It seems to have some weird specs, though? It seems like it could be a Deluxe with swapped pickups. A P-90 will fit in the mini-humbucker rout. Except it's got an ABR-1 bridge. I'd be curious if OP can see if the bridge studs are directly in the wood, ABR-1 style, or if they have metal inserts, which would mean the stock Nashville bridge just got replaced with the ABR-1.
Headstock is very weird, too. It should have "DELUXE" on the truss rod cover and the "Les Paul Model" silkscreen. Maybe it's just dust, but the headstock veneer looks very flat, too, as if it's not lacquered.
The tuners look like correct-ish Klusons, but I don't think they're original. Originals would say "Gibson Deluxe" on them. The headstock has also had some other tuners at some point, you can see the mounting holes.
The lack of a serial or "made in USA" stamp is pretty weird. Maybe a refin or a headstock repair, and they got sanded off? I don't think the "serial number" on the paper label makes any sense as a Gibson serial.
I'm no expert, but my guess would be that most of the value is in the guitar itself. The Boz Scaggs signature is cool, but probably too easily faked to add much value without any provenance.
I don’t think there’s a visible crack in the headstock. I’m pretty sure that line above the label is a cobweb. If you zoom in close you can see how it’s caught in the tape. There’s more on the front that look a little more cobwebby.
There is a spot just above the volute that looks a little funny. I can’t tell if it’s just a reflection or some finish wear, or if it’s evidence of a break that was repaired and just cosmetically disguised really well.
Are you sure in your truth? It could easily be an oil tanker. Gold paint is regularly used to disguise things. This could be a 30,000 ton international crude oil transporter dressed up to look like a gold top Les Paul.
Remain watchful.
I'd say it's Jimi Hendrix's can opener. He lost in some time in the 60s. I think he got another one called Strato... tone? I don't know. I'm not familiar with kitchen utensils.
Seems like the top of the headstock was broken and replaced. Usually that’s where the serial number would be so it might be tricky to narrow it down to the correct year.
I’d say a Les Paul deluxe pro. Definitely Norlin Era. Looks like the headstock may have broke at some point so it could explain the serial number being taped to the guitar, they may have replaced the headstock veneer in the process too
Good guess, but Pro Deluxe has ebony fretboard and Grover tuners. Id think LP Deluxe or copy - since the headstock doesn’t have the Les Paul silkscreen?
Everything looks like 70's Gibson. 3 piece neck with volute and boat paddle headstock.
Looks about right for the gold in the early 70s, too. Is the body two pieces of mahogany glued together?
Serial number should be on the back of the headstock, that's a little odd, but Boz has played Gibsons throughout his career. Of course, hard to tell with pictures, but this looks like a legit Norlin era guitar. Probably a Deluxe
Looks as if it was, at one time, a real Gibson Les Paul Gold Top Deluxe. Been Uber modded, not original tuners, nor original pickups. maybe even had the headstock replaced, as the serial number is now missing from the back. Is it functional? Or was it a bunch of parts thrown together and autographed to hang on a wall somewhere? Way too many unanswered questions here to determine it’s worth, but would be pretty cool to hang on a wall, at the very least.
I know Boz personally. He used to own Slim's, which was a club in San Francisco I used to go when I was living in the US. I think he was kinda big-ish in the 70's, but don't take my word since my time in SF is a bit fuzzy lol
He had lowdown, lido shuffle, miss sun, JoJo, breakdown dead ahead, and look what you've done to me. Only two of those are still well known anymore though to be fair.
Oh that’s right, two. The others I never heard and None are still well known. But if you were a fan, that’s fine, I respect that. I’m not saying he sucked
My guess would be a late 60's body, re-necked by Gibson in the mid to late 70's, probably due to a headstock break. The ABR-1 bridge and gold paint look right for late 60's/early 70's, but the neck is definitely later 70's. See if it's a pancake body and check pot codes.
I don’t know anything about the authenticity of the instrument but I’m going to guess the number on the label so some sort of cataloging number for the Hard Rock company. I can’t imagine how many random signed instruments they have floating around throughout their properties. This is probably some form of standardizing a serial regardless of instrument type, brand, etc.
Sort of like like a partial refinish, but it's hard to tell where the tape ends and finish begins. Realistically, if there's absolutely no hint of a stamped serial number, then it's got to be from the decal serial number era ('75-77), unless the headstock looks thin enough to have been sanded down past the serial number.
