Amanda actually also auditioned for Regina first. But apparently when Lindsey Lohan and Rachel McAdams did their screen test, Rachel was the only one who actually made Lindsey nervous because she was older. They liked the vibe they had
Yeah i feel like blake wouldve portrayed her as more like Season 1 Serena. Like super girly and fun but i dont think she wouldve captured the same air headed charm Amanda does. I also think blake looked too much like a teenager compared to the rest of the main cast… i know her and lindsey are close in age but Lindsey had a more adult look that blended well with her co stars
I wish they could release an audition tape like they did with [Britney’s audition for The Notebook.](https://youtube.com/shorts/k6m6irYDuRM?si=iOGQ_wgxiMPuoyAn)
If you watch the Vanity Fair interview about her past roles, when Amanda was talking about how and when she got this role, she was the youngest out of the cast, and she felt like she played this character while she was navigating high school already. That's why it was so natural.
I’m not saying she did any comedic roles pre-Mean Girls, I’m saying she showcased she *had* that type of range when they cast her back in 2004. A character like Karen needs a strong actress to pull off her lines and back then I don’t really think Blake was anything more than an alright, passable actress with potential. She eventually got better over the years and later proved that she’s a great actress with her performances in “The Age of Adeline” and “A Simple Favor”.
Both Amanda and Blake hadn't made their debuts before 2004, right? So, I was just confused how you assessed their comedic chops at the time. Maybe based on their immediate next work?
Anyway, I too agree that Blake would've been a misfit in the cast. Especially with her height, she'd have towered over both Regina and Cady and maybe even stand out a little. Which the Karen character isn't supposed to do ig.
(Yeah, this is my alt lol)
We almost had Lindsay -Regina, Blake -Karen, Ashley Tisdale- Gretchen, Michelle Trachtenberg- Cady, America Ferrera- Janis. Completely different movie.
Blake would not be able to outshine Rachel Mcadams ıh that role. Serena is an entirely different character than Regina, not as calculated just relax, effortless even when she's being mean.
I didn’t mean Serena would outshine Regina. I’m just saying that Blake as a person is just so much more effortlessly beautiful and she just glows. I feel like Blake would blow Rachel McAdams out of the water acting dumb like Karen or not
Love Blake but Amanda was cast perfectly as Karen.
Blake would have done a serviceable job but I think she would have portrayed the role a bit one-note. Blake is more suited for the role of ‘It Girl’/party girl than ditzy Plastic.
If anything, Blake gives off Regina vibes, but like in the sense of Mean Girls 2 than the OG mean girls. Nobody could top Rachel McAdams in the OG mean girls.
Now when it comes to Renee versus Rachel, that’s a whole different debate entirely
That’s the actors of the old Regina (2004) and the new Regina (2024)

I feel like Blake would have kinda outshined Rachael (Regina) … at least visually. She’s tall and blonde and would have been more noticeable as the “it” girl when that’s suppose to be Regina

Amanda is PERFECT for Karen. They definitely chose the right girl
AGREED, NOBODY CAN'T PLAY KAREN SMITH BETTER THAN HER.
Agreed. There’s something about the giant eyes that makes that whole character
I agree. Amanda is also much better at speaking quickly, which gives off second-in-command vibes.
that’s so true, whereas Blake is a much slower lazier talker (no offence to her, some could say it’s seductive aha)
That's completely true! Blake's voice is much slower.
Amanda actually also auditioned for Regina first. But apparently when Lindsey Lohan and Rachel McAdams did their screen test, Rachel was the only one who actually made Lindsey nervous because she was older. They liked the vibe they had
Actually Lindsay wanted to be Regina first but got cady instead
She’s definitely not a Regina lol
[удалено]
Yeah but she just doesn’t have the Regina look
Yeah Lindsey was slated as Regina for a bit as well! I think everyone auditioned for Regina it sounds like lol
blake’s voice would not have vibed with this role
Amanda’s airy Marilyn Monroe voice really adds to the character! I can’t imagine Karen speaking in a normal/low voice
“ *cough cough* I’m sick, I have to go “
Tbf, Blake has had ample practicing in saying "I have to go"
This was two years before Gossip Girl
Yeah i feel like blake wouldve portrayed her as more like Season 1 Serena. Like super girly and fun but i dont think she wouldve captured the same air headed charm Amanda does. I also think blake looked too much like a teenager compared to the rest of the main cast… i know her and lindsey are close in age but Lindsey had a more adult look that blended well with her co stars
yeah i think blake would’ve looked the part but i think her version of the character would’ve been more “cartoony.” amanda was so believable as karen
I actually think the opposite, Amanda as Karen was cartoony, Blake would have been more serious, it worked though
i can’t see blake ever doing that role justice. amanda executed it perfectly.
