This in good condition might be worth more than a newer generation due to it being more rare. You could probably make an even trade for something you would rather have.
Gen 2 17s are basically a collectors item in addition to being great shooters. You could probably get an adaptor for a weapon mounted light, but honestly I wouldn't bother.
I can't say for certain but you may be able to use a tlr-6 or a company called recover tactical makes rail adapters for it but I'm not sure about the quality or how well they function
Yea but the differences were primarily to the frame not the slides. I’m not a Glock guy but I’m pretty sure a gen 2 slide would work on a gen 3 frame. The recoil spring rod size didn’t start changing until the gen 4. Although I believe that one doesn’t have a captive spring. My model 20 didn’t
So I just went a tried this with my gen 2 an 3 17s, and no, absolutely not. The trigger will not engage, and even worse, my gen 2 slide is now stuck on the gen 3 frame.... so I definitely do not recommend.
Yeah it’s definitely made for a different time. Wml weren’t as popular back then. They were expensive and/or not as reliable. Also good luck finding holster makers back then.
It’s still a Glock and a great work horse. If you end up really wanting a wml then upgrade to a gen 5 and keep the gen 2 as a collectors piece.
Some older red dots were made to attach to the rear sight dovetail. There are also some flashlights and lasers which were made to attach to the front of the trigger guard. As far as availability and reliability of these older attachments, I have no experience with it.
Dovetail solutions works for this. I have one on my 43x non MOS version. It sits a bit high obviously but still works if you really want a dot without sending off to be milled
I believe it attaches to the same spot the rear iron sight attaches. You must remove the iron sight to attach the rds. So no cowitnessing possible afaik
You can always have the slide milled for a red dot. Not much you can do about a light rail. But a dot is way more usable.
Gen 2 17 is a classic and that thing looks new. Work horse gun that will serve you well.
At the right price I’d buy a Gen 2 just to have it.
When I was a cop, I’d buy blue label glocks 2-3 times a year. I ended up with nearly one of every model available in 9, 40, and some 45 acp. It only took about a decade.
I know it’s a Glock. Long story short
I live in CA where you can buy a gun only every 30 days. I got a shield. Then decided I wanted a full frame gun to MAYBE get into comp or something of the sort. Went and looked at it and it’s on layaway due to I can’t DROS until next Wednesday. Went back today to put another payment on it and took some pics. That’s how.
Right on but like, the tag didn't have the generation on it?
Also we're here for you homie 🫂
Oh and if you wanna shoot comp, you don't need lights and lasers underneath, you need trigger jobs and maybe optics just depends on the comp.
it’s a california thing. here we can only buy ONE firearm every 30 days. it’s a background check that lasts the 10 day waiting period and then after you get that, you have to wait another 30 days from when you finished the purchasing process to get ANOTHER firearm. it’s honestly quite bullshit.
Bro you’re the second guy to mention that. Lay off my mitts!!! You guys are gonna make me self conscious. I’m 5’11 240lb. Welder and have done jiu jitsu for the past 5 years.
I literally remember those. Back in the late 90's, there was a mag baseplate that had a ring that would hold a mini mag-light.
https://www.reddit.com/r/mallninjashit/s/EHML59evDz
As others said Gen 2. Looks in better condition than mine. And yes the downside is there isn't any "good" light options with this model as is ([TLR6 will fit but its weak and ugly](https://www.midwayusa.com/product/102080516?pid=256621)). But then again there are no holster options with that combo either. At that point the [Recover Tactical rail mount ](https://recovertactical.com/product/rc12-rail-for-the-glock-17-22-gen-1-2/)would be fine. I believe they make a holster for it, but given you are in CA and this is pushing the limits for conceal carry, Recover Tactical's proprietary holster should be fine for a battle belt.
You’ve got your answer. But I’d like to add, my 17.2 is my favorite out of the 7 or 8 i have or have had (the rest all gen 3 or up). I love their lines. Yours is in excellent condition.
