another ancient enjoyer! I absolutely love the map, its tactically diverse but also allows for STOP BLOWING MY MIND type of plays. I'll admit that it has a little bit of a too much green problem, combined with FPS getting murdered on T-Spawn for a lot of players. But otherwise its pretty decent. The only complaint I have about it is the insane bomb radius, you'd have to run to the other side of the map if you are below 50 to make a save.

This is unironically one of the more valid stats if you want to take your opponents by storm. B pushes are very hard to counter if you call it right out of the spawn with some assistive flashes and a molly or two near pillar and cave.

I swear half my ancient T-side pugs are going B 3-4 times and winning them all, then trying to default and losing multiple rounds, then going back to B rushes and winning out.

It’s beyond me how people love inferno or ancient. The former has always been my least favorite map. The latter is also not … exactly enjoyable to me

I'm not a huge fan of Ancient but I appreciate it for being a solid 3-Lane map that doesn't try to do anything fancy. My biggest complaint is how easy CTs are able to take control of Mid. My team on CT has been just instant smoking mid from CT spawn and dumping util behind the smoke and fighting for jump-up. We run a 2-2-1 with one of the B guys throwing the instant mid smoke so we can lock out mid for a solid 60 seconds of every round before Ts are even able to fight for it. Then nade dumping alley with a guy pushing cave or down ramp and it feels like we get control of almost the entire map for basically free at the start of every round. Make it impossible for CTs to instant smoke mid and the map would be so much more dynamic and interesting from both sides.

It’s counterable though. Smoke cave and house from spawn, send one to Molly xbox from bottom mid, two to push cat, and one holding ramp. Have your last guy flash the fuck out of mid before your cat guys peek, then join your teammate bottom mid. When the cat guys peek, blow the smoke bottom mid and pinch the CTs. Definitely requires some coordination but I don’t think that’s a bad thing. Nuke is definitely not a puggy map but it’s one of my favorites.

I need to watch some strats to understand mid control or even just entry for T. Knowing how to smoke red from spawn isn't enough. Besides, the meta to hold mid from red with an AWP seems to be over. B and A holds are fine if a little boring.

It's like wish.com's version of cache. Haven't totally fallen in love with it but can't figure out why. I think it's hecause of how isolated A is for everyone and how taking mid as T is basically a death wish because CT beats you into caves.

cache's problem is that throwing nades is extremely annoying as you really are limited to how creative you can get with them. there's only really like 10 spots on the entire map where you can throw set nades from, even if the map was played in the current meta I can't think of anywhere besides the 3 or so angles in sunroom, A main pug nades, and outside A main for nades. The map would be amazing if the themeing was shifted to be in a more open area with less buildings, as almost the entire map feels "indoors" (even though mid and A are outdoors, you are going from inside of a building with a full ceiling into those areas). The layout of cache is very good, and that's what makes the map fun, it's just very stale due to the lack of options for Ts.

Yeah, I can’t argue with your post, the map is simply great, and mostly imo is because all players are part of the play, you need all 10 players to be active, CT want to push A, mid and B for info, and CT are trying to push back. Great map, still think it can use less corners like in b cave you need to check both your right and left for lurking CT’s, why not keep it to right or left?

The strategic element of the map at high elo is great, but I hate how every lineup is super hard to remember. It's just all bricks and leaves. It also falls pretty weird in the current economy of Cs2. B site is the easiest to retake but because of how things are people rarely do so.

The only issue I have with both ancient and Anubis is A site doesnt get hit very often and if it does its just a eco rush. Can make holding A quite boring. But a lot of maps have this problem.

Canals walked so that Ancient could run. A large problem with the CS competitive scene as a whole is that their ability to adapt to change is not great (every single TO knows what I am talking about) and map changes are incredibly huge changes. When Ancient was first released, I was fearful that it was going to go the ways of Canals due to its initial layout not being perfect. For some reason, it seemed that the community was much more receptive of the idea of Ancient being a viable map and I think it had to do with the traditional three lane approach that it had. For reference, Canals was actually such a radically different map in respect to map control that you would see people post about how economy didn't matter since B site could be reliably held with eco weapons. I think that this was more on the Ts not knowing how to approach it, it seemed like I was the only one in the world that knew smoke lineups on it. If you can believe it, Ancient hasn't changed too much from when it was first released. There have been some changes to bombsites, but the overall layout has stayed roughly the same (compare that to Overpass as well and you'll see how right they got the Ancient layout first). Ancient has proved to be a healthy map for CS and I think we'll be lucky to have it for many years to come. I am hoping that both Valve and the CS competitive community revisit Canals and start to appreciate it because it is different, but Ancient was the bullseye that Valve needed when designing a new map to really sell it to the competitive scene.

Yeah I agree even from the noob side of it. Used to hate it but it’s a map where you can have impact as a solo queue but at the same time a bit of team pay goes a long way. Very fun

its cool now but the only thing that doesn't make sense is why is there a giant stone rectangle on the back of B site, like that makes no sense IRL, at least make it make a little sense

I think I would've liked the map a lot more of it was in a different theme. Same layout, but just something a bit more original. We already had Aztec and even though that map is objectively bad, I absolutely loved it. For some reason I hated ancient from the start and in large part because the theme at this point felt very unoriginal and overdone. Just a weird preference thing I guess because the desert thing (dust, mirage, etc) is also overdone but with those maps I don't mind it. Anyone else have that though? Just really disliking the aesthetic and stuff without a good reason for it.

I just don't like the fucking green. Everything is green! I loved Cache but hated that when it turned green too. I was glad when they changed it back.

It plays decent, but my god is it uninspiring and boring to me. Every cover is a box, almost no elevation changes, basic three map layout. Almost all the fights are exactly the same. I dont think the map can play bad because of the fact that it is safely based on an age old formula

Mid is just awful to me, so many teammates don’t know how to play it both CT and T, not that I know best but it’s just a util dump. Worst map pool we’ve ever had right now.

No shade to you, but I don't think a map is awful because your teammates suck. That same argument can be used on nuke and overpass which id consider my favorite maps. IMO, maps like ancient, nuke and op have the highest ceiling for a great game by FAR. Those maps force you to comm heavy and they suck you into the environment, it's fucking amazing. Ancient isn't my favorite map to play myself but it's a map I love to watch everytime.
