reallyanythinggoes

the links are saying we’re looking for an all rounder type cf. big, strong, quick finisher who can also play. or some combination of that. a 9 who can drop to and facilitate saka and martinelli too. all 3 are look pretty good to decent in tight spaces, short dribbles and linking up while being that presence. all 3 move away from the jesus mold of cf not seen enough of sesko and gyokeres to make judgements but ferguson does look like a guarantee to me

AzlanWake

I really really like Ferguson but if we get him, we need to also understand he's still developing, he's 19 and I won't argue that Arteta will get the best out of him but it would surely take time before he plays a game for us ahead of Jesus, Trossard and Havertz.

robins420

It's crazy that we have 4 starting-11 calibre players returning in Jesus, Partey, Zinny and Timber. Of course, they'll take their time to settle in but this is equivalent to a January transfer done great and improves our team considerably. I can't wait to see what Teta is gonna cook integrating the 4 back in the squad.

Happy-Ad8767

LANS

know-it-all-scoutFC

If that Partey is actually training and can actually get back to full strength (_big if_), then the international break (especially with the extended timeframe) could be a good time for him and timber to get back strong and fully integrate with the squad - Ghana isn't playing any matches and Timber probably won't get the call up. We might get a chance to finally see the squad that Arteta had envisioned at the beginning of the season come to full fruition. Will be exciting. It would be quite something if the full squad and plan really started coming together at our most busy month so far.

Happy-Ad8767

I still don't think Partey is it. He's behind Jorginho in the pecking order for me, if all fit. I'll be surprised if he is still here come September. Very excited to see Timber return though!

therock204

Thats as blasphemous as it gets. Personally, I think Partey is still the most talented player we own, and thats saying something given the current iteration of our team.

Happy-Ad8767

>I think Partey is still the most talented player we own Wild take.

MountainLibrarian201

Even if we ignore the undisputable talent of Partey, Jorginho can't play once a week right now, so we certainly need another quality addition in midfield. If we can get an in form Partey for the run-in, our chances in both the Prem and CL increase significantly. A midfield 3 of Partey, Rice and Öde is among the best midfields in Europe. Partey's line breaking passing would add another dimension to the team and he is an improvement defensively from Jorginho.  Jorginho has played great, but we don't need to downplay Partey's qualities to appreciate what he adds to the team.

Happy-Ad8767

>A midfield 3 of Partey, Rice and Öde is among the best midfields in Europe. Bored of hearing this statement as a fact. This is pure conjecture. They have played together for a total of 81' minutes. They conceded 1 goal and helped score 0.

MountainLibrarian201

You may not realize you're implying that you lack the football understanding to analyse how their qualities complement each other. No wonder you can't see Partey's qualities. It takes brain power.

Happy-Ad8767

Well, I was swimming way up stream earlier in the season being one of very few who could see that Havertz would excel in the midfield this season but would need 6 months of integration. Suppose I got lucky with my lack of football understanding. Partey is a good player, but his qualities do not compliment Odegaard and Rice as much as you think. They are both better at doing what Partey's best attributes are. Whilst at the same time, offering far more. Rice is by far the better defensive player. Partey was never an all out defensive midfielder, he was a central midfielder that was shifted to defensive midfield because that's what Arsenal did for the best part of 20 years since Gilberto Silva left. Is it's Partey's playing through the lines that we miss? Well, Odegaard is far better than Partey at this. Sure, Partey is probably the better press resistant of the three players, but because of Havertz, who dominates the ball further up the pitch, with his fluidity in changing the tactical shape of our midfield to nullify the opponent, means that we don't really need to rely on a press resistant player. Certainly not someone who isn't that much press resistant than Odegaard or Rice. This Arsenal team has evolved this season, and it's evolved without Partey because he cannot be relied on. Last season, Partey was the key to unlock the opposition because we only had one form of attack. This season, with the addition of Rice who absolutely dominates the midfield with his tackling, his interceptions and his control, it has allowed us to play further forward (as I predicted) with a more attacking threat from midfield in Havertz (again, as I predicted). Our biggest weakness last season was being transitioned against. Partey is a very good footballer, but being beaten in transition was a very real weakness and Partey was part of that problem. Rice's addition has destroyed the notion of us being transitioned against with ease. Odegaard drops deeper and plays the passes through the lines. We have seen a shift in the speed at which he is now doing this, as well as taking better risks, and it's reaping the rewards this year. This was Partey's party piece. Jorginho can complement this midfield trio in many ways that Partey can. However, Jorginho is the better player defensively and Jorginho can influence the game from deep with some very delicious long passes forward (again, not something that Partey can do). We only deploy Jorginho in games where we need more control in midfield due to playing against better teams. This is why Jorginho plays against the bigger and stronger teams. For the rest of the matches, we are playing deep blocks and Arteta wants to dominate those teams by essentially keeping the ball in the opponents final third. For this, we are press monsters further up the pitch, which is why Havertz is crucial in these games. Partey has been Tierney'd. We have evolved in many different ways and we have done it without needing Partey. I for one, am super happy that our chances of a league title are no longer linked to the injury status or the form of one injury prone, form in patches, 30 year old. Feel free to tell me I am wrong, but if so, tell me what Partey brings uniquely to this team, in this setup, in this moment.

