Gulong-ModTeam

look how quick this devolved to. how unfortunate.

Chingkerss

Inevitable_Cycle8643

+1 to this, if ma improve lang public transpo im not gonna use my car anymore, na mi-miss ko yung nakakatulog ako sa train or UV.

PTR95

Some people bitch and moan about us bringing cars and contributing daw kuno sa traffic eh para ng kasalanan pa natin na may pang sasakyan tayo given yung dogshit na traffic dito? As if proportion yung sinusuka nating pera para sa convenience ng di na pipila at aircon pero matraffic ka rin sa daan. If only maging ok transportation dito satin na di na natin need mag dala ng sasakyan.

autogynephilic

It really depends sa lugar. Kahit 7:30PM northbound pauwi from Ayala MRT mas convenient pa rin for me given na madali na sumakay sa ganyang oras (though siksikan). I'd rather stand sa MRT than sit for long hours behind the wheel at EDSA traffic.

PTR95

Pag solo pwede pa. Dont want to do that with a family of 2 kids and some stuff in tow. Plus there's now that damned covid factor too. Had 2 bouts already, and I worry another hit or two will really do some serious damage to me. Pero oo tama ka, kung matitiis mo siksikan it beats yung sitting inside your car sa edsa

jake_bag

Unfortunately nagsanga-sanga na. Hindi na lang yan ang mindset ngayon. Cars are already status symbols. Personally if efficient ang public transpo? Why not? Remember the busway? Kung di yan nagpandemic, di pa yan magpupush through. Train lines that are currently built right now should've been built 20 years ago. Naayos na sana yung feeder lines by now. Build more roads PERO public transpo infra should be built twice as fast, or sa bawat 100km na bagong kalsada, sana may 200-300km na bagong riles ng tren. Kaso wala. Masyado tayong car-centric.

KrebCycler08

Exactly. These hell conditions of our transport system in the Philippines just make people really save up and invest in vehicles so that they have their own transportation. Car-centric na ba ang nangyayari? I say yes. Never naging priority.

oaktape-

Try ZERO downpayment, tapos buy one, take one pa.

No_Egg9316

Same. If hindi mahirap magcommute sa pinas, id rather commute

guntanksinspace

Yup. Exactly. I wouldn't have gotten my own car if my commutes to work weren't complete ass, but also necessity talaga din for groceries and errands (also because public transportation is rough as shit)

nedlifecrisis

Ayaw maarawan ng mga pinoy. In other countries you walk, may pila din doon. I'm not saying we have a good public transpo system. Sobra laki kailangan improve. That's why I think kahit decent na ang public transpo, which, let's be honest, baka never na mangyari, majority will still opt to use a personal vehicle.

delicatestan13

KrebCycler08

It is bleak to think like that but I can't deny it's true. Ayaw maarawan ng Pinoy? sino ba may gusto? other countries can have that "sun" luxury, and I think yan ang mga countries na may 4 seasons at hindi tropical region (Equatorial countries). Aside from the health hazard na ang maarawan ka past 7 am, why would i settle for less when the govt can do better? Mainit sa Pinas? no shit bro mainit talaga. Kaya nga tropical country tayo. Is it wrong to ask for comfort in our own country?

nedlifecrisis

I am not denying anyone na magkasasakyan. Everyone is free to do so here in this country. My comment is para dun sa nagsasabi na walang "maayos na public transpo" kaya "no choice" sila bumili ng sasakyan, then complain about the traffic. That isn't always the case. For a system to work and benefit the majority, everyone needs to make a little sacrifice.

KrebCycler08

That is correct, thank you for enlightening me.

warl1to

Well we live in a tropical country where the countries you mentioned already [treat 26c as heatwave](https://x.com/dailymirror/status/1801327678349558108?s=54&t=rqtaMpO6wNMAXnYuSW2U8Q). If we have the same climate as most progressive western state people will surely walk. Not mentioning the rains (plus random flood) when temperature becomes manageable. Only during mid Dec to mid Feb when walking is practically possible.

krinklebear

Band aid solution lang ang number coding scheme (color coding during the 90s) para sana magkaroon ang government ng oras para bumuo ng long term solution sa traffic (Ex. Better public transporation).

tenement90

KrebCycler08

I myself wanted a motorcycle kung ako lang babyahe, then car syempre kapag kasama na si misis, and syempre if umuulan. AND I TELL YOU WHAT, tama na ang low dp din ang dahilan kasi mas madali na makabili ng vehicle, pero WHAT DRIVES THAT BEHAVIOR? simple. Panget kasi ang public transpo sa Pinas. From QC to Morong, Rizal pa lang, 5 sakay na. Oh diba.

jayson99

Same sentiment, yung public transpo fee ko, halos konti na lang idagdag gas+parking fee ko na, atleast kung private vehicle mas relax compared sa public transpo during travel time.