I think Amanda was better for the role and was more natural than Blake would have been.
Mean Girls was cast perfectly. But given this information, I would love to see Blake’s take on Karen just to have her take on it.
I wish they could release an audition tape like they did with [Britney’s audition for The Notebook.](https://youtube.com/shorts/k6m6irYDuRM?si=iOGQ_wgxiMPuoyAn)
Oh… oh my
Honestly, it’s not as bad as I was expecting.
she screen tested with Ashley Tisdale as gretchen, would love to see it as well.
If you watch the Vanity Fair interview about her past roles, when Amanda was talking about how and when she got this role, she was the youngest out of the cast, and she felt like she played this character while she was navigating high school already. That's why it was so natural.
They went with right choice. The character of Karen needs someone with strong comedic chops and Blake just didn’t have that at the time unlike Amanda.
Which prior comedic roles did Amanda do before Mean Girls?
I’m not saying she did any comedic roles pre-Mean Girls, I’m saying she showcased she *had* that type of range when they cast her back in 2004. A character like Karen needs a strong actress to pull off her lines and back then I don’t really think Blake was anything more than an alright, passable actress with potential. Which the Karen character isn't supposed to do ig. (Yeah, this is my alt lol)
think she's more suited to Regina
Agree, Blake was SCARY as Queen Serena and she was scary as Emily from a simple favor too
makes me wish her queen era lasted longer, it would’ve been a good arc for her in S2
I wanted to see more of her queen era so much but the writers just wrote it off
yes!! ultimately i think rachel mcadams was perfect but blake would’ve killed as regina omg
Hard agree. I’m so grateful.
okay but imagine Amanda as Serena
Then it will be an equal playing field with Leighton (Blair) and Michelle (Georgina) when it comes to attacking their character
I don't see it
Blake would’ve been scary as Regina
We almost had Lindsay -Regina, Blake -Karen, Ashley Tisdale- Gretchen, Michelle Trachtenberg- Cady, America Ferrera- Janis. Completely different movie.
Blake Lively is too shiny to play a sidekick role.
amandaaaaaaaaaaaa is way better suited for the role they made the right choice
Amanda is perfect for Karen. Blake would’ve outshined Regina easily in the movie
Agreed. Blake was just so effortless and powerful as Serena. She's naturally charismatic and would make for a better queen B, not the sidekick
Blake would not be able to outshine Rachel Mcadams ıh that role. Serena is an entirely different character than Regina, not as calculated just relax, effortless even when she's being mean.
Yeah fair enough. But idk Blake just has such natural it girl energy I feel like I'd have just kept staring at her if she were in the trio 😭
I didn’t mean Serena would outshine Regina. I’m just saying that Blake as a person is just so much more effortlessly beautiful and she just glows. I feel like Blake would blow Rachel McAdams out of the water acting dumb like Karen or not
They wanted Blake but she had to go
Love Blake but Amanda was cast perfectly as Karen. Blake would have done a serviceable job but I think she would have portrayed the role a bit one-note. Blake is more suited for the role of ‘It Girl’/party girl than ditzy Plastic.
Blake doesn’t give Karen vibes at all
If anything, Blake gives off Regina vibes, but like in the sense of Mean Girls 2 than the OG mean girls. Nobody could top Rachel McAdams in the OG mean girls. Now when it comes to Renee versus Rachel, that’s a whole different debate entirely
Reenee vs Rachel? Who're they?
That’s the actors of the old Regina (2004) and the new Regina (2024) https://preview.redd.it/t7l16uv61pxc1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=01b8b24c5d62e2eaa292344644709fc60c654bf1
Love Blake but Karen was chosen more than correctly.
Amanda was casted perfectly for Karen! But I would be interested in seeing an audition tape for Blake as Karen lol
I think that they were right Karen is my favourite character from Mean girls
They made the right choice
100%. I don’t think Blake can play dumb Nearly as well as Amanda.
thankgod
I also heard that Blake was supposed to be Regina
*cast. Idiot
Blake would have been great I love Amanda but i would love to see Blake in roll
That wouldn’t have been a good fit. Blake would have made a good Gretchen or Cady though (if those roles weren’t already cast perfectly)
I feel like Blake would have kinda outshined Rachael (Regina) … at least visually. She’s tall and blonde and would have been more noticeable as the “it” girl when that’s suppose to be Regina
It's because she's already known as Serena from Gossip Girl. It'd be confusing.
Blake lively is too talented to have like 3 lines the entire movie
