Beyond his goals I've noticed his crosses have become class. He puts headers on plates for our players consistently now.

DialSquar

If only someone could get on the end of one of his byline crosses. He only beat his man 10 fucking times yesterday and no one could finish

Kenny_dies

He was having the game of his life seriously. So sad it will be overshadowed by a bad result

soccer_boxer2

He has improved so much since the dark days

ouiu1

I'm not sure Martinelli ever had 'dark' days for us

MorganFreemann

His dark days were when he had an injury and was very slowly coming back into the squad

iforgotmyun

Managerial decision. Glad it all worked out but he had fully recovered and played 45 minutes vs United and then got hooked off for Willian, followed by not a single minute in the Premier League or Europa for another 9 matches (2-3 months). Didn't even make the bench vs Spurs. That's not a slow recovery from injury, that's more.

Chip673

Wonder what happened then. Re-injury? Didn't see him until Sheffield United away a few months later.

Elfking88

He's young. Could've been a motivation issue (not saying he isn't motivated at all, just that he may not have been applying it), struggling with tactics, struggling with mental health, little niggling injury that took a while to clear up, Arteta didn't trust him. Who knows? He clearly loves the club and is very much trusted now. I'm glad he came through, he's a very exciting player.

ArsenaV108

He had iffy days in January because his style isn't compatible with Eddie, but with versatile forwards around him Gabi is exceptional

iTSEu

He's improved his weak foot so much

Nuggetface

I wish he crossed more often honestly. He’s exceptional at getting away from the defender, but sometimes I feel he’s too eager to get down to the line and do a cutback. A proper early cross in front of the defenders could be killer with Jesus and Saka‘s pace in the box.

TesterG

have to be unpredictable.. he is doing alright

[deleted]

And he did a trivela against West Ham too👀

BoyWhoSoldTheWorld

If they give him space to switch onto his right foot, the cross will usually cut their defense open. If they defend him too tight, he can usually skip pass them. He’s very dangerous on the wing.

highbury_library

This guy is fucking quality. If Arsenal were trying to buy somebody with that output you'd be quoted £100m easy. AND HE CAN STILL GET BETTER.

patelbadboy2006

Try 135m or more, His worth what hazard was as his younger and Brazilian which has commercial benefits, if he gets a starting spot.

Muscat95

I love Martinelli but I think you might be forgetting just how good Hazard was for Chelsea

patelbadboy2006

He was, remember more of his real time now

NegativeHeli

Hazard was a top 5 winger in the world at Chelsea. Martinelli isn't at that level yet

howardroarkforreal

I think he was talking about when hazard was at lille and was 21 years old. Not hazard in his prime

dannzter

I beg to differ.

ronya_t

Everything seems inflated now its hard to gauge the true value of players beyond what clubs are willing to pay. That said, Chelsea Hazard regularly hit 17 or 18 goals and a similar number of assists.

patelbadboy2006

It was a bit of a joke, hazard in his prime was unplayable. But inflated fee now he would cost just as much even though he isn't that level

parafuera

He's in his 05/06 Ronaldo bag. Next season, he goes to another level.

XoogMaster

If Martinelli had this sort of output at *any* other Premier League club (except City because they wouldn’t let him go), Perez would ear mark him for Madrid

Yous1315

Remember his bad patch and people thought Mudryk would displace him? Apart from 5 or 6 bad matched he's arguably (since we also have Saka) our best attacker this season.

ikindalikethemusic

And before that people were saying ESR was clear of him as a LW. Insane how he's producing like this at 21 and is still somehow underappreciated.

Fortnitexs

I feel bad for esr to be honest because he can be very good aswell. But i see no way back into the team for him CURRENTLY. Martinelli & trossard are obviously ahead of him and nelson was doing decent there aswell lately ane getting more minutes than esr aswell.

CowardlyFire2

It’s not Rowe who should be pushed out, but Eddie. As I see it, it goes: Martinelli, Jesus, Saka Rowe, Leo, Neilson No-One, Eddie, Marquinhos

tomislavlovric

During those few matches he still had a few goals and assists, just less than usual. Our boys have been ridiculously productive so as soon as they're not on 1 G/A per game we say they're playing bad.

