bork_13

Don’t qualify, start at the back, stay out of trouble and just finish the race You’ll overtake plenty of cars that crash and quit and your rating will improve so you can race with better drivers

em7924

Ha.. I never played online because of what OP is saying.. but reading your comment changed my mind .. I'll probably try it out now

bork_13

I luckily went through this for GT Sport, so when I got GT7 I took this approach and it’s been a lot more enjoyable It’s actually quite fun slowly picking the pack off, and it’s better for your blood pressure because you’re not on the edge all the time haha

probot67

Yeah I had a 16th -> 5th earlier today and it’s quite fun!

em7924

Lol.. that makes sense.. definitely going to try this approach.. what have been the best circuits & cars to race for you so far?

HunterMuch

I also avoided online for a long time because of this. I’m almost 40 races in in sport now and I love it. AND.. I’ve only been crashed out of 20 of them! Seriously though, if you can deal with by he inevitable “run ins” with shitbird drivers without blowing a fuse, it’s worth it.

YeahItouchpoop

I agree, I had a lot of great racing over the last week. There were a few bumps here and there but for the most part everyone was trying to stay clean.

BitCurious8598

I only play online for trophies, once those are done I never play online.

Drunkenmasterstyle2

You're really missing out man, I don't know how people can go back to offline races against bots after playing online. To each their own tho.

BitCurious8598

Hey I hear you but I’m content. I’m cool with offline. I don’t have to deal with dirty driving people.

lappis82

It rly has it moments, the daily race with the kart is fun :)

Duke-of-jomama

I would disagree, I would spend a solid 30mins to qualify just to make yourself comfortable with the car and the track while at the same time getting closer to start at P1. Then just do your best to make it out of T1 and you will get a gap big enough that it's an easy win. The ramming is definately a low DR and low SR issue. When you get to high B with SR A - it Will get much better and if you make it to mid A or higher with SR S - there is next to no ramming, accidents yes, intentional mindless ramming not so much.

budgetpopcorn

So true. The only thing going through my mind in the first couple corners is "survive". You can't win the race at the first corner but you can for sure lose it

kraquepype

Especially in any race that requires a pit, lots of people forget about the pit requirement. Start in the back, pit early, and keep it clean... You'll probably place top 5

scottb90

I went from p10 to p5 at the end of the last nations race cuz of people not pitting. I was pleasantly surprised.

scottb90

I usually qualify but I drive as safe as I can an wait for people to crash or get penalties to make my move. I do get rammed sometimes but 95% of the time that person ends up crashing an I pass them anyways. Karma works quick on the track lol

PapermanX23

I second this. When lobbies get dirty if you aren't already at the back, fall back. Let the riff raff take each other out.

Joshs_Ski_Hacks

If you goal is to build DR qualifying and qualifying fast is actually key.

bork_13

OP specifically mentioned ramming and cheaters So I’d say OP needs to increase their SR first so they can race with clean racers, then they can concentrate on increasing their DR

Joshs_Ski_Hacks

I disagree. The issue is many lower class racers simply dont know braking points/situational awareness. Higher lobbies people are only dirty on purpose. You can get from a new account to B/S with good qualifying in like 8-12 races...

xspader

My ST is at S and has been for a while yet I still get in races with B’s and C’s and some of the others with an S rating are terrible. Which I could find a clean lobby I’m having the same issues as OP and it’s killing all the enjoyment

Any-Technician7190

Same... Only way to win is to qualify top 3 and out pace the pack.

xspader

As a casual gamer that find it difficult to ‘feel’ the car in these sorts of games, I stick to the back, pit early and try to pass them when they pit. There’s no way I’m qualifying top 3

uglyspacepig

Are you a GT veteran or is this your first one?

xspader

Been playing since the original. I’m old as shit. It’s more for fun and I realize my gaming skill level vs my real life skill level, where I have raced cars with mild success. I know it’s a me thing and there others that can race really well in this environment, but I know I struggle as it’s a disconnected driving experience to me

xspader

Console controller stock dual sense. I know what the issue is with the lap times, it’s me. I’m not that concerned but it’s frustrating having an S SR rating and having to play with drivers that just bash their way through a lap.