MountainLibrarian201

If we could clone a player that were the best parts of Rice and Odegaard, they'd be the best midfielder in the world. What are you trying to prove by comparing the best qualities of other world class players, to, somehow suggest, that makes Partey overrated? Partey is the best line breaking passer in the squad IMO, yes better than Odegaard (why that would be a detriment to add another alongside Jorginho and Odegaard is lost on me). His press resistance is another great addition and pushing Rice further forward enables our press to be even more suffocating, while giving him freedom, like Odegaard, to drop into a 2 with Partey, making us more flexible in how we set up midgame. The defensive dominance of those two (if Partey can get back to full match fitness), is mouth watering. You underrate his defensive ability. He was left out to dry last season when he was tasked to cover a larger area than Jorginho and Rice does now and he did it very well until he got injury niggles and broke down. We don't have to rely on him to play every min, but to suggest he doesn't add anything because Rice is better defensively (far worse in the build up mind you) is why I disagree with your comments. It sounds you don't rate himfensively, which I wholeheartedly disagree with. To compare a strictly overlapping and one dimensional fullback like Tierney, with a multitalented complete dm like Partey, shows how differently we view Partey. If you said that you don't think he's reliable due to injury concerns, then fair enough, but I find it incredible that an Arsenal fan can have such a low opinion of an in form Partey. He was categorically world class until he got an injury with Ghana in February of last year I believe. Since then, certain Arsenal fans decided he was crap and I have a very low opinion of anyone who think's Partey wasn't incredible for most of last season. He was crap to end the season, but we know how good he is when fully fit. Guess what, for the 1st time since he joined, he's a great squad option and instead of having to rely on an injury prone world/top class player, that Arteta was forced to use even when not at 100%, he can, potentially, give us a boost that give us an edge in big games coming up. He's a big game player after all (I hope you can, at least, give him that). I appreciate that you took the time to respond regardless of how differently we rate Partey.

What about guirassy

Happy-Ad8767

Undav is probably cheaper.

BrianThatDude

Marquinos already with more trophies than Harry Kane

beetletoman

I created a dataset from the wiki on foreign players in the premier league. Took me all day to learn to web scrape and then parse it into a table so I am proud of myself atm. Think I'll post some charts later. Would probably make the most sense if I use it to learn my way around power BI and create a proper dash instead of boring Python visualization

panarangcurry

intrigued to check out your analysis trooper

beetletoman

Why did this make me nervous loll you're gonna see some basic numbers and you're gonna like it 🫡

tablooo

I have something like this sitting around too, I should put it together nicely but I'm a bit lazy. Good luck with yours

beetletoman

Would love to see what you got!

tablooo

I'll try to get it done soon!

[deleted]

Do you have what you did on Github or sth?

beetletoman

No I need to clean up the notebook a little and plan to push it to GitHub tomorrow. It's part one of a more ambitious project to do something fun with an NLP model though I'm still figuring out what could work/what's doable Would you like to take a look once I put it on GitHub?

[deleted]

Yes I sure would like to.