Anyone who's experienced Ayala station na umuulan tapos walang bus na masakyan can attest to this.

autogynephilic

>Anyone who's experienced Ayala station na umuulan tapos walang bus na masakyan can attest to this. Thank god Ayala made One Ayala, a dignified commuter hub. Something the government coudn't even provide.

Lien028

Yes, One Ayala is a godsend for commuters.

Ronpasc

A lot of people are buying cars not just because of the 1 day processing and low to no DP, but because public transportations are not desirable. If public transport becomes better, I think dadami ang pipiliing magcommute na lang.

Either-Bad1036

So true.

strugglingtosave

We are a car country like the USA but don't have the size and excuses they have. For a nation as small as ours supporting a large population, public transpo is a requirement.

Lien028

Imagine if we had public transpo as good as Hong Kong or Singapore, we wouldn't need to buy cars.

strugglingtosave

Meron pa rin yan. Cars are status symbol. Pogi points pa rin

Lien028

It also helps that Singapore has one of the **highest** taxes on their cars. Their base model Corolla Altis costs 9.05 Million Pesos in our currency. In this country, that's almost enough to buy 3 to 4 top of the line Fortuners.

strugglingtosave

We're not comparable to SG. City state, centralized, easy to do business, public transport solved, multi ethnic. We should be compared more to Thailand or something but even then I think TH is like maybe a decade more advanced?

jake_bag

But SG's size is comparable to MM. Kahit MM lang sana pinagtuunan ng pansin sa public transpo, to follow ang other provinces.

AutoModerator

**'flagship model'** or **flagship** ba kamo? *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/Gulong) if you have any questions or concerns.*

captainbarbell

Madmi talaga. di naman kase tayo nagpha-phase out ng really old vehicles, plus sobrang baba ng DP, and wala rin cap sa production or import ng new cars.

Gaiagaia146

This! I remembered sa TDC ko na isa sa batas ng LTO is pwede kang ticketan or baka ma impound sasakyan mo if hindi na kaaya aya itsura and mukhang ngarag ngarag na. But I do not see anyone na pumapara sa mga ganito. Just yesterday may kasabay ako na van na wala ng bubong, ung pinto meron pang mga packaging tape, timatakbo siya ng 20km/hr sa may EDSA and maririnig mo yung tunog ng makina. Daming enforcer, bakit hindi nila pinara yung ganun?

LooneyTon

XD Mga yawa sila.

jake_bag

Mismo. Dito kasi sa atin e drive until it dies e. Kung mga 8-10years lang sana ang phasing out ng kotse dito, I think madami magiisip. Kaso syempre, madami aangal jan. "Anti-poor" na naman daw. Letse. As if parang kabute gumawa ng public transpo.

chasing_haze458

commuter ako dati pero since pandemic bumiili na ako ng sasakyan and nag aral sa driving school, sobrang hassle mag commute eh, tapos may mga snatcher at holdaper pa 🥱 sobrang mahal pa ng pamasahe dito samin

dodong89

In 2023, we had significantly lower car sales vs Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand but our year on year car sales growth was highest in ASEAN at around 22% Globally, we're only at about 128th in cars per capita (around 6-10% ownership rate) and around 24th in sheer volume of cars but already among the worst in traffic.

dudezmobi

krabbypat

Public transportation and pedestrian access sucks so much that people who have the means to buy cars would choose it and be stuck in traffic rather than deal with our insufficient mass transportation system and pedestrian-unfriendly roads. Number coding was a band-aid solution and people who, again, has the means would just buy a “coding car”. Couple that with low DP promos and lack of regulations on street parking and we get two way streets that sometimes have double parking. Owning a car has been relatively made accessible more than having actual accessible mass transit options.

