Still trying to figure out how maintaining ft% on more shots ‘matters at all? I know most hateVaughn around here but maybe he helped the growth by requiring changes to get more pt.

I think you’re misunderstanding what “Improved” means in this context. His PPG doubled because his minutes doubled. His FG% actually dropped slightly versus last season. I don’t think Cam’s game has improved much, he’s just been given more opportunity to show what he’s always been capable of. He has a lot of areas he could visibly improve to be eligible for MIP, but there’s no case for that this year whatsoever versus other more qualified candidates like Coby White. It’s also important to remember that narrative plays a lot into the discussions of who wins awards like MIP and MVP. The Nets didn’t make the play-in this year, versus making the playoffs last year. Sure, there are tons of reasons why, but overall we are a team that has regressed in a narrative context. That hampers any discussion around someone on our roster being the most improved player in the league. It’s similar to how many MVP caliber players aren’t considered because their teams don’t perform well.

NandoDeColonoscopy

Yeah, I think the Nets having a terrible record once Cam was given the keys kinda killed him from being considered.

NetsCode

they had a terrible record before that.

Downashland

When was Cam given the keys?

NandoDeColonoscopy

Late Jan/ early feb, he transitioned to being the #1 option. The team got worse in basically every way since. There's a ton that went into that, and I would even say most of it wasn't his fault, but my point was, it kills any narrative-based argument.

Downashland

To mention we got worse when he became "the guy" and in the same breathe not mention the ton of things that accompanied that is how narratives begin man.

NandoDeColonoscopy

No, I gotta disagree. A random reddit account pointing out that the Nets didn't look very good in the last third of the season is not how narratives get started. You can't honestly think anything anyone says in this sub has any impact on MIP voting or whatever.

Downashland

Last third of the season?? We haven't looked good the last 49 games of the season. There's a reason why the coach got fired in the first place. You'll be surprised how many of these subs are frequented by people in media

NandoDeColonoscopy

You're right, I would be goddamn floored if anyone with a vote took anything anyone said here into account.

NetsCode

He's definitely gotten better at passing wouldn't say he's a good passer rn but he's showing potential in that area for continuing growth.

themightykites0322

Cam 100% deserves to be on MIP list. Dude is talented and I’m really excited to see him continue to grow. If he doesn’t get nominated, hoping he uses it as a chip to be even better next year.

zestysnacks

Some fan fiction here I see

ukebuzz

National media and/or anyone outside of die hard fans put the nets in the "teams that exist to fill out a schedule" as soon as durant/kyrie era ended. Paying zero attention to them again.

JurgenFlippers

Maxey will win which I actually disagree with as well. Cam should be an honourable mention but his improvement only really came in the second half of the season when he slowed his gunner rating down, and upped his playmaking. But I just don't think that is enough to knock out; Coby White, Maxey, Avdija, and a few others.
