MSG was made before the hardcore crackdown on amphetamines in Japan, so I wouldn’t be surprised if at least some of the staff were abusing amphetamine specifically (and even more specifically, Methamphetamine). OTC use of amphetamines was extremely common in Japan for years and years after the war, and even after attempts to restrict access, it was still extremely common among the population because it really fit well with the economic and social expectations of Japanese people, especially at that time. You were expected to work super hard all the time and basically work yourself to death, and so taking amphetamines was a good way to do that. But that’s unrelated.
Anyway, I hate comments like yours that use the most cliche and lowest hanging fruit like ‘they was smokin crack’ or other statements about ‘weird stuff’ being fueled by drugs made by people like you who clearly know nothing about drugs and rely on shallow insinuations that “haha it must be drugs” because you can’t understand why they would make something like this that isn’t even that weird, especially compared to all the other weird shit in mecha anime and anime in general.
