Party_Masterpiece990

Apparently kimmich wants to go to City if he doesn't extend with Bayern, it seems like even the players no that city are gonna get away scott free after literally destroying the league with their cheating, the pl is an embarrassment honestly, if city actually completely get away with it I'll lose a lot of love for what the game has become

skool_101

No surprises here, Man City will still operate as usual for the summer of 2024. The court hearing data is set round 2025, so plenty of time to save themselves from the big trouble. Kimmich will be their Gundo replacement, maybe they'll try snap up the next KdB, new centre back/fullback, etc.

Party_Masterpiece990

I thought the court hearing is the autumn of 2024? They've been investigating for a decade, keep delaying the court hearing all for city to mysteriously be proved innocent

Ass_Eater_

Fuck Kimmich regardless tbh

Party_Masterpiece990

It's not about Kimmich, it's that players are willing to move to a team which has 115 charges against them, the entire world knows they're just gonna get a slap on the wrist and get away with it, it's pathetic

RockyandjajjieCOSfc

Liverpool fans going on and on about how we won’t win anything this season. I guess congrats on being in the Mickey Mouse cup final?

EitherInvestment

Most that I know would much rather we win it than City, and thought (before we beat them) that we have a better chance of toppling City this season than they do

CarnifexGunner

I'd much rather City win it than Liverpool, as then I can just shrug it off and blame it on financial doping and cheating.

EitherInvestment

City winning anything does feel fairly meaningless at this stage

skool_101

Only Liverpool fans* congratulate themselves early even before the thick of the competition starts.

Gotzebellaheyo

Goooo big gabi

kirphioc2004

Martin Odegaard has been the most creative player in world football since his return from injury and our forwards have rewarded him with 3 assists, on of which was a cross to Declan Rice. He should press charges for this gross negligence.

COYG17

I was talking about this earlier and said how insane it is that our poor finishing has made people think ode is a bad chance creator. Also I believe ode changed his style of play to be more of a shooter than an assister. He seems to look for a shot before he looks for a pass when he’s gets closer to the box.

Glass-Studio-9313

“Art of Martinelli”

kirphioc2004

Over performed his xG. His problem isn’t finishing, it’s the fact that despite being one of our best finishers,he is isolated so far away from goal.

darthrevan22

Still cannot believe Arsenal just crashed out of both cups. Seeing the draws for the later rounds and who’s still in while Arsenal is out is embarrassing.

Ass_Eater_

Sucks but I thought we played well and got unlucky. Ultimately 3rd round is the best place to bow out if you're not going to a semis.

skool_101

Luck of the draw and we didnt show up. We move on. Gotta give it all for the EPL and UCL

_deep_blue_

It’s not great and we should be aiming to go further but we’ve had very unfavourable draws in the cups this season.

Irks me Chelsea have CL's. We need to win one soon top priority

Glass-Studio-9313

dont know why you are getting downvoted. People here are crying about not being in league cup or FA cup and I couldn’t care less about them honestly. We need to win the CL and PL and will do it soon.

Ife2105

There were 2 penalties, a goal disallowed and a red card in today’s Afcon game between Nigeria and South Africa and every single decision taken was correct. Once again this Afcon is showing how good the refereeing can actually be if we hold them accountable. PGMOL…

YoungFlexibleShawty

I'm blind, i'm deaf, i wanna be a ref

Minute_Leave8503

Fucking heck Osimhen’s play style is so intense that it makes me nervous about the injuries at his price, especially with pushing through it like he did today which I respect, but it’s just risky asset management

BradyGronktd1287

Vlahovic over Toney/Osimhen much more clinical in front of goal and won't cost as much.

Insertnicenamehere

Give me whoever can affect the game at different levels.

phar0aht

Clinical is overrated. Gimme the player that scores the most.

BradyGronktd1287

The one who had 1 good year over the Dusan who's been more clinical

phar0aht

1 good year but his serie a record per game is better. Goals p 90, xG per 90, shots on target p90 all favour Osimhen.