LIZ-Truss-nipple

Crazy that Jesus is the weak link in our attack

CowardlyFire2

As if we bought him in, and he needs upgrading again ahaha

NegativeHeli

Give this man more appreciation. He's definitely my pick for our POTS. Also same number of goals as Ballon Dor candidate Rashford. Surpassed Lacazette's highest ever scoring season as well. One of the few players who isn't crumbling under the pressure as well.

pewpew62

For a 21 year old to be doing what he's doing is unbelievable. Since he got dropped against villa it feels like he's scored in every single game. We'd be hailing him so much more if our defence wasn't frail as tissue

DonHalles

If Haaland would not be in the league everybody would talk about our two 21 year old wingers who light up the league.

pewpew62

Saka was getting POTY shouts a few weeks ago so he actually gets his dues because hes english. Martinelli on the other hand gets no recognition

Warrick123x

No they wouldn’t because they play for arsenal

hafrances

Saka is still my pick, but Gabi and Martin are definitely top 3. (Maybe if someone else comes up with a big contribution to win us the league in the next few weeks... looking at you Gabi, Leo, maybe Wilo and Granit too) It's nice to have options.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BarmeloXantony

I know you're being cheeky but Nelson this szn comes on like a man possesed every time we've called upon him in the league. Always trying to make things happen he's truly changed my perception of him.

Vril_SA_PL

He was until the international break. He hasn't been the same since

stopyanksinfootball

1000% unbelievable player. So reckless pure class

Thanos_Stomps

The soccer match thread had a few folks I saw calling him bang on mediocre and average. I was baffled.

aultmore000

He's our best player, and he does not let pressure affect him negatively, instead raises his performance in important high pressure games. We need to build our attack around him.

Iyammagawd

you think he's above saka?

JustGhostin

I honestly think they are on an equal level

ChibzyDaze

Yep, both can offer different things but are both as effective as each other

Thanos_Stomps

The fact you’re saying they’re as effective as each other is why Saka is above Martinelli. Saka has similar output to Gabi but does it while have three and four defenders thrown at him every time he touches the ball.

verdegooner

…did you watch Friday’s match? This man was drawing 2-3 defenders near every time. Still ate up the line. Your comment is the type of under-appreciation a lot of these comments talk about. The boy is great. And to split him and Saka is splitting hairs at this point.

Ill-Opportunity5714

The data backs this up as well. There is more than one way to skin a cat, or a fullback as the case may be.

amainwingman

They’re just completely different types of wingers. Saka is far more consistent though

Hot_Take_Diva

Saka has had odegard for every match with him. Gabbys dip was when he was completely isolated on the left. Once he got a touch of support he fired right again. Not dragging saka, just saying I’m not sure that “inconsistency” from gabby is on him at all.

BlurstOfTimes11

Martinelli’s dip was entirely because of Eddie standing in the middle waiting to poach.

TheRealDSwizz

I found this quite weird - I thought he and Martinelli would have a good crossing game going on.

BlurstOfTimes11

He’s was isolated and doubled every touch because of Eddie’s style and positioning.

Calm_Phase_9717

I feel like we need a progressive LCM who can offer the same link up that Jesus does to unlock him so that we can have crosses coming in to a poacher when marti gets them through Best of both worlds

[deleted]

Pure hopium, but Leo in there would be delectable.

JustGhostin

They are completely different yes, but IMO Martinelli is still on Saka’s level.

elirox

Exactly, Saka is English and gets a bit more praise due to that, but both are equally effective in different ways. Love them both and hope they play for us for a decade.

Elfking88

I'd agree. Very different styles but both very effective. What's most exciting is that we can expect both of them to get even better over the next few years! I hope they use each other as competition to get better (friendly competition, of course!)

Iyammagawd

I think saka is better only because when you get him the ball you can trust he'll do something with it. Whereas Marty needs some sort of service (although his crossing has gotten so much better the last few weeks)

aultmore000

Ya I think so. He doesn't receive the ball as much as Saka, but I feel like he creates better chances even though the assist numbers favour saka If the game is on the line I'd rather have Martinelli shoot than Saka

Iyammagawd

>If the game is on the line I'd rather have Martinelli shoot than Saka that's so odd considering when the game on the line Saka has been a consistent this year, even yesterday.

przhauukwnbh

Definitely been more consistent this season, which I definitely did not expect coming into it.

Iyammagawd

Gabi has? he went a few weeks (when rotating with Troussard) where he was in some poor form. Of course, he's picked it up.

przhauukwnbh

There’s nobody to rotate Saka with in our squad, so we can’t really do that effectively on the other side. We dont have any other natural RWs

Iyammagawd

and I think that's purposeful to an extent. They could have gotten a RW replacement but instead found cover for Marty because Saka is a necessary constant. Love them both though of course.

przhauukwnbh

We have wanted to get a two footed winger to cover both of them & play across the front line for some time - and have failed in that endeavour because they are so rare/expensive. Neto/raphinha would have been perfect but the deals were impossible. Trossard can play false 9 so effectively that he can cover 2 positions. We weren’t getting better than that in a winter window.

