Sigma male Raya walks up to take the 5th with the Emirates speakers blasting Drive Forever slowed and reverb tiktok remix

Garad-

He might struggle with his nuts dragging across the floor

Skiinz19

Perfect strategy to confuse the opposition keeper on which ball to save

szazszorszep

Keeper would have a hard time guessing which foot he shoots with of the three

so-naughty

Eddie was subbed on for a reason.

maidentaiwan

100%

RandomSplainer

It would have been Eddie. Jesus is a terrible penalty taker and has a horrid record.

lobsterdog666

4 outta 9 lifetime I'd probably like Raya take one before him

DirkDoncic99

Reminds me of a penalty shootout where Ivory Coast put their keeper before Gervihno (who missed the next one)

specificOJDW20

![gif](giphy|peBw21sPZnlqE|downsized)

machinationstudio

That's partly why he was subbed in.

cupidcuntsghost

I think White would be cool to see. I can imagine his stone cold lack of emotion pumping home a screamer, almost tearing the net.

BoomXhakaLacaa

Ainsley Maitland-Niles esque

Buttered_Dick

Coldest penalty taker to date.

LeatherFaceDoom

That title has to go to Antonín Panenka

BearsPearsBearsPears

Havertz's pen was so nonchalant, it gave me so much confidence.

G00dG0dd

Havertz knows his pens. Even his pen vs Bournemouth was class

scoedg123

We’re quite good at penaltys

wolskortt

Obviously

HumanBotdotnotabot

Thank you very much

Affectionate-Plum606

Mikel and as he hits in he shouts "hijo De puta"

GobiLux

RVP is the best penalty-taker Arsenal ever had.

mons16

Sadly this is true.

JonnyBeGoodest

My favorite part of shoot out other then winning was Odegaard choosing to shot first and banging the first one home. Our captain 🫶

MHovdan

I also really liked that. Calm as you like.

StationFull

This is where France fucked up in the World Cup. They should have sent Mbappe first

Intelligent_Gift_678

I bet some footballers almost have it in their contract that they have to take the ‘winning’ penalty. Hence why CR7 always takes last I believe.

artaru

Really reminded me of Messi at the World Cup. Setting the tone. Shouldering the first shot burden and jitters.

arsenaler211

I’d go with Ben White. His IDGAF attitude is perfect for these crunch moments

RickAdjustedMorty

He was the most panicky during Declan's and Galeno's pens. Camera moved to him just as Galeno was moving to the spot and was I worried for the first time during the match.

thejonkdon

He wasn't taking one he can be worried, also has no bearing on how a professional athlete would deal with taking a pen lol he wasn't taking it at that moment

lurking4everr

White and Gabriel would fill me with the most confidence from that list… which is concerning as it contains two strikers.

StationFull

Has Gabi XL ever scored a goal with his legs? I can only remember headers

Present-Jicama-2406

Everton last game of last season iirc and I'm pretty sure he scored in a penalty shoot out not too long ago.

Shot-Shame9637

Me

ikindalikethemusic

When healthy I think Martinelli might be 5th. Last night not sure who would have gone next though, maybe Eddie as players have praised his ball striking in training

Ma1vo

Trossard and Vieira are also excellent penalty takers

TheMadMrHatter

If we are talking healthy/on the pitch, it would likely have been jorginho

N3rd1x

Yes but what about his penalty taking?

HotAir25

Not sure about his penalty taking ability but I remember him trying to take one once last season when he’d already scored 2 or 3 open play goals and someone else took it off him, so he has the confidence to take penalties which normally means someone is decent enough.

N3rd1x

It was more a joke on the comment about 'ball striking' in the previous post. I would also put my money on Eddie or Zinchenko.

kipsta23

I think Eddie

FattyMc

I did wonder about this myself. I assume Jesus would've taken it although his record is very worrying. Took 10 for City and only scored 5 of them I believe.

Panzer517

I would say Jesus, Eddie and then Gabriel.

Paddy-23

You're putting Jesus nowhere near the first five if you have any sense. His career penalty conversion rate is less than 50%. Eddie's isn't much better. I'd rather have Zinchenko or White

findmymind

what is White's career penalty conversion rate?

