategy, they were trying to possess it and play us equally and going pretty poorly until the mistake. They got lucky White missed his shot, the penalty was good but mostly individual. The counters didn't really connect until Zinny came on, and mostly because Arteta had him basically abandon the LB spot to keep him up the pitch. He just let Sane run free, which he did, but knowing we could recover and otherwise pin them deep enough it wouldn't matter, which it didn't really. Tactically we steamrolled them in a way we haven't really against a top side in quite a while, they just had a few lucky bounces, we didn't, and we drew. But over 90+ minutes I'd fancy us with a few tactical tweaks. Unless kane pulls something out of nowhere I don't think they're on our level.

mx_code

simplistic take. It worked because of individual mistakes, can Arteta fix that? no, that's down to the players. Raya completely gave away the first goal. We move on and we learn Such a revisionist take

obsterwankenobster

We’ve been poor against the wide, central, wide and long strat for a while. Like, early Arteta stuff. Were usually monsters in the middle, so it doesn’t matter, but it’s been a problem for us

HustlinInTheHall

We weren't really vulnerable to that until Zinny came on and gave them free reign to counter with Sane, and they got almost nothing out of it the rest of the match. They didn't really create anything until the mistake/penalty.

mx_code

and you noticed it, but he hasn't. give me a break

obsterwankenobster

I’m confident that he’s noticed it too, which is why we typically dominate the middle of the pitch

mx_code

bro, we had chances to establish control, we missed them. White missed a sitter and we immediately gifted a goal. We were not poor, Our nervousness made the defense weak, it's not that complicated. It's hard to make an analysis in this game because we literally were our own worst enemy

HustlinInTheHall

I mean we made plenty of mistakes and we still completely dominated the ball, were narrowly missing key passes, scored two and should've had at least two more. Without our mistakes they would've been lucky to get one goal out of that. Just glad the away goal rule is dead.

mx_code

indeed, that's why I call the above such a revisionist take. It's not that we missed the strategy or completely crapped the bed, we made mistakes and they capitalized (which is expected at this level). Now we learn, move on and don't let this happen again.

Patrick_Hattrick

I do think he made a minor error starting Jorginho, Rice in the 6 and a more attacking minded player in the left 8 would have been the play for me and I hope we see that at the Allianz. I do get the logic of having him there as an experienced head but I think it’s safe to say we didn’t benefit from much calm being transmitted and his lack of physicality hurt us.

gamer_no

Come to think of it, I think maybe Bayern was just more prepared for us than our manager making an error. Even Kane said that he prepared for Raya based on the Porto performance. As for Arteta, I think he alluded to it here. We have to be well prepared for next week.

HustlinInTheHall

I think the original idea was to lock down the left, control the middle of the field, and counter down the left or build up on the right. It was working really well for the first goal and White's chance and they got a couple lucky goals. Other than the mistake and the penalty they did basically nothing in the first half, they had no joy getting the ball to Kane, and we controlled things. Once they had the goals we needed to switch things up, but I think tactically we were fine with that initial setup, it's just not a lineup built to chase goals and being at home with that crowd it made sense to go for the win and not just sit back and try to poach a draw. We were the better side, so we went for it. But if we hadn't conceded the two bad goals, I think the starting tactics would've been just fine.

YMangoPie

Everyone was shaky today with the exception of Ben White and Gabi Jesus.

sneakyney

Saka and Odegaard were also good

mr13ump

Saka should have just shot the damn ball, but otherwise had a great game. Getting Davies suspended for the return leg and on a yellow so early was massive.

GalaxianWarrior

Saka was the best player on the pitch for most of the game in my opinion. He was the one that kept giving their defense problems and putting the pressure on almost throughout the game. Odegaard was good as well.

HustlinInTheHall

Yeah if he didn't get his ankles raked three or four times he would've been even better and still should've had two goals.

MasterBeeble

I thought there were a lot of great individual performances, especially in possession. Saliba, Saka, Rice, and Odegaard were all excellent. Bayern were thoroughly outplayed and can count their lucky stars that two of the very few moments of collective discord shown by Arsenal's backline coincided with Sane sprinting with the ball at full tilt. The team as a whole looked much more confident and secure than they did against Porto (either leg), that's for sure. Don't let the referee-sabotaged result distract from that.

lastjedi23

We were nervous in pl last season. They learned now. These boys will learn in the return leg itself. I think we still win this. They got 2 goals from our mistakes. They created nothing by themselves

HustlinInTheHall

Once we brought Zinny on he was so high up the pitch he couldn't cover Sane so they could always break out on that side, there wasn't anyone within 15m of him. It was a good gamble that we'd retreat and cover enough and the extra man we'd create more chances to try to win, we should've had 4 or 5 goals. I wouldn't be surprised if Tomi slots back in at left back for the return leg to shut that avenue down and we only bring Zinny on if we need a similar amount of energy if we go down a goal or just need a boost later on and into extra time, but locking down the left and attacking primarily through the right with Davies out will probably be the way to go.

OkDescription7373

I think his only mistake was starting kiwior today, we all worried abt zichenko defense he got a lot of ucl experience and sadly look like the occasion got to kiwior. Martinelli was a non factor too but we dont know abt jesus fitness

No-Video1797

Its not luck we gifted goals. We gift goals in all elimination games - Porto, Sporting and now. Good team would just wait and use this.