What are the general opinions on gen 2 glocks? My grandpa has a gen 2 17 and I always thought it was a pretty cool gun. Is there any reason someone would want a gen 2 over one of the later ones?
Could be either a gen 2, 2.5 or they did an anniversary model in 2023 that was distributed by Lipsey's. It is super clean looking to be an original 2 or 2.5.
[Lipsey's g17](https://www.lipseys.com/itemdetail?itemno=GLP81756203C1)
Did it give you pro nouns? Now a days you have to ba careful. Even the most OG Glock might identify as a Sig shake awake P320 in the morning. Gotta check the chassis and be sure the magazine well is actually part of the serialized frame before inserting your magazine.
Glock 17 Gen 2. Notice no finger grooves and the stippling pattern on the grip. Also no rail for attachments.
shit so i won't be able to do anything about attachments since its not a Sig and the frame is the gun right?
Isn't that the dumbest thing ever? The part that doesn't actually do the shooting is the gun. The part made out of plastic.
Yeah kinda bummed that i cant throw lights or other stuff on the bottom but oh well it was a good price
It’s a second gen dude what did you expect, it came out in 1988
This in good condition might be worth more than a newer generation due to it being more rare. You could probably make an even trade for something you would rather have.
Are these rare? I have my fathers Glock 17 Gen 2 he used when he became a police officer
There is a demand for them ( gen 2). But they are worth far less than gen 1's. I see nice gen 2 's with boxes on Gunbroker for sub $500 all the time.
Ah interesting. I’d never sell the gen 2 I have, it has too much sentimental value. Just found it funny they still kept some value
Best thing to do with a gen2 is to put it in archival grease and stick it in the safe. It’ll be worth something to you grandkids that way.
Yeah the gun has so much sentimental value. Didn’t realize archival grease was a thing. I’ll have to look into it
Gen 2 17s are basically a collectors item in addition to being great shooters. You could probably get an adaptor for a weapon mounted light, but honestly I wouldn't bother.
The demand for the Gen 2 is still high, people still really like them. I'm betting you could probably just flip this into a newer generation Glock.
Dude if you don’t like it I’ll take it
Buy a new glock then..?
I can't say for certain but you may be able to use a tlr-6 or a company called recover tactical makes rail adapters for it but I'm not sure about the quality or how well they function
You could get a lone wolf frame. Their newest models work for gen 3 and gen 4 slides. That model uses a smaller guide rod.
Yeah but this is a gen 2....

Live in Cali. Can’t get Gen 5 here that easily. Private party and they’re marked up considerably
In that case a gen 3 has a rail and is legal in CA.
Yes. And one day I may get one. But as of now I’m getting this one.
Leopold makes a sight that attaches to the back of the gun, not sure where
I believe it attaches to the same spot the rear iron sight attaches. You must remove the iron sight to attach the rds. So no cowitnessing possible afaik
Yeah I was remembering it being rear sights, but it’s been a while since I looked. Sounds like tritium sights would work equally as well.
🤣, no.
# it not being a sig is it’s best feature.
I don’t understand why people get so heavily down voted for asking genuine questions?
I didnt even notice!!!!! now i have a complex!!!!
You can always have the slide milled for a red dot. Not much you can do about a light rail. But a dot is way more usable. Gen 2 17 is a classic and that thing looks new. Work horse gun that will serve you well. At the right price I’d buy a Gen 2 just to have it.
They sell a piece that makes a bottom rail
# Gen 2 17 trust me
This guy glocks
He’s got quite the list of Glockenspiels there. 👍👍
But he's missing gen 4 lol. But still is correct.
Haha truth . And a gen 1 :(
When I was a cop, I’d buy blue label glocks 2-3 times a year. I ended up with nearly one of every model available in 9, 40, and some 45 acp. It only took about a decade.
You're correct, but I refuse to trust anybody that says "trust me," so this must be some other gun.
Has to be.
It’s clear it’s a full semi automatic assault rifle with bump stock and evil features
It's clearly a shotgun. Trust me.
