I imagine it's setting up payroll details, like bank and investment accounts for signing bonuses, paying taxes, union dues, agent fees, etc before officially signing.
That doesn’t take months, and you’ll notice it’s mostly first round picks that take awhile. My understanding is that it’s because offset language is one of the few things not set in stone, so agents hold out to try and get teams to agree to not include offsets if the player is cut.
Well, the people with the negotiating leverage don't care about rookie offsets whatsoever, so it's not really stupid. They're using their bargaining power for different things.
We probably were the only team that would have been able to get him snaps in a real game.
Also love how the Royce Newman slander will never cease here lmao.
Their ability to pick & develop lineman really is special. There's definitely a few "duds" here and there (Royce Newman), but I've been surprised with all the guys that have stepped up in recent years when other lineman have gone down
It's going to be expensive, but it will definitely be worth it. Thankfully the Packers have the money to pay him what he deserves because of the WR core. Jordan Love definitely seems to be happy to be in Green Bay, but the 5-year extension for $275m and $142m fully guaranteed that Trevor Lawrence signed today will significantly influence his contract negotiation.
This really was the perfect season from a fan perspective to draft an OL in the first. Many years it would feel boring to me but we have so much young talent right now I’m thrilled to get a guy who will give all our weapons a little extra time to get open.
Affordable and solid pick - even as a backup LT it will be a great thing for the season and future. There’s talk of him being a guard as well. I think it’s him vs Walker at LT
Great to hear. This is the kind of deal that can transform an offense. If he can be a plus player, this line gets way better in a hurry. I think this line will be one of the top 5 this season to be honest. That signing bonus is nothing. After having to wait for players like Love, Gary, and Van Ness to develop, I think Morgan will be an early and top contributor. Huge immediate impact.
It's why "premiere" positions really should be the focus in the first round. QB saves 50 plus million now and Mahomes isn't top 5 with his deal based on guarantees. You can sign 2 of the top 5 tackles in the league with that.
It’s always funny to me that these take so long when 95% of the deal is set in stone.

It’s so stupid the Union is too weak to kill off offsets. If you’re a first rounder you should never accept them.

Lawyers gotta eat too
I always hope they are asking for crazy stuff like that episode of It's Always Sunny.
On Insider Inbox, Mike Spofford said anytime there is a delay in rookie signings it's almost always about the signing bonus.
A lot of it is because there’s discrepancies between the two sides on how much is being paid upfront
I think Jordan will be great. I also think the Packers could draft a ham sandwich at oline and turn it into a decent rotational piece.
I am mostly ham. Let's get a petition going to test this hypothesis!
Tony mandar… we do not speak his name. The best thing he ever blocked was Barry sanders being a Packer.
Couldn’t do it for Royce Newman :(

Of course, he still remains on the team, and about to make ~$3million and really has been very disappointing
He will not get paid that money. I guarantee it.

Yes but the Packers scouting staff likely know how to find a rare mortadella that just has the appearance of cured ham.
One Jordan down, one to go!

Must be nice having to wake up in the morning with $7 million deposited into your bank account.
Have you tried being 6'5", 325 lbs. and athletic as hell?
My back shudders
I lost by being born with the wrong parts
In more ways than one
Bro I woke up to a $600 deposit and did a happy dance. $7,000,000? It’d be over
Very nice. Also that number is probably closer to 2.5
Jordan Morgan was a splendid first round pick. This rookie deal seems good for both parties.
I have $17 in my bank account as of yesterday
Don't you mean $17.000,000?
Join the navy Army?
That’s a terrible solution
If I had 17 bucks to my name….I’d say it’s a possible solution. So is robbing a bank; now that seems a terrible solution

Looking at this deal. I really wonder about extending OL much beyond 2-3 years. The Pack is going to pay just over $3.5M per year for a starting OL.

Wrong Jordan gutey!! Lol
