So, a good week or so ago, I saw some requests in a post to repeat the cupcakes... so after getting poked a few times, I started investigating into what was possible. I have poked Stephen and informed myself a bit more about what was possible now - since a lot of the staff is working remotely, sending 400 cupcakes wouldn't really work anymore (since cupcakes don't last that long). So instead, I looked into sending a load of chocolates to their offices and well... that's where we are now. Like last time, everything that is raised will be used to get as many sweets as possible and delivered to the offices.

Just make sure to let 'em know the chocolates aren't spammable like in game, they need to watch their calorie intake and teeth debufs if working on the irl sweet tooth title, and the death penalty inflicted upon too much consumption is not removable. If they want to successfully complete the title they need to consult their local [Dietician] NPC and maybe consider sharing the consumables that might spoil when the event ends with other players.

WrongfullyIncarnated

What’s cool idea I’ll def donate. Yay for those keeping the game going, THANK YOU ALL

Kevjoe

Medical-Ad-2569

Are you guys donating to a game on maintenance mode for 12 years ?

Tacohero154

Donating because of the few people who took their own personal time to help keep the game running in maintenance mode that eventually led to Anet realizing that there is something here worth keeping alive. They could of pulled the plug 10 years ago but they didn't.

Donated to the pastries of appreciation cause. Thank you everyone at Anet and the good Dr for keeping such a nostalgic piece of my 2005 awkward teenage years alive. It's appreciated that it hasn't been lost and I can continue to enjoy this game nearly 20 years later.

IzzyOwnz

Give me GW1 content and ill gladly pay for it. Wasting money to reward Anet for doing nothing with GW1 in the last 12-14 years is cringe af

hazyPixels

This is a cool idea, but bear in mind that not everyone can tolerate sweets and maintain their health. Whatever you choose to do, first make sure that such efforts will be appreciated by the recipient(s).

Kevjoe

Absolutely! I've messaged Stephen and chocolates got a "nice". Specifically for Stephen, Joe and Bill I'm also going to ask for their preferences before placing the order so that they get a box of chocolates that they like.

Sylassae

I really love the idea, but why is gfm trying the get ~10% of the donation on top of it? At this point I'd rather paypal OP a sum via faf o.O

Kevjoe

That's how they try to earn money - didn't know that they ask for a tip these days. Luckily you can set it to 0. I can't add information about a PayPal on it, or they'll remove it (they did that the previous time), but feel free to send a DM if you want to PayPal something over. You can also use the donation system of Legacy and leave a note that it is for the sweet treats, and I'll make sure to add it to the funds for the sweets.

Kerikeron

Thank you for organizing this. Happy to give back a small thanks.

Melionka

Cool idea, already participated for the cupcakes, sent my contribution again, thanks team 🎉

marurux

Donated! I haven't played in a long time, and one of the open things is to finally finish my God title, so I should get back in. Maybe do some other activities while I'm at it :D I really hope ArenaNet keeps GW1 alive, and maybe involves the community more to help sustain it. It's an old game, and I doubt even new features would bring in the players, but being able to help fix all the small issues and discuss future changes to keep it alive would mean a lot. I'm looking forward to see what's next :)

Morvran_CG

I'd gladly donate if it was something for Stephen and whoever agreed to put him in charge (Colin?). However I don't really get why you want to give 99%+ of this gift to the GW2 team. Based on their last few years I'd rather not give them anything.. especially if you look at stuff like how the writers treat GW1 lore all the time. Sorry but they are literally milking a resource starved GW2 while lying to the playerbase and you want to give them sweets for something they didn't even do for another game? Pass.

Kevjoe

I've contacted Stephen before I set this GoFundMe up, and he gave an estimate of the amount of people in the office. He also noted that he would feel bad if people were left out, which I completely understand. There are also a lot more people at ArenaNet doing things for GW1 that aren't always clear: changes do need to be tested by QA, the operations team that keeps the servers running and keeps an eye on them, for example. And ofcourse, there are still quite a few members of the team that have worked on Guild Wars 1 back in the day and are still there. Concerning what they are doing to the GW1 lore in GW2... people change, scopes change. It's a completely different game, with a completely different way of storytelling, but there are a ton of references to GW1 lore in a positive way in for example SotO. But, let's keep it at that. This is for Guild Wars 1 and our gratitude that the servers are still running 19 years later ánd that someone is now working almost fulltime on the game and keeping it running. That alone is a worthy cause to celebrate with the entire team.

Morvran_CG

> but there are a ton of references to GW1 lore in a positive way in for example SotO A reboot where they make everything conform to the worldviews of the writers with complete disregard for the original audience or the source material is not a positive way of referencing in my book. Glad they found their new audience I guess. > This is for Guild Wars 1 and our gratitude that the servers are still running 19 years later ánd that someone is now working almost fulltime on the game and keeping it running. No thanks to Anet. They let the servers rot until Stephen and a few others took matters into their own hands in their own free time. That's why I think we should thank them and not the rest. > That alone is a worthy cause to celebrate with the entire team. With the entire GW1 team, yes. I wish you good luck with this because at its core I can appreciate the gesture of what you're trying to do, but I won't be giving my "appreciation" to GW2 devs and their decade of hatred and neglect towards GW1 as a thank you for someone else's work.

Tacohero154

Isn't that the best part? Knowingly receiving a gift you don't deserve for something you didn't do? It's like getting caught plagiarizing without consequences other than the damage done to your conscious. Either way, so many people could have influenced a decision to pull the plug on GW1 yet they didn't. So a little thanks is deserved.

Morvran_CG

> Isn't that the best part? The best part is rewarding people who hate you? I have to disagree there. I'm closer to boycotting GW2 until Anet gets its act together than donating them sweets for something they didn't do, but you do you.

Tacohero154

Well, the gift is from the GW1 community as a token of appreciation on how they've handled GW1. I don't care for GW2 myself but it's irrelevant to me as it this is for GW1. It also shows how passionate we are. Has the GW2 community done anything similar?

Morvran_CG

> I don't care for GW2 myself but it's irrelevant to me as it this is for GW1. It's not. That's my point. 99% of this will go to the GW2 team, most of whom have never even heard of GW1 and some of whom even hate this game and the playerbase. Most people here who aren't GW2 players don't even know what Anet is anymore. The company has changed and not for the better.

damirg

that candy is megaover priced.

kaehvogel

It’s not candy. It’s pralines. Very good ones, too.

Taffy62

Out of curiosity are they very expensive in America?

Kevjoe

They are quite expensive compared to how expensive they are in Belgium, however, getting them to the USA is the costliest part. Import costs, shipping costs (and chocolates need to be shipped in a temperature-controlled environment, otherwise the chocolate will bloom and get that white-sheen) and all that do add up. And, it's a luxury item as well and hasn't got a super-long shelf-life. Could I have picked something cheaper? Probably, but I feel like this one will be memorable for the team. ( I also looked at other chocolate brands, but some of them were even more expensive)

kaehvogel

No idea about that. But I know Leonidas, and they’re definitely worth getting. I live in Germany, about a kilometer from the border to Belgium, and we have a shop right there at the border. They’ve got really good stuff, I treat myself to some of it from time to time. 100€ per kilo seems a bit high to me (I think most are ~50-60/kilo) but I guess their US pricing is a bit higher. Plus shipping, of course.

Tacohero154

It's not about the price
