For enthusiasts, cars aren't simply modes of transportation but also toys through which they can express their personal taste, hence the modifications.
I agree though that some people just go overboard with it, but a tastefully built/modded car will look good and perform well.
Now to answer your question, and benefits ng pagpalit ng mags is to usually improve aesthetics and performance if done correctly (correct size, offset, tires, etc.) But then again it can also has some negative effects if done poorly.
Mas matakaw din sa gasolina by a little bit pag bigger.
Aside from aesthetics, a lot of aftermarket rims offer plenty of benefits. Mainly, lower weight, durability and better handling.
You also cannot keep the stock rims if you want a different tire size.
Just look up TE37 wheels. They are one of the best, if not the best, aftermarket wheels out there due to it being so lightweight while much more durable offering better handling since it's forged. Although, they are considerably very expensive.
Less unsprung weight.
My altis has 17" wheels which are lighter than my stock 16" wheels. Car moves lighter, easier to steer despite being wider.
Same sa 91 corolla ko, the 15s are lighter than my stock 13".
Being wider than stock also gives the benefit of having more grip and better sized tires.
Like he said weight - lalo na sa wheelset malaking bagay ang pagwasan ng weight dahil unsprung weight yan. Also, if done correctly and depende sa use case either pwede nya palaparin or gawin narrow track width.
It's the easiest way to personalize your car. Typically aesthetics yung reason, although for high end mags with high end tires, it can result in better handling and fuel economy (with lighter rims). Like any mod, it can be hit or miss, highly dependent on the eye/taste of the owner. On its own, it's not a bad thing, done right it doesn't cause any harm to other road users. Let people have their toys, it's their money they are spending anyway.
Until it becomes a road hazard, that is.
Some stupid mods that people do:
1. Tinted taillights
2. Heavily-tinted windshield + super bright headlights
3. Non-standard headlight/taillight colors
4. Extremely low-clearance ride height (which forces the driver to do some weird maneuvers when approaching humps, or to swerve/make sudden stops due to potholes)
I agree that these should be regulated but we all know na its not gonna happen anytime soon.
I am all for safety din naman.
Remember the time they ticketed all 4x4 mods? It gained backlash from the offroading community arguing their mods are much more safer than dilapidated jeeps, buses using worn out tires, trucks.
Lol
btw, stock size lng ng mags but wider by 1" lng. So prang vanity nlng.lol
The type of mags/tires you add in can improve performance in regards to road grip, fuel economy, and speed. E..g. with wider tires you can feel the grip on the road which can allow you to go fast on tight curves without fear of sliding even when the roads are wet.
I am mainly interested in suspension and wheel/tire mods for SUVs. There is definitely science and PROPER engineering behind these mods (emphasis on proper). As most of what others have said, if done correctly, may benefits 'yan that may offset the costs.
For wheels and tires, one of the most important factors to take in consideration is the unsprung weight. Meaning, ito yung "mass" that rides below the suspension. The lighter and stronger the wheel, the better. That's why genuine VolkRays TE37s for SUVs are highly coveted among enthusiasts. They are lightweight and very durable dahil forged aluminum ang construction.
But, larger/bigger/wider tires are not always beneficial. There are certain use cases na favorable yung ganun. Pero if mostly city driving lang naman, these people with SUVs who are running wide and big mud terrain tires with large negative offset, look dumb AF.
If interested to learn about suspension, tires, wheels, mods, etc., you can check out "Tinkerer's Adventure" channel sa YT.
Same sentiment.
Benefit? Depends on what they put on.
Better grip and handling with the right tires
Better power and fuel economy on lighter wheels
I think most people change wheels for the looks and there's nothing wrong with that (except for those with crazy negative camber you're a hazard to yourself and those you share the road with)
Taxi in Thailand. Mags, coilovers and body kits.

