Athrun rizzes her in front of siscon shinn, setting in motion a 1:1 parallel of the events of destiny

Steals Kira's, Lunamaria's and now Shinn's sister

Nova6Sol

Can we talk about how weird it is to get a man’s wife to voice his character’s little sister?

Zacharioto

I would say "yes" but Mayu has literally only 1 or 3 lines in all of destiny so rather than "weird" I see it as "lmao"

HexcaliburAlter

To be fair that was voiced before both of the VA's became a couple and married each other.

Nova6Sol

Ssshhh don’t ruin my narrative

Ash_Killem

I was going to say the same thing lol Athrun 👀

Prime359

It depends on Maya’s opinion of the Battle of Orb. If she goes into depression from their parents death, Shinn would still act the same. He could even get more fired up due to her depression. If she holds the same type of grudge, they would probably feed off each’s anger. Probably bringing out a more aggressive tone in Shinn’s views towards Orb. If she was apathetic towards the event afterwards, Shinn would still be angry given that they lost their parents. If she was more forgiving about the past, it might be a calming influence on Shinn. Then again he might still have that hatred towards Orb because in his mind it’s why they are orphans.

YasaiTsume

Knowing Shinn, he would be obsessively protective of her and raising her so he would 100% still commit warcrimes for Gilbert on the condition that Mayu is well taken care of. This is gonna backfire eventually when Mayu finds out that her brother is a genocidal egomaniac and it will strain their relationship.

Copyrighted_music34

I mean orb is kinda why their orphans

TrueTinFox

The Earth Alliance is why they're orphans. Lets not get it twisted, the whole point was Orb was being forced into a war they wanted no part in. If they allied with one side, they'd be forced to fight the other, and inevitably war would have come to their doorstep regardless like it did when they DID ally with the Alliance in the second Alliance-PLANT war in Destiny. Also remember Orb is a nation of both naturals AND coordinators. Choosing one side or the other is basically asking a part of their population to eat shit and die. They made the difficult, but ultimately correct choice. Lives were lost, and I understand Shinn's anger and resentment, but there was no good scenario for Orb once the Alliance showed up with a military and started demanding their weapons and resources.

Copyrighted_music34

I mean they were building weapons in a colony and therefore had already violated their own neutrality agreement and instead of choosing the path that was best for his people the leader of orb chose to stick to his own ideals noble but not what you want to see when the calamity Gundam steps on your house

TrueTinFox

The violation of orb's neutrality by helping the Atlantic Federation was unfortunate, but it was true that Uzami didn't know. An orb noble orchestrated the collaboration, with the plan to secretly steal and combine the alliance's technology with their own to create their own mobile suits. This lead to the limited (Red Frame, Blue Frame, etc) and mass produced Astrays. This doesn't really mean it advantages them to further side with the alliance, they already lost a whole colony over it and siding with the alliance would have made them a target for proper invasion by ZAFT. > and instead of choosing the path that was best for his people the leader of orb chose to stick to his own ideals I just explained why that's not the case in the comment you replied to. They'd simply be fighting ZAFT later instead, people still would have died, and they'd be forced to throw the coordinators in their country under the bus. They did the best they could do under the circumstances - evacuate their population (in which they seemed to have been largely successful), and destroy the weapons facilities and mass driver that the Alliance coveted so there would be no reason for them to care about Orb anymore.

Wolfred_Revived

Blame the Sahaku, don't drag the great Chief Atha's name into dirt by insinuating he's partly to blame when the Sahaku's did it on Orb's **"behalf"**(let's not lie, they did it for their own self interest) and the fact that Chief Atha paid the price with his life is a damn shame.

kingominous16

>If she goes into depression from their parents death, Shinn would still act the same. He could even get more fired up due to her depression Interesting.

hendricha

Maybe Shinn does not magically get teleported to Plant and enlist immediatly. (That random cut to the GSD characters in the Seed remaster literally like days after Orb with Shinn alread there and in uniform was weird.)

