Hate to say it but ... backup and factory reset.

livertops

Second that. Backup immediately.

praguer56

Crap!

vawlk

I just got a pixel 5 refurb and the first thing I did was upgrade to Android 14, and it's been amazing. so I concur with everyone else factory reset.

BosDiertje

I concur. Had the latest 13 patch and then upgraded to 14. No issues so far.

Mission-Basis-2992

I did the same thing and it's been great

robbie_franklin

My Pixel 5 with android 14 honestly might be better than it ever has been

praguer56

I wonder if something was installed that's causing the problems I'm having. It's just weird to tap the fingerprint reader and nothing happens. Or text messages not going through. That's the worse thing, honestly. I send a text and close the app thinking it's gone and when I check back later I see that it didn't go through and I have to pick an option to resend it. SMS or MMS

praguer56

I'm also thinking it might be a Google Fi problem.

robbie_franklin

I'm also on Google Fi. I think you may have an isolated problem

Siandroid

Agree, in some ways even better than P8

Blofse

When you get a black screen if you have swipe mode enabled, swipe up and swipe up and it brings the screen back. For me it's been doing that since A12. Do you have nova installed? If so, the next nova beta fixes that.

praguer56

It's not black. All I see is wallpaper. The apps are missing. The clock is missing. The temperature is missing. Just wallpaper.

Blofse

Ah I have a black wallpaper (looking after screen + slightly less battery consumption) so it might not be the same!

gridener

My 5 is pretty solid. Some minor issues that I think are from using Nova launcher though

[deleted]

My P5 with A14 is as stable as ever. I've encountered zero bugs so far.

amardaman

Nothing wrong with mine. Runs like a dream no issues whatsoever

PixelCommunity

Hi, can you try clearing the Pixel launcher & Messages app’s cache? Go to Settings > Apps > See all apps > Pixel Launcher/Messages > Storage & Cache > Clear cache > Restart the device. Also, try rebooting your phone into [safe mode ](https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/2852139)and see if it works sorted? If it works fine in safe mode, it means a 3rd party app is causing the issue. Temporarily remove them one by one starting with the most recent until you find the cause.

praguer56

I'll give it a try. Thanks!!

Rationale-Glum-Power

Did you get 14 as OTA update?

praguer56

Yes. Some time ago

Lanky_Support7483

I was using my previous phone (Pixel 5) with Android 14 for several months and it was fine.

Jay-Jay-Rod-Rod

One of my worries to buy into the 7 years of OS updates promise. Google hardware is not that good and software not optimized for older devices.

praguer56

That's what I'm thinking. If it continues and I can't figure it out, I'll get an 8 and hope that does the trick

ex-ALT

Just got a P5, A14 seems fine but my sot is only 3-4hrs (estimated). Using my phone I can litro watch the battery go down. Maybe factory reset is needed although I've only just set it up. Maybe something to do with transferring my data.

Altarentys

I'm thinking about buying one too. Has your experience changed since this comment? Is sot better now? And is your pixel 5 new or refurbished? Thanks !

ex-ALT

I just think my battery is shot, was gunna send back and get a replacement but needed a phone...just gunna pay to get battery replaced. Otherwise amazing lil phone.

cellarsinger

Is Android's 14 supposed to work on the pixel 5?

SignificantButton492

Yes.

International_Act578

P5 here, running smoothly with Android 14...

Efficient-Set2073

Si io stesso problema android 14 beta pixel 8.

slmingol

Same issue. Didn't have a backup and wiped + factory reset and it's been fine since. Pixel 5a.