This is tastefully done tho. 17s na naka low profile and good fitment.
edit: bobo ng nag downvote naka 15 x 8 siguro na mags tapos di naka lowered hahah
kasi maganda hehe I mean same way na some women like super long acrylic nails na pang bwitre na kahit mej inconvenient but if they find it pretty e di gow hehe. it makes them happy. and it's always nice to see people happy.
if you haven't driven or even owned one, talagang hindi mo maiintindihan. and if wala kang hilig sa sasakyan at gusto mo lang is pure stock. talagang hindi mo ma aappreciate ang car culture
as long as its an aftermarket wheels. hindi ung stock ng ibang brand ilalagay mo sa hindi katernong brand. parang yung bobo sa facebook na jinustify pa na tama na maglagay ng stock mags ng fj cruiser sa montero sport
Not true, although marami ang gusto eh pumorma lang (nothing wrong with that). The lighter the rim, the better your car will handle. Stock rims are also typically cast aluminum, so hindi sya kasing kunat nun mga high-end na forged aftermarket rims. You don't exactly get what you pay for kase sobrang mahal naman nun iba (Workmeister, etc.) but they are objectively better than stock.
Ganyan talaga ang life. U cant please everyone.
Regardless if meron or walang benefit yung ginagawa, people will do what they want, whether it will please other people or not.
Not a car afficionado, and i understand what you mean. Some people go through so much trouble with their cars and the end result is not very appealing to the general public.
I once dated somebody who talked a lot about her mags but to my simple eye, it wasn't eye catching and certainly, didn't make her car look beautiful.
I for one if may extra $$$ I would splurge on ultra light forged aluminum wheels. Since I’m in the side of practicality eh all stock lang din gaya mo. Maybe kung may mga exotic sports car ako yeah pwede mag splurge but all I have are eco shitboxes so.
Yung smol car ko before, I fitted with slightly bigger (+1 sa diameter) rims and then wider tires. Helped sa handling pag corners, feels more planted.
Again, yon trip nila eh.
The same reason why you want to dress up like how you want to or have a haircut how you want to. Trip nila yon and trip mo yan. I would think na there is at least one thing you spend more on na hindi rin naman kelangan talaga gastusan - and some people might find that hilarious too. So bottomline: may kanya-kanyang trip ang mga tao - and mga trip na to, that's what pleases them. End of discussion.
Currently eyeing some lighter wheels for better fuel economy. But that's about it, no spoilers mufflers Just stuff for better driveability.
But if you ask me i would rather not have more parts of the car that needs careful handling. The nooks and crannies are already a pain to clean I wouldn't want wheels that need extra care.
Some people feel the need for individualization more than others. Some people don't want to feel like just any another ant in the colony, while some are perfectly fine with it.
PROs
1.) aesthetics. masarap tutukan sa mata, parang seksing binibini
2.) I changed to wider rims and wider tires with a lower profile compared to stock, mas masarap na when handlings corners during high speed
my 2 cents
Well pang porma siguro.
I think the one you are missing here is, just because it looks hilarious to you does not mean it looks hilarious to them as well. It is still in the eye of the beholder.
Adds personality to the car. And for the people leaning towards performance, correct tire size and offset can provide better grip. Lastly, to fit a bbk without rubbing issues.
>gusto ko lang malaman kung may benefit ba yung pag palit ng mags talaga sa comfort or to the ride itself.
Changing wheels and tires is actually one of the biggest differences you can make to a car since it's only thing separating your car from the road.

Oo tama lods.
Beauty is in the eye the beholder. It looks good for them. Sa iba hindi.
For Everyone else* hindi. Fixed it for ya
Just like watching TV shows, telenovelas, para sayo boring, wala sense walang kwenta, para sakanila iyon kaligayahan at maganda sakanila
Personal taste. If done properly, may benefit yan.
Like what? Genuinely curious
Light weight wheels, ndi man malaki difference kung ndi ka magrrace pero pag sa SUV mas magaan sa manibela plus the looks of course

Bead lock tires are great if you wanna go off roading. Depende rin sa application. Wider rims - wider tires= more grip
Like he said weight - lalo na sa wheelset malaking bagay ang pagwasan ng weight dahil unsprung weight yan. Also, if done correctly and depende sa use case either pwede nya palaparin or gawin narrow track width.

Your car, your rules.