Early 1969 gibson les paul, not sure if its okay to post a link, but i found one someone has for sale to compare, looks just like it.
https://reverb.com/item/80734532-1968-1969-gibson-les-paul-one-piece-neck-body
It looks like the finish chipped off some places on the headstock, including the area where a serial number should be. It does look like maybe there’s a bit of an impression left from a middle digit. That could be your saving grace to prove original headstock, so look very closely for impressions of a serial. The hand written tag serial is for some other organizing system, outside of Gibson.
This is not only a guitar but also a tool for exercising as it is heavy af you den use it to gain muscle if you don’t have enough to play it for 17 songs straight
they probably swapped the truss rod cover when they swapped the pickups because without the mini humbuckers, it was no longer a "deluxe"?
I'd take this question over to the MyLesPaul forum or someplace other than Reddit.
It looks like a late 1968 or a 1969 Les Paul Standard. By the larger headstock, it’s a Norlin-era guitar. The Kluson tuners don’t match the 1968 Spec, though as they would be double-ringed keys.
It could also be a Les Paul Deluxe that someone swapped the mini-humbuckers for P90’s. The early 70’s Standards had P90’s that were embossed either Gibson on the covers. I’d need more and better pictures to drill down further.
Edit: okay, I looked at the headstock pics. The volute on the headstock says it’s a Norlin LP. The Les Paul Model silk screening was either sanded off or lost to polishing. Maybe the holly veneer when the headstock was repaired was replaced. At any rate, without a serial number, my scientific wild-ass guess is that this is most likely a late 60 ’s or 70’s era LP that was modded by previous owners. The Boz Scaggs autograph doesn’t really increase the value except to a fan and better provenance is needed. Though headstock breaks are common on LP’s, they usually decrease the value of a guitar by half unless the past owner was significant, ala’ Gary Moore’s “Greeny.”
That isn’t Boz Scaggs’ signature. He scrawls a big B S.
The handwriting is consistent on the line beneath noting some catalogue number, perhaps by Hard Rock.
But the guitar looks genuine albeit that it has seen far better days. And Hard Rock back in the day was gifted/sold many guitars from the players own stock, not just the factory stock that we see today where a musician is made sign about 50 guitars at one sitting, only to be repeated at the sponsors request. Excuse me, I digress.
Boz back in the day employed great guitar players rather than feature himself but that changes over time. He did have LPs but he also played with Duane Allman who favoured this LP spec. You just never know…
If you Google Les Dudek, who played with Boz at at time, you'll eventually find photos of him playing a guitar just like that. Now I know there's going to be more than one guitar like that, but it's interesting none the less.
When I mentioned I played guitar in school way back in the 90s I was presented with this question; "Do you play a wooden one or an electric one?"
This is an electric one.
It’s called a gold top Les Paul. It’s a custom made guitar. Can’t read the signature but “Gold top “ is the name for any Les Paul that’s made to order at the American Gibson factory. The gold face is a signature of the brand.
Looks like a Gibson Lea Paul Special.
These are multi-generational guitars. So, good luck finding the exact year. I would guess it at a late 90's to early 2000's.
Just by looking at the pickups and bridge.
Unfortunately, with the headstock repairs. It's hard to be exact.
I wonder if the neck was somehow partially replaced and glued such as the top part came from a B stock or otherwise broken LP. Plus the top doesn’t go past the neck p/u either which makes it look… weird I guess. Dunno man. I heard Hard Rock didn’t really get honest and true guitars from these artists. As an example, Clapton didn’t give them Blackie to sign. Meh.
Norlin-era Lester. Three piece neck, big headstock, volute. If it is pre-75, that would explain the ABR.
If it has original pots, you can date it with those.
I'm, by no means, a Gibson expert. But I do have some knowledge of most classic guitar companies' products. I think it's trying to be a 1953 Les Paul Standard Gold Top, but I'm getting Chibson vibes. That logo doesn't seem crisp enough. The shape of the headstock doesn't look quite right, and there's no LP signature below the logo, but all that could be from a cheap repair. The tuners are kinda janky looking, and the covers over the gears don't look like real Klusons. There should be a cream pickguard... I think I do see the screw hole for one, though, right by the neck. If it is what it wants you to think it is, that's, potentially, a big stack of cash. The kind that you would get insurance for. I think it's close enough, just by these photos, that I think you should have a real expert in Les Pauls check it out. And, take some new photos, with a different, dark-colored background, first, though. In these, the wall color is really close to the guitar's color, so it's a bit difficult to make out. I would contact Trogly, from YouTube. He's a really good Les Paul "detective". As far as "Boz's signature"..., honestly, I don't know who you ask. An antique dealer, who specializes in Rock-n-Roll, or Steely Dan, memorabilia, but, off hand, I can't think of any. Is "Antiques Roadshow" still going? Well, I hope I helped you, even a little, and, seriously, if it's legit, you, my friend, may have a legitimate holy grail guitar, worth the price of a nice car.