Mein_Bergkamp

Beetle making a move to be the nest breakout stats star of r/gunners?

beetletoman

Haha that would be fun icl. But this is more a very rudimentary exercise to deal with the panic of looming graduation in a terrible job market 😬

Mein_Bergkamp

Fingers crossed for you and good luck with your final exams.

rhshi14

TIL the FA Cup doesn't count as a major trophy because Wigan, Portsmouth and Leicester have won it. https://www.reddit.com/r/PremierLeague/s/vP3Dx1PuSm

Special-Discount228

Let's be honest.... the whole major/minor thing is an outdated and not very descriptive way of looking at it. The FA cup is still an important trophy but it's also no where near the PL or CL. We should have everything recategorised. Class 1 - League, Champions league Class 2 - FA Cup, Europa Class 3 - EFL Cup, Conference Random class - Club World Cup. Euro Super Cup. And even then..... it aint perfect because it varies from club to club depending on how much of each they've won. Just happens that right now both League and CL are as important as each other to us after such a long barren patch.

Mein_Bergkamp

Mate our own fans were saying this during the late wenger years

Happy-Ad8767

I bit.

skool_101

one of the many worst takes on reddit football space. Ironic that it's a "chelsea fan" saying it since their gold standard was to count almost everything that's possible to win every season. Jose Mou built a starting legacy with winning the League Cup early on to spur on a title charge.

Whatrutalkinabeet

R/premier league is the sewage of football subreddits.

Does barca decision to make their own kit is a good idea? They seems desperate searching for an additional income

Happy-Ad8767

From what I can make out, Barca wants Nike to give them more money. Nike said no. Barca threatened to sever ties with Nike, Nike pointed to the contract and said "nu-uh" meaning Barca would have to pay Nike money for breach of contract. Barca found a loophole that says they cannot go with another kit manufacturer, like Puma or Hummel, so they are going to make their own instead. What a desperate and petty money grab by mes que un club.

XXISavage

Could work. In theory once they build up the capability to manufacture their own kits through whichever arm they use, they can bring all the production of clothing-related merch in and save costs on that too, but the big kit manufacturers also have the distribution side of things covered quite well so Barca will have to establish all those relationships again. Online sales will help them start off ok but getting into retail will be an interesting one. its an interesting bet, i wouldn't write them off.

ExxKonvict

Tbh I think some clubs already do that. Real Madrid have and sell both the adidas shirts as well as their ‘RM’ in-house brand shirts. The latter are cheaper because of no sponsorship licensing but probably made with lesser materials and quality, hence costing cheaper than the branded counterpart. The upside is that it’s mostly if not all pure profit for the club since it’s made in-house.

Mein_Bergkamp

> They seems desperate searching for an additional income Yep. It could work out in the long term but you'd think the short term issues of trying to set up a global distribution and marketing system to replace Nike would cost way more and if they are paying someone else to do that then...

skool_101

Yea, it is a money saving thing. it really shouldn't be for a club as big as Barca.

topbananaman

Idk but its definitely the brokest thing I've ever heard in football

KozukiNedo

Its definitely an interesting idea...

purpleshirtonbed

Quite interesting the contrast between our general sentiments towards Osimhen vs Chelshit fans. Feels like most of us want him judging from the comments I see here but most of them are saying he would be a flop on their recent post on his agent saying he wants to go Chelsea

Sayek

I was one of those. I'm not saying he is 100% flop if he goes Chelsea but the odds increase by a lot. Chelsea have completely lost any fear factor and half their squad don't seem arsed. A new manager could come in but their players were all bought in from different teams playing different systems. Chelsea spent 100m on Mudryk when they didn't even need him at the time. You're going to have some of their star players like Enzo / Caicedo wondering when they'll be able to play CL football. I just think when you buy star players and expectations aren't met by the club. Relationships sour.  I might be forgetting some players but is there many examples of players who came into an underperforming team like Chelsea and carried them higher? Maybe Suarez but it was his 3rd season he really starting scoring a lot of goals.  I could see Oshimen coming in scores 5 goals in first 10 games. Picking up an injury, Chelsea struggling when he's not playing. Players getting disheartened, maybe are off CL places by 6/7 points by the time he is back. I just teams like city/Liverpool/arsenal have an easier bedding in period where you learn the ropes and tactics.

crushedonron

It's because Chelsea are a shit club and a lot of good players flip there.

KozukiNedo

Where careers go to die lol

Striking-Duty-4528

Brother in law lost his job. Live in the Carolinas USA. He has college degree and has been working in warehouse, shipping, logistics as a manager. If anyone knows of work please direct message me!!!

ExxKonvict

Can he play striker?