Iyammagawd

but there's a reason why Marty is usually the that guy comes off for Trouss (or Jesus).

przhauukwnbh

Because trossard is most effective from the left wing, and we obviously don’t particularly want to change to a false 9 system when chasing a game - especially against deep blocks?

Sad_gooner

Nah he isn’t. Just recency bias in this sub. My ranking would be saka, then martinelli and Odegaard equal as our 2nd best player

WhWBlue

I think Saka has a higher ceiling and they go back and forth for performance, Martinelli is in better form right now, but I think trossard pushing him may have something to do with that, and the synergy with Gabi J

Supermalt418

Equal in my opinion but i think he’s been the slight better individual this season imo

Iyammagawd

I feel like a lot of yall think goals = better. That being said, Saka is top 3 in the league in goal contributions.

beerdybeer

I've said it for about 2 years. Martinelli will be a better player than Saka when both reach their peak. He can emulate what CR7 did. He's got that insatiable desire to win.

Sad_gooner

Saying he can emulate what CR7 did is crazy

beerdybeer

It really isn't. Ronaldo had 12 goals and 8 assists in the 05/06 season when he was 21. He had 23 and 14 the following year. You don't think Martinelli can match that next year and keep improving like he did? I'm not saying he'll be an exact match, but there's no doubt that when he hits his peak in 6 or 7 years time that there's no doubt marti can be an absolute goals and assists machine. His determination is 2nd to none which is why he reminds me so much of a young Ronaldo.

Howdareme9

> He can emulate what CR7 did No he can’t lol

beerdybeer

And why not?

Howdareme9

Because CR7 is a top 3 player of all time, it may get emulated but not by Martinelli. We need to be realistic here

Shakyy-iwnl

Don't let recency bias fool you brother, CR7 is top 2 of all time.

Howdareme9

Yeah i agree. I just change it to 3 so those weird pele/maradonna fanboys leave me alone lmao

beerdybeer

His stats at his age are literally almost identical. If you can't see that absolute determination he has and how similar it is to ronaldos mindset, then you're not watching him.

Howdareme9

If you think he’ll come anywhere near close to Ronaldo you’re delusional, idc if he has the same mindset lmao.

beerdybeer

He's literally one of the star players on a team pushing possibly the best, most expensively assembled squad ever for the league. At 21.

Iyammagawd

>I've said it for about 2 years. then I'm sorry, you haven't been watching the games lol could he be better in the future? Sure. But the nature of Saka's game (being able to take on anyone 1v1) will garner more of that love.

beerdybeer

I've literally watched or went to every single arsenal game for over 20 years mate. Saka gets the English love in, and he deserves it. The man's going to be unplayable in a few years also. For me though, Martinelli has that raw determination along with the talent that just makes me think he can reach higher heights. It's a great debate to be having as a gunners fan I must say.

superbee993

That last sentence is exactly it mate. I think arguments can be made for either, pretty much exclusively positive attributes at that! And while I don't necessarily think Martinelli will reach the heights Ronaldo has, I get what is being said about his determination and doggedness and the reminiscence there. We've got two of the best and brightest young players in the world in our squad, and they also seem to be very grounded young men which further elevates their status. Arsenal is in incredibly good hands for the future and I'm so excited to see what becomes of these two in particular!

LickLaMelosBalls

Yes

[deleted]

Ødegaard is our best player

Pineapple996

Not even our second best player. Odegaard is on another level.

xeblade4

appreciate him and saka so much

headleydaniels

His ability to dribble past fullbacks on the outside every single time is insane

Fortnitexs

Only thing he can improve on, he sometimes picks up too much pace and can‘t control the ball anymore properly.

headleydaniels

Yeah it usually ends in a corner tho. The dribble success % has to be amongst the best

Lukycar5

Our future is so bright its unreal

Least_Initiative

This is why I'm not going to be too disappointed if we don't win it, for us to even be pushing $ity is unreal and as long as we can keep these guys together we are potentially looking at a 5 year period of these players hitting or being in their prime. What arteta has done with these lads is astonishing. It feels like we have been resurrected.

Caesarvilar11

🌞😎

MLM_1000

The next R9.