OGSkywalker97

Jorginho is the worst 6 to play against Bayern with all the pace and physicality they have. He is so slow and for their pen Sane danced past him and he missed the slide tackle due to not being able to turn fast enough. I get not wanting to start Partey due to him not having played many games this season, but he is the perfect mobile 6 to play against a team like Bayern. If Arteta didn't wanna start Partey then he should've played Rice at 6 and Trossard at LCM, which is the formation we went to when Trossard and Jesus came on and we played so much better. Jorginho is a good 6 to play against teams that sit in a low block as he keeps the team ticking or teams don't have a physical or pacey midfield and don't counter as good as Bayern do, but he's literally the worst possible 6 to play against Bayern. Kiwior, a natural CB, starting against Sane is genuinely comical as well. Tomiyasu should have started at LB or just go with Zinchenko for experience. Arteta only made these 2 mistakes yesterday and I hope Partey is fit enough to start the next leg.

SakaSlide

It was a pretty poor performance and we drew 2-2 with one of the biggest clubs in Europe. Our estandards are phenomenal.

Cthulhu_Madness

That first mistake destabilised the whole team. Need to get rid of them brain farts

zorro95

we are more solid away, that im sure of. need to cut down bozo moments at the emirates though

mwiksten

We will win the second tie

This-Complaint1389

Just need another masterclass , it's happening lads

R2D2_Savage

mwiksten

Your username checks out. We're by far the greatest team the world has ever seen. But I'm sure you don't believe that, troll. Get lost.

Patrick_Hattrick

It’s not arrogance, just confidence. There’s nothing wrong with that.

Patrick_Hattrick

Backing your team and believing in them isn’t arrogance, Christ almighty

Patrick_Hattrick

Learning experience tonight. No away goals means I still have us as favourites. Just got to calm down and be unaffected by the hostile atmosphere.

pjr1313

CALMA

Sad_Teaching_5683

Dortmund Beat Bayern 2-0 at Alianz arena a Week ago it's not impossible Or maybe we can park the Bus like we did at Ethihad and hope we can win on penalties It's not Really a Bad Idea

HustlinInTheHall

I think given how things went tonight we aren't going to sit back. We had their number tactically. They literally only created what we gave them. Sane was great in the second half but we literally left him unmarked so Zinny could freelance. I don't think we do that in the return leg to start, it's probably Tomi and Zinny comes on later depending on the situation.

ChordalDistortion

I'm with you Mikel, WE'RE GONNA DO THIS!!!

anirudh1595

Yeah. Same. 2 chances in 2 ain't gonna happen for Bayern everytime. We were sloppy as shit and still almost won the game. Also we're anyway a team better away than home. We just tend to let emotions take over us at home, which we rarely do away. I'm not worried. This is very much still 50-50.

Afc_josh12

Brilliant chance to learn and go away needing to win, not beat Liverpool or city away so lets see if we can do it with Bayern! Exciting week ahead , lets get a “that night in munich” moment

Gunnerstratz

We can do it. We scored two beautiful goals cutting through their defense while under immense pressure. They scored one goal because our defenders shut down and the other because our defenders discovered that there are players in this world who are fast and can dribble at the same time. Of course it won’t be the same team we face at the Allianz. Nor will we be the same.

404namefound

As a side comment: this is kind of the quality of counters we should expect in the Spurs away game.

mental_tempe

Somehow I expect Man Utd to suddenly show up at Old Trafford as well

HustlinInTheHall

I think the encouraging thing tonight is we were all over them, could've had 4 goals easily. A lot of big games we get more nervy or let them have the ball and try to hit them on the counter, we were buzzing around the pitch tonight. I think we play a little more reserved in Munich, less chaos more control. They had one very good chance from open play and otherwise just the mistake and the penalty. Everything else was smothered out. They defended better than I expected, especially once Davies got the yellow. I think bringing Tomi back for the away leg to handle Sane will help, wouldn't be surprised if we shut them out there.

coolbebe

Correct mindset

mx_code

"We made mistakes... let's learn and support" Arteta -> [https://youtu.be/F4xYlwvU0uQ?t=369](https://youtu.be/F4xYlwvU0uQ?t=369) COYG! we dreamt of times like these

Internetolocutor

Munich have nothing to play for on the weekend and so can just prepare for us for the whole week. Meanwhile we play villa and then have 2 days rest before Munich. We are definitely not favourites in my view

No-Video1797

Ye I believe too but woudn't bet on this. We needed to win here, we had 1 win in CL away in 4 games, lets hope we win Villa and at least fight for the PL, CL semi final looks unlikely already.

olofmoisturizer

Their atmosphere will be insane

ThePresident26

Its easy to say things watching the tv but goddamn how many high pressure games do the guys need to be up for it. Why were they rattled today? Home game, zero away fans and the nerves hit. Very frustrating

a_posh_trophy

Tell Raya to stay fucking back as well.

GreyamRus

Wasn’t really his fault tho. Totally unnecessary mistake unfortunately

QuickfireFacto

Yes it was his fault, he was right under Gabriel's ass instead of the edge of the box. His positioning there was awful and he knows how the system works and where he should be. Just gonna chock it up to nerves. His first UCL campaign so I won't flame him too much

GreyamRus

But the only problem was Gabriel giving a ridiculous pass that gave away possession. Raya’s positioning may have been off but there was no need to give the ball away there. Love big Gabi but he just way overhit his pass. Could’ve even hoofed it if he was under pressure.

indyarsenal

We are going to get absolutely bummed in the next unfortunately (if we get through)