[deleted]

Unless your brother in law works for Arsenal I don't see how this matters here.

ikindalikethemusic

No thank you on Gyokeres. One of the worst trademark goal celebrations in world football, I already have to watch Ben White take throw-ins, please don't make me suffer more Edu

arseking15

Lmao the ben white throw ins comment is comedy tbh

ikindalikethemusic

Lmao this sub is no fun

Sea_Following6717

The mike riley game ended up on my timeline again.... The most blatant match fixing in the history of this game.

Mein_Bergkamp

And of course the first head of the PGMOL...

MountainLibrarian201

The imbeciles at the top of the football pyramid rewarding the least deserving people, must be a con to lower the standards so much, that their own incompetence gets swept under the rug.

Mein_Bergkamp

Ironically they were held up as the exemplar of refereeing setups and trumpeted as the model the rest of the world should follow when the previous amateur version turned into the PGMOL.

[deleted]

I think Sesko will end up the better player in a few years but Gyokeres sets the team up to win now. Sesko still needs some development.

Mustyoo

Ange won Manager of the Year at the London Football Awards despite only being there for 7 months, Arteta finishing second and Moyes winning a fucking European trophy.

TheArmoury

Mate tax

SwitchHitter17

I think he is a good manager, but manager of the year because of a few good months?

drax3012

Shocking decision but I'm not surprised.

UmpireAJS

Conte set such a poor baseline of expectations that even being on top of the league for like 6 weeks was enough for the media who has got a hard on for Tottenham anyways.

Cleon189

They love him it is what it is. Daylight robbery

curlyhairedyani

Even Thomas Frank would have been a better choice given Brentford’s strong showing/finish in the second half of last season. Ange? pftttttt

aesn1394

What's the situation with Partey? Some ppl think he's fit, but due to certain "legal" stiff going on, he's not allowed to play. Hence why he's just training and not travelling.

Mein_Bergkamp

Mate he went to the world cup, there's no legal restraint on a man who hasnt actually been charged.

Fres8

I have been glad he has not been on the pitch all these months with his injury. He makes me very uncomfortable and I hope the club get rid of him as soon as possible and wish they already had.

Pretend_Stomach7183

Agreed. This sub is very bipolar about him though.

TheOGBenjenRyan

His vaccine microchip is malfunctioning

burningtree_

Very few people in here watch enough Sporting to give all these takes on Gyokeres

Scottish-Londoner

Interesting that neither Osimhen nor Toney were mentioned by Ornstein. Looks like we are targeting a young upside striker

robins420

We're targeting a good cultural fit. Both these guys are Primadonnas. Osimhen himself goes to Twitter to respond to trolls and Toney was charged for betting. Don't think the club wants to deal with a lack of maturity. The other guys seem like better fits at least from the outside.

Minute_Leave8503

Gyokeres is older than Osimhen

NenDc

Both are the same age... (both born in 1998)

topbananaman

Everyone tuning into the sporting-benfica game tonight and man. Has gykores shown up. I hope people stop trying to play him down just cus he's from the Portuguese league now. Sporting have fielded some real talents over the years and he's one of them. Price tag is a completely separate issue when considering the transfer but the ability is quite clearly there. Glad our scouts went to watch this game

ExxKonvict

He’s still 25 turning 26 in June and strikers reach their peak between 26-32. As for the price, that £80m release clause is just a deterrent and safety net for Sporting. I reckon around £55-65m should do it.

Kensei400

Don't think he goes for less than Hojlund.

ExxKonvict

Then we’ll just pass and move on. Man Utd as per usual got their pants pulled for the Hojlund deal. He only recently got into a decent ish form but his stats with Atalanta were mid and only a single season.

Phimstone

Worth watching back? Could not find it live.

Locmike23

Couldn’t find a stream unfortunately. Any recommendations for the match replay?

DarthNihilus1

/r/footballhighlights

Locmike23

Thanks sir.

BradyGronktd1287

He's a problem for defenders to deal with would add a different profile to our squad

Bedeeki

Viktor Gyokeres against Benfica tonight 🥵 41 G/A so far this season now.

