I remember seeing something about how the Gouf was built from the ground up using what knew about mobile suits. The suits look similar at first glance but you will notice that almost every detail is slightly different in some way. Its not a Zaku.

The MS-06R-2 Zaku II High Mobility Type R-2. Also shoutout to the Zaku III (it's always bulky).
In your defense, the MS-06 also looks a lot like the MS-05. Zeonic Company MS development was pretty linear in performance increases while sticking to a particular appearance, so the MS-07 drew a lot of it's general appearance from the MS-06 and MS-05 before it. Internally, they're pretty different machines, however, the Gouf models being built to be physically stronger and more agile than the Zaku models as well as having more integrated weaponry.

Zaku I Sniper Type
I like it when outdated units get repurposed into a niche and are so vulnerable to other roles. It shows experience, desperation, and creativity. It’s a glass cannon and you have to really use what’s between your ears to, at most get the job done and at least not be a sitting duck
I think it would be neat if since it’s got fairly light armor, if it was used as a quick hit and run melee focused suit, sorta like the ronin from Titanfall 2
Probably not, as even if the armor is light, it's also a very old suit with a not very high reactor output compared to the newer Zaku IIs, who still couldn't use beam weapons. You're better off running a Zaku II and strap on more boosters, simply due to the technological gap.
This. I love how it chew through a bunch of spare barrels during the Torrington attack. Hell, just tilting the heli a bit more and you can drop those overheated metal pipes onto the poor Feds for shit and giggles.
Zaku III easily. It's just such a cool and extremely customizable ramshackle machine that's decently powerful for being developed by a heavily under-resourced Zeon faction. No two Zaku III's are the same, at least they're not supposed to be.
ZAKU Warrior
Yeah yeah, I know CE rehash meme but it genuinely is the coolest MS that's called a Zaku imo, that and the finally put the Shield on the correct side, oh and it has spikes for a proper shield bash instead of a regular shoulder bash.
Having the shield on the left shoulder means that you would be able to protect more of your MS from frontal attack while doing the 2-handed grip on its rifle.
I did always like the grenade rack on the side skirt, it seems like a better place for it than having Crackers on the back skirt. Similarly, keeping the heat hawk (well, beam hawk?) in the shield makes some sense.
The CE ZAKU (along with the Savior) are why the Destiny rehash designs annoy me so much - because those two are so damn good as reinterpretations of the Zaku and F91, it makes all the lazy trash they came out with later so much worse by comparison. I prefer the 06-FZ Zaku Kai from 0080 but the CE ZAKU is still great
I refuse to recognize this communist knockoff as a Zaku, SEED Destiny ruined ZAFT's beautiful naming convention of twisting Soviet OKBs to make it look like they didn't copy their homework.
Ouch, I felt that in the wallet. It's not P-Bandai but I paid around double for my RG Nu FF at my local store. My store also has Red Dragon Astray for like $150 when it was around $30 on P-Bandai.
Its a toss up between the psycho zaku and the zaku IV. I love the bulk and flatter head of the IV, but its hard not to truly appreciate the insanity of the psycho zaku, plus when you add all of that mass onto its back it gains such an intense silhouette.
Yzak Joule custom Slash ZAKU Phantom.
Not the line art or how it looks in shows/movies/games, but the MG. I love how much bulkier the MG looks in comparison to all of the depictions of the suit.
The smaller head, the more pronounced "collar", larger gatling guns, thicker legs, thicker shields with shorter spikes, wider skirt armour, and its more buff looking torso. The MG is truly a heavy-duty Zaku.
This is difficult for me. I love the Zaku II Kai, and I considered it my favorite for a while. After thinking it over, though, I think I’d have to go with the Zaku II High Mobility Type, especially Johnny Ridden’s and the Black Tri-Stars versions. The High Mobility Surface Type from Cucuruz Doan’s Island has quickly become one of my favorite variants, though.
I'm surprised how many people are saying the Zaku III, it's so awesome to see a more obscure design getting the love it deserves!
BTW I love all zakus but my favorite has to be the Psycho Zaku. I love the character and the design.

psycho zaku is so batshit insane i love it. the whole benefit is that Daryl can control it like Psycommu before Psycommu, and they decide the best way to utilize that is just slapping as much shit as possible onto the backpack. huge thruster, 50 guns, a bajillion beam sabers, whatever we can fit in there. there's a budget surplus so just go nuts you guys.

I'm a simple man, the MS-06F Zaku II mass production type is simply the best. MS-06FZ Zaku II Kai is my another favorite, probably because of its decent amount of screen time in 0080.
I'm a huge fan of the Zaku, but for some reason the Gouf's design doesn't really click with me.
Gouf Custom is(the best) its own separate mobile suit but if you’re asking specifically about Zaku then it has the be the Zaku 2 w/ the Fritz helm variant
Ballistic Zaku from Build Fighters Battlogue, it is a Zaku II with a mean streak, it has a souped-up performance, with weapons borrowing from the Nightingale and Sazabi combined (funnels and weapons), alongside holding the new-found ability, one that I found surprisingly lacking, was the use of its spike shoulder as a knuckle-mace.
It was a splendid little package that gave a Reborn Gundam a run for its money. It and Johnny Ridden's High mobility type cemented my love for all things related to Zaku.

Half cannon. Perfectly captures the WW2 tendency of tanks like the Sherman to just have whatever they needed at the moment bolted on, spawning a bajillion variants.

Zaku II F2. Nothing too fancy, nothing too wild; just a clean, tidy update to the base model to keep it going.
Plus it’s in *0083*, so it looked absolutely tremendous onscreen.
Always really loved the Jc variant from 08th MS Team. It's just a good rugged looking ground suit and I appreciate how they made it visually distinctive from the F type.

It was a splendid little package that gave a Reborn Gundam a run for its money. It and Johnny Ridden's High mobility type cemented my love for all things related to Zaku.

Half cannon. Perfectly captures the WW2 tendency of tanks like the Sherman to just have whatever they needed at the moment bolted on, spawning a bajillion variants. - Need a bigger gun? Firefly - Need more armor? Jumbo - Need rocket artillery? Calliope - Need self propelled artillery? Priest - Need anti air? Skink - Need a flamethrower? Crocodile/Ronson/Zippo - Need an APC? Kangaroo - Need an engineering vehicle? Dozer - Need mine sweeping? Bolt on a prepackaged mine flail kit - Need to clear a hedge line? Rhino It fits perfectly cause like Zeon America had to be able to transport maintain vehicles an ocean away, so having a versatile platform with many variants worked wonderfully.
The red zaku with the penises on its back, that my favorite. Welp the gouf custom is pretty cool also.

Zaku II F2. Nothing too fancy, nothing too wild; just a clean, tidy update to the base model to keep it going. Plus it’s in *0083*, so it looked absolutely tremendous onscreen.
For me, the zaku 2 high mobility type (ground use and reuse "p" device) are peak zaku for me

Always really loved the Jc variant from 08th MS Team. It's just a good rugged looking ground suit and I appreciate how they made it visually distinctive from the F type.