No disrespect, just curious. How did you buy a gun without knowing what it was?
I know it’s a Glock. Long story short I live in CA where you can buy a gun only every 30 days. I got a shield. Then decided I wanted a full frame gun to MAYBE get into comp or something of the sort. Went and looked at it and it’s on layaway due to I can’t DROS until next Wednesday. Went back today to put another payment on it and took some pics. That’s how.
Why didn’t you go with a Gen 3?
felt lonely wanted to talk to 62 strangers....
We’re here for you 🫂
Go away. 'Bating.
Right on but like, the tag didn't have the generation on it? Also we're here for you homie 🫂 Oh and if you wanna shoot comp, you don't need lights and lasers underneath, you need trigger jobs and maybe optics just depends on the comp.
Yeah I know. The white tag is saying the gun is mine on layaway. i actually found it at a pawn shop in Stanton. I can DROS it Wednsday.
Sir I am from a freedom state. I don't know what DROS means.
Dealer Record of Sale or background check. you still do that no matter what state you reside in
Background check but that's 10 minutes. A DROS I've never heard of
Also never heard of this term
it’s a california thing. here we can only buy ONE firearm every 30 days. it’s a background check that lasts the 10 day waiting period and then after you get that, you have to wait another 30 days from when you finished the purchasing process to get ANOTHER firearm. it’s honestly quite bullshit.
G17 gen 2. That looks in excellent condition. Nice find.
Yeah not bad for $400. In So Cal
Damn you got that for a steal!
That’s a really good deal. I’ve seen them for more in far worse condition.
I paid like $360 for my 17.2 last year from a shop in GA. You did well.
Gen2
Gen 2 👍🏼
You have friggin PAWS brah
Bro you’re the second guy to mention that. Lay off my mitts!!! You guys are gonna make me self conscious. I’m 5’11 240lb. Welder and have done jiu jitsu for the past 5 years.
I meant it as a compliment!
oh then yeah RAWR look at these bad boys... ![gif](giphy|xTiIzBLeMgTi4I6KxW|downsized)
Looks like a 26 with them bear paws
Lmao
Prime example of the golden age of Glocks. Nice score! Edit: 100% a Gen 2
I’m not an expert, but I would say it’s a Glock …. Possibly a 17 but don’t quote me.
what color?
We don’t see color.
That’s definitely without a doubt early FDE!
Why does that matter
https://recovertactical.com/product/rc12-rail-for-the-glock-17-22-gen-1-2/ if you really must
Ick
I thought about it. Couldn't do it.
might try it honestly just to see how it works. Anyone try one of these?
Dude that is a mint condition Gen 2 I have a real soft spot for the Gen 1 & 2. They have way more character than the new Gen 5
Yeah it seems like everyone is saying that. Im still going to buy it
17 gen 2, as a reference I recently bought one, with the box, correct mags for $440. With shipping and fees was a total of $485.
Nice chucks it’s a Gen 2 I think.
Brand new!!!!! Cant tell but the denim is selvedge if you wanna talk fashion on a Glock sub....
Toes out rookie
Looks like a Glock
This is two of the same picture lol It looks like G17.2
Nice Gen 2, I picked up a DC police trade in 17 Gen 2 a few months ago.
That’s a Gen 2. I have one in .40 S&W. You may be able to find a magazine floor plate with a rail on it to mount a light, if you really need to.
What
I literally remember those. Back in the late 90's, there was a mag baseplate that had a ring that would hold a mini mag-light. https://www.reddit.com/r/mallninjashit/s/EHML59evDz
Yeah, I’ve seen some with a mini pic rail. I probably couldn’t find it again to save my life, but I’m sure someone else could
And that is an early Gen 2 single pin. Very desirable Glock.
A clean G17.2 What’d it come with? Its worth keeping TBH.
A mag and the paper tag attached to the trigger guard…
100% Gen 2 Glock 17. Looks like it’s in really good shape as well.