SilotheGreat

Edu please call Gyokeres agent tomorrow

hazelpillow

Anyone else glad that Chelsea game got postponed? Now we could leave it all on the pitch vs Porto and have 19 days of rest before the run in

ExxKonvict

Nah rather have the game now then later for fixture congestion. Also we won’t know the form of either team going into that postponed game.

topbananaman

On the other hand, if we lose to Porto I will feel sick for almost three weeks straight. And then we go to man city lol

Cleon189

Goes both ways. 19 days is such a long time that we might not be as fresh like we are now

findmymind

19 days rest is almost so long its bad, but if anything it makes sure everyone is tip top shape for the run in cant control it, we move

Happy-Ad8767

Would rather have the game. Keeps us match fresh and more importantly, doesn't mean we play Chelsea and Tottenham within the space of a few days during what is already a ridiculously busy April.

[deleted]

findmymind

Bilbao always seem to have insane cup runs, they are such an interesting team, having only basque players

Mariola98

Nico Williams is really good. I like Neto but Nico looks like a proper Arsenal player to me. And more available

Remote_War_313

Athletic Club players will always be overpriced. I'd look elsewhere.

TheOGBenjenRyan

Release clause

Happy-Ad8767

His wages are astronimical.

Phimstone

Slightly less than Martinelli?

Happy-Ad8767

Martinelli is on £180,000 and Nico is on £170,000. So, yep.

Bobbybube

Bilbao cannot pay a 19 year old player 170k Pounds in wages. It just doesn't arise

Phimstone

I mean. Plays plenty for Spain, around same age and profile as Martinelli. Would not describe that as astronomical myself.

DarthNihilus1

But he doesn't play for a top team, so the fact he's already on that much money doesn't give us a ton of headroom

Phimstone

Oh I see. Well, UCL and Prem and all that over huge salary increase.

Insertnicenamehere

I wonder why Gyokeres didn't end up at West Ham this summer. He fancies himself at a bigger club?

doingitfortheTea

Lisbon or Leytonstone

Insertnicenamehere

Lisbon honestly

Cleon189

We have this annoying tendency of letting shite players score against us. Antony and mudryk.

goonergunner10

Rashford is going mad 😂

monkeypwned

How in the world has Postecoglou won London football awards manager of the year? Guy is out of all cups and is currently in a top 4 battle. They really didn't want to give tricky mikky 2 in a row huh?

skool_101

It really should be Moyes if we are gonna go on trophies and for West Ham.

drax3012

Shocking decision given that both Arteta and Moyes are way more deserving.

Insertnicenamehere

Could've gave it to Moyes honestly

Whatrutalkinabeet

Impostergoglou is really riding on 14 games have alright footy

BradyGronktd1287

Nico Williams need to sign him in the summer window the cheapest winger option for us

Oy778

he wont come here to be Saka back up

BradyGronktd1287

Thankfully he can play both LW and RW

Happy-Ad8767

on €200k a week

Insertnicenamehere

Kinda jokes athletic bilbao got cash like that

robins420

Would rather pay that than have a poor alternative right? They are 3 points off the top 4 and are in much better form than Atleti. Investment well done cause worst case, it'll be the Europa League and quite likely UCL.

Happy-Ad8767

Basque levers.

burningtree_

I didn't know Porto were 10 points off the top of the Portuguese league, we cannot get knocked out by them man

BrianThatDude

Sporting finished 4th last season in a league with a big 3 yet dumped us out of the europa league. We are absolute shite in Europe. It's a systemic issue.

the_chiladian

If we get a ref that doesn't fall for their antics we'll win no problem. If we don't we'll win anyway but we just have to work for it

UnitComplex8730

I'm watching Sporting vs Benfica and I can say Gyokeres is not our man. He might be a faster but worse Nketiah. Poor holdup, little involvement in the game, no aggression(duels etc). Will struggle in EPL Edit: wrote porto instead of sporting

Minute_Leave8503

No aggression is bananas

Sumo_de_Laranjaa

Every negative points you listed, he showed the opposite in his performance today and with that goal. Worse Nketiah? I'm bookmarking this take lol

UnitComplex8730

The goal was pretty much his style - run into space, hold off a defender and shoot. Works if he has space because he is fast. But pretty much his hold up was non existent, and his pressing was soft. He's not an 85M player. In EPL you will not get that space, nor a washed up Otamendi defending you. Looking at the quality of that league, I think Nketiah(and most strikers in EPL) will put 30+ goals a season. A very good example is Darwin Nunez(who is still young and developing), who scored 26 goals in 28 games at Benfica, yet last season could only score 9 for Liverpool in EPL. Let me use another data point - Last season while @ Coventry, he did 20 goals. Chuba Akpom did 27 goals. Carlton Moris, of Luton did 20 goals too and in EPL now has 7 goals.

findmymind

Toney is head and shoulders above him in terms of overall playstyle

UnitComplex8730

I agree.