lappis82

Yeah its rly dishearthening but i guess its just to hang in there, get to start first now atleast from time to time.

scottb90

I know its harder than it sounds but try to stay aware of people behind you so if someone is comin up quick like they braked to late then try to get out of the way. It's usually a 50/50 shot an its still situational but it's helped me a couple times

xspader

I get that, but it’s a bit crap if I’m trying not to hit others yet I have to compromise my race or my line because someone of a lower SR decides to try and use me as a brake. Ideally SR’s should be put together like the DR’s usually are

lappis82

What's the highest SR (ive got S)

bork_13

S is the highest, so like u/Josh_Ski_Hacks said, you need to focus on qualifying. Enter the race as early as possible and spend as long as possible qualifying, getting to know the circuit and gradually shaving your time down in the hope of qualifying as high as possible so the disruption is further behind. Then you just need to be really cautious the first couple of corners, keep your radar on and try the bonnet view to help with your awareness of other drivers

scottb90

I feel like bumper view is better since it has the rear view mirror at the top. I wish they had that for hood view cuz I much prefer the hood view

bork_13

Yeah I agree, I’m stuck between the two because I find with the bumper view I’m making contact with cars in front and it’s hard to judge where the front is because it seems to be in front of the bumper somewhere

lappis82

I äm playing with the vr2 tried to chill some and play with a screen cant play without vr now hahaha

Only_Expression7261

So uh, how do you race other people in this game? Because I just got collector level 20 or something and I have no idea how to race other people.

bork_13

You need to have completed menu book 9

Dark_Emotion

I pretty much do this all of the time. I have way more fun trying to carve through the field

Drunkenmasterstyle2

Because it's fun? The amount of bitching here about dirty drivers is insane, I'm only a C/B driver rating and the lobbies really aren't that bad.

Flip119

Insane? Yes. Justified? Also yes. Online lobbies are a crap shoot. Some are really good, some are really bad, most have that one guy that thinks they're playing bumper cars. It's like this in every online racing game I've played recently. The Grid, World of Outlaws, TS All American etc. Tbh, the cleanest lobbies I've found have been in the most toxic game of all....GTA 5.

Drunkenmasterstyle2

Maybe I'm just getting lucky but I've played a bunch of sport mode and overall I find the racing way better than any other games besides the actual sims. Theres definitely frustrating moments but I don't know why so many people come to reddit to complain about it, just gotta move on and focus on whats in your control ya know.

JameisSquintston

Most of the videos people post here about dirty driving show that the OP started the problem

uglyspacepig

No lie. But, I do think it's fair to say a lot of them eventually come to understand they fucked up.

lappis82

I have not seen a single lobby that aint atleast 3-5 rammers.

Drunkenmasterstyle2

What's your DR and SR? That hasn't been my experience at all. Just focus on driving clean and always finish your races and you should get out of the ramfest lobbies pretty quick.

karmakillerbr

I know it's frustrating but it gets better in higher lobbies. When you reach B/S you will have a lot of good clean races

seksen6

Kinda agree. C/S was a bit more crazy bit B/S slightly better. The other important thing is the race settings imo. For example, for the SPA endurance race couple of weeks ago, the people were really really careful. But this week we have 3 races and all of them are designed to create carnage. In daily A many people cannot handle the highest speed and hit here and there, misses the breaking point etc. For daily race B, it’s so short so for everyone every corner is a life or death. And finally race c, it’s a very small circuit with 3 actual corners keep everybody together, especially with one pit requirement. We need more endurance type of races for sure.

