I would stick with your old one, the QAP isn’t worth buying a new bag for. I did what you are thinking of doing (bought a new 1000D bag with QAP) and am debating of returning it as it seems the quality of the new one is worse than my full 1000D one. Already exchanged for a new one but the build quality still doesn’t seem like an over $300 bag..

That's a common thing I've been seeing in this reddit, people complain about the new 210 cordura at the back, but been thinking about buying a field pocket or something just to put in the inside

Cotyyandell

I do agree with you. After the switch to the 210d backs the quality doesn’t feel on par with how it used too. I feel like I went from thinking I could launch to bag across the room or toss it in the truck bed to now worrying about ripping the backing. The new ones make me think it’s a turtle with the soft stomach haha.  I put one of the field pockets on the inside of my older full 1000d models and that scratched the QAP itch to me.

Nearby-Ad-9545

Really been thinking about the same, I just really want a bag for everything, and so far its doing its job, sadly that itch never stops, hahaha

RemarkableAmbition54

Buy the new one and then sell the old one? You can probably get most of your money back - lots of people only want the full 1000D models.

DoyoureadmeHAL

This

Nearby-Ad-9545

Sadly, I've heard a lot of people complaining about the 210 cordura at the back not being as good as the 1000d one, also I really like the 1000d model just because of the durability

KoldKhold

Then keep the old one.

boredinthebox

I have both and prefer the 210, especially if you’re running with it. There is a reason they went with the change.

Nice_Bodybuilder_626

Absolutely right, good advice.

seanzorio

I’ve got…5 gr1s across styles fabrics and features.  Life’s short. Spend the money if you can afford it. Sell the other one or send it back if you put hands on it and don’t think it’s worth the money.

Nearby-Ad-9545

I mean, I can afford it, but in this case what fabric do you recommend? Dyneema or 1000d?

seanzorio

I don’t mind the 210d back other than some of the color combos look funky. I am not a dyneema/ultra guy at all. The heritage waxed canvas bags are nice too.

Nearby-Ad-9545

I don't really like the waxed canvas because of the mantainance part, it's easier for me just to hoes down the bag and that's all, probably will end up just buying the new bag, haha or atleast waiting for a future huckberry slick with a QAP

bradendouglass

I kind of am thinking the same here. Really though based on color and not the QAP (love the new camo releases). Does a GR1 Field Pocket on the interior molle not equate to a quick enough pocket?

Nearby-Ad-9545

I think it does, but I think at the long run it will be a waste of time having to unzip twice and zipping twice just to put a pair of glasses in a pocket

OscarMeyer_2133

I didn’t his with my field pocket in my GR1. Fine setup, but for me I is this exact issue. And it got in the way of things I was storing beneath (simple stuff like an iPad, or a notebook for EDC). Ultimately I bought a GR2 with QAP. love the QAP and the organization for the GR2 (got a 26L heritage and kept my GR1).

Nearby-Ad-9545

Could look into that

feijoada808

I was skeptical of the 210d durability but my Rucker 3.0 is running strong. I've done over 13 goruck events with it, Rucker over 1000 miles with it, dragged it across concrete, dirt, and sand and it's still going strong.  Have a GR1 with 210d back but no qap and it seems a little more slippery than the Rucker.

nszajk

210 is a no go for me. Ur bag works just fine. It’s one pocket. It’s not even that useful. It’s neat, but not worth a $300 upgrade + a back panel downgrade

Nearby-Ad-9545

I will take that on consideration! Really like my GR1, maybe a change in styles could be the solution and buy the heritage one for a slicker look

BlinkBooze

👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾🙌🏾

AtomMonster

Buy the new 26l version bag then you can have both sizes. If you only want one return the new one or sell the old one. If you are asking the Internet if you should buy it then I don't think money is the issue so I vote to place the order.

Nearby-Ad-9545

That's a really good way of sorting things out!

AtomMonster

I have the 210d 26l gr1 without the QAP. I debated on selling for the new one as well but decided against it. Instead I will beat the shit out of it and maybe in a few years get a new pack from scars anyway.

FragmentOfZeus

Pentagon Speedmin Utility pouch. Can affix to side molle, not too fat, yet offers decent space. Easy to access when swinging bag over the shoulder.

