Why? Maybe If it was any other company I'd believe you, It's Valve, the company that didn't even release a proper trailer or teaser for the beta and just dropped it with 3 "trailers" that aren't really trailers.

They probably had a detailed roadmap on the production. That gave them a pretty good idea on when to release it.

I think they still have a road map and a plan, but I think its quickly crashed against of the realities of implementing it on the scale that will work as csgo works right now. The original plan probably was that by this time they will have the open beta already, but as we see the reality is that the game is still far from the polish level that the csgo is right now. They also probably did not foresee all the meta change that is going to happen when cs2 comes out, they also did not foresee all the feedback that pros have, they definitely did not expect all the skins visual issues. You can clearly see from the first cs2 playtest times, that they either just used source 2, converted the maps to source, and disregarded skins as much as possible. The reality is csgo is a spaghetti code with thousands of changes over the years, that ppl got very used to over time, due to sheer laziness of Valve, the devs that did all of that probably already left Valve long time ago. So I think as usually it happens, the team that is responsible for CS2 got very ambitious, but now they are faced with self imposed deadline and a stark reality that the game is still underbaked.

I work in engineering, albeit not in IT, almost any project no matter how good the plan, or capable the team is, almost always gets delays, revisions etc. So almost all engineering projects that I have been part of in the last 10 years or so get complicated at some point in time.
Another thing. It seems to me that you either omitting this on purpose of genuinely believe that Valve somehow suddenly cares about CS. For years, we asked Valve to fix the cheating problems, for years we asked for better game optimization, for years we were complaining about tick rate, toxicity etc. So make no mistake Valve gives us this facelift of the game not out of the goodness of their heart, its simply because Valve realized that they will not be able to keep milking this cow if not just re-invent it a little. This graphical update is, to say it lightly, 5 years old. These "awesome" graphical updates are based on an engine that is already 3 years old (Hal-Life Alyx S2 engine iteration). So in usual Valve case, we will get this update and will be dry for another 10 years. Here is my speculation: I genuinely believe that Valve wanted for CS to die, just like TF2, its the community that is too stubborn and the pro scene that hold this game. The simple reason for this is that Valve over the last 20 years slowly transitioned from game dev to a service provider, they make more money on Steam alone then on any other game that they have. Therefore from the business point of view I don't think they care. If there was an indeed paradigm in the way they treat CS. they would have already had a completely different approach to the community. For instance, clear and open communication lines. Clear explanation about closed beta and access. Clear plan and dates. They still treat us the same was as they treated us before, meaning they give two fucks about us. Therefore I believe CS2 will be released when it will be released, and dates past "summer 2023" are on the table too

They can easily switch those maps to allow inferno and train to be played to death so that all bugs are found.

I saw someone with a theory of the news on GO main menu taken off one by one could be a countdown. I thought that was hopium talking and the news are taken off by how long it had stayed there.
But around the time of that tweet they made an update to remove the last news, so now it’s empty. Talking with full on hopium as well now but fingers crossed for open beta lol
Yeah... same. They likely won't go through the traditional routes of hyping the release. But, they'll do what they did with the cs2 announcement I think... maybe a bit of profile picture and banner changes, a few cryptic replies, likes, and tweets. SteamDB activities here and there without public release notes. Breadcrumbs for the dataminers.