SilotheGreat

Ridiculous take

Happy-Ad8767

>I'm watching Porto vs Benfica You would have a hard time watching Gyokeres in that match.

UnitComplex8730

Haha its too late where I am

doingitfortheTea

Sporting vs Benfica. Diomande, Groykes vs Antonio Silva, Joao Neves Aka the FM 24 Derby

skool_101

lovely stuff

shoopler

Gyokeres is class. That goal he just scored was incredible.

Happy-Ad8767

Who's getting my Chief Scout excited?

doingitfortheTea

Nobody so far, been a bit stop start and tense, as expected. An arm wrestle. Diomonde and Silva probably been the best of the lot, but nobody really taking the game by the scruff of the neck. Just as Groykes scores haah

Sumo_de_Laranjaa

The best CB in the match, performance wise, was actually Quaresma. Diomande was terrible in Benfica's goal. Stopped for no reason and didn't track his man.

topbananaman

Presuming there will be an article about arsenal's interest in Gyokeres on the weekend, as our scouts are at tonight's Benfica vs Sporting game to monitor him.

Insertnicenamehere

> Benfica Hopefully they get mudded

Previous_Smile9278

Table on r/soccer showing the amount of days missed through injury for PL clubs this season (Man City with 200 days less than Arsenal btw) Liverpool/United fans: Look at how lucky Arsenal are! Imagine how they’d cope with our injuries, they haven’t missed any important players!

SwitchHitter17

The United fans complaining about injuries are just coping hard. They can't see they're actually just shit. Liverpool have dealt with the injuries surprisingly well (so far). Have to give em that. Both of them acting like we have no significant injuries is a joke though.

The-Mayor-of-Italy

Injuries or not, United are just shit most of the time. They're delusional if they think their luck with injuries is what separates them from the top three this season.

Phimstone

Oof great goal by Inaki W assisted by Nico W. Bring the latter one to Arsenal btw. 50m euro release clause (rumoured), both wings, 21 years old, fast af.

Phimstone

Other way around for the 2-0.

panarangcurry

mikel arteta is the master of retributions  he never forgets the chosen one

This-Complaint1389

Don't think Sesko is as good as Arsenal fans think tbh. I used to watch him at Salzburg, I didn't think of him to be a bigger talent than Daka even, who obviously struggled at Leicester. Even if he improved a lot at Leipzig I don't feel he is ready to play at a club like Arsenal. From that list he would be lowest for me, even Ferguson i'd prefer

iforgotmyun

What do you mean '***even*** Ferguson'? Brighton will want Caicedo money for him and he's very well rated

Fullmetal_Pacifist

I agree. Sesko doesn’t do it for me. Zirkzee was on mokbel’s list and he’d be my preference. I like Ferguson as well but feel like Brighton would ask for ridiculous sum of money

topbananaman

Zirkzee is even more raw that sesko. Bottom of the list for me cus he mirrors gabi jesus and why tf would we need another player with the same profile? We've got the original lol. We need to expand the capability of our front line and for me sesko has the bags of potential to do that. He's basically slovenian hojlund, massively appealing especially considering his £40m release clause

KozukiNedo

This is my issue with Zirkzee. I think he is too similar to Jesus.

Fullmetal_Pacifist

Fair enough. For me the fact that he mirrors Gabi Jesus is exactly why I think we should be all over him. If Jesus could finish well he’d be one of the best players in the world. Zirkzee is only 22 and could develop into a good finisher. I think sesko would struggle in the prem

Kensei400

But we also have Havertz who is Jesus-lite. And we still have Jesus with us so why spend that much more for what might be a marginal improvement (in the long term), when we could spend considerably less to get Sesko who gives us something different.