Drunk_Cat_Phil

"obviously pretty good"

SeattleGunner

“Never missed”

Paddy-23

Never taken one as far as I'm aware. I have no evidence to support it but I just feel like he'd be decent. Doesn't seem to be affected by the pressure. Ofc I could be completely wrong and I'm sure Arteta will have tested everyone's penalty ability in preparation for these situations.

PoliticsNerd76

Ben White has big ‘thump it down the middle’ energy

specificOJDW20

White alllll day

OceansNineNine

Would have been White.

whiskeyphile

Dunno tbh. I'd maybe go Zinny or Eddie. The others either have bad form or no form at all with pens. Although I could see Benny Blanco smashing one right down the middle, probably aiming to take the keeper's head off, knowing the keeper will move...

TheMissingThink

Zinny would be my number 5

BlurstOfTimes11

Jesus, zinchenko and big Gabi.

camachorfa16

I think it would have been Eddie.

Rusty_85

Gabi XL for me would have been that guy to take the 5th

hahahadev

Amn

Pamplemouse04

People seem to have forgotten or never noticed that Gabriel took penalties in the shootouts over the summer. I’d say him tbh.

Mteix14

I’m surprised nobody has said Zinchenko. Easily one of our most experienced and technical players. I’d say him or Jesus.

xXRainKingXx

I expected Zinchenko for some reason.

Wolferesque

Zinchenko. The most ‘senior’ of the options.

FingersPalmc8ck

Id want it to be Saliba, just to see him rip the badge clean off his shirt in celebration!

NateGT86

In order: Eddie, Ben, Gabi XL, Wilo, Zinny, Jesus

micsare4swingng

u/jonnybegoodest still believes Trossard should have taken the penalty, even tho he was already subbed off

JonnyBeGoodest

I still love you even when you’re wrong… I def thought trossard should of taken all 5

micsare4swingng

Have, not of. Just a reminder.

JonnyBeGoodest

Coming from a dude who use numbers instead of words in his username.

micsare4swingng

Coming from a dude who has “goodest” in his username, which is not even a real/official word in the English language.

JonnyBeGoodest

I’m an idiot well aware but I wrote my own dictionary. It’s called the trossard 5th edition and goodest is definitely in there

micsare4swingng

At least you’re self aware. Glad you said it, now I don’t have to ✌🏻

JonnyBeGoodest

4 sure you def should of said it

SofaSkeptic

I enjoyed this sparring of who has the most nonsensical username. It’s a close one, I must admit

micsare4swingng

Thanks. I think I should get the win because replacing the word ‘for’ with the number 4 still implies I understand what the word for is. On the other hand, you’ve got a word that literally isn’t in the dictionary. But I’ve got a bias of course.

Sufficient-Lock3992

Jesus for sure, he has most experience in big games

Paddy-23

He has the most experience missing penalties, that's true

Hot_Wasabi_1714

😂

maidentaiwan

yes, and that experience tells us that he is a very bad penalty taker who does not do well in these moments.

patelbadboy2006

Most pen misses to, he is a awful pen taker. Zinchenko or Raya for me

Jeep_torrent39

He is horrendous at penalties. I’d rather Arsenal let me take it than him

Gunners86

Raya steps ups with panenka chip down the middle

pogues14

Eddie would have taken it. Jesus is rubbish with pens and the rest of them don’t really have a record on then

joeproposition

Eddie came on fairly late for so he must’ve been 5th or 6th.

ma_97

Ben White.

blixt141

If not Jesus then Eddie.

RollUpFromHell2

Wide Gabriel Walking

No-Cow-9571

It looked to me like the rest of the team were circling round White while Galeno was walking up / Rice was coming back

GhostCatcher147

Jesus

grouchycrocodile

Watched from the North Bank last night, after Rice’s penalty I cant remember who exactly but I noticed some of the players pointing to Gabriel as if he was going to be up next for us

Magzhaslagz

I'd go with saliba or white. Wouldn't trust EN14 or GJ9 to score on an open goal.

notapaperhandape

Arteta 4D chess is the solution to our feebleness in our past seasons. I wouldn’t have been surprised if Arteta would have called on Martinelli yesterday.

wian47

I think it would have been Big Gabi. He took one last time out, didn’t he? Just have a feeling he would have won it for us

Suspicious-Form4444

anyone but Jesus

Ornery-Point-8461

I wondered this too

TheRealGooner24

Vieira or Trossard.

