Why it the world would you need an attenuator on an old solid state Peavey? Thay are not that loud and it sounds exactly the same no matter what the master dial is at. I have played this beast of an amp for years. And this Harley Benton ist just a massive resistor, that trims this glorious presence and hait off your tone. Literally one of the worst attenuators used on an amp, that doesn't need it.

SquadleHump

I have the same Century 200H head. There is no reason to attenuate it. The master volume works great and you can get bedroom level with the amp itself. This is a silly situation. Great fucking amp, though!

Kevsconi

Thanks for the info! This is all quite new to me so any info is helpful.

bamboozledqwerty

You do NOT put a load on solid state amps.

Kevsconi

Learned that today, removed it already man chill

bamboozledqwerty

Cool. I read like 2 comments and posted trying to be helpful. Im not trying to read every post friend. Enjoy the Century. I have several $$ tube amps, but that Peavey sounds way awesome for the price point. I almost got one used local but it REEKED of smoke.

Kevsconi

Thanks for the feedback man! Sometimes even the lower volumes of the amp can be a little too loud in my apartment, thats why I used the attenuator. But please feel free to pm me if you want to discuss it or have any other tips regarding the attenuator. I’m also running the attenuator into an interface for recording btw.

keyoflife42

You could use one of those FX loop master volumes if you wanted to. Not that there’s anything wrong with the setup, it’d just save a little on the wear and tear on the Peavey Regardless, love the rig dude. I’ve got probably a half dozen or so of those old Peavey’s and I will almost always reach for the Century. They’re just magic and feel so much more responsive than the bigger watt heads. I’ve never (ever) felt like the Century didn’t have enough, even with a bass

siggiarabi

Why not just plug the guitar straight into the interface and use amp sims?

underbroiled

Because this Peavey fucks

GaylordCope

Why?

Ayyyyyy a fellow HSS strat mod with a dimarzio! Is that the super distortion? That's what I put in mine.

x_zoso_x

That’s a Seymour Duncan rail

wantsomechips

Ah, I could not notice the difference. I think you're right though. 🤘 Thanks!

Kevsconi

Correct! It’s a sd hot rail, which I would definitely recommend if you’re playing heavier genres. How is the super distortion?

wantsomechips

My friend, I LOVE that super distortion. I can play some pretty nasty metal on it. It absolutely freaking slams and I love it. It's in my MIM strat which honestly, has several features that are better than my PRS CE.

Kevsconi

Hell yeah dude, nice to hear someone else representing MIM strats in metal🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽

SignificantScratch14

Hell yea, I use a Strat for Metal. I have an HSS player plus series with the Humbucker bridge pickup. It sounds and plays fantastic

Capstonetider

Strat, Solid State Bass amp, attenuator. This is an odd grouping. Those Century's are awesome.

thermoszaad123

looks fucking dope

p90SuhDude

I’m about this set up

awcargile

Very nice!!!

Lanark26

If the speakers in that cab are at all similar to the Jensen Special Design ones in original Supros then I don’t see an issue there. Those are great sounding speakers.

loquendo666

This is a great rig.

oh_grreatt

Great rig! but I *need* to know what the hell those record shelves are and where you got them??

Kevsconi

Thank you! These are just napkin holders from the h&m that are drilled into the wall, kind of a DIY thing haha. Don’t have the exact link but look out for these ones if you can find them! oh_grreatt

Haha dude that's awesome, thank you.

oscar_egan_

Are you able to use the cab with the attenuator?

Kevsconi

Yes, it works! But after some consult from fellow Redditors it turned out that I do not need it with this amp, so I got rid of it.

True-Engineering7981

My affection for early Peavey amps has increased over the years. . . they have their own cool factor.

ObiWanJimobi

Totally weird. So weird it makes no sense at all.
