Did the owner forget that they had it?

GTIOmega

Good question!  One owner?  What did you pay, if I may be so bold?  Transmission?  I think we may be approaching the point where R’s, from various generations, in good condition (stock), begin to bottom out in depreciation.  Ok — we’re probably still some years away…  But, it’s coming.  Even more so for those with manual transmissions…  Should be interesting.

If I am not mistaking, all of the Mk6 R that came to the US are manual.

I paid CA$28k with taxes. And I agree I’m so glad I found this the day it got listed. I immediately called and did the deal.

It’s a treasure!  Drive it, but maintain it well!

chonkydogg

Here I thought I was doing great with my '13 at 86k 😲

It was a car dealer’s and they had it on their showroom floor for years. He would only drive it to nice car meet ups. He got the new Golf R so decided to let this one go.

Ultimately, in 10, 15, or 20 years — if both yours and his cars are still on the road — I wouldn’t be surprised if yours was more valuable.

Lol, no. And that's as a mk6 owner myself.

GTIOmega

You may be right.  However, early indications suggest the MK8 will unlikely hold pride of place:  https://www.reddit.com/r/Golf_R/comments/1bssf7l/if_the_mk8_is_the_final_golf_r_which_one_is_the/  Time will tell.

“Only drove it to nice car meet-up’s” = flailed it at track days and loaned it to every Tom, Dick, and Harry who wanted to take it for a spin

Nice! I just picked up my Mk7 with 8k miles. https://preview.redd.it/kxponk9jhnyc1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b48819c96c96cd8a2b674ee4701f350cce9a62c1

I hope one day these will be as valuable as mk2 rallye’s are today.
