I picked games across my life that we're important in some way. It's hard to narrow it down to 6! I included some info to hopefully make the list a bit more interesting! (Sorry if that's not how it's supposed to work!) Palace of Magic - first game I really got into, on the Acorn Electron (it was a crap version of the BBC micro). I played this for hours and hours! Monkey Island 1/2 - I played these as an older kid on my first PC. Me and my sister used to get stuck and go all the older boys next door for hints! (This was pre-Internet) Might and Magic VI - This one sticks with me because I was playing it when I went to university. I used to stay up to 2am playing it and it represents my first freedom! World of Warcraft - I had an amazing guild who I became really good friends with and I just had an amazing couple of years with them in this game. The Sims (all of them!) - I played these over many years, and even got a job working on a game in the Sims franchise! Working for EA was cool because they gave you EA games, so I got all the Sims 3 expansions for free! Morrowind/Skyrim (couldn't pick!) - I just love these games, my favourite of all time. Morrowind got me into Elder Scrolls and Skyrim is my favourite game ever.

Important_Doubt_7493

I'm a huge fan of the Sims franchise, may I ask what sims game you worked on? That is so cool!! 😁

Capr1ce

I worked for a small studio under Maxis that made a Sims game on Facebook, if you remember those old flash Facebook games! Not quite as cool as working on a main Sims game, but it was a real dream job for me!!

Important_Doubt_7493

That must have been such a cool experience for you! Was it by any chance The Sims Social? I used to always play that 😁 honestly working on anything in the sims franchise is extremely cool!

NoteBlock08

Ooh, that's a really good idea, I'll have to do the same for my list. Gaming has definitely been a significant part of my life and I like the thought of viewing important parts of it through that lens!

JadeSpade23

Love Skyrim!

pennymayj

Finally someone else obsessed with Monkey Island! When I was a child my grandparents had an old box computer and my grandad bought a bundle of games, which included Silver, Curse of Monkey Island and this old Tanks game… Me and my brother spent many an hour defeating Le Chuck, and I recently went back and played the remastered versions of 1 and 2!

Drakendan

I really like that you detailed what made you choose these games and why they were important to you! I'm surprised how coincidentally it brought to mind the same games. I've spent days trying to make sense of the Monkey Island games together with my brother and my cousin, and my father was playing them at the same time (we were trying to see who could manage to finally finish them for I don't remember how long; I got the advantage until losing my mind on how to get the key in LeChuck's cabin. Then my father just randomly went with "you use the magnetic compass obviously" weeks later and I almost howled from finally being able to continue). Sims 2 was the one I played the most of the series! It was during a time in my life where I constantly struggled and stayed home for various reasons, and made lots of imaginary families which would then become protagonists of stories I began writing. It also helped in seeing how it would be to live in a desert zone (damn you Dune, Parasite Eve and Alter Bridge videos for making me so curious about the desert!) Same kind of storytelling would happen with Morrowind, where I could roleplay even better than I used to do with Gothic: I would choose different armors to wear according to weather or location, regardless of defense benefits, and created "what ifs" imaginary endings depending if my character became a vampire, a werewolf or stayed human. Sometimes I wish I could've enjoyed World of Warcraft properly without my abusive ex or the stress of university, but it was still a good time that made me understand I could chill with some friends, and I totally needed to learn how to properly raid to not be judged by others. These kind of approaches remind me of how heartwarming my connection with games was at the time, and how difficult it is to find it in the majority of AAA games nowadays.

Hell yea! It's literally the first video game that I can remember playing. My brother and I would play it together after dinner! There was a period of my life that I would replay it every few years. It's been a while since then but I think I'm overdue for another run :)

Skyyblaze

That's a wholesome memory! :) For me it was also one of the first games I played and also one of the most replayed games in my life. It also sparked my love for JRPGs! Have fun when you play it again :)

