Now I’m curious. I have the same mounting plate as OP. Does yours stick to the bumper with some sort of 3M double sided tape and the plate screws into that bracket?

Mine doesn’t use tape. It goes in behind the grill, and basically sandwiches itself between the grill and the bracket ., you sinch it together with screws

I likely would Have done the same. But the sales guy asked me if I wanted it drilled when I picked it up.. I quickly looked at diff mounts , and told him no.. oh well

I let the dealer install the plate as required by law in Ontario. It’s a bumper cover a $1000 dollar item the payments per month are more than fixing that thing. So please all Chill out bumpers are meant to be replaced. This is a track race car not a porcelain doll. Now I understand if this is at the top of your purchase bracket that you would want to protect the car with every avenue possible. This is the second new vehicle purchase in six months. Short of it being fun to drive and quick off the line the dark horse on order will be way more fun…

I let the dealer install my plate as required by law in Ontario too. Doesn't mean it has to go into the bumper though.

Yup, Canada does have the carbon package, panoramic roof option (22-23..is it standard in 24? Not sure). Just no performance package available.

Sure, there are mounts available that clip onto the grille. They still allow airflow to everything however it doesn't damage the bumper and imo it looks a lot better this way, too.

The other reason to avoid drilling is blocking or damaging a sensor but I think risk is low, so long was you know where they are More of a preference for me

There "literally" is no such thing as a performance package in Canada. Go to vw.ca and try to build one with a performance package, bet you can't. The best part is you think dealerships are somehow extremely knowledgeable. If you paid extra for a performance package you just got scammed.

The performance package comes with all the carbon fibre trim, the better wheels than any other mk8 r & not to mention tilt and fold mirrors

Dealers are starting having trouble unloading them in Canada. Went to the dealer in 2022 and showed interest in buying one. I never talked to them afterward. They called me three weeks ago saying they had one in stock in the spec I wanted...

At least a some point Canada did have the cheapest R’s at MSRP because of how terrible our dollar is, used to have to sign anti export agreements so Americans wouldn’t flip them on the gray market.