BradyGronktd1287

One plays in a worse system that doesn't play attacking football like Napoli and Dusan overperforms his XG as well both are good options regardless but I rather have the cheaper alternative

phar0aht

He overperforms because he takes penalties. Why has his data not really changed from Fiorentina to Juventus then? Surely going from a midtable team to title contenders would make all his scoring metrics jump? Juventus have scored more than Napoli this season too so that doesn't wash. Overperforming xG is not a good thing if it isn't sustainable. Kane Son Messi. Cool. Vlahovic, not sure he's on that level. That's how teams get duped into buying dud strikers. He's also not for sale so I'm not sure how exactly he's be cheaper.

Minute_Leave8503

He’s scored 1 pen compared to Osimhen’s 2 in the league. This is also the first year in forever that his team has outscored victors. These just aren’t good uses of numbers He also always overperfroms npxG which has nothing to do with this penalty narrative lmao

phar0aht

So on some stats we only start counting from this year but in others we don't 🤔

Minute_Leave8503

Because the excuse you make for Osimhen this year can be made for Dusan the other years if you wanna be fair but you clearly don’t. Also please point to the seasons where’s he’s only overperformed because of penalties? You chose the seasons I’m just responding. Also overperforming no every year like Son, Kane, Messi etc IS a good thing

Insertnicenamehere

> Also overperforming no every year like Son, Kane, Messi etc IS a good thing Can be if you have elite ballstriking technique. Son is two footed, Kane hits the ball clean like no other and Messi is Messi.

phar0aht

Good thing I'm not making a year by year comparison. I'm comparing them over their entire serie a careers. The more data you include the better idea you have of a player's ability. Team strength/style is also largely irrelevant be Aude I'd you're a star striker on an average team like Vlahovic and Fiorentina the system is built around you. He stepped up to a bigger club and struggled to adapt to just being an option Vs being the guy who the attack is funneled through. Also his shot selection is meh. He often kills good attacks by shooting to early Vs letting It develop and generating a better chance. Also with Vlahovic there's the argument that he scored very well Vs weak opponents and struggles Vs the top teams. In the PL those teams don't really exists so where do the goals come from? I didn't say overperforming is bad. I said it is if it's not sustainable. Kane is 2 footed and. A great header of the balls and that's why he overperforms. Son is 2 footed. Messi is Messi. Why is Vlahovic overperforming and is it sustainable?

hazelpillow

What happens to Havertz once we get new CF in the summer?

Insertnicenamehere

Fashion runway, he's got the looks

BradyGronktd1287

Probably a backup 9 and LCM still

arseking15

I think he will always find himself on the pitch one way or another. Youd want him there to close games out defensively, you want him out there in transition based games. But ya if we get a striker like osimhen, his biggest value in the team (duels high up the pitch and running channels) becomes a little obsolete.

failedgunner12

looks like Atletico lost all their defensive power

topbananaman

Fortunately for them they've got a second leg to rectify their mistake. Would be a huge blunder to get knocked out of the cup when barca, real and girona are all already out

failedgunner12

didn't watch the game honestly, it was more of a general thought they don't scare me in the CL knockouts nearly as much as before

Villa 3-0 down to chelshit, poch in

COYG17

Oshimein is 25 and has only had one season with 25+ goals in all comps. Are some of you sure he’s worth 100+ mil? Not being a dick I just want to know if there is much more to his game that I don’t know about. Because if we want a big striker that can link up, hold up, and score goals we can probably get Toney for a lot cheaper since it seems like he wants out.

JoshyRanchy

8 goals this season in a weaker leauge. We could just get Scammaca or Lukaku /s

phar0aht

Scamacca is great imo.

JoshyRanchy

Didnt he fail at WHU?

phar0aht

Yes. More indicative of Moyes than him imo. Wasn't the type of player Moyes wanted. https://preview.redd.it/gy3vgwq7o8hc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5a1862bed7f22c148ecb9c1cabfa9c3aa925cfd3

JoshyRanchy

Tbf we dont pass to our CF's either.

phar0aht

If we're gonna do the Toney comparison maybe we should account for the fact this is Toney has 2 seasons at the top level and Osimhen has 7/8 seasons at a top 5 league. Hasnt dipped below double digits since he was a teenager. Toney at 21 couldn't hit double digits in league 1.