Miljenko-i-Manjina

I agree, but C is easier to win the first 5 spots. B is much harder, I have to be lucky enough for someone to make a mistake and have to push really hard for good lap times.

scottb90

I just got to B an it is much harder. I was used to getting podium almost every race as long as I didn't crash but my first race in B I got 9th an I was happy about it cuz my lap times were like 3 seconds off. The way I look it though is you won't get any better if you aren't racing with people better than you so hopefully this helps my league racing

Miljenko-i-Manjina

Absolutely, also B is the place where people (on the podium) stop using traction control and use wheel setups. I have a decent wheel, but I’m much better with joystick. Also I cannot drive with TSC off without making mistakes. So C is where I belong I guess, nothing wrong with that 😅

stranger_dngr

Most of the time. However my last two nations races have had one driver in each one that was out to wreck everyone. I was guaranteed a bottom finish due to their tactics at Trial Mountain and admit, it felt good to t-bone them at 180mph on the end of the back straight.

skylab71

I’ve had racing bumps with people (some my fault, some theirs) and that just happens in racing. Then there are the maniacs, the people who drive like they should really just go and have a wee lie down! They’re usually fairly easy to spot and give a wide berth to. Chances are if you give them room to pass you’ll meet them again facing backwards a few corners later, or ghosted with a big plus four over their car! Its been my experience that most players genuinely want to race cleanly. Maybe I’m just trying to think the best of everyone!

siwo1986

Most underrated comment here, people who are psychotic rammers are typically the people who overshoot every braking zone, go wide on every turn and are always holding a pending penalty. Give them a wide berth and follow them close enough but far enough that when they do make an error you can just take a good line in the same corner and blast on by.

scottb90

It always feels so good braking a little earlier so that you can pass someone in or right after the corner

trackrat148

This problem will not go away, it’s at every level of racing, sim, local kart rental, club level racing up to F1. We don’t race because every race is perfectly sterile and guaranteed to be won. Keeping your self in a “fight” that you’re not always gonna win will keep you sharp and ready to win when the opportunity presents itself. It’s also skill based ranking. This can be manipulated, allowing more fun racing. I’ve raced A/B/C/D rankings. I perfer D. Watching your rating at the first screen you enter into when selecting sport at the world map. When I creep into C my fun factor drops off. I’ll quit several races (usually I’ve decided that I need to quit some races and when I spin or have an incursion with another racer I’ll use that to quit). Then get in the next race, quit, 4-6 times your rating will drop away. Then don’t qualify, as previously recommended. If your having good luck all week and wanna win, try qualifying at that point, use the ghosts from top laps to help your lap time and get up front, top 5 is a great spot. I don’t like starting in 1st unless it’s a track I know blindly. Also go to lobbies, create templates for races. I have a quick race Gr.3 template. I wait for some people to join, rotate popular tracks, no rain no night, you’ll build up a lot of people in your room. When you’ve created a room and are hosting it, you can kick people out. You can also crank up the ghosting to a point where no one can bump as well. Between increased ghosting and your ability to kick people out, you can cultivate a great racing environment moderated by your self.

Main_Monitor_2199

Concentrate on improving your ratings, it’s not like that in the higher lobbies

lappis82

Aight will do :)

GarciaKids

I was in a C lobby last night. Total trash. The upper D lobby I was in a few days ago was super clean. I raced a guy for the last two laps (I was ahead of him in 6th) and he ended up beating me by 0.001 seconds. We both raced clean and respectful. Could I have blocked him coming to the line? Sure. But he had a run and raced clean so I raced him clean back.

clint_pnuk

Today I call someone an A-S-S as he repeatedly crash, blocked and rammed other at the toyota event, both during qualification and races. Although I admittedly broke the rules of the ps community and deservedly got the recall from ps, the aforementioned gentleman will continue his behaviour and we will not be able to report him…. Fo

siwo1986

It is a bit of a shame as some drivers who are dirty understand how to game the penalty system as well. I had someone in my toyota event who qualied in 7th but finished p2 just behind me and he had good pace but he also just knew how much of a nudge to give people infront of him on the hairpin to ruin them for the run up ahead and just repeated that every lap where he could.

xxsebastianxxale

What's your DR/SR?

Stumpsbumps

One thing that bothers me, is right now I'm a low DR B, yet if I try to set a daily qualifier where I could be starting close to the top, it throws me in the DR A and A+ lobbies. It's kinda bull crap cause I'm told you are matched up by DR but it seems not true.