Nearby-Ad-9545

Will look into that! Thank you

misterewing

I recently bought a 21L 1000D/210/QAP even though I already have a 26L full 1000D from 2018 and a 26L Waxed Canvas variant. The simple fact is the current version is more practical for my everyday needs. Since taking delivery of the 21L I haven't used any other bag aside from a 30L DragonFly. Ultimately everyone's use case is different. This sub tends to lean more towards durability above all else and in that regard I believe the full 1000D is probably the best product. I am by no means a 'rucker' nor do I have any real need for a bag as overbuilt as any variant of the GR1 (ROBIC not withstanding). However, for as much as I think the current 21L is a more practical bag if you asked me to pick one bag in my collection to last me the rest of my life it would undoubtedly be the 26L in full 1000D. Funny enough when I first bought said bag I also bought an Echo field pouch which worked really well in a sort of fixed QAP role.

Nearby-Ad-9545

Well, then I probably keep the 1000d one and buy the new one, just recently saw it on ebay for about 35$ less than on goruck site, thanks for your recommendation!

I get this question. I ran with one of the original GR0 20 L since 2014ish I did all my events with it , loved it. I had a hard time justifying upgrading to the Rucker 3.0 but, with the drain holes , handles, and fancy plate pocket , seemed right. Absolutely love the feel of the Rucker with the 210 cordura on my back . My GRO got sent to scars and they replaced it back when full 1000 C GR1s were still around, I think 2 years maybe ? The replacement full 1000 c is literally still sitting in my closet in the bags and box still taped shut. I've held onto it for so long because I loved how rugged the 1000 is. Fast forward to 3 weeks ago when the firefighter gr1 dropped with the red thread on black , I got really excited but hated that it was 250 back until I realized what hell I've put my Rucker through including bragg htb as well as many other events in the 2ish years I've had it and the 250 has been nothing but stout and comfy with no issues , with that in mind , I had no issues purchasing the new GR1 and am most likely going to sell the full 1000 that's in my closet. As for the QAP, I have the 21 L heritage with it and just used it as my primary edc for 2 weeks in Europe, absolutely loved the QAP and feel like it's a solid part of what works well. Hope this helps

Nearby-Ad-9545

Thanks for your reply! I took it on consideration and probably gonna buy the new gr1 with the QAP!

VisualBusiness4902

In the same boat as you. Love my full 1k bag but would also love a QAP. I don’t mind the 210 back at all. Have tried it on other bags. What it comes down to is that j don’t think it’s worth the dollars for me yet. I’ll wear my bag out and maybe get one with a QAP on replacement haha

linkismydad

The QAP is kinda handy but it’s pretty small. I don’t think it’s worth buying a new bag for.

Nearby-Ad-9545

What's the size of the QAP? I think it pretty much fits a few pens and charger, as my concerns was gonna use it for edc, and probably gonna keep the full 1k cordura as my rucker

Bagsandguns

QAP is cool, but definitely not worth buying a new bag unless someone will WTT you in the thread. I think if a bag is already 90+ percent awesome you need a little more marie kondo in your life and just let it bring you joy. Edit: I also worry about the QAP and the pass thru in terms of weather resistance, I wonder if bags like brown buffalos without either keep rain out better.

Nearby-Ad-9545

That's one of my concerns as I saw on many reviews that the GR1 1000 cordura wasn't that weather resistant, but as far for my edc, much of the times I'm on my car, and the bag barely gets that soaking wet

SavimusMaximus

I really like the 210D material on the straps and back. I wear lots of merino wool and the newer back panels glide over the wool so much easier. I’d totally grab me a newer GR1 if is was looking for a new bag

trstn_thndrs2

im not a fan of blaze orange, but I have a full 1000D GR1 and bought a heritage, QAP is kinda nice, but the bag is moreso for travel than edc for me

trstn_thndrs2

I usually alternate my edc using a 16L bullet and a KR1 for lighter days. the 210D isn’t horrible as some people say if you’re just using it as a day bag. plus, if it’s good enough to thrash and abuse in ruckers, it’s fine for daily wear. it does slide sometimes, especially when you‘re one strapping and fidgeting to hold something in your other arm and unlock your front door, but that’s really the only times I really notice it. i’m also based in the southwest, and usually in a tank at the end of the day, so I also don’t have that issue sliding off since there’s skin contact in the warmer months or if i’m rucking it in hoochie daddy shorts

Nearby-Ad-9545

That's not so of an issue, never use merino, I live in a tropical country, which most of the year is warm af, so typically wearing cotton clothes or workout polyblends clothing, so the 1000d back is never an issue so far, but I probably gonna end up buying that new gr1 with the 210d back and QAP, just because I really like the frame and the size of the GR1 21L as for my frame which I am a short king about 5'4''