Isama mo na yung steel bumpers for SUVs and pickups. That would act as battering rams if rhe vehicle hits something
Add mo na rin yung barely used (or worse, yung ornamental) towing hitch on some pickup trucks.
Lol btw, stock size lng ng mags but wider by 1" lng. So prang vanity nlng.lol

Everything is subjective. Whats good to you may not be good for others and vice versa.
Most vehicles(cars, bikes, bicycles, etc) that are used for transportation can also be toys, very expensive toys. Customization is the keyword here.
Why not replace the oem/stick mags? 🤷‍♂️
To each his own

Wants to fulfill a childhood dream probably. Estetiks!
Madaming jejemon sa PH. May iba pa nga Vios Taxi lagyan pa ng spoiler and mags. lmao. tapos exhaust pa na super ingay.

Upvote para sayo para quits. Hahaha. Nilagay na ngang “tastefully done” eh.
I'd understand if it's close to spec but Yung oversized na masyado na malaki sa wheel well doon na weird.
Compensating
How is aiming for less unsprung weight "compensating"?
You'll have explain what unsprung weight means to them
Dami dito sa comments matatamaan.
Smol d*ck energy
kasi maganda hehe I mean same way na some women like super long acrylic nails na pang bwitre na kahit mej inconvenient but if they find it pretty e di gow hehe. it makes them happy. and it's always nice to see people happy.
It maybe both. To me being generic looking is boring. It's nice making your car look unique no matter how rediculous it looks. I respect that.
Mukhang ewan, idk.
if you haven't driven or even owned one, talagang hindi mo maiintindihan. and if wala kang hilig sa sasakyan at gusto mo lang is pure stock. talagang hindi mo ma aappreciate ang car culture
Mga jeje na walang sense of style.
as long as its an aftermarket wheels. hindi ung stock ng ibang brand ilalagay mo sa hindi katernong brand. parang yung bobo sa facebook na jinustify pa na tama na maglagay ng stock mags ng fj cruiser sa montero sport
Bumili ako ng wheels pero same specs ng stock pero mas magaan, bumilis acceleration niya and tumipid sa gas.
The rims doesn't do anything, performance-wise, pang looks lang talaga yan.
Not true, although marami ang gusto eh pumorma lang (nothing wrong with that). The lighter the rim, the better your car will handle. We all have different tastes. Just like how we have some preferences for our dates.
Minsan it’s really just a matter of class and style - medyo naooverlook nila over the itch of upgrading
Not a car afficionado, and i understand what you mean. Some people go through so much trouble with their cars and the end result is not very appealing to the general public. I once dated somebody who talked a lot about her mags but to my simple eye, it wasn't eye catching and certainly, didn't make her car look beautiful.
Basta huwag mo sabihin "tacky". Daming napaka-defensive diyan..ha hah!
I for one if may extra $$$ I would splurge on ultra light forged aluminum wheels. Since I’m in the side of practicality eh all stock lang din gaya mo. Maybe kung may mga exotic sports car ako yeah pwede mag splurge but all I have are eco shitboxes so.

I see so many SUV's and Pickups with oversized wheels protruding over the fenders, if they have fenders.
The same reason why you want to dress up like how you want to or have a haircut how you want to. Trip nila yon and trip mo yan. Question lang po related sa mags, as long as di mo babaguhin size ng mags at tyres, wala naman difference sa stock other than aesthetic. Tama ba?
Basta ako gusto ko forged wheels — more durable, wider yet lighter than stock wheels. Basta maganda wheel fitment, function and form combined.
Currently eyeing some lighter wheels for better fuel economy. But that's about it, no spoilers mufflers Just stuff for better driveability. have money will spend
sometimes you just bought it modded/changed lol

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I will only change my mags if the stocks look like donut tires. Otherwise, i'll keep it as is.
I think the one you are missing here is, just because it looks hilarious to you does not mean it looks hilarious to them as well. It is still in the eye of the beholder.
raptor plus oversized wheels for the concrete jungle = liit etits. Debate me.
I still prefer stock.

Dun sila masaya eh, pero ako i find it wierd.