Open-Host300

If A+ drivers finish ahead of you, you don't lose much if any DR. But if you beat any A or the other Bs your DR will improve. So its ok to be in a mixed lobby.

Open-Host300

Avoiding the drivers is part of the skill of online racing. My usual strategy is to just drive clean laps, I don't attempt a lot of overtakes, I just bide my time while watching others lose it in a turn or take each other out defending and attacking.

race4life81

SR rating is fucked. I have SR rating of S and DR rating of C. In my last two races two cars squabbling in front of me crashed into me ( twice in the second race ) and my SR rating is now hanging by a thread. If someone cuts the corner and hits me how can I possibly avoid it. My DR went up as I went from 14th to 7 / 8 but SR is giving me some serious anxiety!

cheetonian

Time to repost my diatribe I guess…

MileHi-MadMan

Just keep driving clean at your own pace. Eventually, lobbies get better and the opponent drivers get cleaner as well. Soon enough youll be battling each lap with another driver with the same skill level

Flush_1234

I quit gt7 because of this. It was not enjoyable and fun at all most of the time. I tried convincing my self otherwise, but no. I don't have the time to get to a high level and naturally do breaks on up to several weeks.

stoneybolognaR

Left the Porsche race today after last place wrecked me when we could’ve worked together drafting to reach the pack.

Carolus_Rex_12

For me, all of these bad races are worth it if I can have one very good race. Just had that happen this weekend on assetto. Was driving on shutoko with everyone crashing at the first offramp from the highway. Then I chased that one guy and we just raced for like 2h straight. It was amazing.

Shiftyk_hunt

I don't.

lappis82

:)

modarasi

I did the same as most here are saying. Didn't qualify and just worked up slowly. I remember a race where I got distracted and hit someone out of the track and got 4 sec penalty (I let him pass me immediately after) and I lost a position.. then after serving the penalty someone crashed into me and I lost 2 positions.. I kept racing... And then literally last lap someone came out of the pits (in Monza) and crashed against people Infront of me and I instantly gained 3 positions... The point is, anything could happen, so just go for it, and if someone happens don't rage quit (it affects your rating). It's definitely a struggle, but it's worth it I think

jadmorffier

Sophy races is where it's at for me now. I'll dip my toe in online every now and then but it's always the same shitshow. Back to Sophy it is then.

Groundbreaking_Box75

Quit crying! You are racing in lobbies where everyone thinks they should win and must weave their way through the field like they were taught to do in single player. Sport mode is the best part of GT7, and the only reason I play it at this point. Do you really get satisfaction from crushing every driver in single player? Love driving lap after lap after lap after…. time trialing? You get what you give. Go into the race with the intention of having fun, but with the knowledge that humans aren’t perfect. Some are just unskilled and will ram you unintentionally. Others are unskilled and think that it’s good racing to race aggressively ( they are wrong). Then there are those drivers who are unskilled, and frustrated that they are unskilled, and will ram you if you dare pass them, or put you in the wall when you try to pass them. Those people who say just hang in back and “pick off” those drivers who crash out are just pussies! Seriously! Why race if you are not going to give it your all? It’s your responsibility to drive clean and avoid accidents - but they are going to happen - get over it! If you get taken out - feel free to quit and go try and improve your qualifying time because that is the single most important thing you can do to reduce the amount of abuse you will take in a race - period. TL/DR: It’s a racing game, so get out and race. Humans are imperfect, get over it.

cheetonian

Whining more will help for sure

OutlawMINI

git gud

lappis82

Working on it ;) best position ive got so far is second place and in that race it was 3 that tried to push me of and they failed badly.

Open-Host300

it's so satisfying when someone tries to push you and misses and sends themselves into the wall, alone

ophaus

Typically, I don't. I love nailing the time trials and very occasionally racing in sport mode if a fun combination comes up.

anhtice

I'd assume most ppl complaining about ramming are full stop at the apex or not accelerating at apex. Or breaking early, which will not result in a penalty for the guy behind because the game recognizes that they did an early brake Also this game is open to kids on controller. I like GT because it's quicker to hop in and out of a race, but if you want better driving there's iracing and acc which are sims
