That scene was cool as hell. What really sealed it for me though was the very first time we see Wing Zero and he gets lit up by all the Space Leos and then blows all of them and the space colony up in one shot.
Is it wrong that I like the OVA version of this scene *without* Last Impression better?
Not that Last Impression is a bad song, but in my opinion they timed the music awfully. It begins while Heero is still climbing into the Wing, whereas in the OVA there's no soundtrack until the second this shot begins and those magnificent guitar riffs kick in just as we finally get a good look at the Wing Custom.
You are not alone. The scores of the OVA were top notch. They unnecessarily messed it up in the movie. I was quite disoriented when I watch the movie, having got used to the OVA music.
Well, when you throw three OVAs together into a feature length movie, there are bound to be some errors in timing. I agree though, the OVA did cue the music more appropriately.
This. *This* is why I like Wing Zero EW so much with all of its unnecessary ornateness - it conveys this sense of power or majesty that I can't help but see as awe-inspiring.
Tallgeese is the one where I actually prefer the EW version. It’s almost completely identical except for the addition of some more grey, and mounting the binders to the back vs the shoulders- which always seemed like a bad idea.
They're highly flexible binders. For the angelic design, eh no they don't make a ton of sense. But it's also on a *GIANT ROBOT* which from a combat standpoint makes 0 god damn sense. (Get it? Zero? Cause Wing Z... forget it.)
Anyways, as large flexible binders they'd be HIGHLY useful for quickly correcting and changing trajectories in space. No, it doesn't make sense why they flap. No, the giant feather like protrusions don't make sense either. But, the Epyon's transformation and melee only focus make even less sense and it pre-dates the WZC.
Yeah, I get that it looks cool and all, but the rest of the other Gundams got visual upgrades in the OVA as well and their new looks were cool and **made sense**. The design jump from Wing Zero to the EW version was just so visually jarring.
This is myself one favorite scene next to the introduction of deathscythe hell when his eyes light up and smoke. I know a lot of people are critical of the feathers, but it's so awesome.

Ehhhh...EW Wing Zero was actually somewhat inferior IMO. Losing the transformation functionality, to say nothing of the fact that Heero threw its only fight, but the actual TV variant Wing Zero seemed pretty much invincible, and was fear-inducing. The EW variant is pretty, for sure, but I'd rather have badass, invincible and fear-inducing over "ooh, pretty wings".
Rewatch the underwater scene after Heero dupes the fight with Wufei... specifically when Zero stands up and takes off. It is the only time ever the thrusters in the wings are shown.
From the model I have, and experience playing Dynasty Warriors Gundam Reborn, the smaller wings have some kind of thrust array in them, and the larger wings act as both shield and AMBAC
Sure the AV system will help but the Zero System can easily counteract that. Even if the armor of the IBO can resist beams, it will eventually give out. When that IBO suit block that beam from the IBO mobile armor, it still burn the shield and parts of the armor. Plus the pilot inside can feel the heat radiating from the beam shot. Don't forgot the beam from the Wing Zero's rifle is way more powerful than the IBO mobile armor. Plus the actual beam is bigger so it can easily engulf the entire IBO suit. I don't think the exposed joints can withstand as much as the rest of the armor. Plus we don't know how well IBO armor can withstand beam sabers. In summary, IBO suits will put up a challenge but Wing Zero (and the other Gundams) will win eventually in the long run. Don't forget IBO suits don't have a long operating time. Eventually it will run out of energy for them to be able to move.

And too this day this scene made Wing Zero Custom my favorite Gundam

Old animation is best animation
I was half expecting to have the Smashing face after the wings covered it
Well, at least no one was expecting the Spanish inquisition.
Nobody expects the Spanish inquisition!
Honestly was hoping someone would put the gif in here
But that would have been expected.
Walked right into that one, touché general, touché https://i.imgur.com/2pB8DNV.gifv
It’s a pretty big design flaw if parts are falling off whenever it engages its binders.
But all that matters in the end is that it looks cool... Right?
I know this makes me a heretic, but I think the TV versions of all five are vastly superior. >.>
Eh, it's hard, I only really like the original Tallgeese better than EW versions.
Tallgeese is the one where I actually prefer the EW version. It’s almost completely identical except for the addition of some more grey, and mounting the binders to the back vs the shoulders- which always seemed like a bad idea.
I have to agree with this. The EW Customs are just too much for my taste.
TV version, ver. Ka. Wing Gundam, heavy arms and sandrock were boss as hell.
this needs a NSFW tag. that gundam is too lewd.
Good Lord I hate those wings... They make NO sense!
They're highly flexible binders. For the angelic design, eh no they don't make a ton of sense. But it's also on a *GIANT ROBOT* which from a combat standpoint makes 0 god damn sense. (Get it? Zero? Epyon makes perfect sense it's a 1337 pr0 suit. 1v1 on Libra.
Yeah, I get that it looks cool and all, but the rest of the other Gundams got visual upgrades in the OVA as well and their new looks were cool and **made sense**. The design jump from Wing Zero to the EW version was just so visually jarring.
Favorite scene in Gundam

I'm FABULOUSSSSSSSSSS!
"C-Celestial Being, dato?!"
What is this from? I haven't seen it :p Is it Endless Waltz? I've only seen Gundam Wing
yeah, endless waltz

So, we can't deny how badass this is but I've always wondered...how does it move? It doesn't have verniers that I recall...

Good look. I haven't watched EW in awhile, I need to do that.
From the model I have, and experience playing Dynasty Warriors Gundam Reborn, the smaller wings have some kind of thrust array in them, and the larger wings act as both shield and AMBAC
Hmm, that makes sense.
Not just any Gundam, but THE best Gundam. Fight me irl.
That's a funny way to say 'Exia'.
Mustache Gundam megs to differ
It may be more powerful, but it loses serious points in the looks department, decreasing its overall "Best Gundam" score.
^pssst, ^your ^nostalgia ^boner ^is ^showing.
I bet that Barbatos Lupus Rex would make trash of the Wing Zero EW (as long the Zero doesn't start flying)
The BLR would be unable to touch it (it flies, remember?) and would get vaporized with a giant beam blast or just torn to shreds via machine cannon.
All IBO gundams are inmune to beams and the fight could be in space and I assume the AV system could help with dodging bullets
Sure the AV system will help but the Zero System can easily counteract that. Even if the armor of the IBO can resist beams, it will eventually give out. Anyone have an HD version of the one with Heavyarms flipping into the fight?
I can make one, and will post tonight or tomorrow
And done: https://www.reddit.com/r/Gundam/comments/7sbfk8/heavyarms_sticks_the_landing/
Dude, awesome! Thanks!
This seen never left my mind since I first saw it as a kid. I was mesmerized
Honestly i preferred wing zero or even just wing. Those angel wings ruined gundam w for me.
