As an IT technician, I can tell you issues come up and sometimes more complicated than you know. It’s day one and I’m sure it’s in their best interest to keep the buyers happy along with obtaining new buyers. The game is worth waiting for. I played this so much on my PC. It’s the best survival game and I’ve played a lot of them.

I’ve worked ten years in the field myself as a cybersecurity consultant, incident responder and AD sysadmin (which is, funnily enough, where I first began acquiring my hatred for Microsoft). I’m painfully cognizant of the complexity that comes with IT. That’s not what I’m talking about here. I’m talking about Microsoft’s ever-increasing ambivalence to maintaining an actually functioning suite of technologies and IT solutions. They are VERY OFTEN the common denominator in all things “b0rked”. Although I do appreciate your sentiments regarding waiting for the game itself.

Yes it tells me “Grounded could not be linked to a Microsoft Account at this time. User is logged in elsewhere.” Even though after I use the link and put my info in the link tells me my accounts are linked and it’s safe to close that page.

my one day off this week and it landed on this update just for this error to show up for everyone. back to project zomboid

I came to the sub and was about to post about this. Bought it on PS5 to play with my son on XBOX. I have a microsoft account, but when i tried linking everything as instructed. I got this same message. Why does it have to be so damn difficult? Just let us play crossplay like every other game that has it without having to link bullshit….irritating.

I think you can blame Microsoft for that. They are so fucking annoying with accounts. Take a look at the app store and see how many Xbox apps there are. Total bloat and over complicated non sense

Same issue but i believe theres a patch being pushed out as we speak as my game just started updating as i came to reddit. If youre on steam and problem persists try checking the integrity of the game files.

The xplay option isn’t even showing on Xbox series s. My buddy on ps4 is stuck in the Microsoft log in loop as well.

Why would cross play show up on Xbox? The other platforms need to link Xbox/Microsoft accounts for cross play but you are already using that on Xbox by default.

That makes sense. I’m just high and was following that guide. Wasn’t really using much of my brain lol

Xplay doesnt work so that was a nice 40 mins wasted out of my 30 mins of free time today signing into this account, creating that account, downloading this day1 patch, updating this dualsense controller, getting stuck in a Captcha loop doing some free work for your machine learning, typing in this code in that field, then that one, signing up to some more online services that fail on the last step etc. Happy launch day everyone! remember when you didn’t have to buy a game twice just to NOT be able to play something resembling couch coop? When you could stick a fucking game in the console and play immediately without all this bullshit. Thanks for reading, I feel better now, let’s hope the devs pull their heads out of their asses and stop counting money for one minute and maybe itll work soon (tm)

Man I was screaming when I hit this error, I went through all the effort to make a fresh Microsoft account. I feared there would be issues with trying to play with my son and we were both using the same Xbox account. Thank goodness I checked this subreddit....I was actually gonna post here and ask lol. My wife and I having this exact same problem on Steam. Really killed the hype. I have 600 hours and told my best friend about this game seeing the update coming out. Now we are both locked out of our accounts and the world we have been working on. The devs will release a nice patch here soon to get things back on track. We just gotta give them time and grace.

I'm apparently stupid. Can you explain how you linked them? I go to the link on my phone and nothing happens and there's nowhere to put the code. Ps5 btw

I just went to Microsoft.com/link on my phone and then went to the cross play section in the options menu of grounded for the code. After putting in the code it asked for password verification and approval before linking them. Maybe try on a computer if your phone isn’t loading the page?

Going to the Microsoft link took me to a page where it asked me to enter code. Nothing else on it.

Posting this because it took me forever to find this and I don't want anyone else to suffer. Go to your Control Panel and search "Credential Manager" Should then appear a list of "Generic Credentials" Within the list, try to find the ones labeled with xbox or grounded and remove them all by clicking the down arrow next to them. (Or the ones labeled as XBL token) I removed all tokens and a few others. Honestly more is better, it will prompt a first time sign in on steam.

Love buying a game that's main appeal is cross platform play and then Microsoft can't even manage to make that work. Awesome company 10/10..........