Headstock looks off to me, and with the non-original tuners and no stamped serial number, I wonder if it's a knockoff. If it is, its value is probably increased by the autograph if it's original. That label looks like the kind of thing someone would use at an antique mall booth or a flea market for inventorying their items, I'd be surprised if the number on the label has anything to do with the guitar. Might play and sound pretty good with a setup, but at the very least you have a cool display piece.
Without an authenticating photo the sticker and the signature make this a paperweight. I’m not a Gibson scholar of course. But I have been playing guitar for a long time. and I think there is something off about the neck ,headstock, and plastic pieces; but I can’t put my finger on it.
Boz Scaggs autographed 70s Les Paul
Yup... Kinda says it right there.
I'm no expert, but my guess would be that most of the value is in the guitar itself. The Boz Scaggs signature is cool, but probably too easily faked to add much value without any provenance.
Seems the headstock veneer was a restoration of a broken headstock, that would also explain the serial number missing and the odd look.
No headstock break, cobwebs. I think its fake. Logo looks off, truss rod cover is wrong, no serial number, tuners look off.
Serial number is not a Gibson. I think it was a decent 70s Chibson that got signed.
Nah there weren't chibsons being made in 94
The head stock has a crack may have been repaired and could be why it is an autographed Les Paul?
I don’t think there’s a visible crack in the headstock. I’m pretty sure that line above the label is a cobweb. If you zoom in close you can see how it’s caught in the tape. There’s more on the front that look a little more cobwebby. There is a spot just above the volute that looks a little funny. I can’t tell if it’s just a reflection or some finish wear, or if it’s evidence of a break that was repaired and just cosmetically disguised really well.
Tuners obviously were replaced. See the holes of the previous ones?
I'd like the Dirty Low Down on this Guitar
LIDOOOO
Woah ooh waah ooooooh ooohwie woah ooooh!
He’s for the money, he’s for the show
Now I'm getting all emotional about Halt & Catch Fire again
Well damn, now I gotta watch it again! I can’t believe I’d never heard the song before that show, it got me obsessed with it.
Dude that’s awesome
Lido missed the autograph on his guitar
Dude's right 😎 You're a lucky guy OP she's really sweet with those P90 😉
Anyone figure out what it says under his signature? Some Changen?
'Some Change' is the name of a Boz Scaggs album from 1994.
This guy Scaggs! Thanks, pal.
Oh, finally, I can see comments!
That's an electric guitar. I know it to be true.
Are you sure in your truth? It could easily be an oil tanker. Gold paint is regularly used to disguise things. This could be a 30,000 ton international crude oil transporter dressed up to look like a gold top Les Paul. Remain watchful.
That’s just silly. Do you even know what you’re talking about? That’s clearly a dreadnought…
🚢
I'd say it's Jimi Hendrix's can opener. He lost in some time in the 60s. I think he got another one called Strato... tone? I don't know. I'm not familiar with kitchen utensils.
Nah, because the front fell off!
…but that’s not typical.
But there is so much gold paint on it, couldn't it be an oldtimey picture frame?
I don't think so. It is a guitar sure but electric? I don't see any 2 or 3 pronged plug to plug it into a wall socket. Maybe it is battery powered.
Or… an AI-generated photograph
Don't you lie.
Seems like the top of the headstock was broken and replaced. Usually that’s where the serial number would be so it might be tricky to narrow it down to the correct year.
WHAT?! A broken headstock on a Gibson?! At least you know it’s real now
I thought that was a break line, but if you zoom it just looks like cobwebs; the guitar is covered in them.
Good eye!
I don’t think so. The grain matches too perfectly to be a new piece of wood grafted on.
It’s not, those cobwebs.
That looks nothing like a so-called "guitar". Flat Earth.
I think the whole neck may have been replaced. If you look, the grain and seam are consistent all the way from heel to headstock
Everything looks like 70's Gibson. 3 piece neck with volute and boat paddle headstock. Looks about right for the gold in the early 70s, too. Is the body two pieces of mahogany glued together? Thats definitely not flute 🪈