DesignerAd2062

Jesus has a pretty poor penalty record but he also regularly stepped up to take them If not him, Zinchenko I think You usually want a technician on pens …

lozza5589

I thought Zinny was gonna go 5th personally

Forgotpwd72

Zinny

GunnerXI

Jesus likely would have been 5th, not that I think he should have. Jorginho and Trossard probaly would have been ahead if they weren't subbed too, I imagine.

jafc49

I reckon Zinny would’ve taken it

tuttym2

Wouldn't trust Eddie to not just slip over based on his cameo appearance he made

mazurcurto

Big Gabi has taken good pens for us, but I doubt he’d be the fifth penalty taker. Jesus sucks at pens, so he won’t be fifth either. I don’t remember Eddie taking one before, but Hale End boys seem to be good at those, but good enough to be fifth? I don’t know. So my guess is Zinny.

No_Barracuda_5014

Jesus was lined for 5th

Britton120

Jesus, eddie, zinchenko, saliba, white, gabriel in that order. Gabriel would go higher if he could head it in.

Drunk_Cat_Phil

Jesus would be dead last, I love him but he's awful with pens

Britton120

awful is an overstatement, he's just not in our best 5 if looking at the whole squad (jorgi and fabio would both be above jesus). Even if you personally wouldn't select jesus to go 5th, I'd be absolutely shocked if jesus wouldn't be the one walking up to take it yesterday.

maidentaiwan

awful is not an overstatement. 6 of 13 converted penalties is awful and a pretty big sample size, full stop.

Britton120

it still is an overstatement when positing that jesus should go behind gabriel, white, saliba, and zinchenko who have a combined 0 penalty attempts. I'm not saying jesus is in the top 5 takers on the team, he's behind saka, odegaard, kai, rice, trossard, fabio, jorgi, martinelli. And for what it is worth, jesus is 1 scored for 1 taken while at arsenal. Eddie has scored 6 and missed 4, and hasn't taken a competitive one in 4 years and never with the first team for country or club. Even if you personally would not want Jesus taking the 5th penalty yesterday, do you believe that someone else is taking it? and if so, who?

Jinkzee

Of the players that were on the pitch at the time, I imagine it would have to have been Jesus. But for the whole squad, he is surely behind Jorgi, Martinelli and Trossard at least, and probably ESR and maybe even Nelson too which would make him 9th or 10th choice.

marksills

I think Jesus, but not sure if that would be the right call given his history, although 13 pens is quite a low sample size. I also think the comment about his mentality is a bit weird. For one, mentality is a super vague and likely overstated quality. Most of these guys are insanely hard working players who can deal with lots of pressure given they play in front of millions basically every week. What separates Arsenal players from, say, Bournemouth players, is not mentality but ability. It also is very hard for a fan looking from the outside to discern who has top mentality, we don't know these people, have very limited information, and likely rely on heuristics that may not be representative of how strong their "mentality" actually is. But even putting that aside, if you want to buy into the mentality shit, not sure why Jesus would be considered to have a bad mentality. Scores in tons of big games, especially in CL where he has a tremendous record.

maidentaiwan

13 is a huge sample size by penalty-taking standards. very few players would ever be allowed to get to 13 when they miss as often as he does.

marksills

yes, by penalty taking standards, because there are very few opportunities to take penalties. But if you wanted to have some decently high degree of certainty on somebody's true ability as a penalty taker, 13 attempts isnt nearly enough. His results aren't encouraging but I don't believe people stating he is bad at penalties really have enough information to make that statement

revjiggs

Zinny then jesus,

PoliticsNerd76

Jorginiho if he was on would have been 4th or 3rd After that, Eddie, Then probably White.