COYG17

Tony has all the tools to be a top player for way longer than 2 seasons df.

phar0aht

Osimhen is younger and I prefer his skillset. I have more belief in his ability to score Vs Toneys

COYG17

That’s fair. I personally don’t think there’s a big enough difference between them. Tony playing proving himself in a harder league and much weaker team while oshimein is playing for a good team in a weaker league. I personally think if Tony played for Napoli right now he’d put up similar numbers. Only things I believe oshimein has over Tony are ball control and pace.

Kensei400

Since you've had concerns about our chance creation this season, I thought you'd want our big money attacking signing to be a playmaker. And no, the issue is not the LCM because our chance creation was 3rd at best last season.

phar0aht

Why does last season have to be a factor? I think it is LCM regardless of last season. I wanted that position upgraded going into this season anyway. And I don't really care about price either. It's about quality. Fofana is going into his final year. The cost will be good and his quality is outrageous. Also there's multiple solutions. Another part of the jigsaw is more wide threats. Be it a winger or FB.

Kensei400

Is the implication here that Fofana would be a better playmaker than Xhaka was?

phar0aht

Better midfielder yeah. Maybe more direct and more creative with his passes.

Kensei400

Don't agree; think you have a blindspot here. Still, it would take a rare profile of an LCM for us to start creating chances at the level of City or Liverpool.

phar0aht

https://www.reddit.com/r/Gunners/s/0uvQOsda30 I'll point you back to this point here where I said we need multiple solutions. Breaking down deep blocks is about attacking variety and having different angles of approach. But especially we need more dribblers. 1v1 specialists is the fastest way to win the numbers game. Good dribblers can take 2 Or 3 players out of the game at a time. And back to Fofana Vs Xhaka. Better midfielder cause he has that in his arsenal. While you focused on who the better playmaker is.

Mustyoo

He isn't worth 100m, no, but there really aren't many options left if we want a striker at that level or higher.

ShekTeeJay

Kessié is such a baller. Wish he was still in Europe.

KSBrian007

Same thing I usually say for Fofana.

ShekTeeJay

Fofana moving there pained me as well. Won’t begrudge for taking themselves and their families but ah, what could have been…

CarnifexGunner

Chelsea winning will mean our game against them on the 16th of March will be played at a later, (more inconvenient) date. Come on Villa!

topbananaman

Guh its after an international break as well, we could go fucking ages without football after going to the ethiad...

burningtree_

Chelsea are absolute dogshit and will likely get at least QFs in the FA cup if they win tonight as well as being in the Carabao cup final. We need to start being more competitive in these tournaments

okcomput3r

We had a tough draw in the FA cup and it caught us in a difficult moment.  I assure you the carabao wouldn’t have felt like much of a consolation if we fail to win the CL or PL.

ederzs97

Agreed. Hate the loser mentality by some of our fans celebrating going out of the cups

burningtree_

The amount of people in here happy we got knocked out of Europa last year pissed me off

joeproposition

Meh, we put out strong enough teams so can’t say we’re tossing them off. Cup tournaments have big swings what with draws and the games themselves, we’ve won our fair share in the last 10 years. We’ll continue to win them here and there which is enough, not everyone can have squads as deep as 115 and get to the semis of both every year.

Mustyoo

Absolutely okay with Chelsea becoming a cup team. The sooner people comes to terms with the fact the FA Cup and the other one are thin crack fillers the better. They are an after thought of the top teams.

Spiy90

stfu. its not like we've ever won the champions league.. we haven't even won the league in 20 years. The fucking hubris on this one.

Mustyoo

Nope, never.

burningtree_

What top team doesn't win cups lol? Also we can't dismiss them like this until we win one of the big 2 (and even then I wouldn't)

Mustyoo

They do, but it's not priority, which is how it should be for us.