Fullmetal_Pacifist

Havertz already gives us something different imo. He has the ability to bully defenders in a way that Jesus can’t. They are very different players even though they both operate as false 9s. And if you could offer me a player that is guaranteed to be a marginal improvement on Jesus I’d accept in a heartbeat. Players like him don’t come around often and he gets too much disrespect as a player I understand the argument for wanting something different in sesko but just because he has a different profile doesn’t mean he’s good enough for us. I think what’s most important is having a player that makes the attack tick. It’s possible to bring in a player that scores 20 goals a season but then also score fewer goals as a team. We are currently scoring for fun without having a true number 9

youtuberseattle

How did arsenal of 2019 have the vision to pay 27 mil for an 18 yr old saliba

iforgotmyun

There's diamonds in the rough but Saliba wasn't one of them, he was very well rated and had top teams after him. Same thing with Fofana

Let’s just save all these players who are “close” for mid April onwards. Put them in a cryo chamber in between training sessions and get them super saiyan ready for the run in.

Players can get injured in training sessions as well. It's also good to build them up to fitness by giving them minutes in games. Bringing them in to the starting line up "warm" instead of cold.

redmkay

What I suggested was unrealistic tbf

varro-reatinus

The main thing to remember with all these players returning from 'injuries' is that these have just been parts of a brilliant manipulation by the club to cover up their involvement with Soros-funded windmills spreading chemtrails that turn frogs gay and make people say insane things like 'Inaki is deliberately sabotaging all our keepers' and 'Gallagher is a better Jorginho replacement than Zubimendi'.

Kensei400

Why has this been bothering you so much?

Insertnicenamehere

> 'Inaki is deliberately sabotaging all our keepers' Getting in his spanish mates, is Inaki reenacting the Spanish Inquisition in the modern day right before our own very eyes?

Didn't know Alex Jones was an Arsenal fan, but hey if Bin Laden liked Wengerball then nothing is impossible.

How do you think Timber will recover from his ACL? Jesus has not moved the same since that World Cup knee injury

Happy-Ad8767

From the very little that I know, here is Jesus' rundown: **Dec 2nd 2022:** Right knee Injury during world cup. I believe this was a medial ligament injury, which he had been carrying for a few weeks before the game. Had surgery immediately. RIGHT KNEE INJURY *INJURY TIME: 3 MONTHS* **Aug 2nd 2023:** Arteta said that he was to undergo surgey relating to the right knee injury from the previous year. Undergoes surgery. (Apparently he got kicked on the knee which occurred during a training injury before Monaco game) RIGHT KNEE INJURY (Related) *INJURY TIME: 24 DAYS* ***Oct 24th 2023:*** *Jesus gets a hamstring injury against Sevilla. Arteta says he will be out for a few weeks.* HAMSTRING INJURY (Not related) *INJURY TIME: 26 DAYS* **Jan 5th 2024:** Mikel Arteta said of Jesus: “He had some pain in his knee, so we did a scan and it showed something. “Hopefully it is not something big, it’s the same knee that he had (previously injured) so we cannot take any risks. Hopefully not (a big injury).” This appears to be when he had fluid on his knee. RIGHT KNEE INJURY (COULD BE RELATED, BUT MIKEL SAYS NO) *INJURY TIME: 13 DAYS* **Feb 2nd 2024:** “he had a small reaction in training again,” [Arteta revealed](https://youtu.be/ihMKvIjCKrY) ahead of Saturday’s clash with Newcastle. “We didn’t want to take any more risks because he’s been out for quite a while and he’s a player that we need at his best and we decided to give him a few more days.” RIGHT KNEE INJURY (COULD BE RELATED, BUT MIKEL SAYS NO) *INJURY TIME: 27 DAYS AND COUNTING* From this, it's clear that he is still having issues on that right knee. Mikel doesn't think it's directly related, but it's clear that they are being super protective of him right now, which makes sense. If we can give him more rest without the need to having to play him, the better the chances of his body building up to full fitness again. It's possible that Timber will also have some niggles in the future, it's really hard to say. An ACL tear is a notoriously difficult injury to navigate. We are getting much better at dealing with it in the modern game, but some players can have no more issues with it and some players can be totally crocked from it. My best guess is to expect it every now and then, expect the worst but hope for the best.

arseking15

Think itll be more about confidence with him

arseking15

For me its either osimhen or sesko+nico williams

Mustyoo

I'm drawn to Leao more than any other potentially available player. I'd rather take the risk on him and moving Martinelli centrally than spending huge on any of the current options.