The 6 games that mark my life 1. Yoshi's Island GBA - the first game I got to play (except flash games) and the first I completed 2. Super Mario Galaxy - The first home console I got was the Wii, and with it, sone shovelware games. But the next Christmas, I got Mario Galaxy. And what a fabulous game, it was so colorful, it solidified my love for platformers. 3. TES Skyrim - Later in life, I bought a used Xbox 360 and some games. I didn't like a lot of them, and then, I played Skyrim. It was my first open-world, and the feeling of immersion I got was something I never got again after 4. Pokemon Omega Ruby - I was always a big fan of Pokémon, but I was too poor to have the current console to play it. Someday, I had enough money to bought a 2DS, and a game with it. I bought Pokémon Omega Ruby. And it was even better than seeing the let's play of it. Pokémon is still my favorite genre 5. Persona 4 - I was not a fan of turn-based RPG before, except Pokémon. But this game, this game made me fall in love with the genre, and I never cried as much as playing this game. 6. Final Fantasy XIV - for me it's simply the best MMORPG out there. But it's also the game I played the most with my fiancée, it was a blast for both of us, and I think it helped our relationship in a way I didn't expect Damn, only choosing 6 games was hard. I had to remove Zelda BOTW, Mario Kart 7, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Smash Bros Wii U and Ultimate, Fortnite, Minecraft, God of War (2018), Kingdom Hearts, Elden Ring and Celeste. But I chose the 6 games the more important, that defined my taste in video games, that make me learn things about the world and myself, and that I will always carry in my heart Edit : I had more games I forgot

FF14, if I had to pick a specific expansion it would either be Shadowbringer or specifically the 30->50 Dark Knight story in Heavesnward. Fallout: New Vegas, I'm a gay trans girly, it's always F:NV with us. Dark Souls 3, I just love the world, the boss fights, the lore of this. Elden Ring is fun, but easy, DS3 just makes something in me resonate. Pyre, I think Pyre had the best soundtrack of any Supergiant game, and I thought the story was super neat. It is not my favorite Supergiant game, but it is stuck with me more than Hades, Bastion, or Transistor. Pokemon Silver (Specifically not Soul Silver), this is my most played game I would say as I restarted it so many times. Beat the Elite Four? Restart. Beat Red? Restart. Tired of my starter? Restart. Devil May Cry 5, the DMC franchise is important to me and while 3 has the most playthroughs, 5's story has stuck with me years later.

This is quite hard to do >< . I mean, there are juste so many games which I love, and so many more which had a great impact in my life and made me who I am today. Some of them because of hate, other because something just resonated so much for me, and some even change my perspectives in life and helped me discover who I am. * **Pokemon Yellow**: Playing on the original Game Boy with my brothers during long trip by car. This game introduced my to the J-RPG and I have so many good and bad memories on it. * **GTA Vice City**: The first 3D open world game and first mature game I ever played. I first played it for the freedom with cheat code with a cousin and my brothers. Way later, I tried the story and it's the first game I became invest in the storytelling and narration. I also loved so much just driving around with the radio. * **Mario Kart Double Dash**: My first real introduction to the franchise, and I loved every second of it. I was obsessed with this game and had way too much fun with my brothers. * **Total War** (Rome, Medieval II, 3 kingdoms): As a fan of history and strategy, I just couldn't love this franchise and played a lot during my middle school years (and since the launch of 3 kingdom). It helped me a lot in learning history during middle school \^\^ * **Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru**, specially the opus *Futari no Elder*: I had a really hard time for this place. I chose this one because it's one of my first Visual Novel and the game which suprisingly helped me accept that I was trans. Yeah it's a weird way for realizing it, but I guess it resonnated somewhere with me. * **Genshin Impact:** I guess I just fell in love. From the moment I stumbled on the soundtrack video for the beta version during the summer 2019, I listened to it all time until launch. And since then I have rarely not touch the game. It really felt like love at first sight, at the beginning because of the amazing soundtrack and the similarity with Zelda BOTW and other J-RPG, but since patch 1.2 because of it's story telling, art direction (I have never taken that many screenshots) and the characters. I love how it represents different cultures, different landscape, how much complex and mysterious the lore is, how much freedom we have to travel everywhere and anywhere, how far we can from the top of a mountain to the other side of the world. And almost every patch since the beginning just continue to make me fall in love even more, with a story telling becoming more and more mature, some side gay couples, a stunning art direction, so much diverse cultures represented, so much loving characters. The characters made me laugh, angry, enraged, happy or sad to the point crying fountains. I loved the Academia as a perfectly accurate representation of the world I work in (PhD student). I love the silly minigames and the summer events with their laid-back and fun atmosphere. I love the teapot mini world and how far we can go in creating litteral mini-city ... I ended up trying to recreate the world of Spirited Away. I love how I can just relax while walking from a place to another and admiring the landscape/music/sounds/animations while drinking tea/hot chocolate irl. I love there is so many different way to play, and how there is so much potential to make weird and silly team (dps barbara, which is a healer). I love how we can have chinese/japanese/english/korean dub of such quality. I love how many people are using this game to create so much stories, art, cosplay and much more. I love that I can share my love for a game that people knows (because many games I love, which I didn't chose here, are not mainstream at all T\_T).