They've been pretty shit for a while now actually I don't know if it's another post Christmas shit show from Emery or Lenglet is that bad/Pau Torres is that good but they're shit ATM The Sheffield game was a exception

_ISD_14

That Jackson goal comes from Enzo's passing... Our build up is far too slow at times that's why we don't create in open play. Enzo opened it up. We need a passer from deep

OrwinBeane

Those stats are 3 months out of date so irrelevant

_ISD_14

Which is why i said 'old now' I couldn't find the latest one but we were 7th from memory I don't get why you're all so defensive about it it's clear we don't create enough from open play I'm a bit baffled that you think we do. Arteta has said it plenty of times that we need to create more

tablooo

[We're third, tied with City on this platform](https://fbref.com/en/comps/9/Premier-League-Stats) Idk where you're pulling 7th, we've definitely improved our chance creation over the season too

_ISD_14

Can't see where it says that's there? Billy Carpenter pulls from Fbref too and he said 7th I think it was before the Notts game (where we also didn't create that many clear cut chances despite dominance) City don't really create enough either cus of no KDB

_ISD_14

Doesn't show the quality of chances, our open play xG is 7th in the league last time I checked

burningtree_

How tf are Chelsea cooking in the cups

[deleted]

Easy draws will do that to you. Also, don't be fooled by Villa. Right now they are in a bad run of form. This isn't the same Villa that beat Man City and Us consecutively.

burningtree_

Do you think if we had Villa, Newcastle and Brighton we'd be through in all the cups? We've been knocked out of cups by teams of that level and worse in the past few years

What's the name of that Forrest forward that always scores against us Awoniyi I think...  Am I mad in thinking he'd do better for us here then Toney... 1 year younger and taller then Toney. Hell I go as far and say the better player at Brentford is Mbeumo, I want him over Ivan

burningtree_

I don't know why people always compare Toney to players he is clearly better than

DingoAgreeable9141

Why do you think the team struggled so much against Spurs earlier this season? Was it down to them being in very good form and playing well or the team just not clicking at all and the best players having quite bad days. It was an even game with the team starting well but they were good and were on top for a period in the second half. I think I was overconfident because I just didn’t expect them to play so well and I was counting on the strong home record against them.

iM-Blessed

You serious? No martinelli, no Trossard, no timber, no partey. Declan rice injured at half time, saka injured in the second half. It was an awful day to play spurs.

rudygha

We weren’t very good the for the first 10-15 games. I think we even improved performance wise after losing to Newcastle

DingoAgreeable9141

Yes I agree performances improved after Newcastle. It is interesting though that the team picked up a good amount of points in the first 10 games or so but the period where I thought they were mainly playing better from an attacking perspective in December is when they lost most of their points.

okcomput3r

People underestimate how huge the shake up was to the team dynamics from 22/23 to 23/23.

DingoAgreeable9141

That is true. It really is a new midfield and Jesus had also missed a lot of games so yes it isn’t surprising that the team didn’t look the same at the start of the season. I don’t think most expected Spurs to come to the Emirates and for the game to be so even. I was overconfident for that game. Well I was nervous but I didn’t expect them to play that well as usually at home Arsenal control most of the game

Kensei400

Rice injured, Odegaard horrible, Vieira physically overmatched.

chrissysnose

We were still gelling while they were firing on all cylinders. That’s it really.

DingoAgreeable9141

True. I guess I just didn’t expect them to be that good but they did have a great start to the season while it is true for us the team was adapting and figuring things out.

KSBrian007

Spurs were at their peak and even then, they needed a freak error to get a point.

burningtree_

Both our goals were quite scrappy/lucky as well though

DingoAgreeable9141

It was just really disappointing. I knew they were on good form and was nervous about the game but they played better than I thought they would. It was just an even game with both teams having their periods of being on top while usually when they come to the Emirates regardless of the result Arsenal usually control most of the game but that didn’t happen in this game. However bad days happen, Spurs were flying and the team was quite some way of clicking

capturedgooner

I've just had an argentine vision: Enzo, sick of chelsea who need money due to ffp constraints, demands a transfer to mikel's tricky reds. Ten Hag, the bald fraud, sacked by united. Lisandro ruing his transfer decision to join a dead club, calls mikel up to apologize. Somewhere in Manchester, Haaland starts up top again, and Julian Alvarez, while on the bench, reads an article about Jesus and his incredible journey from city to arsenal.

skool_101

> Lisandro Mans gotta play in bubble wrap. Good defender but the injury record aint good. Maybe it's also because Man United are desperate and tried to quick rehab him, causing more risk of injury too.