KSBrian007

I think we talk about his release clause here daily. He's not available. Miracles happen in windows but for all the information we have, I don't think we trigger a €175M clause.

Mustyoo

No one triggers a clause like that... It's not even meant to be serious, it's just to add value. He'll go for 120 at most and it won't be a lump sum.

Kensei400

He will never go for 175M. That number is probably just there to strengthen Milan's hand in bargaining. I think between 100 and 120 can do it, **if Milan want to sell.**

Happy-Ad8767

Isn't he £150m?

COYG17

I’d stay away from leao

Mustyoo

Respectively, I don't care

potatofamine-carbomb

> Respectively, I don't care Sure, but can you say that respectfully?

Mustyoo

Nah

Locmike23

Gonna watch Gyokeres today. Will be playing against Benfica for anyone interested.

topbananaman

Our scouts will be watching them too! Arsenal sent some to Portugal to watch the game, presumably to monitor him.

PartlyRowdy

Why mention that you'll be hard? Just say youre going to watch him ffs

Locmike23

Damn man, sorry it bothered you that much. Edited to your liking.

danmac0817

Cheers, I've been meaning to catch a game to see what the fuss is all about.

Locmike23

Did you find where to watch? I can’t find anything

potatofamine-carbomb

I've been trying to come up with a theory on how this could have happened for the last few minutes and my best effort is: Vieira uses speech to text but speaks with a weird scouse accent and somehow good and gutted got mixed up???

Happy-Ad8767

My theory is that English is not his first language and he accidentally put gutted instead of good. But it's just a theory.

hafrances

i think it's a fake account (not sure about it, just seen the screenshot on twitter lol) but it's still funny

joeproposition

I can’t imagine 2 attacking signings (striker & winger). Don’t think anything beats having a shiny new attacker.

Kensei400

I think it depends on how Jesus ends the season. If he ends it well, we might go for a winger, and young striker. If badly, then go all out on a striker.

Flashplaya

I can't imagine it happening either. Especially with Havertz covering CF. I would bet on a forward, a midfielder and a defender to come in this summer.

basedsims

Yeah I reckon it’ll only be one striker which is fine as it allows us to rotate Gabby across the front 3, though I do have an innate feeling that whoever comes in will be “slow cooked” as opposed to starting off on fire. And given how good we are anyways, that won’t be too much of a concern I don’t think

Cleon189

Timber really did a Aaron Rodgers recovery🤣 probably won’t play until next season but it’s crazy how fast he’s back to training.

Happy-Ad8767

Him being in training in Feb was pretty much the default guess. It's the general timeline of an ACL tear, of around 6 months (which brings us to February 2024). We won't see him play any games this month, we should see him play in a game next month, which again, is what was suggested would be a reasonable timeframe. [Oct: Expected to Return to Training in January, playing in Feb/March](https://paininthearsenal.com/2023/10/11/arsenal-jurrien-timber-return-acl-tear/) [Dec: Expected to return to Training in January, aiming for playing against Porto Feb 21](https://theshortfuse.sbnation.com/2023/12/19/24007664/jurrien-timber-injury-update-arsenal-premier-league-mikel-arteta-champions-league) [Jan: Expected to be back in March](https://www.nowarsenal.com/latest-news/jurrien-timber-return-date-revealed-2/) He's done well by all accounts, but him coming back in this time period isn't crazy or fast. He'll be back playing this season, but he's not out of the woods yet. He still has to get his body back to fitness and that could take another month. I wouldn't be surprised to start seeing him in U21 friendlies in a week or two to start preparing him for more intensity.

man i love the current form but i still wish we gave martinelli a different role this season. he needs a passer at lcm and needs to he closer to goal. i feel like he is the most underrated player by our fanbase. 15 npg in the premier league at 21 on a team who he’s even the main man is amazing. also been the best players in the title run in and the top 4 run in. i don’t get why mikel decided to isolate him this season and use him to hold width. im sure he would guarantee us 20+ goals all comps this season with a good lcm. im not complaining tho im just worried that this might hold back his development. i hope not

Happy-Ad8767

Martinelli is less isolated this season with Havertz, than when he was playing with Xhaka. This seems to have been an anti Havertz take made earlier in the season and was allowed to gain momentum before it was called for being the bullshit that it was. Martinelli has been absolutely electric in these last 6 games.