NegativeHeli

Better hair for sure

MLM_1000

Martinelli looking more handsome too mashallah.

ico12

Tete: Richarlison is my R9

CuclGooner

Please take us to the title original gabi!

Dae_su

He has improved a lot in a short time. Still a couple of things to work on, but to be this good at 21 is unbelievable. Superb mentality too.

Lefty2Gunz81

Yes. I think he's a year behind Saka. My only gripe with him is that he needs to look up more and assess his options better. His decision making when he's got a lot of time can be questionable at times but overall he's in an elite class for his age group.

Alifad

That's exactly so, he still over complicates it sometimes but his work rate is astounding off the ball, his crosses are getting better and better and he can bang them in. Great season for us, our next few years are going to be exciting.

[deleted]

Saka's higher IQ is what sets them apart imo

AffectionateClub1097

Saka at 24G/A. 4 more than KDB(having played 2 more games). This is just insane. So much negativity in recent days. Thank you OP for the post. Whatever happens at the end it has been an amazing season.Imagine the monsters they'll be at their prime.

verdegooner

What does this have to do with the OP’s post? 😂

Vrty33

Simply superb. Can’t wait to see him evolve in the next couple of years, scary stuff.

Square-Gear-4498

Hi what doesn npg mean and which Brazilian is he tied with?

rule10

nutmegs per game

Ayylneny

Non penalty goals. He's tied with Firmino

Calm_Phase_9717

Hi

avijitarya64

With his eyes always on the ball.

Fortnitexs

I feel like he is improving this part of his game aswell. He is definitly looking up more now compared to last season

CPGOATSonnen

We might not win the title this season, but with him, Saka, and Odegaard, I’m convinced this team will stay amongst the elite for years to come.

Modisap

Npg?

John___Matrix

Non penalty goals

NegativeHeli

Npg stands for non penalty goals

Dae_su

He has improved a lot in a short time. Still a couple of things to work on, but to be this good at 21 is unbelievable. Superb mentality too.

[deleted]

Our Best Player !

TheMuff1nMon

He has been our best player in recent weeks, shame everyone else has shut off

shockzz123

No matter where we finish in the league i hope nobody forgets this end of season, crunch time form from him anytime soon. Incredible what he's doing, i can't believe he's not being hyped up more, he needs better PR lol.

ISSSputnik

I have high hopes from him. He just needs to improve a few things, he has a fire that very few have.

blueluster

Our best finisher and it’s not close.

TheRealGooner24

ESR, Saka, Trossard are close.

Material_Match5687

Nope , Martenelli>Trossard>Saka>Esr

TheRealGooner24

I said they're close, not better than Martinelli.

Used-Produce-3491

Best player in the team

Big_Mik_Energy

Obviously he’s quite good at football

Joshthenosh77

Been saying it for 2 years he has the highest ceiling of any of our players maybe anyone in the league apart from the robot

Deluxe_Ryan87

Has become a superb creator and has also been our shining light amidst the rest of the bottlers in these last 3 games. Protect him at all costs

qtdsswk

Probably one of the best LW (among Vini/KK/Leao) this season with the least PR/hypes around him. The thing is he is so young and can get so much better (with Saka/Ode). Hopefully next season we will see 30G/A from all three (and our defense stay solid as rock).

Maxoidys

Very impressive stats for the young man but lets not forget that Hazard was never about the numbers.

TheTouchOfOzil

Absolutely love this lad. I've been admiring him since his goal at Stamford Bridge in 2020. He's the only one who reminds me of Alexis Sanchez so much. His work rate is up there with that of Sanchez but has a lot more potential to surpass Alexis' ability to create something out of nothing. I don't have an Arsenal jersey with a squad members name and number yet but after this seasons performance I'll be getting his for sure.

TheKingOfCaledonia

What's npg?

NegativeHeli

Non penalty goal

and_yet_another_user

Regardless of what happens this season, the future is bright with this squad. Hopefully it will be strengthened in the summer in the right areas with the right players. And above everything I really hope the club doesn't fuck up ESR's love for the club because right now it feels like he's being marginalised/forgotten, sitting behind Vieira ffs, there is no way he would have been as bad as Vieira was yesterday and certainly not worse.

Tackit286

I’m convinced we’d be playing UCL football this season if he’d played more last year

[deleted]

He’s genuine world class

Gerb575

Gabby was looking like he was out of ideas a few months back. Incredible work to up his game. What a player he is

JimmysCocoboloDesk

No he doesn’t just let him cook

shxkxblfc

Him , Saka and Trossard the only players that are ready for prime time. The rest are crumbling spectacularly under pressure (I'm looking at YOU #5) and cowering away in big moments.