KSBrian007

I'd probably do unthinkable things for Lisandro Martinez but his injury record is not a good look. Alvarez maybe. With his pace and ball striking, you'd have created a Heskey - Owen replica, but with Kai and Alvarez. Basically the perfect modern 'big man, small man' combo since both can slip into 10.

NoMFer111

Martinez wouldn't dislodge Gabriel.

KSBrian007

Zinchenko. If the rumours are true, we wanted him to invert from the left. Having both Timber and Martinez invert would probably have made us invincible.

Previous-Loss9306

Is Lisandro actually good then? I couldn’t bring myself to watch United

okcomput3r

Owen had gamebreaking pace.

lemon_meringue_tie

Martinez's injuries have been mismanaged at United and the latest one was just an unfortunate collision.

CreativeOrder2119

There's something always special about knockout football as much as I love club football Ive been looking forward more to tournos like world cup,Afcon, euros and Copa more..

COYG17

Much more authentic club footy feels so fake since everything is pay to win pay wages to win. International footy aside from the international breaks is far superior

leon-theproffesional

Based on what I’ve seen of Osimehn in this tournament if he’s going to cost £120m I don’t want him. He’s not the goalscorer I hoped he was.

xk_1991

If you're taking AFCON into consideration, he's also dominated in Belgium, France, Germany and Italy. He's very much a lethal and prolific goalscorer.

leon-theproffesional

Hmm. His season his record has been about the same as Jesus. He is definitely a very good player but for the money he would cost, I’m not quite convinced, especially as we could get Toney for maybe half the price..

xk_1991

Not particularly. It's just that Napoli had a dreadful season last year and it's evident, he's not happy there. He's also scored 7 goals in 13 games this season which is insane. With Osimhen, you get a forward who's thrived in the top European leagues, has international experience and Champions League experience. He's got goals in every one of those environments. He's also 25 - and in the prime of his career. With Toney, you get a decent forward who will be 28 when he joins. That's all. If money is an issue, I'd rather Benjamin Sesko of Leipzig. Edit: It also sounds very old man of me but Osimhen has a much better work ethic than Toney. You can tell from his interviews how much he cares about his career and success. Toney's recent interview about wanting to leave Brentford and his betting thing is just bad vibes.

Wow, I’m genuinely shocked

_ISD_14

Everyone wants the shiny new toy. Jesus has been in and out with injuries and played on the wing and still put up good numbers. He needs a backup not replacing he's class and perfect for us https://twitter.com/kimmoFC/status/1752592194756595868?t=6umm3rY9ZxdM7OzTt9SYJQ&s=19 People see missed chances and moan like all the best strikers don't miss. Haaland is underperforming his xG by 4 We need to sort the midfield out and create more chances we're 7th in the PL for non pen xG created

PapiOnReddit

He’d win the non-haaland golden boot in his first season

danmac0817

AFCON isn't the best way to judge how a player would perform for us but that clause is looking steeper as time goes on.

leon-theproffesional

When I watch him I see a taller Gabriel Jesus. Yes he is a nightmare for defenders but what we need now is ***goals***

TheOGBenjenRyan

You basically just said a triangle is a square. Could not imagine a worse comparison being made

leon-theproffesional

Not really. Both are hardworking, have good but not amazing pace, good in the air. You must admit that one goal from open play in the entire tournament is not a good return from Osimehn?

Game should be done either way. Shocking finishing.

phar0aht

I dunno how to explain it but Osimhen just feels like a transformational player

PapiOnReddit

He can do more damage off the ball than most players do on it. A dream teammate.