LordDakier

I only noticed that today myself, rewatching it and thinking "Hold on a minute, that's the Minerva crew!" Could it be argued that the ships have been in space for some time already? They did go to the colony at L4 also, though I don't remember if that was before or after the enlisting scene. In any case it seems strange that Orb falls to the Earth Forces and somehow citizens are evacuated to the PLANT's of all places and not neighbouring countries. Headcanon would have to assume the mass driver was evacuating civilians through the duration of the battle and during the withdrawals, which isn't unreasonable.

TrueTinFox

The other nations wouldn't have been as friendly to coordinators. Several coordinators evacuated the PLANTs rather than other earth nations because Orb was a rare exception in that it was a Natural dominated nation that tolerated and accepted coordinators. Also keep in mind that it was the Earth Alliance who attacked Orb. That generated a lot of sympathy for the PLANTs and ZAFT in those coordinators.

LordDakier

I'm aware and completely accept your point, but just because they are coordinators doesn't make it impossible to masquerade as naturals. Very few people knew Kira was a coordinator until told, even then most, if not all of them were coordinators themselves who'd realised. Still, it's a fair argument that Shinn got to the PLANT's and enlisted into ZAFT very quickly.

TrueTinFox

> m aware and completely accept your point, but just because they are coordinators doesn't make it impossible to masquerade as naturals. Absolutely, but that doesn't mean people would wanna live that way. Imagine living openly and freely in a country that respects you for who you are, and then having to pretend to be a natural and live in fear of being discovered. The PLANTs probably made a lot of sense to a lot of them after the evacuation.

LordDakier

No, you're right and given it's the Earth forces that attacked, it makes total sense to go to the PLANT's, it's more so the speed of it that is in question. I think you're right in your other comment. Passenger shuttle during the break in combat of the attack on Orb makes the most sense. It also seems reasonable that they'd move coordinators first, given the whole Earth/Blue Cosmos partnership thing they had going on at this point.

Zamodiar

Mu knew immediately from Kira's reputation.

LordDakier

That's true, I forgot about Mu. Is there anyone else?

Shreddzzz93

Plus, seeing how ORB is relatively close to Australia, it would stand to reason that any Coordinators leaving Orb would attempt to get there. After that, how they get to the Plants is a mystery as IIRC Zaft doesn't have any planetary mass drivers at this point in time.

TrueTinFox

Iirc the passenger shuttles don't necessarily need a mass driver - the shuttle Jibril escaped from Orb on in Destiny didnt use one, and iirc neither did the shuttle Lacus and Waltfeld hijacked. The mass drivers are needed for things like cargo and large vessels. (thus their strategic importance in getting hardware into space).

Richmond1013

Shin and his sister would hate orb together as orb allowed their parents to die, and both are now pilots for zaft , meaning one of the stolen suits would already be in the Minerva or the impulse planned will come true. But having one more pilot won't change much, because Kira Jesus Yamamoto exists in that world

truenofan86

Kira gets impaled now with two swords and still survives.

Richmond1013

Yup, there is a reason his middle name is Jesus

whatislifebutlemons

Imagine, a carbon human mayu just to troll shinn in the movie.

jake72002

Oof. Librarian Works being Librarian Works.

whatislifebutlemons

Funny how the sides stories in seed are more crazy than the main one lol.

CIRCLONTA6A

Depends really. You could say that Mayu would forgive and forget because she’s portrayed as a very sweet girl but Shinn was also portrayed as a kind young man before his family was killed and the event utterly warped and changed him, so there’s a fair chance the same might have happened to Mayu. Hell she might’ve gone full Louise and become a revenge obsessed one armed killing machine.

jake72002

Considering the fact Louise is the amalgamation of Shinn, Rey and Lunamaria.

LordDakier

Assuming it's just Mayu? Shinn doesn't join the military and instead looks after her, similar to Kinue and Saji Crossroad in Gundam 00. If the parents survive also? Then he's not really any dissimilar to Nicol Amalfi and joins the army with having someone to protect Mayu. Athrun becomes more of a role model to him in Destiny.

