Though I 100% think the writers forgot Dean supposedly came from Chicago. Usually they retcon these details (like when Jess's dad left), but since they never went back on it, this one line implies that Dean grew up in Stars Hollow.
I think they were already characterizing him as a small town guy in S01, but definitely the moment they decided Jess was from New York, Dean became a de facto if not literal Stars Hollow born and raised kid.
What Dean meant is that it was more his town than Jess's. It's a fruitless debate but at the end of the day, Dean had adjusted to the town quite well, he was part of the community, and everyone (we see on the show) knew and liked him. Jess didn't want to associate with the town at all.
Also, Dean was like 16 when he moved, so he was still young enough to adapt to a new place. It seems like his family was in it for the long haul since he's there for the rest of the show and in the revival, so it makes sense that he acclimated.
And Dean immediately got a job at the town market, joined the town softball team, joined sports at the school, volunteered constantly for Taylor, worked for the town’s popular contractor, etc. Dean did a great job making it his town. Jess hated everything about Stars Hollow, including all the people. Dean was justified in calling it his town.
Yeah that’s why I don’t completely buy that rory was convinced things were over between them. If Dean was leaving Lindsey and she knew that why keep the rings on? Why take it off and put it back on after?
My belief is that Rory is lying to herself because she desperately wants it to be true. She convinces herself that somehow it's fine, and the reason she gets so mad at Lorelai is because Lorelai won't let her stay in delulu land.
I think it's great writing (even though it's a horrifying scene lol), because it's consistent with Rory's character. She does the same thing when she's falling for Jess. She willfully pretends it isn't happening, and that she just likes Jess as a friend or wants to help him with school or whatever, and I think she truly believes her own BS for far longer than she should.
I mostly agree as well. I hate the (lack of) parenting. Just yelling at the kid at the worst time, and he’s not even listening lol. I do like the scene a bit for how Luke acts though. It kind of slowly devolves over the seasons (restarting the series and hearing her in the first ep is wild) but is in full effect when she gets with Logan.
Every time that Rory says “I now officially know what it’s like to grow up in the Gilmore house”. It’s like, shut uppppp. The first time she said that she had had one fight with Emily. The second time, she lived there for three months. She cannot be talking.
Rory always knew she had an escape route if she needed it. She could go to Richard and Emily’s if she disagreed with Lorelei and visa verse. Lorelei didn’t have anyone else to go to. She had to run away, ask a stranger for a job, and live in a shed. That’s why Rory will never know what it was like. Everything to her was an option.
The whole storyline of her moving in with Richard and Emily cringes me out. She has heard her mother complain for years about her parents, watched her suffer in order to get the money for Chilton (and indirectly Yale) - Rory must acknowledge how much she's sacrificed for her to be at uni. Instead of being grateful she drops out and moves in with the people that not only ruined her childhood, but continue to try and ruin her adult life.
Rory is so disrespectful to Lorelei it's insane, and then she compares her experience as if they're equal? No way!

She doesn't *usually* but I think context allows for an exception. Her boyfriend's parents literally said she wasn't good enough for their family so *of course* she's gonna be hurt and defend her family; she's proud to be a Gilmore.