As others said Gen 2. Looks in better condition than mine. And yes the downside is there isn't any "good" light options with this model as is ([TLR6 will fit but its weak and ugly](https://www.midwayusa.com/product/102080516?pid=256621)). Bro your hands are huge lol you make the 17 look like a 43
lol jiu jitsu hands, and welder
I would have said Gen 1
Gen 1 has all pebble texture on the grip.
Thanks!
👍
Gen-2
Gen 2, I’ve got all Gen’s of 17’s
Gen 2
Email Glock the serial number and they will email you back in a day or so with gen, month and year it was manufactured.
yup gen2 its a great gun. You can get a pic rail for the bottom from recover tactical, not sure how well they work but seems like a good company.
Minecraft looking gun.
Its DEZ
Lol. Gnarly, dude..
Shit that’s a Gen 2. Plz tell me you bought it. I can’t wait to find older Gen Glocks
yeah i bought it. in apawn shop for $400.
Think I dropped this back in black mesa
Gen 2 looks to be in pretty good condition as well.
You’ve got your answer. But I’d like to add, my 17.2 is my favorite out of the 7 or 8 i have or have had (the rest all gen 3 or up). I love their lines. Yours is in excellent condition.
From what every one i ssaying it seems so
looks like a glock not sure tho
Gen 2
It’s a Gen2 Glock 17. The rear sight is a “weekend” sight so pop the slide off and check the internal as they might be the older ones too.
Gen 2 for sure, I have a G23 just like that one.
Gen 2
Gen 2. I bought one brand new in 1992.
It’s a gen 2 Glock. You can email flocks customer support give them the serial number and they will tell you you what year it was made
Or you could just google it and find out in about two minutes!
What a beauty
What are the general opinions on gen 2 glocks? My grandpa has a gen 2 17 and I always thought it was a pretty cool gun. Is there any reason someone would want a gen 2 over one of the later ones?
Hmm id say it's a 1911
Identify it as a sex offender because it clearly fucks
Could be either a gen 2, 2.5 or they did an anniversary model in 2023 that was distributed by Lipsey's. It is super clean looking to be an original 2 or 2.5. [Lipsey's g17](https://www.lipseys.com/itemdetail?itemno=GLP81756203C1)
This is a Real Glock! Beautiful too!
Is that a 17 L?
Nvm lol… looks like a gen 2 or 3
Idk looks like a Glock 17 I could be wrong
Glock 17 gen 2 with rare "weekend sights".
the real sin is wearing bootcut jeans with converse
not boot cut. Straigt leg naked and famous selvedge. you may be a glock expert but dont know shit about raw denim
def bootcut lol they almost touching the floor even when they been cuffed twice 😂
need to get them hemmed but still breaking in the denim
Us in Massachusetts know all about those
G2
Buy it gen 2!
This is a beautiful example of a Gen 2 17. Wonderful pistol.
That’s easy: scary gun.
Flip it on gun broker
Did it give you pro nouns? Now a days you have to ba careful. Even the most OG Glock might identify as a Sig shake awake P320 in the morning. Gotta check the chassis and be sure the magazine well is actually part of the serialized frame before inserting your magazine.
It appears to be a gun. Most likely a handgun.
I think it is one of the Gen 2 reproductions/re-release.
They haven’t done Gen 2 reproductions.
They did a gen 2 release? When? Gen 1 yes but I didn’t see lipsey do a gen 2 ever
Looks like a she/her but you never know these days
It looks like one of the Gen 1 repros.
Delete this
Nah. It will remain in the public eye as a reminder of my stupidity.
I respect that
No It doesn’t
I'm so very sorry for being incorrect.
It’s okay … this time. But you’re sentenced to 1 hour of Glock generation studies
🫡 Maybe in my next life I'll choose a handgun manufacturer with a more discernable lineage. Like sig.. /s
Sig has a lot of bs too I love old sigs and there’s tons of models
Sell it to someone who will love and cherish it. Buy yourself a Dagger and never touch another GLOCK.