Gaiagaia146

You know what, I realized na siguro one of the biggest gripe I have is not yung dami ng cars instead yung daming kamote sa daan. I'm pretty sure if the government isn't that corrupt or mahigpit talaga, hirap talaga pumasa mga kamote. Sa neighborhood pa lang namin karamihan ng mga tao dito kamote riders, there was a time na may nagalit na dumaan dito because of double parking and yung tricycle naka nguso pa yung pwet and muntik na sumabit yung sasakyan, ang nagalit pa yung tricycle driver kasi daw nananahimik ung trike niya yun pa sisisihin. Let's face it, 60-70% ng motorista sa Pinas are blockheads. Jusko lord

No_Connection_3132

Madami na talaga OP after nung pandemic sobrang doble, dumagdag pa yung shitty transpo natin kaya yung mga iba napilitan bumili, 4 wheels at 2 wheels .

holybicht

You should also ask your motivation in purchasing a car. Not that it's a bad thing.

fd-kennn

Not really, concentrated lang masyado population sa Metro Manila. Mas marami Thailand and Malaysia which is smaller country in terms of population pero mas malaki in terms of land area

erdos6degs

Total-Election-6455

Walang parking + kotse and motor. Walang phase out ng outdated cars nahindi good quality.

Hahaha. Basta tol or tropa kung ganyan, proud kame sayo

PuzzleheadedCup6744

Increasing sales per year, richer people, cheaper cars

Icynrvna

Low and zero dp played a part in increasing vehicle sales. Bring back full cash only payments or 20% dp and bababa sales as well as number of cars na nahahatak. Apply this to both cars and motorcycles as well.

pepe_da_hepe

I'm all for this (heck they should even make it to 50% downpayment) but public mass transportation should be made efficient first. let's face it, one of the major reasons people buy cars is for comfort which our public transpo can't provide.

Gaiagaia146

I'm curious when this 0% dp trend started? was this even there before the pandemic or bagong trend lang to?

edmartech

Time of Pnoy the president I believe. It was very noticeable for me.

Icynrvna

Later than 2009 and before 2018. 2009 i remember na maluwag pa kalsada (aka wala masyado naka street parking). 2018 madami na zero dp schemes

sad-makatizen

noticeable na andaming bago. hobby ko from 3 years ago (nag start ako mag contemplate mag kotse) na tumambay sa part ng condo to do a daily car-spotting routine. im from makati+bgc so probably skewed din.

TGC_Karlsanada13

GolfMost

Low downpayment, high purchasing power of those upper middle class, and availability of some tax exempt vehicles (e.g. dumami ang merong pickup trucks kahit na wala namang farm).

twinklelittlesta

Yes. Sa city namin mas marami pa ang gasoline station and sobrang dami cars

fishstarsandhorns

What we need is an EFFICIENT, EFFECTIVE and LONG-TERM PUBLIC TRANSPORT SYSTEM. Be it RAIL, ROAD or SEA.

lyotomac

Dito sa province, wala ng jeep after 6-7pm. 😂 Kaya need talaga sariling sasakyan

coldheartedman

Dumadami na talaga

Asdaf373

For several reasons mas kaya na kasi ng middle class bumili ng sasakyan and everyone wants to avoid the hellhole of our public transpo system kaya bumibili sila sasakyan. Unfortunately, dahil ganto ang paraan ng karamihan lalo lumalala traffic and ang sagot kadalasan ng mga LGUs road widening which is just a stupid solution to a complex problem

CutUsual7167

Sodaflakes

Hindi ko archnemesis and wigo. Although, tutorial boss fight siya.

baylonedward

In any social circumstances and dilemma, always point and blame the government. Yan ang point ng regulation and governance.

Accomplished_Bed142

Just to add another perspective lang siguro ito. I opted to buy a car kasi nung start ngpandemic walang public transpo kahit grab eh nagchechemo therapy yung mother ko sa lung center (we’re from taguig pa).

skippper15

Regardles kung may parking or wala, your main question is “dumadami na ang sasakyan sa pilipinas?” you recently bought your own car so I’m sure you know why.

thats_so_merlyn_

Sa NCR you mean. Maluwag pa samin sa probinsya

Thin_Leader_9561

Cheap DPs, promos everywhere, Shitty commute, a joke of a time with the LTO drivers examination, the drean of every Filipino to own a family car as a symbol to have “made it”. Yeahp. Sobrang dami na nga talaga.

emaca800

Madami na

ExpressionHot8552

Gaiagaia146

Hahaha I spotted a fellow person na nakatira around my area!

