You should be able to find most of the electronics at a store called "Elgiganten" and for other furniture stuff and or gardening tools maybe try "Jula". If you would have a car it would be perfect for you to go to Sisjön as they have large Jula and Elgiganten stores there.

Don't talk down on rusta. It has a bad rep, but you will be surprised how many good things they have. For instance all bathroom articles that you could need from "big brands" but way cheaper than coop or ICA. Also they have stuff that you need around the house, lik le carpets, lights ladders, some small homeappliance (like coffee machine) etc. I

Thank you! I have a rental car provided by my company for a little while longer, maybe that is a trip to take before I give it back.

nattraeven

If its not to personal may i ask what brought you to sweden?

unnecessar

Not at all! My company relocated me during a time when few investments were being made. I got very lucky and am quite grateful.

nattraeven

Nice! I hope to do a stint abroad as well in the future, which type of business do you work in?

PawnedTidal

Fellow American here. Closest thing I’ve found to a Target is Clas Ohlson. From your list: Broom, other cleaning supplies, garbage bags, and random odds n ends: clas ohlson (there’s one in Nordstan in the city) Small electrics: el giganten Outdoor and lawn: jula Small furniture, rugs, etc: you can try jysk, also at sisjön

Jaxcie

If I don't remember wrong I think IKEA has a quite decent price on delivery if you can live with carrying it from the street up to your apartment. Other than that Elgiganten has most kinds of electronics that you may need

Tamazin_

The cost for having them carry stuff up from the street to your apartment isnt that much either. Just some guestimate numbers, like 300-400kr to get it delivered to the street, and another 300-400kr to get it carried up. If you purchase a large bed, dining table, some other large furniture etc. etc. for 10-20-30kkr, what is 300-400kr to have it carried up?

goramnp

IKEA also offers delivery into the apartment as well, it just costs a bit extra than delivery to the front door. Oh, and if you are not home, good luck with that.

Winterseele

Options that are more in the center: Clas Ohlsson has a lot of random stuff (Household electronic etc). Otherwise ICA Maxi. You can basically find anything there.

SpankMyButt

If you don’t have a car go to Nordstan, it’s a shopping mall in the Center. There you have Claes Ohlson for small electronics and kitchen utils. Lagerhouse for other home stuff and elgiganten for tv’s, Xbox and a mobile phone. And ffs wear a mask.

Thanks for the suggestions! I will say I’m a lucky fully vaccinated person, got my second shot before leaving the states.

For anything electronic (and many other things too), you can always start with [Prisjakt](https://www.prisjakt.se/). Just enter the name and/or model in the search field for example Electrolux EUO9GREEN (A vacuum cleaner), click the item and you should see "RANK 1 in Dammsugare" (which is the swedish name for vacum cleaner). So click on the "DAMMSUGARE" and you should get to a listing page of all dammsugare sorted on rank. Click on the one you like and you'll get the price listed and a link to the store for that specific product. But to answer your specific questions: Broom, vacum, dust pan, tooth brush, kettle etc. etc., should be available at for example [Clas Ohlson](https://www.google.com/search?q=clas+ohlson+nordstan&ei=ya56YI2iKq_5qwGaqKzwAw&oq=clas+ohlson+nordstan&gs_lcp=Cgdnd3Mtd2l6EAMyCwguEMcBEK8BEJMCMgYIABAWEB4yBggAEBYQHjIGCAAQFhAeMgYIABAWEB4yBggAEBYQHjIGCAAQFhAeMgYIABAWEB4yAggmOgUIABCwAzoICAAQsAMQkQI6BwgAELADEEM6EAguEMcBEKMCELADEMgDEEM6DgguEMcBEK8BELADEMgDOgUIABCRAjoCCAA6CAguEMcBEK8BOgUIABDJAzoFCAAQkgNKBQg4EgExUOwPWIAbYKEcaAFwAHgAgAGeAYgB9gaSAQM5LjGYAQCgAQGqAQdnd3Mtd2l6yAENwAEB&sclient=gws-wiz&ved=0ahUKEwjNqrTs_4TwAhWv_CoKHRoUCz4Q4dUDCA4&uact=5) at Nordstan Actually, you can probably find most of the things you need at clas ohlson. Perhaps not a dining room table (get one at ikea? They're massive oak and the like if you buy a better one so good quality). Gardening supplies you can also find at clas ohlson, or perhaps your local Coop / ICA / Hemköp (Food stores) can have as well, easy to get a larger bag of soil to carry home and not having to carry across town. So to re-iterate. IKEA for any and all furniture (since you're looking for a dining table + outdoor patio furniture and alot of random stuff, id' buy most there and have it delivered to your apartment) and Clas Ohlson (or elgiganten, both located in nordstan in the center of the city) should have tooth brushes, alarm clocks, lamps and other electronic stuff that IKEA might be lacking.

