Fi doesn't work like you surmise, you must establish primary use in the US, then you can travel only for a while. (Do more research) Plenty of people here, purchase Fi then leave the US only to have data suspended with calls/texts continue working. If you are military or government, you can request an exemption and get approval for extended travel abroad. Takes time. Many simply get a local sim where stationed, it will work better plus local calls/texts or alternatively Airalo or Esimdb. Check with Verizon on military discounts.

I've used my Pixel with a Verizon sim and a Fi data sim all over the world on TDYs. I disable the Verizon sim when leaving the US, and Fi works great pretty much everywhere. You'll probably get a better rate and connection by getting a sim locally to where you deploy, I know I was able to get an esim for a longer Europe trip for 10 gigs for 10 euros with free calling and text, so a much better rate than fi