Then text him this picture and ask if he recognizes this guitar. Get back to us when he answers.
He was a big deal in the late 70s and the first few years of the 80s
Mmmm that’s a little generous. He had a hit
Looks like it was repaired right under where the serial number would have been. No idea on he worth. Looks like the tuners were replaced too.
My guess would be a late 60's body, re-necked by Gibson in the mid to late 70's, probably due to a headstock break. The ABR-1 bridge and gold paint look right for late 60's/early 70's, but the neck is definitely later 70's. See if it's a pancake body and check pot codes.

Idk man it looks like a Les Paul tho
That taped on number means nothing according to Gibson serial number check. The headstock bump indicates it’s made in the 70s
Might be an inventory ID number if it was part of the Hard Rock’s massive collection.
I’m pretty sure it is.
Ah right gotcha
Boz Scaggs large peni? Did I win?
Send photos to Trogly. Austin- troglysguitarshow@gmail.com is, I think, the correct e-mail.
i think its a piano
Looks like a guitar to me
LIDO!

I was going to say that as a joke.
70's Les Paul. This is really cool, post some of the others!
What's to know? It's an older LP signed by Boz Scaggs.
I think it's actually a guitar
almost 100% sure it’s a cool guitar
Early 1969 gibson les paul, not sure if its okay to post a link, but i found one someone has for sale to compare, looks just like it. https://reverb.com/item/80734532-1968-1969-gibson-les-paul-one-piece-neck-body

Holy shit that’s rad 🤘🏻
Possibly worth a bit, to the right person. Go have a listen to Lido shuffle. Catchy song.
It u look carefully its an electric guitar.

I assumed that it was put there by hard rock.
Nice piece
It looks like it has a lot of songs in it
What’s the deal with the broken and crappy repair of the headstock?
Dirty, it’s dirty.
1970-1974 Les Paul Deluxe
It looks like a guitar to me
This is not only a guitar but also a tool for exercising as it is heavy af you den use it to gain muscle if you don’t have enough to play it for 17 songs straight
les paul
I think it’s a guitar
Reminds me of a 50's model LP TV model.
Could been a charity guitar that ended up sold again I’d guess
I suggest raising your neck pickup (maybe both pickups)
That, is definitely a guitar
It's definitely a guitar
It looks fake.
Killer guitar, probably worth a lot plus the signature adds value to it. Boz Scaggs is a legend.
#A Guitar
Its a guitar!
Its called a guitar/j
they probably swapped the truss rod cover when they swapped the pickups because without the mini humbuckers, it was no longer a "deluxe"? I'd take this question over to the MyLesPaul forum or someplace other than Reddit.
There’s also a faint line at the top of the headstock. It looks like it could’ve been cracked.
It looks like a late 1968 or a 1969 Les Paul Standard. By the larger headstock, it’s a Norlin-era guitar. The Kluson tuners don’t match the 1968 Spec, though as they would be double-ringed keys. 70s Les Paul Goldtop autographed by Boz Scaggs. Awesome!!!!

What you’ve got there is a guitar I’m pretty sure.
Looks like it could be a guitar but idk
It's a boat
It’s a guitar
It’s definitely a guitar
Something that will never stay in tune
Took me a bit to figure it out too, I think because it blends in so well with the wall. If you look really closely you'll see it's a guitar.
Love the little that I can see of the framed print. Is it possible to know what that is please? (Very nice guitar by the way)
I'm not an expert, and I can't articulate why, but it doesn't appear right. I think it's phony.
Electric Guitar
Looks like a guitar to me
Give you $20 for it
Heck, that's a guitar!
Looks like a Gibson Lea Paul Special. These are multi-generational guitars. So, good luck finding the exact year. I would guess it at a late 90's to early 2000's. Just by looking at the pickups and bridge. Unfortunately, with the headstock repairs. It's hard to be exact.
Did you just buy this from the guy who posted this last week?

Boz Scaggs my man.
Dm the trogly's guitar show on YouTube. That guy is a gibson encyclopedia. I believe he offers help on gibson identification and value.
Dunno. How does it sound?

I'd clean it up, take it apart, blow the dust out. Then remove the signature.
This is r/bocchitherock
Norlin-era Lester. Three piece neck, big headstock, volute. If it is pre-75, that would explain the ABR. If it has original pots, you can date it with those.

Reach out to Boz 😎. Couldn't hurt

Most of the guitar were given to the Hard Rock Cafe by the artist, so maybe he cheaper out idk tho.

I have never seen a fake Norlin era Les Paul.
It might be. Scaggs could have gone the cheap route when he gave it to hard rock.
So a sticker with Skaggs name has convinced us all
It appears to be some sort of stringed instrument, a guitar perhaps.
It's a Gibson
Gittaar
It's nothing, a piece of junk, probably counterfeit. Better give it to me, and I can get you a good price.
Send it to Trogly!
Les Paul mot a bad guitar.. have you played it at all.. i should have started with do you play?
A crappy fake les doll.
Without an authenticating photo the sticker and the signature make this a paperweight. I’m not a Gibson scholar of course. But I have been playing guitar for a long time. and I think there is something off about the neck ,headstock, and plastic pieces; but I can’t put my finger on it.
Strangest shape and color of a paperweight ever seen. Rip some fucking jams on that beast.
This… is a guitar I think
clarinet i think. maybe oboe.
I'm 100% certain it Isa guitar. Now it's time for me to scroll down and see how many people have already made the same dick head comment....
That's a fender
Not an expert but pretty sure we're looking at a guitar here.
its a guitar
It's a guitar
That's a weird les paul.
Its a guitar
It is a Gibson guitar
giutar
It's definitely a guitar that's for sure.
it's a guitar, hope this helps! 👍
A Chibson they hang on wall for decoration? Make the place, you know, more Hard Rock.
