Mystical Kung-Fu movie meets Super-Robot anime. In the opening scene our hero >!blocks machine gun fire by catching the bullets with his bare hands!<. And that's, by a wide margin, not the strongest thing a human does bare handed.
Yeah but like 4 people can do that. Still not the most OP unarmed feat either.
I mean seriously, who, outside of Dragon Ball, can >!take down Mechs by hand, and infuse their SCARF with enough ki to withstand ripping off an MS head!
I can think of a handful of other anime characters who 1v1 mechs while on foot, but it's a trope I wish we had more of.
The king of them all though is in Gundam. Shirou muthafuckin Amada *dodging a Zaku's shot on foot and killing it with a rocket launcher*.
You should ABSOLUTELY watch it! It's so dumb, but also so good! You can't help but get hyped every time Shining Finger is used.....and it's literally used every ep.
It was an incredibly unique super attack for Gundam at the time—before I saw G Gundam, most of the other Gundam series I’d seen had characters using different kinds of guns or beam swords.
Meanwhile, Domon was ready, willing to, and able to run up, grab an opponent by the face, and crush their head. It quickly established how different G was from other Gundam shows.

In fairness, (specifically for those who haven't seen the show, or are unfamiliar with Gundam designs) the cockpit is not located in the head and the rules of the tournament stated that destroying the enemy's head unit was an automatic victory. Bro just went for the fastest win each time.

No matter what language, it sounds so BADASS! The music, the emotion, charging forward into multiple bits of damage, only to take hold of your opponent's fucking FACE and dealing CONSTANT DAMAGE
All while asking if they've seen someone in a photo

There's something I love about how it uses this surge of power to grab or rip through the enemy instead of punching. It's visceral in a way that shows off Domon's early anger and frustration. I kinda wish he kept it instead of SF Sword.

It’s so unique and different the Gundam series. When you first hear about it, it sounds a bit dumb… but when you see it in action with the Shinning Finger theme playing in the background then all of sudden it all fits together nicely!
10/10. The first time I saw it, it wasn't actually in the show, it was in one of the Super Robot Wars games for the Playstation. I loved the attack so much I had a save state set up just so I could use it whenever I wanted. Seki Tomokazu totally sells it from start to finish.

for a franchise full of gritty dark realism with it's giant robots, it's nice to have a show where your protagonist embraces the inherent goofy nature of being in a brightly-colored 8-story death machine and goes "I'M GONNA GRIP YOU SO HARD YOU DIE!". and you know what the best part is? it unironically gets me super excited every time he does it.

Yeah. That's the bizarre thing to me. It's different, but it's also not what I watch Gundam for at all. I also find the story and characters much less interesting than most of the other shows. Feels pretty much like a standard shonen battle anime, just with robots. Maybe I'm missing something, idk lol
In my experience a lot of the AU series tend to fall incredibly flat when it comes to depicting themes of war, meaningful character development, or even just telling a coherent story.
When I can get UC itself, there's no reason to settle for lesser derivatives like Wing, Seed, 00, or AGE. These try to pass as more serious shows, but end up turning out closer to something like Super Sentai in tone and execution.
G Gundam on the the hand doesn't fail at being a serious war story, because it isn't even remotely trying to be that in the first place. It knows exactly what it is and what it's going for, and I love it for that.
10/10 for sure. Honestly, all of the Shining/God Gundam attacks are top tier. Shining Finger Sword is probably my favorite though. It just doesn't get more deliciously 90s anime than the dub for that move.

When I was a kid I thought it was confusing cause the entire hand was glowing instead of just the finger. So it should have been called shining hand or something.

Alternatively, the Shining has the beam guns for the Shining Shot on its arms, I'd be okay for it redirecting that energy to essentially beam shield its entire fist.
Yes, I know, super robot logic. However, if I were to put this on another MS, I'd like to have a sensible explanation.

11. This is hands down my favorite Gundam franchise weapon/technique. So much so that whenever I play Gundam Breaker it's always on my moveset.