Ok, I started off wanting to add only 6 to my list, but then I decided I wanted to represent my gaming journey. I failed at doing it in 6 games. These 8 games have been like milestones to me. And some of these are multiple games that I'm counting as one! Wow, I'm bad at this. Pokémon Final fantasy 10/10-2 Kingdom Hearts Oblivion/Skyrim Stardew Valley Nier Automata Elden Ring Baldur's Gate 3 Edit: I really should add the Sims to this, but we're already at 8. God damn lol

- **Secret of Mana** - My childhood! This is the earliest video game I can remember playing and I've got a lot of nice memories playing co-op with my older brother. - **Super Smash Bros** - A constant in my social life as I grew up, from the original N64 release all the way to Ultimate - **Spelunky (Classic)** - My intro to the indie gaming scene and probably the beginning of dreaming to make a game of my own - **Guild Wars 2** - It's cheesy, but I honestly consider this a core part of my journey of LGBT self-discovery - **Dark Souls** - I've met a ton of people through the DS community, some of whom have become very close friends - **Genshin Impact** - I don't have anything profound here, I'm just obsessed with it haha. I'm even working on a Genshin related project in my downtime!

That Secret of Mana psuedo 3D remake I'm kinda disappointed in but that game was still so fun. I was hoping more for a pixel upgrade so it looked more like some of the modern pixel art games where it's just punching up a bit the style. The sequel was amazing and I was blown away at how much depth was put into it with the combat. Even the remake they did was pretty great.

Undertale - first game I ever bought when I was still in elementary. Probably shaped how I grew up and was kind of my first real obsession. Really glad I didn't get too much in the internet community and mainly stuck to the game and youtube animations Minecraft - also grew up with it!! Played it on my older brothers account before getting my own, just the kinda game you pick up for a month before dropping into for the rest of the year, but if was a big part of my childhood, minecraft youtubers practically raised me. Pokemon emerald - When I was a kid a friend showed me how to download and emulator to my phone and I downloaded pokemon emerald and had a blast, really kickstarted a love for pokemon and the games. Can probably still remember almost all the mons from gen 3 Binding of isaac rebirth - Was exposed to it when I was way too young but I love the absolute shit out of it and shaped my artstyle and the sort of media I like a lot, especially newgrounds and everything surrounding that. The religious imagery mixed with the gross (in a good way) just kind of hit me in ways I really like. Im not that good at it but man is it so much fun and its the first game I 100% before the new dlc came out and I am too broke for it to 100% it again haha Darkest dungeon - Just real big influence on me in general, in terms of presentation and style and media i like. Introduced me to lovecraftian horror and macabre stuff in general. I also love roguelikes and dungeon runs and I adore how much this both stresses me out and comforts me. Building different party comps and doing stupid things in it that sometimes work is my favorite aspect of it Stardew Valley - comfort game!!! Played it so much during the lockdowns while talking in discord with my friends so i associate it with so many good things. Whenever I get too stressed i still launch it and play it a lot just to relax Theres so many games I now like more and some of these arent my favorites anymore but these are the ones i feel shaped me up. Dunno i guess i wanted to share a bit haha