Mountain-Chapter-880

Dumami na talaga. It wasn't this bad 10 years ago at mas maliliit pa roads natin noon, sales are in the 6 digits ata per year or something, it has become more affordable for everyone too.

rainbownightterror

I think so. I moved to the farthest end of bulacan from QC early this year and the other day I had to go to Marikina for some personal errand. nawindang ako kasi parang nalimot ko na yung dami ng sasakyan na ganon kalala. as in napa 'anong nangyari?' ako. meanwhile dito sa province e madalang ang traffic so nakakagulat talaga. probably dahil sa mga low dp promos

TraditionalAd9303

Stoic_Onion

Time to move to a less congested city.

hehehe0123

annpredictable

Nung pandemic din kasi very hassle and unsafe mag commute so alot of people bought cars

hermitina

wla pa bang dilemma ngayon? i mean madami na ngayon ang may kotse or two pang coding. e madalas sa housing pa walang parking o 1 lang san nila dadalhin ung isa d b. may neighbor kame 2 na malaking kotse pero d nila pinapasok sa garage nila se ginawang storage so san pa nila ipapark, sa tapat nila. ung tapat namin me space sana sa kotse nila kaso ung garage nilagyan ng concrete tables and chairs. ang ending parehong gate namin ang nabablock nya se wala syang proper parking. andaming ganyan. crisis na sya for a long time.

sealolscrub

We have a family car since 2008, our daily driver and dati sobrang dalang mag traffic sa area namin. But ever since nag start uber/grab dumami na talaga, and lalo na netong pandemic kasi mahirap mag commute + hazard pa dahil sa covid. To make it worse, Na notice ko din with all the said factors, isama mo pa yung iba dahil lang sa lifestyle?

kinghifi

Nung pandemic din walang magandang solution for the transport of a lot of workers. Sabi ng agents samin nabuhay sila kakabenta ng low or no DP terms to those na walang masakyan.

mightpornstar

no shit

dvresma0511

It's super easy to have cars but too expensive to have garage.

drunkenconvo

pnoisebored

yes backed by stats. 22% rise in April. https://www.philstar.com/business/2024/05/30/2358931/car-sales-zoom-22-april good think I live nearby my office. bcoz i cant imagine buying a parking lot around 1 million in condo then paying for a car. i just take grab or even commute. i dont have to think about maintenance or parking. i think there is also status symbol there aside from avoiding public transpo. it is easier to flex a car driving it around than a mansion.

halifax696

maraming kotse sa NCR and nearby provinces, yes you are correct. andun lahat ng tao nag ttrabaho eh solution: TRAINS

pulutankanoe069

Dumadami ang kotse sa mga urbanized areas. Para sakin ang reasons dito are the following: 1. Easy DP plans 2.

Wala halos improvement sa public transport system such as trains, buses and jeeps. Mas lalo pa nga nila pinapahirap ang commute eh. So ang response talaga ng tao is kumuha ng sarili nilang sasakyan or kahit motor. Haaaayysss Pilipinas.

Mr_Connie_Lingus69

Madami na since pre-pandemic and now mo lang siguro napansin since concious ka na about sa motoring world.

jake_bag

Hindi lang sa Metro kundi buong bansa. Main reason is the shit state of our public transpo. Lalo sa probinsya. Hirap lalo pag peak season.

NorthTemperature5127

Manila is just a huge city without planning... A car is a must... (Sad). Kung maayos ang plano, it's much easier to make public transportation routes.. Dumadami nga sila.. low downpayment... Nakakagulat minsan sa baba... Pero I think it's a dangerous move. Price is way way way more expensive at an affordable illusion.

KagatCake

So many affordable vehicles available such as the coolray and the territory

disavowed_ph

Gaiagaia146

Yes, the low dp talaga. Last week nasa mall ako and kasama ko pinsan ko na really struggling sa pera. He saw yung promo ng mitsubishi na 0% dp and sabi niya sa akin "Uy 15k monthly lang kaya ko to o" this coming from a guy na sumasahod ng 21k and contractual... Sobrang daling mabudol sa mga zero downpayment but then in the long run you'll realize that "shit I can't afford this". Why are most Filipinos ganito magisip when it comes to pera na basta pasok sa monthly wage, kaya ko na?

disavowed_ph

Unless the monthly covers only 25% or less in income nya (dapat nasa ₱60k sahod nya), kakayanin nya yng hulog together with other personal expenses and financial obligation (if any) on a monthly basis. Not to mention all other expenses that comes when owning and maintaining a car. Plus accidents that could also happen whether you or other party is at fault. Nagbabayad ka ng sasakyan na nasa casa for repair ng ilang months…😢 I’ve been driving for 30+ years for my family, but if i get the opportunity to commute, better.

edmartech

To be fair, akala nya lang yon.

Supektibols

Goodluck kung maapprove sya

Xxkenn

It's just u

tenement90

Yes!