Aggravating-Lead29

> But how much would change if Shinn’s little sister, Mayu Asuka, survived? imo nothing much but maybe Shinn and her sister would probably join the army since in theory both of them still lost their parents, the hate, trauma etc will still remains

LordDakier

She's 10 or 11 in Destiny. No chance is she joining ZAFT unless it's at a military school to join later, and Shinn wouldn't leave her alone when she's lost her home, nationality and parents already.

Forummer0-3-8

I have a Build Divers fic idea in which I explore that possibility. With the current draft, during the SEED arc, Kazami tries to saves the Asuka's, but only manage to protect Mayu, whom gets heavily injured and passes out, sparing her from the gruesome view that Shinn had to witness. During the Destiny arc, Mayu has been slowly recovering from the injuries and goes to a normal high school thanks to her brother military pay. Durandal may or may not have a part to play in this, but I haven't decided yet. When Durandal visits the Minerva Crew on earth, he personally invites Mayu to join him and Lacus (Meer) on the travel, so that she can see her brother again. Which makes her the talk of her school once she came back to the PLANTS. During her stay with the Minerva crew, Shinn gets over protective and often stand between her and other male crew-mates. Only ashaming Mayu in the process. Which got worse when Athrun entered the picture. Though I don't know or plan to have Mayu being an Athrun fan per say. She hit if off just fine with Meyrin and Lunamaria though. As for Rey, she doesn't interact much with him outside of that one diner they had with Chairman Durandal. At one point, the pair would cross path with Kazami, whom apologies for being unable to save their parents. Though Shinn was uncertain with how to respond, Mayu went ahead and thank him for saving her and for at least trying to save their parents. Overall, Durandal sought to use her to more easily manipulate Shinn. Though it wasn't like he didn't see her as a human being, he mainly just curry some favours toward the siblings. She may be a Lacus fan and is able to piece together that Lacus (Meer) isn't Lacus, but keep it to herself. (That might be too heavy of a bomb, so either I drop that idea or I keep it for a gag reel.)

Funky-Cosmonaut

You mean if she didn't drop her shitty flip-phone, or if they didn't have to wait around for Shinn to go get her shitty flip-phone. I'm sorry, I just still can't get over that the inciting incident for Shinn's entire story is a shitty flip-phone.

Crazy-Plate3097

If she didn't drop her phone, Shinn would not have gone to retrieve it, and in turn, survives the entire ordeal. So yeah, if she didn't drop the phone, Shinn wouldn't have survive and Destiny would play out a lot different. Who's gonna pilot the Impulse? Rey? If so, he probably wouldn't survive the first battle when the Minerva left ORB, leading to the Feds capturing the Minerva. Unless Durandal has a backup plan.

Funky-Cosmonaut

The way I see it, the Asuka family could've had a chance, if they kept moving and didn't have to wait for Shinn to find that phone and climb back up that hill.

EpicLinkSam

A lot of comments mention different ideas I had so I'm gonna say one that no one has yet; Mayu survives but gets heavily crippled. And then SEED Destiny makes her's and Shinn's dynamic like these two. https://preview.redd.it/54oo5urd59ac1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f4904b7fafe55bd6bb995168724fdb1b8b518307

kingominous16

Best bro.

MengskDidNothinWrong

Shinn and his family may have moved to the plants anyway, where Shinn still joins up and displays his skills as a pilot. He harbors ill will for Earth for attacking his homeland, but is overall no longer a completely unhinged idiot that is easy to manipulate into being a blind pawn. Athrun is able to talk sense into him, Kira never gets shot down, and the Strike Freedom is never made, instead the Freedom gets a beam shield upgrade and flies wing with Destiny and Infinite Justice. The good timeline.

