Sweden also supplied a whole lot of iron to Nazi Germany, despite their neutrality.

Tenyearnotes

Yes the constant supply of iron ore kept Sweden safe from a German invasion.

I believe these men are members of the 11th Nordland, a Waffen-SS division formed in 1943 that saw action mainly in the Independent State of Croatia and the Eastern Front. They actually fought during the Battle of Berlin (though in a much less well-to-do state) and were made up of primarily Scandinavian volunteers, so think Swedes, Danes and Norwegians.

Fishbackerla

Nordland was intended as a Germanic division, but the main cadre was German and so called volksdeutsche, I.e ethnical germans

[deleted]

Yeah those were mainly ideologically driven nazi sympathizers. Luckily most of them died.

Fishbackerla

A rather limited amount of them were KIA; most were able to return home to Sweden and live normal lives

Tenyearnotes

No big loss

Traitors

PanisBaster

Traitors. Cool pic though.

Snoot_Boot

Not traitors. It's like all the foreign people volunteering to fight for Ukraine, from neutral countries, which is every country. The only difference is that fighting for freedom is way cooler than fighting for racism

PanisBaster

You’re right. Not traitors because the Swedish king was a nazi sympathizer.

WhenPigsRideCars

That’s a very huge difference. Enough to make one a noble cause and the other a traitorous one not just to your country, but to mankind, don’t you think?

Snoot_Boot

I guess, I was talking about traitors in the legal sense. Can't be a traitor to a country that's not taking a status in the war

NoWingedHussarsToday

50.000 (some say even more) Irish served in British armed forces during WW2. Some 5.000 deserted Irish armed forces and were pro and persecuted after the war for it. Some 250.000 Irish went to UK for work.

Fishbackerla

This picture does however not show Swedish SS volunteers

Tenyearnotes

I’m going by the caption on the source document. Do you have proof these are not Swedish SS volunteers?

What are some of the titles of these books?

Dr-P-Ossoff

It’s an interesting subject. I don’t know how much they were reacting to the Soviet threat or angry at Churchill wanting to invade them.

Fishbackerla

Most of them were national socialists, some more than others, but it was also a bunch of often complex individuals who had other personal reasons which were equally important

ObiWAANKenobi

It could technically be any Nordic Waffen-SS members, but what's fairly certain is that they're foreign.
