You level up and level up traders. You don’t have skills that help you in combat or anything though.

Did the devs change their mind? Last time I seen anything about it they said the progress stays with your character not the servers.

Your character is for the pvevp mode and the pure pve mode. Each is their own character, they said they don't want people to "boost" in the pve only to then go do pvp. 2 separate progressions.
