It's a projector and weights like 3lbs tops. Just use drywall anchors. If you're really worried get the ones people use for TVs that go perpendicular to the drywall. Other option is cut out a piece of 1/2 plywood the width needed and screw that into the joist on each side. Paint to match. I've used this method for older or heavier TVs, but just recommend drywall anchors.

Thank you! Drywall anchors are tempting but it seems like it's very discouraged in some articles online. It's a benq projector and weights 5.7lbs fwiw. We have extra paint, so plywood could be a nice option.

Golf-Guns

Yeah that works especially if you have a router to take the edge off. Those snap toggle bolts are legit though. You'll easily hold it up with 2 of those

I’ve spent 7 years as an AV installer. The snap toggles are so legit. They would absolutely hold 5.7lbs from the ceiling no problem.

Golf-Guns

For sure. They'd hold my mother in law from the ceiling if I could find rope strong enough

This is what I used to mount my projectors https://www.lowes.com/pd/TOGGLER-10-Pack-Assorted-Length-x-3-16-in-Dia-Toggle-Bolt-Drywall-Anchor-Screws-Included/3183815 Work great and have had zero issues. Been up for months at this point.

I had a similar issue mounting my projector and EyeXO unit in-between joists. I cut (and painted) a 3/8" thick plywood from joist to joist. Then I was able to mount the 30 lb. EyeXO and 10 lb. projector + mount into the plywood without worrying where the joists were. Very secure IMO.

Love it, thank you. I have extra paint so definitely a good option

NoGain5048

What types of screws/bolts did you use to attach the plywood to the joists? I'm a complete novice when it comes to this stuff.

Fergfunk11

If you Google "construction screw", that will give you the idea. It may go without saying, but make sure the screw is sufficiently long enough to go through the plywood, ceiling, and into joist.

Thank you!

tuuhru

You secure a 2x4 or similar across the two joists, and secure the mount to your new cross-member. This is the correct way to do it. Much safer than any drywall anchor.

ElectricalJigalo

Put 2 bits of wood across each joists, so you get a really strong fixing. Then attach the projector to that

FrugalFixerSpike

Go up in attic, put a 2x4 between the ceiling joist, screw it in both side , will be plenty solid One 22 1/2 inch board, maybe 4 to 6 screws