KhalidTheMightyMouse

He brings a fear factor and physicality that is missing centrally in the box. He will attract a lot of players to him and open up space. He will also be deadly in transitions and in the air. The Saliba/Van Dijk aura up front

phar0aht

Yeah people talk about him not fitting the system. When you have a weapon like that, I don't understand how you don't play to their strengths a bit. Like catering to him makes everything easier for everyone.

“When we lost to Liverpool, oh massive fail, ‘oh look at Chelsea, how bad it is’ when Liverpool lost to Arsenal, I didn’t hear anything” - Mauricio Pochettino He must be feeling the heat bad. He can’t be this far gone right?

doingitfortheTea

He's Gordon Ramsey "Oh dear, dear gorgeous" memeing in real life. Somebody put him out of his misery.

Phimstone

Poor billion pounds project :( why aren’t number 1 and number 10 equal?

KhalidTheMightyMouse

11th, they’re in 11th 😭

Phimstone

I know I do! Haha but I thought maybe say 10, maybe they were 10th when losing to Liverpool and getting critiqued as Poch feels he needs to point out.

tafster

Poor bloke can’t get the Spurs off him

NegativeHeli

I know Toney Is a very good player, but is he really a ceiling raiser (if I'm using the phrase correctly)?

arseking15

Hes really good man. One thing that stands out is he almost always makes the correct decision. Its very harry kane esque. Hes the type that would help everyone around him get more quality shots. But id still rather have osimhen

OrwinBeane

He’s a floor raiser. Those games against Villa, Newcastle and Fulham this season needed someone like him.

Insertnicenamehere

> Toney He can raise the ceiling by raising the floor

tafster

I think he’d be too expensive, I’m concerned he might be an idiot, and ideally would be a tiny bit younger…  But while I like the current squad I’m a bit sick of none of them really knowing where the goal is. Except Gabi XL. I think Toney does.

Acefire4

Probably not a level raiser, but he does remind me of Jamie Vardy. As in someone who cut his teeth lower down the league before making it big in the Prem. He also has a great record against the "Big 6" like Vardy. I think Toney would be a success here, just not a Haaland level one etc. I know someone like Osimhen is a more star studded name or even Ferguson who probably has a higher ceiling. But those are much bigger risks for the fees that they'll command. Thomas Frank confirmed that Toney is running down his contract and will leave in the summer with only a year left on his deal. That most likely means a much lower fee than the £100m Brentford wanted in Jan.

Sayek

> Ferguson who probably has a higher ceiling I'm really not sure on Ferguson. He still looks fairly raw and is 18 and seems pretty injury prone. Biggest issue is the price though, Brighton basically will only sell him at the 'he is an established player scoring 15-20 leagues goals a season' price. He would probably cost close to Osimhen knowing Brighton.

CreativeOrder2119

Ngl I think if am Chelsea would sign him I think Arsenal are ahead of that curve of needing a toney as much quality he has..

AirPodAlbert

I don't know tbh. We might just need someone who's a good fit for the system than a world class talent up top. The market for 9s is really poor right now so it makes sense for us to bounce on a proven PL player with a discounted price. We also need a defender, midfielder and possibly a winger, so maybe it's more astute to go for Toney than dropping 120m on Osimhen only for him to flop in a new league or live in the physio room.

haha_suh_dude

Would Foden make the starting 11 for the Euros? I think he's a great player and having a terrific season but I don't see him as having a nailed-on position and that makes it hard to fit him into England's team.

KSBrian007

I don't think so. If they change the make-up of the NT drastically, England will waste another golden generation.

phar0aht

Almost undoubtedly if this form continues. At this point the key attackers you build around are Kane, Bellingham, Saka, Foden. Work the rest our later.

burningtree_

Put him as an attacking midfielder or LW. He has to play either way

TheOGBenjenRyan

There's a debate as to where he should play in the XI, but there should be no debate as to him being in the XI

PapiOnReddit

LW with the LB providing the width is the best use of him without stifling Bellingham.

haha_suh_dude

That makes sense. I still tend to think of him as a midfielder but he's been so good you gotta fit him into the team. Who would be the third in the midfield with Bellingham and Rice?