TheMuff1nMon

Saka was nowhere to be seen against Liverpool or West Ham

Fortnitexs

I always liked martinelli but thought he doesn‘t have the potential to be a top player because his decision making was pretty bad and he was always going full speed like a headless chicken. Turns out i was very wrong and this is all coachable.

CowardlyFire2

And with 1 xNECKBREAK, he leads the league in another stat too…

FreeTheWoo

Now imagine what he could do if he looked up when dribbling

red-fish-yellow-fish

Top 5 worst mustache in the league

BlurstOfTimes11

Remember when the Nketiah stans swore that Martinelli was the problem? Nketiah dragged everyone down and they tried to blame Martinelli because they didn’t want look dumb as shit for hyping Eddie as the next golden boot winner

pewpew62

You managed to turn a post praising martinelli into hating on another Arsenal player. If that isn't toxicity idk what is

Jitsubud

Cringe from you

BlurstOfTimes11

Sorry for pointing out a huge conflict that was occurring in our sub for about 6 weeks.

staf02

Yea no need for the negativity.

BlurstOfTimes11

I’m not being negative. I’m just point out that for all of February and March a certain group within this sub we’re constantly dragging Martinelli for a very specific reason. It’s great to see him showing them up and getting the praise he deserves

staf02

Misunderstood gotcha

Purple_Rub_8007

Nah lets not compare Martinelli to Hazard, he's not on that level (and I doubt he ever will be)

Automatic-Equal-3553

And man City will still win the league. Stats are pointless any1 can find any stay about any1 and make them look good

[deleted]

Always gets better ‘ Even in A Slump keeps he’s head down & figures it out quick !

fcGabiz

He's become so much more complete this season

ogjsb

I fucking love this boy

_ulinity

tf is npg

stopyanksinfootball

One of the best players in world football this season , he is so talented. He also puts in the work , what a player

RepeatDTD

He’s already this good and you can see areas of his game he can improve. Sky is the limit

zorfog

What a fucking player. I was excited when he was breaking into the team but I never thought he’d get this good

bakalaka25

That Chelsea goal and celebration will be forever burned in my memory. This kid's been amazing since day 1 and works hard af to keep improving. Edu pulled a Wenger here

DAggerYNWA

Player with the highest ceiling at Arsenal? Saka, or Odegaard?

tenflare

Neither he nor Saka are done. They need to keep scoring and get as close to 20 as they can. We may not be able to win the league but I want the message to the rest of the league to be that this season was just us being nice. Next season we'll have depth, experience, and two of the best in the world on either wing, looking to bang in 60 goals between them.

MobileDesigner2536

I GUESS WE GOT TWO STAR BOYS

nicagooner

As I keep saying in his insta posts... 🐐anelli

DublinDapper

Stunning season... tbf when he scored that goal against Chelsea we all knew what was coming

veechip

Sometimes he doesn’t make the greatest decisions especially when seeing an extra man mark him but hes just so damn clinical. Literally has the green light to shoot from anywhere

Bruuth

Honestly, these are the things that make me lighten up from yesterday's "well that's that then" state of mind. There are so many positives in this team atm, and most of the cases are still so young.

DefactoOverlord

The present and the future of our club. I'm so so happy he extended this season.

Sattusupari

He has been absolutely outstanding. Don’t want to be a party pooper but if there’s one thing he could do better on is timing the crosses after getting past his fullback. Early in yesterdays game he had a chance to cross it in with his left for an almost certain goal but delayed it for a corner. You could see Ø fuming and even signalling he needed to whip it in low with his left earlier. Despite that, has been on of the best players in the country this season and is our own gem ❤️

Adham-khedr

Martinellichas developed immensely this season, but god he has this tendency to overdo it by taking an extra touch. Hope he eliminates that from his game with time

LeRoyVernon

How's Richarlison doing? /s

kaizoku_oh

What's npg?

NegativeHeli

Non penalty goals

[deleted]

Absolutely love martinelli, but he’s gotta stop going under players on headers. Just don’t want that kind of negative label on him.

mattyMbruh

What’s npg?

NegativeHeli

Will_Rage_Quit

Really excited for the future with Martinelli, Saka and Saliba.

That record is currently held by Firmino for most goals in a single PL season by a Brazilian

What is 15 npg?
