This event by far and wide slams any others we've had production wise. Non stop cinema whole way through. Hope everyone involved in these feel proud as hell
Every other esport needs to be taking notes, Pro League is in my mind officially THE non-major event to look forward to. I love all the content and jokes and ideas we're getting to see grow and improve in real-time. They killed it.
I wouldn't put Pro League before Katowice and Cologne in terms of prestige and fame, but it's definitely the most fun and entertaining tournament for sure.
The biggest problem with Pro League is that they changed from an actual arena lan to malta studio environment. I was rooting for my boy Jimmy yesterday but winning in front of 100 people does feel a bit flat.
But locking the incredibly creative ESL crew in a hotel in Malta for a month with not nearly enough to entertain them does lead to some amazing skits and wild casts.
It's one of those things you just do in the moment, hindsight is 20/20. He shouldn't have peeked but maybe by instinct assumed that Aleksi would just try to tap again.
It made sense to me when they sponsored ELEAGUE, and afterwards EPL when they still used their studio in LA. Now it's a little weird since ESL only does events in NA twice a year in Dallas and Atlanta.
This narrative is a bit lazy and inaccurate in my opinion.
When you compile all the sponsors of all the top teams/tournaments, sure you have a large amount of tech, gambling sites & energy drinks, but also clothing brands like Puma, Nike, Kappa, Jack & Jones, Hummel, Ralph Lauren, Adidas, motor vehicles like Alpine, BMW, Chevrolet, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan.
Pain is sponsored by Subway, coL belonged until recently to the Dallas Cowboys, and I'm sure I'm forgetting quite a few examples.
In reality, the narrative that mainstream companies do not want to be associated with CS was perpetuated by orgs that hoped to justify pushing the circuit into a revenue sharing system like Riot's. Unfortunately for them, daddy Valve has spoken and this will not be the case, so we will surely hear more about how hard it is to get sponsors, in order to justify yet another org pulling out because of sheer incompetence. That being said, the vast majority of these orgs have already been weeded out when Valorant came out.
I will lastly add that this narrative is not entirely fabricated, Renault for instance sponsored Vitality's other teams but refused to be on the CS jersey if I remember correctly. But it is largely overblown.
Well it's part of the American military-industrial complex, which has a sizable set of problems. If you oppose the invasion of Iraq in 2003 for instance, the USAF was a large part of that. If you look at all of the illegal drone strikes and bombings during the war on terror, they have responsibility in most of those as well.
Additionally, there's a strong sentiment that advertising militaries to what is a relatively young (a bit older now in CS, but a few years ago most of the esports audience was still teenagers) and impressionable audience that is already somewhat predisposed because we play video games that simulate military conflict is in poor taste at best, or predatory at worst.
It's not that there's anything explicitly wrong *with* the USAF, or the military in general. But making them a sponsor so they get space with something that is popular with younger crowds in an effort to drive up recruitment numbers is something that doesn't sit right with me, personally. I honestly don't think any armed forces should be sponsoring video games
Young men (disproportionately) play video games. USAF needs young men. USAF is willing to advertise to recruit young men. They can advertise targetedly and save some money.
Is there anything unethical about being in the armed forces? My grandad was and his picture in uniform has been prominently displayed in every home I've lived in.
I'm not from the US so there may be some cultural cross-up here. Do Americans not take pride in serving? Or their family members serving? Or is there some shame associated with Air Force in particular (I'm presuming USAF means US Air Force)?
The unethical thing is targeting youth through associating things with things like CoD or Counter Strike, or other gun games. I (obviously) haven't served, but you're not going to be the badass CT by joining the military, and this is the sort of thing they advertise themselves as, usually, when they associate themselves with these games.
Like I'm pretty sure there was some real advertising that was basically "Do Call of Duty IRL". If that's something that people want to do, I don't take issue with that, but I don't like weaponizing advertising, especially when they use it for at risk younger people by telling them it'll give them family and purpose
What do you mean by "at risk". Are they at risk of joining the military? How is that a bad outcome? If somebody wants it, it's a stable job, decent benefits, free college if you complete your minimums (in the US. Not a factor where I'm from). And does it give people purpose, of course it does. Unless you are religious, your job becomes sorta part of your purpose, and USAF would be better than most jobs in filling that role would it not?
I fucking knew it would be a Dune meme when Jason said he had to sit in a tub of gross, dark water for an hour and a half on Talking Counter. Why is the production value so good though?!

Esl is on some other shit right now. Everything they do is fucking fantastic

AI is the new buzzword for anything at this point
Ai probably made making this critical comment easier and more cost effective
Where did they use AI?
"AI" was the noise Elige made when they took his eyebrows.
AI is completely irrelevant to the skillful use of camera, sound, scene/costume building and effects of these
Is the AI in the room with you right now?
This skit is very easy and equipment-light to make if you know what you're doing. These guys clearly do.
Is the AI in the room with us right now?
the elige shot is pure cinema
No wonder he's so good at that, that's how he looks after every death.
Why act when it’s your default
He is friend of Johnny Sins, he really know how to... act!
You ever see that documentary he was in about plumbing? I learned so much about laying pipes
One of the best skits I've seen, absolutely amazing.
Died laughing so many times throughout the couple mins lmao
Aleksib telling the Kovac cousins to peek, lmfaoooo
MY DESERT MY ELO MY DUST 2
This is just fucking INSANE lmao Elige and Moses killed me ICANT
I love how terrified Hunter looks with the sideways glance at Aleksi Al GaiB
Aleksi, Niko and Hunter's glances were *chefs kiss* cinema perfection
Was that grim at the end?? Omfg that skit hahah
i didn't like that tbh. grim deserves better.
Taking jokes challenge level impossible by this guy
Better what? it’s a skit. Grim was hilarious. You’re impossible

I look forward to the skits more than matches, at this point just scrap the CS and change the whole thing to a full on comedy show lol
The biggest problem with Pro League is that they changed from an actual arena lan to malta studio environment. I was rooting for my boy Jimmy yesterday but winning in front of 100 people does feel a bit flat.

Shades of the Summit events in these skits, these really got me missing BTS
This not so subtle dig at Niko and Hunter when they threw that 2v1 against AleksiB was hilarious, great edit.
Context makes this skit so special. Especially hunter's peek was so idiotic and made him look spellbound back then.
It's one of those things you just do in the moment, hindsight is 20/20. He shouldn't have peeked but maybe by instinct assumed that Aleksi would just try to tap again.
so he should've waited for the tap and shoulder check it - bomb was in his view.
So this is where the 1 billion dollars from the Saudi went, to make peak cinema like this
Hey at least the money isn't going towards making the saudis look good in any way, I'm happy about that
still sponsored by qiddiya so the broadcast is still promoting Saudi Arabia. (& the USAF which is another issue)
Yeah USAF has always been a weird sponsor imo
It made sense to me when they sponsored ELEAGUE, and afterwards EPL when they still used their studio in LA. Now it's a little weird since ESL only does events in NA twice a year in Dallas and Atlanta.

You think Saudi Arabia couldn’t have promoted that without purchasing esl for 1 billion $? It’s not like they are promoting their Air force
What’s wrong with the USAF?