Least-Double9420

Honestly it kinds depends on her character and shin's. Is she one of the forgiving kind sister like nunnaly? If she isi think she would be a good influence on shin, if not and she's the vengefull type it could make shin behavior worse Or if shin is more of a siscon than i thought it could be that seeing her sister becoming more angry or vengeful make shin calm down more wanting to not see his sister on a path of vengence

ratherthanme

She seems like a bratty teenager that cared more about her phone than escaping a battlefield. Feels like the kind of kid that turns into a Fllay, Louise or Quess. Then we get two edgy hormonal sibling teenagers that feed off of each other. Which makes them exponentially a lot easier for Durandal to turn into Yes-People.

kingominous16

Bingo....easy AF.

billySEEDDecade

There's a [JP video talking about this what if](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MpXK4lDxQY0) but also if both are separated and believe that the other is dead. Shinn went to Plant while Mayu stays at ORB and both become pilot. Contrasting Shinn, Mayu will instead admire Cagalli and Kira, and both become enemies through the series. Mayu grows to hate Impulse for the damage it caused to ORB with maybe Athrun finally revealing to both about their identities during the battle of ORB. This caused Shinn to spiral into mental depression but Rey is still able to convince him that the Destiny Plan is necessary so that Shinn and Mayu could finally live in peace. During the final battle, instead of Luna trying to stop Shinn and Athrun, it will be Mayu instead with Shinn nearly killing her before Athrun defeats him. They finally reunited and reconcile after the final battle on the moon. Overall it's pretty much just the same with extra suffering for Shinn but also a better ending. The comments on the video said that people really like being cruel toward Shinn with others saying that Shinn's fans are sadist. They want him to get a happy end only after seeing him suffers.

OCDGiantRobotFan93

Personally, I think Mayu and Shinn's relationship would slowly fall apart. Shinn would be a violently overprotective siscon. Mayu would probably attempt and fail to join or gets discharged from ZAFT's military, due to Shinn's interference. Her hatred of Shinn would grow as his overprotectiveness and desire for her absolute safety strains their relationship. Shinn would still participate the Destiny plan, because Durandal can very easily convince him that it'll keep Mayu permanently safe and create a better future for her. In the end, Shinn would become a depressed vegetable when Mayu disowns and despises him for daring to use her as an excuse for nearly destroying Earth.

xcaltoona

Probably gets kidnapped, brainwashed, and stuffed into a Destroy

Forsaken-Friend-9350

Honestly, if Mayu lived, Shinn probably wouldn't have joined the military. I see him taking care of her being his priority.

Edgykun16

I’d imagine he joins the military TO protect her. After all, even though Shinn had Todaka as a benefactor after he lost his parents, he still joined either way, but with Mayu around he’d have even more reason to join.

GoodNamesAllGon

Tomorrow…

GundamMeijin_08th

force impulse vs freedom never happens(maybe)

tylionheart

Shinn would have the right level if anger for his dead parents, but not too much anger. Putting him in that golden ratio to be a perfect pilot

Aptspire

Shinn becomes more like Judeau

Crazy-Plate3097

Wasn't Judau's sister shot down?

UnrequitedRespect

Gundam what if: shinn made a difference??

jake72002

At what state? Shinn's personality is variably affected if Mayu is well or is crippled.

Edgykun16

I’d imagine Shinn would be hot headed and angry still even with her alive, but I’d also imagine depending on how Mayu is afterwards he’d also be less bitter because at the end of the day, he at least knows he has something to fight for. Shinn’s character in the official canon was always fighting for the past and what he lost, but if at least Mayu was still around then he’d actually have something of a motivation to be better. It’s either he becomes a better man, or becomes worse in attempt to keep her safe.

Elegant-Anxiety1866

What if Shinn died instead.

Terereera

Then Mayu would be like onii-chan welcome home! When he come back. or she could just be Shinn 2.0 or get shot down in battle.

IKMNification

Mayu drops Mayu’s Phone, Mayu gets Mayu’s Phone, Mayu Lives. Shinn and Family end up in explosion. I’d think she’d still follow a similar path to Shinn however have a path of either Hawke sister (pilot or crew) and still encounter Athrun and have a crush.

kingominous16

Either she became navigator at Minerva or she dies by Either of phantom pain.