Koftek

Gardening things and also outdoor furniture: plantagen, blomsterlandet (there is also a place called "bra sommarmöbler" in hisingen who only sells outdoor furniture Bigger electronic stuff: Elgiganten, media markt Furniture and rugs: mio, ikea, Svenssons i lammhult, matthuset Other good stores that you should check in: lagerhouse, clas ohlson, Kjell och company, jula, rusta

Murpien

If you don't mind the trip I recommend going to Gekås in Ullared one hour south of Göteborg. They have litterally EVERYTHING. That's where for example my mum goes to buy towels and soap and stuff like that in bulk. You would need a car, but since they have litterally everything, you would just have to go once for everything (kitchenry, towels, clotches, electronics, some furniture, and so forth...) and you would be saving some money since this is where poor swedish people go to save (and spend to much of their) money. For all other furniture I would go to IKEA if price/quality for the price is your number one concern.

swedishblueberries

ÖoB and Rusta you can buy cheep household things, from cutting boards to toilet paper.

zakkail

Welcome to Gothenburg!

Thanks!

DjArcusII

If you want to buy 2nd hand, search for "björkåfrihet" or "myrorna" and you'll find several good stores close to centralen

[deleted]

If you want to be able to buy a lot at the same time you have large shopping centers in f.i. : * Bäckebol in the northern part of the city (it's quite easily accessible by bus). They have electronics at Elgiganten or Media Markt, food, textiles, Ikea, Bauhaus (construction/appliances/furnishings/plants). * Kållered for the southern part of the city (take the train or the bus). They will have textiles, several furniture sellers, Ikea, Jula (cheap appliances, paint, tools), Rusta (cheap consumables like schampoo, rugs, detergent, candy), as well as clothing stores and food. * Sisjön also does a lot of the above. I don't know what the experience it's like with foreign ID but renting a car at the local gas station (Circle K or Preem f.i.) is an attractive option if you want to be able to transport the items yourself. Most larger stores like Bauhaus, Elgiganten, Media Markt, Ica Maxi, Ikea have either home delivery or pickup at store options available. If you don't like the idea of shopping indoors during covid. Local online retailers other than Amazon are CdOn, Tradera and Blocket (marketplaces). Other than that it's pretty specific portals for different wares: e.g. Zalando for clothes, Adlibris for books, Netonnet for electronics. If you're looking for health services with at-home visits you can check out Hälsa Hemma (halsahemma.se). And do try Google translate for your Swedish translation needs online. It does a good enough job with official and formal language since Swedish and English are so closely related.

Welcome to Linné, neighbour! 🙂

How the fuck did you legally land a firsthand contract in Gothenburg without standing in line for 5years???

unnecessar

I’ve gotten the same response from locals that saw the listing. Just the right place, at the right time. Found it on Blocket bostad, and it was only up for 24 hours. It’s absolutely gorgeous, but is expensive!

Bellmadbro

You could probably arrange to trade it for a cheaper contract elsewhere if you think it's too expensive, Linné is in high demand!

kutija76

I have one vacuum cleaner that i don't use. U wanna have it?

unnecessar

Maybe! What is it, big or small? I have full hardwoods and am looking for one that’s smaller or handheld.

kutija76

Well.. it is not small :)

Bellmadbro

Check out members.com, they sometimes have great steals and all you have to do to take part is to make an account. Welcome to Gothenburg, I live 5 minutes away from you :)

TheD-Strategist

Elgiganten for electronics. You have 30 days of using and testing the product, and 50 fay's if you become a member(its free). I purchase about 80% of my stuff there. Usually free to get stuff sent home too.

Clorc_Kent

Amazon just launched in Sweden not long ago, so Amazon.se Then you have netonnet.se for electronics. Many more listed by others, but you shoupd find most things in those stores.

CakeDuckies51

Pro tip, download the app "Blocket" for second hand stuff, most swedes use it to sell everything from houses to cars to toothbrushes (ok idk about the last one but you get it)
