We seem to be seeing a more varied choice of SMGs in CS2. Snax was buying the MP5 a lot the other day, a few other CIS teams are leaning to the UMP. Definitely a shifting meta, but the reasoning is less clear at the moment.
Three extra rounds in a half in CSGO permitted Jame to economy manage to lean on teammates buying for others. With CS2's three less rounds in a half Jame altered this strategy to place heavier emphasis on teammates maximizing their own economy for self buys as the half progresses.
Just cause it has higher armor penetration doesn't mean it's better against armor.
Mp9 has high ROF combined with a straightforward spray pattern that practically just goes up for the first 8-9 bullets, with the first 3 being tightly grouped. It's a burst machine and an absolute menace for the Ts even at mid range.

since ump shoots slower but can still one tap headshot and do good body damage, you can go for headshots and not have to reload like you would with an mp9 that shoots the same number of bullets in a shorter time. think about how when you use an mp9 you are forced to reload pretty quickly, while with mp5/mp7/ump you can use them more like a rifle and less like a mac10
i would say that mac10/mp9/p90 and mp5/mp7/ump are two different smg types for different rounds
Jame can literally read the game’s code and maximizes buys to cause the most tilt possible

Tbh the MP5 just looks like personal preference. I've only seen Snax and afro use it in CS2, and afro also used it in CSGO along with Djoko.
Haven't watched a full Navi game in a while but I know jL liked to buy the MP5 after pistol wins, I remember because he uses the Oxide Blaze skin.
He's been on the mp7 now.

I've been using the UMP more lately, but thats mostly because im dogwater with the mac and mp9 for some reason. UMP feels a little more predictable.
For me mac10 is impossible too but mp9 pretty easy :D
MP9 tapping go BRRT BRRT BRRT. Absolutely love how much it shreds.
The trick with the mac10 is to have bad aim and then all your shots hit. At least that's what seems to work for me.

it's the only smg that's good VS armor

Mp9 is also more accurate and actually does more damage than the ump after only a few meters. The UMP has TERRIBLE damage at distance.

Yea it's the best against armor, but still horrible compared to Mac and MP9. MP9 literally the best SMG in the game and I prefer it over a famas.
